Typical rust through of engine cradle sub frame (k frame) of a pacifica suv almost causing the engine to drop through to the ground. discovered the rust through, and subsequent engine shift, in mid october 2015 @ approximately 144,000 miles, while car was up on a lift. car was no longer drivable due to this condition. had a local chrysler dealership's repair shop to replace the cradle frame and motor mounts shortly thereafter. they disavowed any help or their involvement in getting chrysler to cover the repair of a known defect. called chrysler's customer service and was told my pacifica was not part of the extended warranty issued for a small number of and short production run of pacificas. am attempting to again contact chrysler customer service via letter and ask for help with the cost of repairs. also trying to join the class action group that is suing chrysler over this issue. law firm in columbus, oh is lead counsel on the case. i love this car for all its attributes and that is was developed, built and sold while mercedes benz owned chrysler, giving it a much higher quality in my opinion. present day fiat chrysler doesn't seem to want to help out on this issue.
On the highway there were these vibrations in the pacific so my husband and i took the car to the mechanic which recommended new suspension so we got those. the problem wasn't fixed my husband took it to another mechanic for new tires, suspension and alignment to be told that our only means of transportation was not fit to drive because the subframe completely has rotted out. thank god he did that, i'm horrified my child was in it all this time. my husband and i called the number 1 800-992-1997 daimlerchrysler. to be told there is nothing that can be done for us the mileage of the car was outside warranty. the mechanic's quote for is over $2000. i'm not sure what to do right now to get to work and manage my usual weekly errands.
During routine yearly state inspection, inspector found that engine cradle was rotted out.. the engine cradle has big hole on right side from rot. i have been told by numerous body shops that this part of frame should never rust through.
On routine check by my mechanic, he noticed that the engine cradle had rusted so badly that he can stick his fist through one section. called chrysler corporate and opened up a case with them. they told me to take it to the dealership for a "diagnostic". called chrysler back and told them the pacifica was at the dealership and they could call to get the results. they refused to speak with the dealership and told me i was out of warranty and that they would not replace the defective part. why send me for a diagnostic then?? just to get my $125 dollars?? extremely frustrated. chrysler dealership mechanic said he would not be driving his family around in the car if it were his. this seems to be a recurring problem from what i have found on line. please investigate!
I was recently at the dealership to receive a routine oils change when i was informed by them that the engine cradle has become rusted and may in the future fail. and according to chrysler, my vehicle isn't covered by their recall. this should not be the case, as it fits the description of all the other vehicles covered by their recall.
I recently changed my own oil on this vehicle. when i was underneath of it i observed 1 medium sized rust hole thru the subframe and 2 smaller rust holes in the subframe. this is an issue with these vehicles after i further looked into the issue that others were having with this vehicle. i have pictures of this issue. this is known as cradle rot. the lower motor mount of the engine is bolted into this subframe. and if continues to get worse the engine can fall out of the vehicle. not only i have 3 holes in it there is a lot of rust on this subframe that looks could be more of an issue in the years to come. i do not understand thru all the years of being under vehicles this is by far one of the worse i have ever seen. i do not feel safe now driving this car. especially with my family in it. this car may be 10yrs old but has low miles and is in very good condition. you would never know by looking at this vehicle inside and out that there is something majorly wrong underneath it, unless you yourself crawled under it. and the vehicle has always been garage kept.
Took car to get oil change today was told when i picked it up that the engine cradle was rotten and that it was unsafe to drive contacted chrysler abt issue and was told that its my problem to fix even after finding letter of warranty that extended the coverage for cradle to 10 years 150000 mile nowhere did it say in letter abt it being for a 6 week span between feb and may needs to be a recall
I own a 2005 pacifica limited, i purchased this car in 2009 from a chrysler dealer. i have taken this car back to the same dealer who sold me the car for servicing (oil change, repairs, ect). not once was i informed (during the purchase or any time during servicing the pacifica) about the rotting subframe. i have all of my records showing the inspection underneath with no mention of the rotting/rusted subframe. this car belongs to my wife and she drives our two kids in this car (not anymore). after reviewing other similar complaints i am very upset and frustrated with this whole situation. i have had electrical problems with this car and the whole time it could have been from the rotting/rusted subframe (that was never mentioned). i have put soooo much money into the repairs of this car and i feel like most could have been avoided, had i known about the subframe.

Extensive undercarriage rust was found during a routine oil change. this rust effects the motor bolts as well as motor support carriage. the mechanic has advised that the car is not safe to drive. the car has 81,268 miles and has been well maintained. upon investigation, i discovered this problem has been consistently reported by owners of this vehicle. the car has been used to transport children on the highway and after examining the rust damage chrysler should have notified owners of this serious safety risk and should be responsible for the repair.
Took my pacifica in for a car alignment and walked out with the news that my engine is about to fall. i found out that my sub frame front engine cradle needs to be replace asap, otherwise it's not safe for me and my baby to drive . there's a huge rust problem, when i called the chrysler dealer they told me that there was no recall and that the fixing cost would be around $2500.00. i started researching this problem and found out it?s a widespread issue. guess it sucks to be all the rest of us. nothing ever was mentioned about this defect in the rusty engine cradle and god knows what could happen if it won't be fix. i am a single parent and i can't afford to pay for someone's mistakes. ...updated 09/22/15 *bf updated 11/28/2017*cn
Engine motor mount failure was reported by servicing mechanic. it was replaced. it had to be replaced again after only 4000 miles (92000 odometer). after some haggling, it was replaced by mechanic under warranty but no explanation regarding how this could happen so soon.

I put my car in reverse, yesterday and the car stalled. i just had a mechanic look at my car today and just found out the subframe of my pacifica is rotted and cracked! i was told not to drive it because the engine is abnormally lifting up and slamming down on to the starter wire and causing sparks which could cause a fire! i'm surprised there isn't a recall on this already!!
Engine cradle rot is a serious problem in the 2004-05 chrysler pacifica. chrysler admits they didn't apply enough coating to the vehicle's sub-frame during assembly, but only offered to cover a very small portion of the vehicles they messed up. so what happens when your engine craddle rotts? well, the engine could fall out for starters. it could also cause problems with the suspension and other components. but, did i mention the engine can fall out? the worst part is you might not know because there's no way to see the problem without getting under the car. updated 12/9/2015 *js
Went to have vibration in the front checked and the mechanic discovered the big hole from the rot on the engine cradle went to a local body shop to get repaired . a new cradle is 3600 $ a used one is 600 we opted to order a used one and hopefully my wife and children and grandchildren will be safe . no thanks to chryslers negligence in ignoring the issues . they seem to forget who made them a company the consumer.

I had been having issues with my vehicle sputtering while driving on and off for a few months. i had a tune- up done which worked for a few weeks until it started up again. i was driving my children to school when the car started to jerk front and back and the engine would alternate between reving up and sputtering like it was going to die out. i managed to drop my kids of at school and get back home. my husband took the car in and they service guy said that it would cost around $5000.00 to repair. he stated that the engine mount was cracked and the frame was rusted which had caused damage to some of the vehicle wiring. we took it to another shop and the service guy at this shop said the same. he told us that the vehicle was not safe to drive that the engine could essentially fall right out while i was driving it. needless to say i decided not to drive the vehicle again. i used this vehicle to drive my children everywhere. i am extremely frustrated with this situation because i was not aware of this type of problem with my vehicle prior to this incident. i am thankful that nothing happened while i was driving with my children; but i can't help but wonder how may other people are out there driving around in this vehicle not knowing what could happen. my husband contacted chrylser which was a waste of time. i wonder how they can get away with this. not only am i out of a car but i cant get much on a trade in because the vehicle isn't safe to drive.
Engine cradle is rotted out
Engine cradle rusted out
During an oil change, massive rust was found in the engine craddle, sub frame. failure of these parts would be catastrop. chrysler has acknowledged this problem with a small subset of these cars but clearly applies to all as similar symptoms are showing in cars outside the group sleected for relief. this is wrong, this is not safe, this is not fair.
Vehicle subframe (engine cradle) is rotted out and vehicle is unsafe to drive. chrysler issued a recall for this but only for a 6 week period for 2004 models. looking online i see hundreds of complaints of the 2005 pacifica. i have photos. subframe is about to fall apart and this will cause the engine to drop. this is a major defect. chrysler needs to address this issue. how many owners look under their car at the subframe? it;s a hidden defect that will kill someone one day. subframes are not supposed to rot away at the 10 year point. this is a major major defect. please let me send you photos.

My vehicle began stalling while being driven on the street and highways, when turning and while stopped for light changes. had to have battery "jumped" or charged several times. battery had to be replaced twice because of discharged from alternator. had alternator replaced. battery continued to drained. vehicle ran for one day and completely shut down while in motion. after jump starting the battery, vehicle ran for a couple of minutes. was told by service mechanics, battery or alternator problems even after having those parts replaced. finally had the vehicle towed to dealership that specialized in chryslers and was shock when he stated it was the pcm (powertrain control module) which i believed and researched was part a recall for 2005 pacificas in 2006. told by the dealership that the fuel pump was fixed which is not the problem of this vehicle. the pcm is the problem, and the dealership is not owning this. i did not purchase the vehicle until 2010; so i honestly believed that this problem was not repair but claimed to had been. when referencing the recall notification (which i did not receive personally), the fuel pump problem was replaced for 2004 models not 2005 models. pcm problems were that of the 2005 models which was not repaired or replaced for this vehicle. i have had my vehicle towed approximately 7 times now. i am still paying insurance for a vehicle that is unable to be driven. the dealership wants to charge me $1000 for repair, that is a little less that half of what the vehicle is worth.
Loud clunking noise when shifting into reverse from park or taking off from a stop. once it is in 2nd or 3rd gear you don't feel or hear noise. i figured my motor mounts were bad again (replaced about 4 years ago) and when i checked they looked bad so i took it to a local repair shop. they confirmed they were shot but also said my engine cradle was rusted out and that was why the motor mounts probably went bad so fast. we have had 3 bad winters in indiana and they use a lot of salt. so, i searched the internet and found plenty of similar complaints but chrysler isn't doing enough to repair or compensate owners for the cost. there is a class action suit filed in ohio that i will try to get on board with in hopes of recovering some costs. i'm afraid to transport my daughter and friends in my vehicle, which is the primary vehicle for our family.

I took my 2005 pacifica for a routine oil change last week, and our mechanic discovered a large area of the engine cradle was completely rotted away on the passenger side of the undercarriage. he said it's not safe to drive until something is done to fix it, because the engine could fall out of the car at any time. after doing some research online, we discovered that we are not the only ones who have this problem on this make and model. we took the car to our local chrysler dealer, and they will have to install a new engine cradle at an estimated cost of $2300. i then contacted chrysler customer care, and they took a stance of plausible deniability, telling me that this is a problem unique to my pacifica. i explained that there is irrefutable proof that it isn't unique to my vehicle. all pacificas are prone to this failure. when i asked about the extension chrysler issued for the warranty on pacificas because of this very issue and why owners were never notified, the representative did not deny there was an extension; however, he informed me that my car is too old and well past any warranty mileage (which it isn't at 138,600 miles). at that point the representative became rude. when i asked to speak with a superior, he informed me there was no one else i could speak to on this issue and there is nothing chrysler will do to assist me in the matter. all in all, i'm (1) alarmed that chrysler is not addressing this significant safety hazard in this model, and (2) frustrated that they refuse to do anything to correct the problem. i'd even be happy with a compromise, for instance, if they would supply the part and we would pay for the labor, but they shut the door in my face. hoping the nhtsa can investigate and call them to account for such shoddy construction. *tr
2005 chrysler pacifica engine cradle is rusted out and the engine could fall out of the car. i find the car to be unsafe to drive. that is the only thing is rusted out on the car, this needs to be fix by chrysler. *tr
The engine sub frame has and is rusted out. *tr
Own a 2005 pacifica. i went to mechanic and he said i should replace the subframe because it is corroded, have 2" holes in it and if it continues to rust, the engine may fell off. i went online to check how much it is and once i put chrysler pacifica sub frame all i can see was the word recall. i called chryler and they say have no recalls on my car. the mechanic and a lot of other folks having the same problem are quoting their mechanic that the subframe should not rust at all. i don't understand why chrusler is not taking care of the problem but i do understand why they don't make pacifica anymore. because it is s@#$@#&^ car. please do something about it. multi million dollar car company should take care of the problem not the individuals. btw i will never own a chrysler vehicle again and i will spread the word around to anyone i talk to stay away from chrysler brand. hope this complain makes something happen. *tr

I sent my 2005 chrysler pacifica with my mother to have an inspection done. two codes came up to be fixed so i sent her to my mechanic to have the codes repaired. the codes were never repaired because when my mechanic put my chrysler pacifica on the lift he said that there was so much rust on and around the engine cradle and there was a hole so big that he could literally put his hand in it. my mechanic told my mother to call me at work and tell me to park this car and do not put any more money into fixing this car because it is not safe to drive as the engine could fall out at any tome because the engine cradle is almost completely rusted. i am very upset with this situation because chrysler refuses to acknowledge their wrong doing that is putting so many people's families lives in danger!!! *tr
Purchased a 2005 chrysler pacifica from private party. was not told about frame being rusted right through. went to drive the car and could not drive. was so scared and i was not safe. brought to mechanic and was told engine cradle was rotted and the car was not drive-able and is not safe. i called chrysler and they refused to pay for the part to be fixed. i live in a high salt band state in ny and it should be covered as the letter that was sent out in 2011 stated it should have been covered. now i have no vehicle and it would cost over $4500 to be fixed. chrysler should have to recall these cars and fix the problem. we can die from this huge problem. the engine will just fall out of the car. i am really hoping that nhtsa will do something about this. *tr
I have a 2005 chrysler pacifica touring and i took it to the dealer to find out the engine cradle is rotted. i did some investigating and this is a know safety issue with the 2004 and 2005 chrysler pacifica's. chrysler refuses to help in this issue. they really aren't standing behind the product. *tr

Engine cradle corrosion has subjected vehicle and passengers to potentially catastrophic structural failure. sub-frame is sufficiently rusted to result in frame bending. furthermore, the vehicle front wheels can no longer be properly aligned. this front-end alignment issue persists despite purchasing and installing the aftermarket camber kit necessary for the alignment rear wheels. *js

Our vehicle has had a shake to it for a couple years. we have had it looked at numerous times and have been told they can't find anything wrong with it. our vehicle went into a shop today as the inspection is due by end of jan. 2015 . the shop called and advised our engine cradle is rusted thru. advised us it would cost a couple thousand dollars to repair. i did some looking on the internet, found out chrysler had a recall on engine cradles that were not property coated which allowed rust to damage the cradle. i contacted chrysler - and was told that the recall was for veh made between 2/23/04 - 3/31/04. my vehicle was made 7/04. my daughter, on our advice, owns the same year of the vehicle. her vehicle was made 9/04. chrysler told me they can't help me and ended the conversation. there are so many complaints on the internet all dealing with the engine cradle issue. we can't afford to have this repaired at this time as i am ill and not able to work and my husband (55 years old) had a heart attack on his 55th birthday and has just gone back to work. i am sick over this and afraid to tell my husband for fear he will have another heart attack. chrysler should be ashamed of their selves. thank you for listening. *tr
