We have classified the 36 complaints from 2005 Chrysler Pacifica about FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE into the following categories.
Car stall when making sharp left hands turns. it has done this two consecutive days in a row. i searched the vin on chrysler and there are no open recalls. the found that there was a recall for this on 2005 pacifica's but i am unable to find out if mine was ever corrected. *tr
Before a leave my town, i tried to put some gas on my tank but car took only 15 dollars worth of gas. i then assumed that the thank was full and then went on my trip. i drove for about fifteen minutes and my gauge that was full dropped to half tank. it was weird but i kept on driving since i had half tank of gas. i was on the highway when after twenty minutes, the gauge dropped to empty and since the gas station was not nearby, i kept on driving to find some gas and the car just stopped because it was out of gas. when i went to the mechanics, they said that one the car has two tanks and that one was empty and one full. they also said that the problem is common to pacificas. chrysler needs to recall those cars before somebody gets hurt. *tr
When parking or low speed 2 to 5 mph the gas pedal stick you have to hit it hard it happen to the wife two times and now she dose not like driving it happen to me 3 or 4 times. the 1st time she said what is the matter with you. has this happen to other people [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
My gas pedal sticks while driving the car or after i stop the car at a light or sign. when at a complete stop, i have to push hard on the pedal, which makes the car lurch forward. when i am driving on the expressway, it gets stuck and i am not able to accelerate, which can cause an accident. i see that i am not the only one with this problem. i took the car to the dealership, the tech knew what i was talking about, said that it was a throttle body assembly that gets old and needs to be replaced for 200 bucks. if this is happening on the majority of the pacificas, why do the consumers need to pay to have it replaced. this is a strict liability negligence, not my fault. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that fuel would spill from of the fuel tank when the vehicle was being refueled. the contact stated that the leak was coming from under the tank where the fuel lines were clamped down. the vehicle was not inspected or repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 120,000.
1) when depressing the accelerator pedal about 1/4" it catches or sticks. 2) you must force the pedal down to "unstick" causing a rapid acceleration of the vehicle 3) dealer says its a defective throttle body, and not covered under warranty or recall. *tr
I have a 2005 chyrsler pacifica. the gas pedal is sticking. it sticks hard enough that you have to forcefully push the accelerator peddle down. this causes unwanted rapid acceleration! the problem is getting worse in the past three weeks. the pedal has gotten stuck four times. i was backing out of a parking space and the car accelerated in reverse. unsure, if my family car is safe, for my family.
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. while driving approximately 55 mph the vehicle stalled. the vehicle would not restart and it was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 80,000.
Gas gauge drops to empty from 1/2 to 3/4 tank instantly; occasionally returns to 1/2 full without notice. $10 gas takes gauge from empty to 1/2 full. never know how much gas is in car. then about a week after this started, at 75000 miles, the check engine light illuminated on dash. took to have a diagnostic run, came up, "dealer specific code". very similar to other complaints noted on this page. *tr
My 2005 chrysler pacifica stalls when a left hand turn is made at highway speed or in parking lots. this is very, very dangerous because you lose braking and power steering. the gas gauge goes from half a tank to empty within a matter of 50 miles or less. when you try to re-fuel it you only get about ten gallons to go in after about ten minutes of the nozzle clicking off repeatedly. called chrysler dealer and they have never heard of any of these problems. took car in and they found nothing wrong. i know for a fact that a dtc of p1861 is and was present. this codes means that a fuel tank siphon line is disconnected. this vehicle makes me and my family nervous to drive. we can not afford to trade and can not afford any costly repair bills with no positive outcome. please help to get chrysler to issue a recall to fix the problem that is occurring with so, so so many 2005 pacificas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica touring (na). the contact stated that the fuel gauge gave incorrect fuel amounts. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who informed the contact that they would recalibrate the gauge and for her to fill the tank again and to wait and see. after leaving the dealer and filling her tank, the failure occurred again. the manufacturer was then contacted and advised her that if the vehicle had not stalled on her they would be unable to assist. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000 and the current mileage was approximately 60,000. the vin was unavailable.
2005 chrysler pacifica throttle requires excessive force to depress causing the vehicle to lurch forward when the throttle finally moves. we reported the issue to our dealer approximately 18 months ago. they seemed to have prior knowledge of the issue and repaired it while the vehicle was in for repairs after striking a dog (unreleated to the defect). now the issue has returned and when my wife called to schedule service to have the issue repaired again the dealership wouldn't schedule a time to repair the defect and actually acted as if they weren't aware of the issue and would need several hours to troubleshoot the issue prior to repairing it. i researched the issue online and evidently this is an issue with the throttle body assembly which typically takes an hour of labor time to treat the symptom which eventually returns. it also seems to be a common issue with the pacifica. the issue with our vehicle is becomming serious and now that our local dealership in lugoff, sc seems to have no desire to help us i'm not sure where to take it for repair.
Defective sticking gas pedal on chrysler pacifica. *tr
The car will stall at intermittent times when going at low speeds and low rpms. the stalling causes the steering wheel to freeze up. the car will start immediately after the stall. i have taken the car to an authorized chrysler dealer, darcars, several times and they cannot diagnose the problem. it appears similar in nature to the safety recall f44 which was issued on later chrysler pacifica models in 2005-2006. the issue occurs almost daily and have not had any parts replaced because the chrysler mechanic, darcars, cannot duplicate the issue. i have brought this stalling issue up with chrysler and opened up a case, # 19090751, which they closed because they stated that my car was outside the safety recall f44 as well as that darcars could not replicate the problem. the stalling is intermittent, as stated previously, and i have sent the logs to darcars as to when it happens. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. when making left turns the vehicle stalled without prior warnings. usually after waiting for several minutes the vehicle can be restarted. his model year was affected by recall # 06v432000 (power train:automatic transmission:control module )(tcm, pcm). according to the recall the dealers will reprogram the power train control module. the fuel pump module will also be replaced on vehicles built from august 1, 2004 through september 30, 2004. the dealer will only update the software for his vehicle . he has to pay for the fuel pump. the failure mileage 80,000.
2005 chrysler pacifica fuel tank that goes from half to empty and then dies, has replaced fuel pumps for the fourth time and it is happening again in just two weeks. *tr
Bought the car in january, 2009, the car stop on the freeway, push on the gas would not go, pedal stuck, the coolant systems do not work car will run hot, called chrysler, they were no help is there any thing can be done, you buy a car and it is a piece of junk, all chrysler do is pass the buck as well get stuck with junk. *tr
I have a 2005 chrysler pacifica awd touring edition. along with my fuel quantity problem, i also have a stalling problem now. researching on edmunds.com, it seems i am not the only one. the vehicle shuts down when coming to a stop. since my fuel gage is not working, i have been using my trip meter to gauge mileage and tank quantity. right around 110-150 miles after a fill-up, my vehicle starts to shut off. when i fill it, it only takes about 7-10 gallons of fuel. then it drives fine. this is a major problem, especially since my spouse transports the children to and from school on a major highway with alot of traffic and many stops on the road. there are many owners of this year that are having the same issues. it seems like a malfunction that may have to due with the f44 fuel pump and control module reprogramming recall. we had this completed on the car. now we have problems. i was told by the dealer that this is not associated with the recall. we never had problems prior to the recall being performed. *tr
2005 awd chrysler pacifica, gas pedal binds requiring driver to overpressure the pedal to move forward. once overpowered the car can lurch forward from the sudden over fuel condition. *tr
Gas gauge drops from 1/2 to empty in seconds if you don't get to a gas station quickly the vehicle will shut off. there is no warning. vehicle still has gas but will shut off. we have been stranded several times on the interstate. very dangerous for a family. according to searches i have made lots of 2005 pacificas have the same problem starting at around 45,000 miles. i haven't found any answers to the problem. *tr
Fuel tank valve defective, allowing fuel into charcoal chamber, also issues with other valves related to the gas tank. fuel module pcm and tank replacement were required. *tr
My wife and i own a 2005 chrysler pacifica, which we are having a problem with the gas pedal sticking. while accelerating the pedal sticks and jerks you forward until you have smooth acceleration while pushing the gas pedal. i feel this is a safety problem. we have been to the dealers about this and they say everything is fine but have noticed the problem themselves. i have noticed that there is alot of the same problems after browsing the internet that others are having the same problem. this is going to get someone killed if this isn't looked into. thank you. *tr
2005 chrysler pacifica, started having problems at 50,000 miles. abs sensors had to be replaced and recall for fuel module...but most upsetting the car stalls at low speeds or while making turns..ie: pulling into parking spaces,etc.. i have brought it to dealership and like many others without engine light on they cannot duplicate problem, therefore we are sent on our way with no fix!! i have 4 children and i am terrified to drive this car!! why wont chrysler stand behind these vehicles!!!*tr
I have had my 2005 chrysler pacifica for less than a week when my fuel gauge went from 1/2 of a tank to empty while driving. then it went back up to 1/2 of a tank a minute later. when i went down a hill the vehicle stalled and had to be put in park and restarted. i have two small children and this scared me. i looked up my vin number but found no recall, however i found this similar problem in other 05 pacificas and i found that they had been recalled. i have my car back at the dealership getting fixed but am desperate to find out if this recall could be my problem. *tr
Car stalls and reads that the tank is empty even when there is gas in the vehicle. it occurs regularly. nothing has been done yet. i was told egr system, then throttle body, and now i supposedly need a $1000 fuel pump job. very irritated. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. whenever the fuel tank reaches the half full mark, it immediately drops to empty. the failure causes the vehicle to shut off within a mile of being driven. the contact did not notice any differences in the vehicle prior to the failure. the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. two years prior to the failure, the vehicle was serviced for the pcm module, which has been changed three times since the contact has owned the vehicle. the current mileage was 53,000 and failure mileage was 48,000.
While driving on highway 105, vehicle ran over some road debris (piece of metal) that subsequently punctured fuel tank. fuel tank was temporarily patched to stop leak. fuel tank is made of high-density polyethylene plastic and is unshielded in the forward area of the tank, exactly where it was struck by the road debris. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle coasted to a stop and failed. the vehicle was pushed into a parking lot. the following day, gasoline was added and the vehicle was restarted. the vehicle failed six times and was then taken to the dealer. the dealer stated that both fuel pumps needed to be replaced. the vin and engine size were unknown. the current mileage was 67,350 and failure mileage was 65,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact was involved in two crashes. in the first crash, the contact struck a deer and the air bags failed to deploy. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for repair, but the more it was repaired, the more failures were found. in the second crash, the vehicle automatically accelerated uphill at a high rate of speed and spun out. the vehicle flipped over repeatedly and landed upside down, nearly killing the contact. the vehicle was destroyed. a police report was filed. after the crashes, she received a safety recall notice for the fuel pump module or program pcm. the speed, recall number, and mileages were unknown.
Check engine light at approximately 40,000 miles. the check light has come on the vehicle indicating cylinder three misfired. i have taken vehicle to the shop the first time and had the coil replaced. the same light came on with the same warning. this time the spark plugs were replaced, the injections cleaned out, the throttle body cleaned out. i just got it back yesterday and i feel confident that i will have the same thing over the next few days. when this happens, the vehicle idles rough and the car has no power. this vehicle has been maintained higher than the standards call for in the manual. looks like chrysler is good for about 40,000 miles, then be prepared to spend some money. i plan to trade the vehicle for a toyota, though i had supported american made vehicles in the past, with a product like this, you can't afford to. the total cost thus far has been $600.00. it appears that chrsyler knows the problem exists because of the bulletins, yet they will not recall the car ,and do what is right for the consumers. people can't afford to pay for a vehicle and repair it at the same time with so few miles. the pacifica is a great riding car ,and i otherwise thoroughly enjoyed it. *ak
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that when she placed fuel in the vehicle, the gauge showed that the tank was full. the vehicle would only take a few gallons and nothing more. she would attempt to force more gas into the tank, but it would spill out. the vehicle shut off on the contact due to the lack of gas not indicated by the fuel gauge. the dealer replaced the level sensors the first time. the second time the vehicle was taken to the dealer, they replaced the modular fuel pump and the primary pump. on april 20, 2007, the dealer repaired the hoses on the fuel line. on march 11, 2008, the contact attempted to fill the tank, but it only took six gallons. while driving at an unknown speed, the fuel indicator went to empty and the vehicle shut off. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they replaced both fuel pumps. the dealer informed her that she had not run out of gas. the purchase date was unknown. the current mileage was 73,904 and failure mileage was 60,233.
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that she has been experiencing failures with the fuel tank. whenever she attempts to add fuel to the vehicle, it will not take more than five gallons, and the dial never indicates that it is more then 3/4 full. also, the dial will move from half a tank down to empty within 60 miles. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer more than six times and they replaced the level kit sensor, which did not repair the failure. within weeks, the dealer replaced the fuel pump module, which also did not repair the failure. a month later they repaired the full tank hoses, but the failure persisted. a year later, the fuel pump module was replaced once again. after all of these repairs, the failure has not yet been properly corrected. the failure is causing the vehicle to stall while driving 15 mph. the failure mileage was 61,000 and current mileage was 84,000.
Several problems with replacing headlights annually about three months apart since ownership 10/06, problem with engine light repeatedly coming on - was advised by certified mechanic it's the fuel tank, very expensive to replace or fix. *tr
Bought 2005 chrysler pacifica in july 2006. since that time i have had numerous problems with the vehicle. when the gas gauge is at approximately 1/3 tank of gas it suddenly drops to empty and begins stalling upon turns. i took the vehicle back to the dealership and they did not know what the problem was and asked me to bring the vehicle back when it was at approximately 1/3 tank so they could do testing. i was without my vehicle one whole day for this and did not have time to take it back again. next, i received a recall notice that claimed to fix the stalling problem. yesterday i took my vehicle in to have the recall performed. again, i was without my vehicle all day. today, after the recall, my vehicle is still having the same problems. the gas gauge dropped suddenly to empty and began stalling at this point. there are other problems that may be related. after the car is reading empty and i proceed to put gasoline in the tank it will only allow 13 gallons to be pumped, the owners manual claims that the vehicle has a 23 gallon tank. however, i have never been able to put more than 13 gallons of gas in the tank. also, every now and then when i try to put fuel in the tank, the hose will continually shut off as if the vehicle is full. sometimes this happens the whole time i am filling up and i have to just keep on clicking, clicking, clicking . . . to get the gas to go into the vehicle. these problems have caused our family much distress and the stalling is a very real safety issue. thank you for your help with this. susan ashcraft. *nm
11/18/06 - car stalled in parking lot in ocean city, md. was able to restart it 8 hrs. later. 11/19/06 - car stalled on chesapeake bay bridge (us 50) near end heading westward. was able to coast onto shoulder. car towed to dealer tate chrysler jeep, inc., glen burnie, md. 11/22/06 - received in mail daimler chrysler's safety recall f44 --fuel pump and or reprogram pcm stating that a problem could cause engine to stall and cause a crash without warning. i took the recall notice to the dealer. service manager said that was not the cause of the problem. he said half of the engine would have to be replaced. final cost --$4976 parts and labor. work was completed on 01/05/07. on 01/11/07, after about 300 miles of driving, engine stalled on baltimore-washington parkway (md295). i was again able to coast off onto the shoulder. car was towed back to tate chrysler, where it is now located. *jb
I brought my car to the dealership in late august for regular maintenance. i told them i was having a long crank when starting the car. they said i probably did not put the gas cap on tight and air got into the tank. i disagreed with this but supposedly diagnostics these days pick up on everything. a week later i was driving down an incline and my gas gauge dropped from 1/2 tank to e. i immediately pulled into a gas station and the tank took 15 gallons. we run through a tank of gas maybe once every two weeks. usually, i top off the tank. therefore, i did not notice this problem again until last weekend. in this instance, when the gas gauge got to just below 1/2 tank , dropped to e and stalled. we were in highway traffic. we immediately restarted the car and got to a gas station. the car would only take 8 gallons. i am bringing it to the dealer tomorrow. btw, still have the long crank...it has never gone away. *nm
My 2005 chrysler pacifica stalled while turning left at a slow speed. this happened while going around a roundabout in the road. unsafe because the power steering and brakes make controlling car very hard. *nm
Dt*: the contact stated while stopped at a traffic lights the vehicle would stall without warning. this occurred on several occasions. the vehicle was restated and driven to the dealer each time where the problem could not be duplicated. updated 9/18/2006 - the vehicle is manufacturers with two fuel tanks and two fuel pumps. it was later determined that the secondary pump failed leaving the vehicle with the use of only on tank. the cv joint failed which caused a clunking sound when putting the vehicle in reverse or drive. . *nm
2005 chrysler pacifica - 13,000 miles - same issue as nhtsa investigation #ea06-013. gas gauge is misreading and vehicle stalls without warning. new fuel pump cannot be provided at this time, is on backorder from manufacturer. *nm
2005 chrysler pacifica when gas tank gets to half full, needle drops suddenly to empty and car stalls. i had a tsb software update at dealer, did not fix problem. i had right side fuel pump module replaced, did not solve problem. *jb
(1) vehicle driven two months after purchased used from dealer with about 12,500 miles on it ; tank filled to capacity normally, no stalling incidents. (2) vehicle began hesitating while downhill on a driveway, tank near empty. filled tank, but only took 9.6 gallons. when driven to the top of the red empty range, car began to hesitate, or even stall at a stop light. progressively from that point, less and less fuel can be pumped into the tank, and dealer determined that one half of the tank is full, the other at the filler neck is part full. dealer believes a "valve" inside the tank is the problem -- part on order. meanwhile, i can not fill the tank with more that 4.5 gallons, and it reads 2/3 full at that point. car continues to stall on downhill driveway when gauge reads at the top of the red empty range. when tank cap is removed, there is a rush of air either in or out of the tank. *jb
Dt: the contact stated turning left into a drive or a private lot that has an incline the vehicle stalls. the vehicle restarts each time. the dealership installed a co-pilot and determined the fuel pump was losing power. the fuel pump was replaced. the problem continued and the dealership was unable to determine the problem.*ak the left turn signal failed, the abs light illuminated, which resulted in the replacement of the wheel speed sensor, the left real tail light and battery were replaced. updated 08/14/06. *jb
Dt*: the contact stated while driving at various speeds the vehicle stalled without warning. the dealer replaced the idler control motor but the problem persists. *ak when the gas gauge reads a half tank, the needle would drop. the dealer replaced the sending unit, fuel level module. *jb
About a month and a half ago, my chrysler pacifica 2005 started to have a couple of probably related problems, one of which can be dangerous. the car will stall when turning left. if a car is coming up behind me, i could get rear ended. the other problem is that my fuel gauge will show a half tank one minute and almost empty the next. when i have filled up, it would only take 15 gallons, meaning that there are still 8 gallons left. i have an appointment in one week with my local dealer and hope that they can fix this, as it is potentially dangerous. *jb
Vehicle shut off during left turn in busy intersection and narrowly avoided accident. dealer notified right away and appointment made. reluctant to even drive to dealer because of safety issue. *nm
1. the vehicle stalls and/or turns off when making a left turn. it also stalls and/or turns off at stop lights when the gas pedal is pressed to . the fuel tank is at half full during all events and actually drops to zero for minute then returns to half full. 2. i have almost been hit in traffic, at intersections, several times because the vehicle quit. i am only able to fill the tank half of the time otherwise it only let me fill to 3/4 full. due to the mpg rating this means frequent trips to the gas station. 3. i have taken it to the dealership 3 times. they were "unable to reproduce" the problem the first two times. they determined that it was a fuel module problem after the third time because the problem occurred with the service technician was there. a replacement part has been ordered but has been, of course, on backorder for 3 weeks. still no fix. cars stopping in traffic is a serious safety issue. please do a quick search on the internet and you will find many instances of the problem. it's not isolated and should be investigated as a recall. thank you. *nm
During the first week of june, 2006 i noticed a few things that seemed to all begin at the same time. my pacifica would not start right away when i first attempted to start it after it had been sitting over night, it would hesitate when i took off from a stop if i had been on a downhill incline and the gas gauge would drop to empty as soon as the tank was down to five-eighths full. the problem went away as soon as i filled the tank, but the next week it happened again when the tank got down to five-eighths. i called the dealer to make an appointment to have it looked at and the earliest they could take it was june 21st. the problem got much worse by the time the 21st came around. every time i came to a stop the engine would stall. it would start back up if the car was put in drive, but if it was on a downhill incline it would not restart. i took the car to the dealer on june 21st and was told it needed a fuel pump. they called me later that day and said the part was back ordered, but they should have it in a day or two. well, today is july 19th and my car is still at the dealer waiting for a part. evidently the pacificas have a primary fuel pump and a jet pump. so many of the cars have had this problem (there are hundreds of complaints listed on edmunds.com forum) that evidently they can't keep up with the demand for these pumps. i filed a complaint with the chrysler customer assistance center on july 11th. i don't know if it has done any good, but they do call the dealer each time i call them while they have me on the phone. i am trying to be patient because i love this car, but this is getting ridiculous. it is also having a new power seat memory module installed because both power seats stopped working and it had a new transfer case installed because of a clicking/clunking noise in the front end during turns. *nm
For the last two months my car has not wanted to start on the first try. always have to turn the key a second time. this happens first thing in the morning since the car has sat all night. also, my fuel gauge is not reading appropriately to the level of gas in the tank. at approximately a 1/4 of a tank the gauge instantly goes to empty. i put in 2 gallons of gas and miraculously the gas gauge reads 1/2 tank. now those who own a pacifies know that two gallons does not fill your tank half way. this morning my fuel gauge read 3/4 tank and my od read approx. 111 miles for the trip thus far. i wanted to fill it up but the car would only take in 2 gallons. turned on the car the fuel gauge did not move from 3/4 tank. drove 25 miles and somehow my gauge read almost full. i have also noticed that at time when i step on the gas pedal my car does not seem to speed up. it is almost as if i was in neutral. i have brought my car back to the dealer on two occasions and have another appointment scheduled and they tell me that they can not duplicate the problem. they claim the car starts fine for them, even if left overnight. also, they claim to have syphoned gas out of my tank and the gauge reads appropriately to the amount of gas that was in the tank. approximately a year ago my car did stall as i was taking a left hand turn at a low speed. i immediately contacted the dealer and was told they it normal for a car to occasionally do that. these are very serious and potentially dangerous incident as i have my toddler with me in the car most of the time. *jb
vehicle stalls without warning when fuel level gauge is near half tank. the fuel level will go down to half and soon after it will drop unexpectedly to e and will stall out before you know what is happening. car will restart and make it to a gas station. upon filling the tank it will only take 9-11 gallons of gas. this car has a 23 gallon tank. the tank also has problems filling. it takes 5-10 min of frustration to get 10 gal in it. rollover ball maybe? *jb
Vehicle has shut off many times when making a left turn, sometimes when going straight and now this week indicator says it is out of gas with few miles til empty displayed on dash- will tank up and only takes 10 gallons to top off- it was not empty then it will start again. *nm
