2005 chrysler pacifica the car shuts off when making a sharp turn. it shut off today 11/26/06 when pulling out into traffic almost causing use to be involved in a serious accident with my children in car. the first few times it happened i was driving and i thought maybe my leg hit the key as it is positioned poorly for tall drivers but ,the ignition would still be in the on position so. tonight again it happened and my wife is 5'1 and comes no where's near the key. it turns off on its own. i am very concerned about the safety of my family while operating this vehicle. *nm

There is a significant popping and clicking sound when accelerating and stopping. also happens when moving the gear shift. car surges forward when popping sound happens. took to dealer and they said i had to live with it as it is a problem with the car they can not fix. so need to now what to do. also engine stalls. this has happened twice. the first time i was at a crawl in traffic, but at an incline onto a bridge. i had my foot on the brake and then put it on the gas petal to accelerate and the car died. lights and dash board are lit but car is shut off. car restarted with no problem. second time, i was parking in a spot that was again at an incline. i put the car in reverse, took my foot off the brake and stepped on the gas petal to begin driving in reverse, car died. both times i had approximately 3/4 of a tank of gas. also the shop don't want to give you a rental or loner car while the repairs are done. *jb

Our 2005 pacifica touring awd was purchased new in 2005, we had a problem with the cruise control at about 4000 miles. when driving out of town the cruise control shut off, the indicator light on the instrument panel still had the cruise light on , but the set light went off. we could not use the cruise control until we pulled over and restarted the engine. this happened again around 16000 miles. both times the dealer said they could not recreate the problem. around 17, 500 miles the radio would not delay and stayed on after the ignition was turned to off. *ak about two weeks later the map lights would not work when the engine was running. it was brought to the dealer and we were told that the body control module (bcm) was bad and it would be replaced. the part was ordered and installed. in january of 2007 my wife (seven months pregnant) and members of her family drove the pacifica to kansas for a family wedding. on the return trip while driving through texas around 10:00pm the instrument panel, brake lights, turn signals, radio, air conditioner/heater all failed. the only working interior/exterior lights were the automatic headlights. she called me and i notified the dealer, who told me to have her bring it in "when she gets back". thankfully a family member in the car had a gps enabled cell phone with a speedometer and they made it back without incident. the bcm was found to be the problem and a new unit was ordered and installed. in march of 2007 the map lights once again stopped working and the vehicle was brought to the dealership yet again. once again the bcm was the problem and it was replaced. we notified chrysler customer service and they had the dealer technician check the wire splicing for the instrument panel thinking that was the problem. the technician could not find anything that would cause the bcm failures and we were told that it should not happen again. needless to say we are worried that this may start happening again.

My 05 pacifica will not start randomly, will just click click click. a small jump will get it going again. battery, alternator, electrical all supposedly check out. happens randomly. one it happened just 10 minutes after i had driven the car. chrysler dealer claims it happens to many. it stranded me. *nm

2005 chrysler pacifica stalls without warning. this is the 3rd time in 2 months that my pacifica has just died @ low speed. the car doesn't just stall, but it completely shuts down. each time that it stalled, all of the electronics turned off, however, the only thing that was on was the oil light. when the car was taken to the dealership, no fault codes were returned.*jb

Dt*: the contact stated at various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle restarted each time. the dealership replaced the ignition system, checked computer codes, and evaluated wiring harness, but the problem persisted.*ak

we have a 2005 chrysler pacifica. that keeps cutting off. the first time it happen i thought well maybe it was something i did. the second time was when i was turning onto a 2 lane road come home late. the car just turned completely off. no warning at all. thankfully the car swerved and missed me and my kids. i then took it toallen samuel's alliance. i told them what was happening and also told them my left light keeps having a short in it. and at times cuts off. the dealer called me back and advised that the light had a defect to it and that for the engine failure it was due to my throttle needing to be cleaned. that was not covered under warranty and had to pay $300 to get that cleaned. i then was called back several hours later and was told that the throttle had been clean but it they test drove it and it seemed like something else was going on. they asked if i would let them keep it until the morning so that they can have there tech look at it again in the morning. i said okay although at this point it was going on the 4th day with out having a replacement vehicle. i was called the next day and was told it was the rear motor mount that need to be replaced. and that was covered however i need to pay my deductible. we went ahead and had them fix the problem . this was at the end of july. it is now september and my 2005 chrysler pacifica is in the shop again .because as i was driving it staled on me again... took it back to the shop and on my way there it staled again. all of sudden my 2005 chrysler pacifica stared making this loud noise when i would accelerated and or turn left........ when we got to the dealer they advise again that now another motor mount has broke... my car has been there a week. and i have not received a loaner car because the warranty company is saying that they will not replace it my 2005 chrysler only has 39,926 ....and the dealership is saying that they will help us out with payment plans the repair ...

Dt: the contact stated turning left into a drive or a private lot that has an incline the vehicle stalls. the vehicle restarts each time. the dealership installed a co-pilot and determined the fuel pump was losing power. the fuel pump was replaced. the problem continued and the dealership was unable to determine the problem.*ak the left turn signal failed, the abs light illuminated, which resulted in the replacement of the wheel speed sensor, the left real tail light and battery were replaced. updated 08/14/06. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle stalled without warning while turning at various speeds on three occasions. the vehicle was maneuvered off the road and restarted. twice the dealer determined the problem was due to an electrical system malfunction and attempted a repair without success.

Vehicle shut off during left turn in busy intersection and narrowly avoided accident. dealer notified right away and appointment made. reluctant to even drive to dealer because of safety issue. *nm

We had been traveling at a speed of 55 mph on a 2 lane highway. my husband slowed the car to make a left hand turn. the car was going 20 miles per hour when it stalled completely. we lost power steering, brakes and all ability to control the vehicle. luckily my husband reacted quickly and forcefully enough to avoid hitting an oncoming car. the car was taken to the dealership and the problem was unable to be reproduced. returned home the the car and it happened again. i even offered to take the service manager with me to the location where the incident occurred. he refused. nothing more was addressed by the dealership. *nm

My 2005 chrysler pacifica touring has intermittent stalling problems. my car stalls for no apparent reason while the car is in operation. when this happens, i have no breaks. the car starts up right away. this has happened three times now. *nm

During the short time i have owned my pacifica it has stalled on numerous occasions without warning while i am in the middle of driving. there is no consistency to the occurrences either - once while making a slow, sharp left turn while turning around a cul-de-sac, another time while making a slow, sharp right turn into a parking spot, also while sitting idle in a parking lot...the list goes on and on. i bought this vehicle specifically for its safety standards, but it defeats the purpose to buy a "safer" car when it puts you in a dangerous and potentially deadly situation without warning while you are driving at any given moment. i am a realtor and drive clients around all the time - endangering them as well as myself is a huge liability i don't care to take, as i'm sure chrysler does not either. when i have brought the vehicle in for repair, they cannot reproduce the problem & say it does not give an error code on their computer readout - therefore according to the dealership the problem is not fixable until it can be reproduced while in their hands & hooked up to a machine - highly unlikely. they say that it could be caused by a million different things, they wouldn't know where to start, so therefore they will do nothing until it is a chronic problem. this is not an acceptable answer to me. *jb

When making a left hand turn, my vehicle lost all power. the engine, power steering, and power brakes failed. this has happened several other times. i have taken the vehicle to my chrysler dealer twice for this problem. each time, they were unable to duplicate the problem. the second time my vehicle was at the dealer, they reprogrammed the engine controller. however, this has not solved the problem. i sent a certified letter to chrysler and the nhtsa on 11/12/05. it was received by chrysler on 11/15/05. chrylser did not respond to my letter. chrysler has never responded to my concerns. this defect has the possibility of causing a collision resulting in death or serious bodily injury.*jb

My 2005 chrysler pacifica has stalled on me on two occasions. i was making a sharp left on both occasions. i took the vehicle into the dealer and they could not reproduce the stalling and commented that they have not information from chrysler that there is a problem. you can type pacifica and stalling and find numerous pacifica owners with the exact same problem. since chrysler will not take responsibility, i am asking you to address this issue. this is very dangerous and potentially life threatening. *jb

2005 pacifica touring was leased in july 2005. since then, the upgraded infinity sound system has required repair twice and regularly makes a loud popping sound. the abs warning light came on signaling a failure in the anti-lock brake system march 2006. i scheduled an appointment for march 30, 2006 to repair the abs system and on my way to work, i needed to turn left, put my foot on the brake, and the car suddenly sped up instead of slowing down. a few weeks prior, we slowed down to make another left turn and the vehicle stalled and shut off completely. i had leased the pacifica for 36 months, and last week when the abs system failed and my car sped up while braking, i took it back to the dealership and demanded that they get me out of that vehicle. i was able to terminate my lease and purchase a jeep vehicle (the dealership sells jeep) because after i read dozens of consumer complaints, reviews from nhtsa and consumer affairs about the safety issues of this vehicle, i couldn't, in good faith, put myself or my child in that vehicle ever again. not only would driving the pacifica put our lives at risk, but that of others. i could not live with myself if i knowingly operated a hazardous vehicle and hurt someone as a result. push for a replacement. you'll get one!*jb

2005 chrysler pacifica- the biggest problem "engine stalling while driving," leaving me unable to control the car! no breaks, and no steering! there are also problems with the radio, comes on and off all by it's self, and door locks some times work and other times do not. *nm

'05 chrysler pacifica engine stalled when making a hard turn into a parking space. restarted normally, no warning lights or diagnostics. *nm

My wife and i leased a 2005 chrysler pacifica in april. the car stalls for no apparent reason. the first time this occurred was when my wife was driving with our 3 small children. the car stalled and all power was lost. it was raining that day. i drove the car 12/27/05 and the car stalled on me going down a very steep incline. it just so happens that it was raining that day too. i almost hit a utility poll as i lost my steering. i had to really pull on the wheel and pump the brakes to pull off the side of the road safely. i turned the ignition off and restarted the car. the car was brought back to the dealer of origin twice and we were told that they connected the cars computer to a diagnostic machine that informs the dealer if the car has a problem, but both times the dealer couldn't find a problem. at this point i'm very concerned about this issue as i experienced a situation that could have resulted in serious injury to me or any other motor vehicle operator that i could have collided with. i'm placing everyone on notice of this major problem in hopes that someone will do something to correct it before a family member, perhaps yours, doesn't come home one day because a pacifica stalled and rammed the car in which your loved one was an occupant. the first time this occurred the car had 5000 miles registered and the second time it had approximately 10,000. *nm

Intermittently, all electrical in vehicle fails. unable to start, no power, vehicle is dead. then suddenly, vehicle is able to start and run normally. i believe that it may have something to do with remote start system. *nm

The automatic lift gate motor started an electrical spark in the rear of the vehicle. the vehicle was not running at the time. within minutes the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames. the vehicle was declared a total loss. there were no signs of any potential failure leading up to the fire. *jb

Car burst into fire, after shut down, causing the loss of two automobiles and home. origin of fire was determined to be a 2005 chrysler pacific that had just recently been serviced for a head light wiring recall. *nm

I was making a left hand turn across 2 lanes of traffic when my engine stopped, power steering stopped, and the oil light came on. i immediately contacted the dealer. they were unable to duplicate the problem and told me to come back when the problem was more persistent. i have two children 2 and under and taking the chance that we will be in a collision when the engine and power steering fail is not an option. *jb

When turning corners my 2005 pacifica will occasionally stall causing the steering wheel to lock and all systems to fail. i have had the car towed to the dealership 3 times and they were unable to locate any problem. the 1st time, they didn't find a problem in the computer system. the 2nd time, they found a problem in the fuel pump. they replaced the fuel pump. the 3rd time, they told us they could not determine what the problem was nor could they replicate the stall. my wife drives this car to school everyday with my 2 kids. she narrowly avoided a serious accident when the car stalled this last time. i will be filing for the sc lemon law. *jb

My 2005 crhysler pacifica is having big safety hazard problems when i completely turn the steering wheel to the left at a certain speed the car shuts off. that has happened 6 times so far. when i take it to the dealer they say they can't find anything wrong. this is a deadly safety hazard. *jb

2005 chrysler pacifica stalls and also puts itself into neutral while driving or after stopping and starting again. i brought it to the dealer who said they could not find a problem. this afternoon on my way home from work on the highway it went into neutral again (not the shift itself but the engine revved up and then jumped or should i say banged back into the correct gear). then later in the evening i had a problem starting it on my way to my daughters soccer game. it also acted like it wanted to stall the whole way there and the same thing happened when we went to leave the game 1 hour later. this is extremely dangerous not only for me but also for my 7 year old and 6 month old driving with me 90% of the time. *jb

Since of october of 2005 my chrysler pacifica 2005 touring has stalled numerous times. one particular incident i remember is when i was make a permissible u-turn and the vehicle stalled. fortunately for me there was not on-coming traffic and i placed the vehicle in park and restarted the ignition. the stall issues complete power failure in the vehicle. the engine is very loud at low speeds and idles. currently the fuel gauge is reading incorrectly. according to epa estimates miles on a tank is 393 miles, the gauge reads 301-312. also, the vehicle around november started to experience difficult cold starts. initially i attributed that to cold weather, however the problem has become persistent. the was an accident in january 2006 with my wife at the wheel but i has yet to be determined if it was due to vehicular or driver error. while i am not a professional auto mechanic or ase certified, my opinion is that this is an issue with the vehicles intake and possibly a misfire of the pistons. i have submitted the vehicle to a chrysler facility for

Stalls when making left turn. have taken to the chrysler dealership. unable to replicate the problem nor find a computer error code. nothing has been done to fix the problem which persists. *jb

I am having occasional stalling problems when maneuvering my chrysler pacifica '05 at slow speeds. the car simply stalls, causing me to lose all power steering and braking abilities. i was nearly rear-ended on one occasion. with 2,500 miles on the car, it is now in the shop for the fourth time. the idle air control motor was replaced and that did not correct the problem. i am currently waiting for a new set of fuel pumps (recommended by chrysler engineering), but after reading many forums on sites like www.ezboard.com and www.edmunds.com, i am less than hopeful of chrysler finding a solution and will be pursing the lemon law if they can not remedy the problem this last time. i will not drive an unsafe vehicle and chrysler is not acknowledging the problem at all, despite the many complaints i see online daily. *jb

This is the 3rd incident in which while driving the car power has been lost to my 2005 paciifica. in all instances the dash would go out and the engine would not rev and the oil light would come on. this last time on 09/07/05 the engine lost power as well. a little tough to swallow when it is your wife and 3 year old in the car. has been to the dealer for all three problems and no resolution as well as no registration of problems in the computer. my issue has not been resolved and i pursuing ohio lemon law of serious injury or death could occur. *nm

Dt: on 8-6-05, there was an electrical problem. there was a fuse in the incorrect spot. the dealership fixed the fuse problem. on 8-12-05 the steering wheel froze and the vehicle turned off. the consumer was in traffic when this occurred, but there was no accident. he was able to get it to start back and drove it home. he had it towed to the dealer, and they could not find the problem. the consumer got the vehicle back from the dealership and he has not driven it since. he does not feel that the vehicle is safe to drive. *ak

Dt: 2005 chrysler pacifica. the caller was the father of the driver. caller stated this vehicle was part of a fleet. the vehicle quit running during a left hand turn and it went into an electronic lock mode. dealership looked at vehicle and they were unable to duplicate the problem. this vehicle stalled once. other vehicles in fleet had the same problem. quit at highway speed on the interstate. the company did not know that the father of the driver was filing a complaint. when trying to lock the car with the remote it would not lock. when starting the vehicle, the dash board was locked. after about 20-30 minutes the vehicle seemed to reset and worked normally. the vehicle was taken to the dealership and they could not duplicate the problem. the manufacturer suggested they reprogram the vehicle and this problem would not happen again. *ak *nm

I bought a 2005 chrysler pacific on july 18, and drove it home from the dealer. the next day, with 17 miles on it i drove it to work, a distance of approximately 72 miles. returning home on the highway, i slowed from 65 mph (using cruise control) to make a left turn onto the turnpike entrance. the car oil light came on and the car cut off or stalled. i had difficulty contollling it to a safe place as the highway i was exiting from (hwy 82 from tahlequah to 412) has no shoulder. iimmediately tried to restart it but it wouldn't do anything, no clicks, noise, anything. i walked about 1/5 of a mile to a convenience store to call someone. after 15 minutes i returned to the vehicle and it started up. i called the dealer and they told me to bring it in. the next day (today) they called and said they "had found a loose wire near the starter" that must have caused the problem. this sounds completely wrong to me. why would the car stall and cut off while driving? i have no confidence in the vehicle, but the dealer says they have never heard of the problem.

? battery leaking? i have red fluid dripping from under my front right side of the car (looking at it), under where the battery / battery caseing is. it was noticed, as we pulled out of the garage and found the red spots under the front where the car was parked. we popped the hood, the same looking red fluid is all over the battery, and looks to be arouund the casing of the battery as well. not 100% sure, but is has ruined our holiday, as the car now sits until we can get this back to the dealership, yet again (5th time ) in 5 weeks to be repaired. i took photos of this to keep as a visual document as well, as we have had our car in the shop every week, at least 1 - 3 days since we got the car on 5/23/05.

June 26, 2005, my husband and i purhased a new chrysler 2005 pacifica touring with 31 miles on it. june 28, 2005 the engine stalled after making a left hand turn across three lanes of traffice and then a quick right turn into the parking lot of my employer. i called and spoke with the salesman who advised that there is no reason for the vehicle to stall and that if it stalled again to call him and he would make arrangements to have the service department look at it. june 30, 2005 the engine stalled again after turning left across three lanes of traffice and making a quick right into my employer's parking lot. i again called the salesman and he made arrangements for the service department to look at it the next day, july 1, 2005. july 1, 2005 the service department advised that they could not find an error log entry, they could not recreate the problem, they had me drive the car in an attempt to recreate the problem and therefore there was nothing they could do other than to document the problem. my husband and i selected this vehicle for safety reasons -- it has a five star crash worthiness rating, however, now we are extremely concerned about our and our small children's safety. a new vehicle with an unpredictable stalling problem greatly increases the risk of a crash resulting in injuries and/or death of its occupants. this has us very worried!

My car stalled when i turned left going at 25 miles per hour, as resulted the car behind me also turning left hit my rear bumper with light damage to it.no injured, but it could had been worst if was driving on a highway.

Driving along rural road at 35 to 40 mph, 2005 chrysler pacifica stalled going around a bend. car was maneuvered to side of road and restarted. chrysler dealer claims they cannot fix the problem since the problem cannot be reproduced. 2004 pacificas were recalled with same problem. several complaints have been filed wtih nhtsa with 2005 pacificas with the exact same problem. chrysler corp. claims they have never heard of the problem with the 2005 model even though 2 complaints have filed with nhtsa and both complaintants stated that they had been to their chrysler dealer for service.

While driving at medium speeds the car stalls losing all electrical and engine components. while driving there is no warning of the stall, car drives fine and all of the sudden no power, no brakes, no engine. the car stalls when turning, a few times turning left while going through an intersection coming inches away from being hit by other vehicles while the wife and 2 kids are in the car. other instances on exit ramps while turning coming inches away from the guardrail and being hit by cars following. taken to the dealer 4 times, same response, no service codes, can't replicate problem. i was told from 2 dealers, don't bring the car back with this problem, we can't fix it or replicate it. this car is a hazard! *jb

Below, please find an excerpt of a copy of a letter send to the dealer and the ceo: "5/31/2005 - to: general manager, lake wylie chrysler, 800 gold hill rd., fort mill, sc 29715 - re: chrysler pacifica ?limited? 2005 with currently ~ 6500 miles - vin # [xxx] dear madam or sir: i have had numerous problems with this car for which i had visited you service department of lake wylie chrysler and find myself without assistance. the main concern is that the car stalled on me twice and once while my son was driving while i was in the passenger seat. there was no precursor that we can identify, that would have caused this to happen. all three times, it happened when driving slow (10 ? 20 mph) in our neighborhood street. all three times at the same spot, which is a sharp left immediately followed by a sharp right. the engine stalled just at the mid point going into the right curve. power loss for steering and brakes is life endangering, if it were to happen at higher speeds. even in these circumstances, with our neighbors walking dogs, the loss of those systems may trigger a fatal accident! twice chrysler checked for error codes and could find none. the first time the service representative said that i should never run the tank down below 1/4, something i think is non-persuasive. especially after the third time, the tank was full. i do understand the chrysler dealer?s problem, in that they only go by the reported (and here supposedly missing) error code. however, i am not dreaming and as an engineer myself and having studies physics (in germany), i know that you can only report what you look for. this problem may just evade those sensors. in any case, this problem is serious and needs attention! ..." ... something i do not get from the dealer. *js information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Vehicle had been in to chrysler dealer several times during may for the check engine light (emition controll issues) on the day of this incident i had just picked it up from the dealership. it had been repaired due to it leaking oil. the oil leak was due to the technician accidentally tightening the valve cover down on a wire during its last time in for repairs. i had driven about ten miles from the dealership when i pulled into a gas station to get a drink. when i exited the gas station maybe three minutes later i saw my car had flames coming out from under the hood. i was able to put it out using the gas stations portable fire extinguisher but there had been damage done as several parts under the hood had melted. no one was injured thankfully but if i had not stopped for a drink i would have never been able to put the fire out. milage was 5646 the vehicle was not running while parked at the gas station. i was advised that the fire was due to a blower fan module short circiuting.

I have had multiple problems with this vehicle since its purchase date. 1/12/05- initially vehicle stalled while driving ~10 mph after slight right curve. no problem found. 6/9/05- the 2nd time it occurred was on a hill , coming to a stop to turn right. no problem found. 7/22/05- during left turn at an intersection, straightening wheel to right stalled. after speaking with chrysler technician, fuel tank believed to have problem, replaced fuel pump. 2/27/06- stalled again- no problem found 9/26/06- sensor failure occurred on abs and traction control. 12/12/06- vehicle lost all front lights in dash and wipers. -replaced body control computer. 1/16/07 vehicle stalled while driving on state route at 45 mph- no problem found. *nm
