My husband was driving and suddenly the car started smoking we pulled over, the fire fighters were called. they had to break the dashboard in order to stop the fire. they spray the car with water inside and out. car was total. the fire fighters thought that it was possibly the wire that stared the fire. radio and light on dashboard did not work in one point, it started working again by itself. *tr

I have recently made a complaint to chrysler about a 2004 pacifica that i bought about 4mos ago. i know that my car may be out of "dealer warranties", but when there are things going on with your vehicle that's under recall, something should be done about before someone is injured or even killed. my gas pedal sticks, my car has stalled off on several occasions while turning in the middle of an intersection, and my fuel system was not holding or distributing fuel properly and my motor mounts are broken! i can't afford to pay for my car monthly, and pay for repairs that are almost going on with all 2004 pacificas'. i park my car only to use one vehicle that 2 adults and a17 and18yr have to travel with when 3 of the 4 of these persons work. life is hard and its not fair that the "big companies" continue to get away with it and the hard working person is falling deeper and deeper into a do it the best way you can situation. problems with the fuel system have supposedly been fixed and they are included in a recall that doesn't include my vin but my make and model and year! come on america!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *tr
At any given time when pressing on the accelerator, the accelerator locks up and does not depress. after several attempts it releases and lurches forward. this has been going on for at least 6 months now. it happens about 4 or 5 times per week. no repairs done to date. vehicle should be recalled for this defect. *tr
The events leasing up to the defect were erratic gas gauge readings, from 1/2 tank to empty immediately, then sometimes back to half. the car has stalled on a couple of occasions while driving.being told by dealer that it needs parts that have nothing to do with gas gauge readings ie: throttle body cleaning, map sensor, fuel filler tube. this is an extremely dangerous situation. i have an extended warranty on the vehicle however the parts that im being told are needed are not under warranty. however upon reading all of the discussion boards and looking at former recalls the parts that are being recommended to replace to fix the problem are under my warranty. *tr
Fire in the engine compartment that ended up in a total loss of the vehicle. auto adjuster notified the fuel line caused the fire. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chrysler pacifica. while driving approximately 15 mph, the contact's fuel tank was punctured by road debris. in the presence of an ignition source, a fire could have resulted. he took the vehicle to a local repair shop and the technician stated that because the component was manufactured out of insufficient materials, it easily failed. the fuel tank was replaced. the vin was unknown. the failure and current mileages were 53,000.
Driving on the road doing about 35 mph and i ran over a piece of metal with my tire. by the time i got home i smelled gas, looked under my car, and the gas was gushing out of my tank under the car. *tr
2004 chrysler pacifica appears to have a flaw in the fuel tank. consumer states that while driving at highway speed the vehicle shut down completely. *nj the consumer stated a few weeks prior he/she were having problems with the gas gauge. once the gauge was down to a half a tank, the needle would fluctuate and the electronic gauge would suddenly drop 20 miles to empty. at one point the engine light illuminated. the mechanic turned the engine light off, however a couple of weeks later, the light illuminated again. the mechanic explained that even though there was fuel in one side of the tank, it was not pumping to where it needed to be in order for the vehicle to continue running. the mechanic replaced the side fuel module on both sides, the fuel module and fuel pump module. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chrysler pacifica. when the contact starts the vehicle, the fuel gauge dial fluctuates up and down at random. the fuel light illuminates and a sound is heard as well. the dealer stated that the fuel gauge pedometer failed. the contact was informed that there were no recalls, but learned of a technical service bulletin. he believes that the vehicle should be under a recall for this failure. the dealer refused to repair the vehicle; therefore, the contact was responsible for the repair cost. the failure mileage was 68,729. updated 6/9/08 *cn
My car has completely shut off on me on 4 different occasions. the first time the dealership said it was a fuel line problem and cleaned the fuel line system. the second time the problem happened, leaving me stranded on the side of the road again, the dealership changed a sensor. the 3rd time, same scenario, the dealership told me that they 2nd occasion the "computer" gave them a fault, but the first time it didn't so they fixed what they "thought" the problem could be. on the 3rd occasion, they told me that when the 2nd event happened it gave them a fault that could have meant that one of two sensors had gone bad. they said that if the car was under warranty they would have just replaced both sensors. since the car was out of warranty, they just replaced the one "that usually goes bad." so on my 3rd trip to the dealership, they replaced the second sensor and of course i had to pay for the labor again. the parts themselves cost $20 each and if asked the first time if i wanted to replace both sensors like they would for a warranty repair, i would certainly had agreed. my 4th event happened 4 weeks ago. my car is still at dealership i type this. they say they have no idea what is wrong with the car, but that they can tear the car apart and check out the wiring and if that's the problem, it will cost $6000 to fix. just to diagnosis the problem i have to pay a minimum of $240 which they tell me may not diagnosis the problem at all. i feel that this vehicle is a huge safety hazard. it only has 30,000 miles on it and has given me nothing but trouble since i purchased it as the second owner on february 28, 2007. the car just shuts off while driving each time leaving me stranded with my 2 young children where ever we are. each time i have had to wait for a tow truck to arrive to take us to safety. i hope that others have this same complaint and that chrysler will do something to make this right. *tr
I left home yesterday with 5 children in the car with me to take my daughter to her ballet and music lessons. everything was fine when we left and i don't remember anything significant happening on the drive. after returning home, my oldest daughter went to the garage to get something out of the car. she came back in and told me the garage smelled of gasoline. i went out to find a huge puddle of gas under the car and the plastic (of all things) coupling between the tank and the line leaking profusely. we took the car in for repairs this morning and found that we are going to have to replace the entire tank as it is all made as one piece. the tank alone is $500.00. that isn't including tax or labor. i am also with out a car for the next 3 days. thankfully no one was hurt, but when i think of what could have happened to my children... not to mention had my daughter not found the leak and we had let it leak a full tank of gas out into the garage under where my children sleep! why did they make that thing out of plastic and not protect it from debris on the road?? *jb
While driving the fuel gauge suddenly dropped from 1/2 tank to empty and the fuel alarm sounded. i was able to immediately stop and refuel while only being able to fill about 1/2 a tank full. this happened on three days will on vacation traveling. i called my home purchase dealer after the second event to discuss the problem and was advised to keep the fuel above 1/4 tank and bring to the shop on return from vacation. upon inspection, i was advised that not one but both fuel pumps had 2 different error codes. i was aware of the fuel pump problem and recall and advised, only on asking, that the vin number of my vehicle was not included in the recall list and i was 4,000 miles beyond warranty. the full repair was on me for $600+ dollars. it is obvious that from other postings of this problem that this is a manufacturer defect and my vin number should have been covered. i could not get satisfaction from the dealer or chyrsler. after purchasing chrysler for the last 3 new vehicle purchases i am not inclined for chrysler to be selected for my next new vehicle purchase.*ak
A hole in the gas tank. normal driving conditions, no off road use. unable to drive until fixed. dealer charged $70 to look at the problem. dealer quoted $958 fuel tank replacement. *nm
We have a 2004 chrysler pacifica manufactured on 10/31/03. in november 2006 @ 49k miles, we began to encounter problems with the fuel level indicator. even though the tank was full it will drop to empty and indicate low fuel. it then it will bounce back to half full or full. then drop again to low fuel. it may do this 10 times during a short cross town trip. we took in back to dealer and was told it was a bad fuel control module and that chrysler had just issued a recall (f44) for this very reason, but that my vin number was not included in the recall. i called chrysler to see why it was not covered, but they said since my vin number was not included that my repair would not be covered under the recall. i would like to make a complaint that the chrysler recall f44 did not include all the effected cars, since my vehicle is experiencing the same failure as those cars identified in the recall. *nm
Tl* - the contact has a 2004 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the clock display turns off, the gas gauge needle floats up and down, and electrical equipment would go dim. the contact stated that the gas gauge registers the fuel as low when the gas tank is almost full and that a rear interior light goes on. also, the dvd player switches songs as if it were searching for radio stations. the child safety locks for her windows only work occasionally. the heater doesn't always turn on, but when it does it cannot be adjusted unless the power to the vehicle is turned off. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled twice while she was driving 55 mph with an odometer reading of 58000 miles. during one of the stalling incidents she was trying to change lanes, but the car would not accelerate, so she pulled over onto the median where the car turned off. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and resume driving. *nm
04 chrysler pacifica fails to start. nothing happens or briefly start & die out. starts after pumping the gas pedal. dealers service dept can't duplicate starting problem therefore cannot fix. *jb
2004 chrysler pacifica--repeated service issues including gas tank, gas cap/vapor lock, electrical. *nm
Driving road speed, the 2004 pacifica with gauge reading "150 miles to empty" stalls and the gauge read "38 miles to empty". cannot restart but upon adding 2.5 gal of gas, started again. stalling occurred at least 5x within a week. dealer installed solenoid 8059043 and body control module (bcm) but did not correct the problem. *jb
Dt*: the contact stated that the first experience with the vehicle stalling occurred while the vehicle was under warranty. the dealer replaced the fuel module and reprogrammed the engine, which corrected the problem for a while. the vehicle stalling also occurred while cruising. the engine light illuminated prior to the stallings. during one incident, the vehicle completely stalled on the highway traveling 65 mph. the engine would not restart nor would the transmission reengaged. the vehicle was taken to the dealers who determined that there was a tsb regarding the fuel gauge. two modules were replaced in the fuel tank. the manufacturer informed the dealers that the modules replaced was for another vehicle type but was okay to use on the vehicle to which the part was installed. after the replacement part, the engine stalling continued while cruising and the fuel gauge would drop down to low fuel. the vehicle was taken back to the dealers who replaced fuel pump module however the problem persists.
While vacationing in north carolina my fuel gauge would read full then 2 hours later empty then would go to half tank then while on the highway with my 5 year old son i ran out of gas(according to the gauge) when i finally made it to a gas station my 24 gallon tank only wanted to take 7 gallons and the gauge said full. it is now scheduled to go in for a diagnostic test on the 21st of this month when speaking with the dealership in which the vehicle was bought they tried to tell me that there were no open recalls. i have since found out different while researching online. *nm
This vehicle has had the siphoning hoses to the gas tank replaced three times. which all three failed all three times. the fuel pump has been changed. the whole fuel tank has been replaced. the gas gauge fluctuates from half tank to empty. the check engine light comes on every week. after resetting by the serviceman it comes back on with in a week. all of these safety defects have been repaired however it remains doing all of the above leaving this vehicle to be very unsafe. please note this so that any others may have this to refer to. *tr
On the way home the other night, something on road put a hole in my gas tank of my 2004 chrysler pacifica. getting it replaced is about a $750 job. my husband and i have no idea what we hit so must have not been something large, and we did not go over any railroad tracks either. from research on the internet, i feel this falls under the category that is being investigated right now for chrysler pacifica's where road debris is putting holes in the gas tank. not only do i have to replace the gas tank, i lost over 21 gallons of gas too. *nm
Driving with my family my car ran over a metal shaft in the road. the shaft pierced the gas tank and stayed embedded in the tank. gas leaked causing us to evacuate the car. we could not drive as it was to unsafe. the car had to be towed to a garage for replacement of the cars fuel tank. *nm
When my chrysler pacifica gets to 1/2 tank of gas, the car starts to stall. especially when slowing down or turning a curve. i've taken it to the dealership twice (each time i was told that they could not replicate the problem, but i was out of gas -- each time i had 1/2 tank of gas -- when i turned a curve, it showed empty). i was told on the second trip to the dealership to document my mileage, how many gallons of gas i put into the tank, etc.). i filled up on tuesday, september 13, 2005. today, sunday, september 18, 2005, i reached 1/2 tank of gas. i have traveled approximately 242 miles. my car is stalling again. is there a fix for this problem. *nm
We have a 2004 chrysler pacifica purchased on a lease in 2004. in june we began to encounter problems with the fuel level indicator. even though the tank was full it would drop to empty and indicate low fuel. it then would bounce back to half full or full. then drop again to low fuel. we took in back to dealer and was told it was a defect in the fuel tank float and the entire tank would require replacing. since it was not a drive train problem it was not under warranty. we paid $750.00 to replace the fuel tanks and float. 3 months later it happened again, this time the dealer replaced at no cost, but it would appear the pacifica may have defects, which should have been made by the manufacturer. we were told by the dealer that this problem could cause engine failure while driving. *nm
After having my pacifica for 1.5 years and experiencing 19 problems (54 days in the shop!); 2-3 of which are recurring (i.e. the engine light coming on), even the service department at my dealership stated that they would stand behind my efforts to get a vehicle replacement! we are completely happy with the dealership's service as they have stood behind this "lemon" better than the manufacturer appears to be able to. after talking with the chrysler representative, mr. craig kishner, i was informed that the "best" chrysler could do was to refund my extended warranty price. i pushed back and my boyfriend also called to announce our dismay at the manner in which we are being treated after being tremendously patient for 1.5 years to see if this "lemon" could be repaired to a reasonable level of usability. mr kishner then came back with the answer that chrysler would only "step up" for the previously laughable answer. we had hoped for a laudable answer. i find it difficult to believe that a manufacturer, with the questionable track record of chrysler, would want to create more adverse publicity than they already have chalked up over the course of their existence. nonetheless, we will pursue this through the courts and undoubtedly tell all of our friends and business colleauges of this horrific experience. *ak
I have talked to the dealership about the gas mileage that my vehicle is getting. it is supposed to get 17 in town and 24 highway. i am only getting 12.8 in town and 13 on the highway. they tell me to wait until it gets to 5,000 miles and it will get better. well, i'm at 4,660 and it is still bad!! definitely not the mileage posted on the dealership papers in the window of my car when i purchased it 5 months age. they wouldn't even write it up for the tech's to look at while it was there for battery problems. i'm taking it in again. *jb
While driving vehicle stalled. consumer managed to restart the vehicle. recall 03v471000 was issued, but dealerships had no parts for repair. *ak
Consumer received recall 03v471000 regarding fuel line leakage. consumer spoke with manufacturer on three occasions about this particular recall. manufacturer repeatedly informed the consumer that the recall did not exist.*ak
I have a 2004 chrysler pacifica awd, currently has 50,000 miles. we have had problems since we drove it off the lot. time after time we were told there were no codes signifying any problems, and they could never duplicate the noises we were experiencing. climate control screen went out, this was replaced. message display went out, unable to see safety warnings, compass, menu display stalling when turning at slow speeds popping and clunking noises when turning slowly load clanging noise when shifting from park to reverse, sounds like we ran over a large metal object. leaks on driver side when raining warped rotors at 35,000 miles fuel gauge needle will plunge from f to e when there is a least half tank of gas. i have taken the car in on numerous occasions, they can never duplicate the problem noises to diagnose or fix. *nm
