We have classified the 105 complaints from 2012 Chrysler 200 about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
There was a recall on my vehicle i took it to the dealership in harrisonburg va to be repaired. they only fixed the active head restraints. my car failed a state inspection due to my airbag light illuminating. i have read that "certain" chrysler 200's 2012 they are to reprogram the tipm then replace the occupant restraint module if needed. they refused to replace this gave me an estimate of $400. i called chrysler and they also said my car was not recalled based on the vin and my issue. i am a single mother with two kids my car has 67,000 miles on it has never been wrecked or damaged and i believe chrysler should replace this. my car is only 4 years old an airbag should not become defective in 4 years. this exact issue is what other 2012 chrysler 200s have also. i am still unable to have my car pass a state inspection and i also informed chrysler that when passengers ride in that seat they are putting lives at risk by not acting quickly. it is dangerous and chrysler should recall all 2012 200's. it hey informed me the problem is in the dash i don't even feel safe driving my car what if my air bags don't deploy? i will live with that the rest of my life and chrysler should be held accountable for negligence. just because my vin number doesn't match at this time or the time frame they claim the defects were installed doesn't mean the part they installed isn't defective. i hope you all take this matter very seriously. this is a safety issue that could take or save lives.
Takata recall - i never received any information regarding this recall. i am just now (july 2016) experiencing the airbag warning light coming on and a warning tone being emitted randomly while i'm in motion. i'm interested to know if i can still take my car to the dealership to have it worked on under n38 13v282?
While on the freeway in the rain, the windshield wipers stop in motion and stay in upward position against the windshield. freeze up of wipers is intermittent. wipers do not always respond to off position.

Takata recall: there is a problem with the electronic throttle control light that causes the car to decelerate randomly, in combination with a ticking sound that comes from the air bag area of the glove box that is exacerbated by the ac and the heat being turned on. i feel that the car is unsafe to drive, although it says there is no open recall on these components. this happened several times to me on the expressway today.

I am an owner of a 2012 chrysler 200 and on feb. 1st while sitting in my driveway a fire started in the internal. i called chrysler and i received a letter that they will not take responsibility for any manufacturing or assembly error. a week prior before the car caught on fire the heat would only work on the driver side. this vehicle is not safe and it is very disturbing that a company like chrysler would not take responsibility for an unsafe vehicle.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. the contact stated that the vent control failed to release heat from the vent on the front passenger side. the failure prevented the windows from defrosting in inclement weather. the vehicle was taken to yark chrysler jeep dodge ram (6019 central ave, toledo, oh 43615, (419) 877-7712) to be diagnosed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin and failure mileage were not available.
I own a 2012 chrysler 200, the engine stops/fails about every two months while braking or while stopped. this is dangerous as it can stop anywhere and they might rear end the car or something. i have taken my car to the chrysler dealership 4 different times with the same issue, the first time they changed the pcm. after about 2 months the car's engine stopped while braking or while at a stoplight. the 2nd and 3rd time i took the car they did not find anything wrong with the car and gave it to me after a couple of days. the 4th time when i took the car they said that it was the battery and they put in a new battery. well about 2 days ago the car stopped again while at a stoplight. i have not taken the car to the dealership as they never find anything wrong with the vehicle. i am tired of them not finding what is wrong with the car. i believe that i speak for many chrysler 200 owners when i say that an investigation needs to be done for the whole chrysler group, especially to the 200, which have many complaints online and none one seems to find the solution. please investigate this for the safety of the drivers. i am so sick and tired of the mopar mechanics not finding anything. i do not know if the issue is with the pcm, computer, or engine. please investigate.

Randomly shuts down while driving down the road, with no warning
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. while driving approximately 10 mph and activating the right turn signal, the windshield wipers engaged automatically. the failure recurred every time the turn signals were used. in addition, the heater would blow hot air through the driver side vents and cold air through the passenger side vents. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 76,000.
My cars a/c heater blend door actuator has gone out. upon my research i see there are numerous chrysler 200 owners with the same problem. it is my understanding gm recalled the same part from the same manufacturer. shouldn't chrysler recall the part as well? the problem is persistent in the part continually clicks, cold air running through the vents when the heater is on.
Dear sir/ madam: 11-08-15 a fire occurred at my house which was located at [xxx], on the above date, i parked my 2012 chrysler 200 in the garage and went to bed. approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour after retiring, i was awakened by a loud explosion and my neighbors beating on my front door to awaken me and my 21 year old grandson. he also was sleeping in another bedroom. when both of us attempted to escape from the house through the kitchen/garage entrance, we were met my heavy bellowing grey and black smoke that prevented our exit and almost overwhelmed us. several months later, i am yet suffering from the shock and emotional trauma. because of dealing with flashbacks, nightmares, intermittent waves of nervousness, deep sadness, feelings of grief/loss, periodic confusion, digestion issues, and numerous financial concerns, i am in professional counseling. i have been unable to write this letter until now. even now, a friend is assisting me with completing this communication. this is the second contact i have had with your corporation. the first was the morning after the fire, when my son called on my behalf from his cell phone. he was informed that there was no recall of this particular chrysler 200, however there were some known problems with the gas tank and ignition systems that were built between march and november of 2012. please understand. i lost my house, 23 long years' worth of cherished belongings, and the car i recently purchased. i lost everything in the fire. i decided that,i would rather initially contact chrysler directly. my hope is that chrysler will understand the gravity of the situation and do the right thing without going through expensive attorneys. While driving the battery light came on and electrical systems began to fail. radio, abs system, windows and ac all shut off. the car failed to accelerate properly and engine would not shift gears. braking and steering systems became compromised before car completely stalled and coasted to stop on side of road. approximately 2-3 minutes from battery light going on to the car becoming totally nonresponsive. car would not start, unless jumped. required tow. dealership states the issue was an alternator that shorted, and in turn burned out the battery. required the replacement of both the alternator and the battery at a cost of approximately $1100.00 (before negotiated discount of 10%).
Cruise control has a short. if i hit the steering wheel air bag it will eventually turn on the cruise. this happens when the car is in motion and usually when i am traveling on a highway which makes it dangerously distracting. the car only has 13,000 miles on it. the problem has been going on about one year.
While driving, the car began to rapidly lose functionality while warning lights were appearing on the dashboard until it abruptly shut down while driving in traffic. the time from no warning lights to complete loss of functionality was approximately 10-15 seconds. the shut down included an abrupt loss of power steering and braking capabilities while driving on a busy street at night. i was able to quickly compensate for the loss of power steering and braking and stop the vehicle while avoiding a crash, but just barely. thankfully, i broke down next to two police officers who helped push my vehicle onto the side of the road. these officers may be able to attest to the fact that no noises or abnormal operation of the vehicle was apparent before the abrupt shut-off while driving. attempts to restart the vehicle involved no clicking or the engine attempting to turn over. the vehicle is currently being repaired, but the preliminary diagnosis is one of a faulty alternator. i will attempt to retain the faulty alternator from the repair center. i had only started the car 2-3 minutes before the incident and there were no apparent electrical issues (engine struggling to start, lights dimming, etc.) while starting the car or during operation.

Windshield wipers quit working. only wipe on high. took into dealer to repair, they replaced the wiper motor. did not fix problem, they then ran codes to tell me it is the tipm. my extended warranty company said they will not cover, problem still not fixed.
The car has stalled on four different occasions while driving. it stalled three time while driving in traffic. one time it stalled on the highway. the car has turned back on after a couple of tries. a malfunction indicator light comes on after the incident and stays on for a period of time. the light simple goes out without any intervention. everything appears to be running okay and then another incident of stalling occurs. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. the contact stated that when the key was turned over, the lights flickered for the gauges and an abnormal noise emitted from the fuel pump and the vehicle failed to start. the vehicle was towed to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.

There is an awful smell of fumes coming through the airvents inside car. it's so terrible that it takes your breath away. well i found out there is a recall on this because it has something to do with thac 7 heating system. mold and bacteria has set up around the heater core and the antifreeze has started looking like thick glue or something. now my heat does not work correctly. the smell that's coming through the vents, well i had to go to emergency room because i could not breath. the smell settles in my clothes and by me breathing it in, the smell has settled in my nostrils. by the time i get to work all my clothes i have on smells. went to hospital because it has made me so sick, my yes burn from the smell.this is dangerous. the mechanic i saw said the compartment where the antifreeze is needs to be flushed out and thermostat replaced and probably valve gaskets and the heater core may be stop up also since the antifreeze was like glue, the fumes from the vents is bad it can affect your respitory system and your breathing. lake keowee chrysler dodge of senca sc was called about this problem. they said they needed the number from recall. well this license mechanic is going to tell me how to handle this problem. this has affected my health and it also affected my heating system. it will not work. i have to put on face mask so i won't have to smell that awful fume. i already spoken to an attorney about this. *tr
Under normal driving conditions all of a sudden the vehicle accelerates on its own. the engine stalls and loss of steering. the electronic throttle control warning light comes on and blinks, as well as the engine light and the traction control light comes on. acceleration is only at 20% of what it normally is with intermittent thrust of power followed by engine failure. this lasts for several miles then the problem seems to disappear. chrysler has no idea a out this problem with there vehicles and if u take it to an auto repair place. it says the vehicle is fine when they plug it in. i did some research on this to find out what to do and the internet is swamped by people with this car, this same year or around the same year... with the same problem. this vehicle is unsafe. logic suggests that chrysler wont voluntarily recall this vehicle for financial reasons which is understandable but at the same time i don't wanna die because i cant control this car when it has the above mentioned "episode". *tr
Driving car and preparing to stop for a red light the car suddenly stalled..no warning. everything just quit. thankfully i was already coming to s stop and was at a point where pulling off of the road was an option. now today the car will not start. only 58,000 and driven only locally.. results pending on issue. no codes found yet. mechanic states that at first look the car appeared to be out of gas, which is not the case. however it looks like this might be a fuel issue. i have seen recalls around the tipm and fuel sensors and prior years recalls for the car stalling. *tr
While driving, attempted turn was made going approx. 10mph and the vehicle completely shut down without warning lights or anything. once shut down i am able to restart but having this issue remain is frustrating. the vehicle has been taken to the dealership several times and each time no code is found and nothing is able to be done. having this issue can cause serious damage and is extremely dangerous especially since i have children and i fear for our safety. *tr
Brakes rotors bushings engine has whine and what sounds like a miss clicking noise on start up, clicking when turning ignition key withoht starting completely, and clicks when turning key off. salesman says he called chrysler and was told the 200 car is made to veer to the right to stop driver who might accidentally go to sleep from entering oncoming traffic. dealership said call warranty. had this 2012 car a with 46k that was a rental for a few days so far its engine is quite noisy. calling warranty company to make appt to have car checked out. *js
Wipers only work on high. wiper motor shorted to ground causing internal collateral damage to tipm. removed and replaced wiper motor. removed and replaced tipm and updated software. *tr

Purchase new off the chrysler dealer lot april 2012.there are three knobs that control the heating and cooling in the car when the blower is turned to a low setting it will blow hot air regardless of temperature that is selected for example if it is sitting at 66degrees it will blow extremely hot air and only if the blower is set to max will it eventually cool down to the selected temperature. once the cooler temperature is acquired, if the blower is turned down it will eventually go back to blowing only really hot air regardless of temperature setting. *tr

I was driving down a busy street, trying to make a left hand turn through traffic, and my car stalled without no warning and everything was locked including brakes. i took it into chrysler and they couldn't find anything wrong with it because no fault light was coming on. so they took the next step of putting a module on my car for 2 days to see if it happens again, but lucky for me it didn't because the first time was scary enough for me. then when i took it back in they just told me that when my car does that just put it in neutral and restart it. so three weeks later my car did it again but this time i was on a busy freeway going 70 mph, so i tried their suggestion and it did not work, for the second time everything just quit working in my car. so i called them again talked to the manager at chrysler and he said if there is no lights coming on when my car does this he really can't do anything about it. *tr

I have a 2012 chrysler 200 touring v6 bought it brand new. while driving on the highway taking the off ramp i engage my brakes before i get to the traffic light also engaging my turn signal. as soon as the turn signal is engaged all my lights flicker off and on this included the dash lights, stereo and the center console everything except my headlight flicker. on a few occasions the lights have totally went off and would only come back on when the turn signal was disengaged. i had taken the vehicle to a mechanic who tested my battery and alternator also checking all the fuses. he was at a lose to explain why the [xxx] was doing this. i also contact the dealer who sold me the vehicle and gave me the run around stating that they had not heard of any other vehicles doing this and dismissed my worries with saying its is your battery and or alternator. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
I noticed after i purchased my vehicle in 2012, i started having issues with my car in 2013. my car started having heat coming from the bottom of my driver and passenger side. i ignored this issue but then it started happening more often. on my last oil change the dealer didn't fill my overflow for the antifreeze so i had a friend to fill it up. after filling the antifreeze he decided to turn on the engine. what happens next is that the antifreeze began to boil. this should not be happening. i made an appointment at the dealer and took it on yesterday. i was told it was the tipm which was shorted out and that the fan wasn't coming on like it should. the cost of this repair is $1275.00. i believe chrysler is aware of the issues and that they need to reimburse customers for this issue.
While driving 15mph in a 25mph zone due to not being able to see the road on a downgrade i almost hit an animal and coming close to also hitting a low center median being unable to see in front of my vehicle more than 10 feet or less. informed chrysler and as other people stated they want to do an adjustment and diagnosis of problem. i have and drive other vehicles and have not had this issue with anything else just this vehicle there is not enough light and the cutoff is seriously bad. *tr
