Problems with 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Speedometer first showed speed of 60 when sitting still. i turned off the engine, restarting it 3 times and the speedometer reset. but a few days later it once again stuck and i had just started it. this time at 48 at all times whether the engine is on or off, idling of traveling. it continues to be stuck at 48 at all times, never decreasing or increasing.

Driving in city speedomoter quit working properly. dont know what speed is while driving car has 33000 miles, has not been driven in 3 years as it was my fathers and he no longer drives as he is 97 years old

Instrument panel cluster doesn't work and i don't even know my speed

I can't tell if my tank is full or empty

Rpm, gas, and voltage meter are not reading properly at all. everywhere u go everytime u start the truck up it does not read properly.

Car will not accelerate. revs up really high without acceleration.

The speedometer has become unreliable; it sticks / jerks while driving after which it does not display an accurate speed. i've had my speedometer read 30mph while completely stopped. it has a greater tendency to stick around 50-60mph. repeatedly starting the engine, causing the speedometer to go through its reset cycle will move the needle back to 0mph in approximately 5mph increments for every start. this only provides a bit of reliability for short trips.

The speedometer doesnt work.

The airbags will show that they're not enabled even with a passenger sitting in the seat.then it would come on as being on but no passenger in seat. a lot of sensors have popped up in the electrical panel, on top of that the car kinda shut down on me and started going 10 miles per hour, as i was going out in traffic.

The speedometer gets stuck on a speed and the only way to get it back down to 0 is by turning the engine on and off several times. this has happened to me several times in the last few months. from my research on this it appears this is happening to many many people but nothing gets done about it. it seems to me like it should be a recall to get it fixed.

The speedometer in my car started not working a week ago.. it would say i was going 70 and in reality i was only going 55. now it starts out at 110mph when i start driving....making it really difficult to know how fast/slow i am going. i have read many articles of this happening with this make and model of vehicle. *tr

Speedometer stopped working a few times until it completely has gone dead and doesn't work at all. my trailblazer also has stalled if stopped at a red light more than once. *tr

We were driving at about 55 (we don't know exact speed as our control panel is not working) and the steering went out. it was hard pulling to the right and a few times we could not control it and went off the road. we had another incident like that when we were driving in the snow. when we purchased the car we had a fuel issue that covered under a recall.... now our whole panel is out. we don't know the speed we are going, the oil light and engine light are always on. we take care of our car so we know its not low on anything. *tr

Cluster gauges are going out. the speedometer quick working a few years ago and is intermittent at best on a daily basis. it either indicates a lesser or greater speed than actual or just falls to point straight down. i have been using a mounted gps to indicate speed. initial repair cost estimates were $500+ for the parts since they will only replace the entire gauge cluster. with labor, the estimate was in excess of $800. fuel gauge is now inoperative or intermittent. when i fill the tank, the fuel gauge reads way past the full line. having to rely of the fuel to empty and the fuel used computer information along with the trip meter to estimate fuel. received another estimate for a mechanic to pull the gauge cluster and rebuild each individual gauge motor for an estimate of $500. based upon the number similar complaints on this same thing, this appears to be a manufacturing defect that needs to be corrected by gm. *tr

I was driving on the highway when i slowed down & stopped for an accident ahead of me. i did not slam on my brakes and i did not go over any bumps that would jar the vehicle. i was stopped for approximately 20 minutes. when i began accelerating i noticed the speedometer was no longer accurately reading my speed. i was doing around 50 mph, but my speedometer was reading 22 mph. i tried turning the car off once i got home, then restarting it, but it was still reading 22 mph. when i drove it the next day, it started out reading 10 mph, and has varied since then, but still not reading accurately. *tr

I went into town to grab dinner and as i am driving along, my headlights shut off. the only thing that remained on, were the orange turn signal lights. i frantically turned the headlight knob on an off and nothing happened. i was looking for a place to turn off the highway, however it was night time and i had no headlights. i ended up pulling over to the gravel side of the road, and turned the car off. now i am stuck on the side of the highway at night time, with no working headlights. i turned the car off and got out, tapped the headlights and looked for any physical damage and did not find an answer. upon starting the car again, it sounded like someone had turned on a vacuum cleaner. the noise pitched up for about 5 seconds before pitching back down. after re-starting the oil pressure gauge moved from its normal position at "12 o'clock" to an abnormal "6 o'clock". i tried to call onstar for a vehicle diagnostic, however now my radio would not work either. i tried the headlights again, and they still would not turn on. i turned on my high beams, and proceeded back home. while en route my speedometer was reading 10mph over my actual speed. when i pulled into my driveway and turned the car off, the speedometer stayed at 10mph. i find it very hard to believe that all of these things happened all at once as a coincidence. this is a huge safety concern as i lost the ability to see at night, as well as the ability to monitor my speed all while trying to drive. not to mention all of the motorists who were blinded by my high beams on the way back. *tr

Driving on the highway to the shore my speedometer increased to 95 mph. when we parked it was stuck on 10. since then it has happened many times. when i park i have to check what it stops at. sometimes, its 10, 20, 30, etc. i have tried disconnecting the negative battery cable and that helps as a temp fix. my dealer says there is no recall, but i saw online a class action suit against gm, but not for trailblazers. this is a gm issue and i don't have the money to get it fixed. updated 03/11/14

First my rear wiper and rear washer stopped working but when you turn the button it sounds like it wants to go. second my speedometer is all over the board. sometimes it runs low, sometimes it's higher and at times it just won't move. it has also been off the board pointer down at the prnd321. third my oil gauge stopped working.

The engine light constantly comes on even after i had a tune up. i had diagnostics done and there is some type of fuel misfire. two winters straight i have had issues with the power steering lines bursting and replaced 3 times. the speedometer malfunctions, most of the time it just stays at zero. if gm uses a lot of the same parts to make multiple models why has the 2005 trailblazer not been recalled? i was told the gm envoy has the same engine and other inner workings as my trailblazer so why wouldn't their recalls apply to my vehicle especially if i may be having the same issues. *tr

When the steering is turned too far the car automatically and very suddenly shuts off, no matter where we are. seatbelts in the last row of the vehicle don't lock so, our car seats just slide due to never ending seat belt. engine and oil light come on when car is started and will stay on for days as result of gas cap being not screwed on properly. delayed turning reaction with steering wheel, horn got stuck and would not stop sounding so it had to be disabled. *tr

Due to a faulty gas gauge the car engine stopped on a highway three miiles away from fuel with children in the vehicle. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 25 mph, the brakes failed. the failure occurred intermittently for three years. the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 62,000. the window regulator, battery cable, tank level sensor, clutch fan, serpentine belt, tight outer tie rod, hood latch,water pump, were all replaced. also, the rotors were warped, due to rust by climate, the rear brakes pads were worn and had to be replaced. the front rotors were machined. there was an intermittent surge after accelerating from a stop. there was a squealing noise coming from the brakes. the passenger side brake lights were blowing out. the tail light circuit board was replaced. the check engine light illuminated, due to a faulty emission vent valve and hose assembly. the abs was engaging, when coming to a stop. updated 10/01/14

The vehicle presented with error on reading the speed one is traveling at. fuel gauge not working properly and not reading gas correctly. *tr

While driving to work my cruise control shut down and my speedometer stopped working. a couple weeks later the speedometer began working and now it has stopped again and stuck on 55 and doesn't move regardless if the vehicle is on or off. the cruise control won't work. i am very frightened to continue driving without knowing what speed i am driving. i can't afford to keep spending money on this vehicle to repair all the problems it's had. wondering if the speedometer is covered under my 100,000 mile warranty. please help. *tr

Cluster instrument panel failed. rpm odometer doesn't work, speed ranges from 80-off the charts, gas gauge not accurate. apparently big problem w/over 300 complaints yet no recall. firestone just quoted me $700 for a remove and replace instrument cluster gauge. $600 for the gauge itself. i can't afford that. *tr

The speedometer in my vehicle suddenly shows over 120 mph no matter what speed i am traveling. i have found this to be a common complaint. the fuel gauge is also very inaccurate never showing more than 1/4 tank of fuel regardless of how much i put in. *kb

My 2005 trailblazer has begun to have several problems and in speaking to other chevy owners the same problems have been found in other models and years of chevy trucks and suvs. i'm very disappointed to see that chevy chooses not to recall, which is why i'll never purchase another chevrolet. beginning a few months ago my gauges began to be erratic. starting with my speedometer sticking at zero and then later sticking at 60mph even while sitting still. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. next while sitting at traffice lights or stops signs my engine began to surge forward without applying the gas. when the vehicle surges the rpm gauge also jumps up. i already replaced one transmission at 50k miles and now since passing 100k miles have begun to have rough shifting again in my vehicle. i do not drive my vehicle in a rough manner, speed, or haul a trailer, so there is no reason to be going through transmissions. now my fuel gauge has stopped working and i'm having to track my mileage with my odometer. i've never seen a vehicle with so many problems and no help offered from the maker. * tr

Was driving other day and looked down at my speedometer and it said i was doing 70mph, and i thought well maybe the wind was behind me. then i came to a red light, stopped and saw that it said i was still doing 20mph (i was stopped).nice going gm, your batting 1000, first its my fuel gauge now the speedometer what's next? this is my first chevy that i got for my birthday last year well it hasn't even been a year since i have had this vehicle worse birthday gift (to myself) ever. why are all the other 2005 model vehicles being recalled for these things but not the trailblazer? this is not my fault and gm should make it right. *tr

While driving this morning on the highway, my speedometer stopped working. now the gauge is point down and will not register. *kb

As of 2011 (while driving on freeways in multiple occasions) i've been having electrical issues such as my fuel level gage would read full and vehicle would shut off cause no gas in tank, air bags sensor would show it on when no one is sitting in the passenger seat, and there are some electrical issues on driver seat controls not working, dash board gages not showing readings while vehicle is in motion (rmp, speedometer, oil, gas).

Speedometer quits working intermittently. it will work fine for awhile, and then all of a sudden it says we are traveling 0 miles per hour or the speedometer says we are going slower than our actual speed. *tr today i filled my gas tank and now my fuel gage says it is on e and the low fuel light is on.

Problems with my 2005 chevy trailblazer started with a series of engine lights, misfiring and stalling at low speeds and upon acceleration. my thermostat has been replaced numerous amount of times . i do preventative maintenance to keep my car in good working condition. i'm a single parent i need my car. my entire dashboard stopped working after getting stuck on and off. the fuel gauge was last to go 3 days ago. i fill up my tank it still reads empty with the light. my tailgate door the latch locks up. i manually have to move to latch so it closes. my doors sticking when the car is unlocked and it hard to get out the locks don't unlatch the first time. my car is very nice until u get in it to see everything is malfunctioning. i guess my speed, gas level and that's not cool. i been going through these same problems since 2011 and it's 2014. the fuel gauge was the last to go recently. when i fill up my tank it still reads empty with the indicator light. my repair was $565 we thought it was exhaust leak and had to replace the entire manifold it was cracked... i absolutely can't afford anything else and i need tires.please help i'm furious. . when you purchase a vehicle you expect it to last. that doesn't. my mechanics have been the same since day one and have given me every discount and warranty . i want my vehicle repaired i can't physically cause this type of damage . it's internal and not my fault. i have never had a car with this temperament . i have had 4 cars previous to this one and they lasted through the years until i decided to change cars. everyone has the same problems with their vehicle as i do . how is that possible? manufacturers should value quality not quantity. i have every single document to verify this as well as my mechanics. i would like my vehicle repaired and to be reimbursed. *tr

My 2005 chevy trailblazer speedometer quit working. on march 19, 2011, while at a stop light i looked down at the speedometer and it was reading 80 mph standing still. the speedometer reads 120+ while traveling down the highway. i have no idea how fast i am going, i just keep up with the traffic. this is my wife's car and i feel this is very unsafe. i looked on the web to see how i could repair this problem and found there are several people that own chevy trailblazers with this same problem. it seems chevy doesn't see this as a problem for some reason. is there a recall out for this problem with the chevy trailblazer? *tr

The oil pressure gauge stopped working. second incident at a later date, the speedometer stopped working correctly, third incident at a different time, the fuel gauge reads incorrectly, fourth incident, the battery gauge is working sporadically. most of the time the gauges do not function properly or not at all. *tr

traffic was horrible bumper to bumper, i was driving and realized not to rush so i stood in the first lane, as i was driving bumper to bumper i always drive within one car lengths in case i get rear ended. as i am driving bumper to bumper all for a sudden next thing you know my car just suddenly accelerated at incredible speed i manage to swerve into the emergency lane to avoid causing a multiple car pileup my car died instantly i started it up again and it just wanted to take off as it did before i turned the car off thinking to myself my god what just happened and what is going on, i am trying to calm my 12 year old child because it was the most frightening thing i am my family ever went thru. i press the break and just relax for a second and started the car up and it was fine. however, my nerves were pretty much shaken, i had taken the car to jj auto shop in hayward who is ase certified he did a diagnostic on the vehicle he said he could not verify what i was saying, no error lights and the history was clean. he also mentioned the computer at times does not pick up a split of a second acceleration. he believes my story and said everything is done thru computer so there is no finding as of the moment. i was not sold on that but he also recommend i could change the body throttle @ 700.00 but he said i just dont want you to buy the part so you could just drive in the slow lane and if it happens again to shift the car into neutral and turn it off asap> my thing is since cars are computerize this should have why is it they could not verify my situation and also body throttle what he was looking at and what chevy thinks it was! so my complaint is for chevy did they overwrite software to overlook sudden acceleration? the only major issue i had had with my vehicle was when the speedometer went crazy as i was driving 110 but was really going 35mph

My wife was driving our vehicle with our two children in the car. she was traveling at highway speed with the cruise control set when the speedometer of our vehicle faulted. it started showing she was going 110 then 20mph then 50mph and so on and so on. she pulled over, phoned me and we called our insurance company to see if towing could be provided. it would have taken over 2hrs for towing assistance so she traveled the rest of the trip (approx 105miles) following another vehicle in hopes that they were traveling at a safe speed. the following day i research this issue, brougth my vehicle to a dealership and they explained it was a known issue with a 05 trailblazer and the gm had a class action law suit for replacement of this part they state the instrument panel needed to be replaced. however, we later found out that our vehicle was not part of this litigation and we were stuck paying the bill. not only does gm know this is a safety issue, they are unwilling to compensate or take corrective action for their customers. needless to say i am very upset and frustrated for the safety of my family and the fact the gm has not offered any remorse. *tr

Driving home from out of state and filled up the tank and the gas guage still read empty and was all over the place. it is not accurate and jumps around. during the drive i was on a road going 50mph and slowed down in a town to 30mph and the speedometer got stuck at 35mph and would not go up or down. i had a 3 hour commute and did not know how fast i was going to 80% of it. upon researching these issues, it appears to be a frequent issue in this vehicle and is rather expensive to fix, just to have it happen again a year later. this vehicle was previously owned by a family member and was well taken care of.

Bought this vehicle used in oct 2010. not long thereafter, noticed the speedometer wouldn't work all the time - normally it works when i first start driving but when the vehicle warms up, it stops working all together. i think it's a safety issue if you do not know how fast you are going. the cruise control also doesn't work once in a while. most of the time it does, but occasionally i can't get it to go on at all. *tr

The speedometer no longer works on my 2005 trailblazer. it has 61k miles on it. chevrolet has recalled the avalanche, silverado, tahoe, and suburban, but for some reason not the trailblazer. the dealer charges $600 to fix it. this is a safety problem. *tr

Speedometer on 2005 trailblazer is misleading. you can be doing 70mph and it will only register 50 mph. sometimes you can be doing 20 mph and it will register 120 mph. this just started happening and the vehicle only has 56,361 miles on it. *ln

Just one day we got in the car to head to the grocery store and as we were heading there i looked down and the speedometer was at 20 when i was clearly doing 55. i pulled up to a stop light and shut the car off then restarted hoping it would fix itself and nothing. i has never worked right since then. i went to the local chevy dealer and asked to see if there were any recalls on this issue and they told me that there are recalls on every chevy suv and truck except trailblazer and told me to input a complaint to see if they would recall this issue. i asked them how to do that and they said to contact chevy. they were not helpful. the bull**** thing is that every chevy truck and suv from 2003 to 2007 use the same instrument panel so you can't tell me that this paticular vehicle is not like the tahoe, suberban, or silverado that has the same issue as i am having. i am pissed that i have to pay for a faulty part that chevy knows is an issue. *tt

Speedometer will sit at 0 miles per hour or will be 30 miles per hour lower. speedometer will sit below 0 when idle. when i restart it, it may be fine or go back to below 0 to very low miles. i happens more when warmer and running a while. i see that is a problem for many chevrolet trailblazers.

Roughly about 6/7/10 my fuel gage quit working and now on 11/2/10 my speedometer gauge started acting up and is not working. this has something to do with the instrument cluster panel being bad.

Tl* the contact owned a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. while sitting at a traffic stop with her foot depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle abnormally accelerated. the vehicle proceeded to crash into the vehicle ahead of her causing limited damage. the vehicle was not taken in for diagnostic testing. the contact stated the failure occurred once previously without incident. the failure and current mileages were 113,896.

2005 chevrolet trailblazer ls. instrument cluster failure. my speedometer is not working. my cruise control was intermittent for a while, but now no longer functions (fuse is fine).

Speedometer not working. 3/29/10: indicated 0mph while car was moving. 3/30/10: indicated 30mph while car was stationary, and an estimated 30mph over actual speed. 4/2/10: dealership found that speed gage cluster assembly needs to be replaced. ordered replacement. estimated cost (parts+labor) = $550.

No crash or injury, but am really afraid of something happening with my son in the suv. my head lights flicker when i slow down and worried that one day they are going to shut off and not come back on. my gas gauge was the next thing that stopped working and now my speedometer is not working now. just like others i thought that i was getting a quality vehicle, at least toyota corrects their mistakes!! *tr

After filling up my gas tank the fuel sensor read empty and the gas light was on. also, whiel driving the fuel sensor would jump around showing empty, full and the gas light would come on. the vehcile was still under warranty at the time so i took it to the dealership to have it repaired. the service rep at the dealership inidcated that it was a common problem with the fuel sensor and it would need to be replaced. he mentioned that i was lucky the vehicle was still under warranty because the repair was very costly. my vehicle occassionaly lurches when it put inot gear from being parked or idle as if it wants to just take off right away. i contacted gm on this and they stated there was nothing they could do, but i have researched and found that many others have has this same problem. another issude i have had was my speedometer and entire dash cluster failing. while driving on the interstate my speedometer jumped to over 100 mph and then back down to 0. at that point it stopped working for a few minutes then started working properly again. finally it stopped working altogether. i took it to my mechanic and he replaced the enitre cluster panel which cost me around $800.00. again, he did some research and found this to be a common problem. i sent gm a letter with a copy of the repair bill along with documentation of the many complaints i found online with the same issue. i heard nothing. i reached out with a phone call and was told the issue did not warrant a recall. this could be a serious safety issue. please consider a recall as it apperas this vehicle was just poorly made and many other people are experiencing the same issues. *tr
