We have classified the 70 complaints from 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer about FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE into the following categories.
Speedometer and fuel gage completely stopped working. researched the internet and lots of people have complained of this very issue, but no recall has been made. this is a safety hazard and to fix this problem our dealership said it would cost anywhere at the least $500. this really upsets me as we cannot afford to fix this for that amount of money. *tr
a small crack or fracture has developed in the fuel tank filler neck. this will cause the check engine light to come on and may cause the tb to idle poorly when cold. there is a smell of gasoline. *tr
My 2004 trailblazer kicked into full speed while i was traveling in an icy road at 20 mph. it automatically switched to 4 wheel drive, spun at a 90 deg. went into a deep ditch, spun back straight and headed up the ditch, again full speed, into a culvert and totaled the vehicle. both air bag sensors were knocked off the vehicle and neither one opened. i was not injured. shook up a little. traveling alone and coming home from church on a sunday morning at noon. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact smelled a strong odor of gasoline coming from the vehicle. in addition, the engine warning indicator illuminated sporadically on the instrument control panel. she took her vehicle to the dealer and they stated that fuel vapors were leaking and collecting on top of the module. the failure caused fuel to spill onto the ground. the contact would have to pay $1,300 to have the vehicle repaired because it was not registered in a salt belt state. secondly, she noticed that the gauges on the instrument panel were inoperative and displayed inaccurate information. the dealer stated that the vin was not included in the manufacturer's recall for the instrument control panel; therefore, she would have to pay $550 to repair the component. currently, no repairs have been made. the failure mileage was 66,000 and current mileage is 73,000. updated 3/11/09 *cn updated 03/13/09. *jb
Faulty gas tank filler neck on my 04 chevy trailblazer i've done research on the web and found there are many trailblazers with the same problem i'm having and there should be a recall on this because it is dangerous to have fuel leaking out of the gas tank i took it to the dealer(grossinger in lincolnwood il) and was told the tank would cost me 1200 dollars i can't afford that and pay a car note i'm hoping you could help me with gm i don't know what else to do. *tr
I purchased a 2004 chevy trailblazer. everytime i fill the tank i have a strong order of gas. i took my vehicle to the dealership today and they told me that i have a leak in my gas tank and that i need a new gas tank. i searched and found that there are alot of complaints regarding this same issue with other trail blazer owners. i would like for gm to compensate or pay for the repairs that i had no idea about. i would not have purchased the vehicle if i knew that it had a complaint of this magnitude. this is a costly repair. even at the price of gas - i do not have money to waste purchasing it for it to just leak out my vehicle. i am also required to take the vehicle through emissions but can not until the "service engine soon" light goes off. it won't go off until the gas tank is fixed. my license iis in jeopardy because or state (illinois) requires that this is done within a certain time period. i have already received 1 ticket for this because my plates can not be renewed as well until the emissions has passed. *tr
I have 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. i am receiving a "service engine soon" error. i took my vehicle to a chevrolet dealer and it was determined i had a crack in my fuel tank, p0442. i have did some research and discovered other people was having the same problem. the only the solution to the problem is to have the fuel tank replace. i have owned several vehicles and this is the first vehicle that i need the fuel tank replaced. i am very afraid for the safety of my family along with other family. this issue must be addressed to prevent any fatalities and i think gm should take ownership of the problem. *tr
I stated to smell gas on my 2004 chevy trailblazer. about a week later it started leaking gas. i am stationed @ ft. campbell and my mother living in pa had received a letter stating that there was a recall on 2004 trailblazers due to corrosion dealing with the gas tank assembly area. i took my suv to a chevy dealer named james corlew chevrolet in tenn. they informed me that they had not heard of the recall and that it was going to cost me $2645 to fix it. they informed me that the problem was due to a large number of items dealing with the gas tank area assembly rusting and corroding. with me being in the military i need to travel alot to complete various training school. i was informed by my chain of command to report this to the government and if no response to contact my jag department due to the fact that this is a severe safety problem i wont be able to bring my vehicle on to post. *tr
I have taken very good care of my suv. i bought it brand new and have never taken it off road. the service light came on and i took it to the dealer asap. they did a thorough check and found out my gas tank has a leak. the mechanic said there is nothing i could do except purchase a brand new fuel tank. he had also seen this problem before and that there was no recall on this. *tr
2004 chevy trailblazer is leaking fuel. a 3rd party (non-gm) mechanic diagnosed the problem as a crack in the gas tank. according to the mechanic, the vehicle was leaking fuel onto the floor of his shop. *tr
2004 trailblazer ls, 65,000 miles, noticed strong gas odor around the fuel filler door. mechanic just called and said the neck on the fuel tank was cracked and leaking. repair cost $800+ to replace plastic gas tank. based on my research this appear a safety manufacturer defect. *tr
Fuel leakage caused by corosion at fuel pump outlet pipe. gas pumped onto ground under vehicle. mechanic replaced sending/filter unit cost $610.00 plus 5 gallons of gas lost. *tr
Around 50k miles the service engine light came on. i took the vehicle to the dealership. i was asked if i had recently got gas, when i replied yes, he told me to tighten the gas cap and the light would go if in a few days. the light did go off but the mechanic never documented anything about my visit. several weeks later the service engine light came on again. thinking that it was the same situation i tightened the gas cap and did not go back to the dealership. this time the service engine light did not go off. i took the vehicle to an independent garage to get it checked out and the result was a malfunction in the fuel system. often times i smell gas vapors especially after fueling. recently i was parked on a hill and gas was dripping from my tank. local dealerships act as if they have never heard of the problem. my warranty has expired. *tr
Check engine light came on three times within the first month and a half i owned the used 04 trailblazer. it seems common from what most people posted on the internet that this problem occurs anywhere from 35 - 55k miles. the gas tank would constantly release an odor and i would get dizzy every time i drove the truck. i took it in to the dealer and they said it was just a leak in the gas cap and that it needed to be replaced. once the warranty expired (one week later), the s.e..light came on again and the dealer service department stated that there was a crack in the neck of the tank and that it needed to be replaced. i picked it up today after it was replaced and totaled to $1,430. gm knows about this problem and hopefully the letter that i have written to them will solve this issue and that i will either be reimbursed or compensated somehow for lost work and interest paid on this bill. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact was driving approximately 30 mph when the check engine light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where the fuel cap was replaced. the failure recurred within one year. the vehicle was diagnosed and again, located the failure at the fuel cap. the contact stated that the failure recurred three times in which each time; the fuel cap was replaced as the remedy but to no avail. the vehicle was then taken to an authorized dealer and he was advised that the fuel tank exhibited a hairline fracture. the vehicle was then taken to the independent mechanic for repairs in which the fuel tank was replaced. the manufacturer was contacted and a complaint was filed. the vin was unavailable. the failure and current mileage was unknown.
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving at various speeds, the check engine light illuminated and the message center informed the contact to tighten the gas cap. when he attempted to tighten the gas cap, he noticed a thin crack in the filler neck. when he fills the gas tank, there was some leakage from the crack of the filler neck. the contact has taken the vehicle to the dealer, but it was not serviced because the warranty was expired. the current mileage was 34,000 and failure mileage was 33,000. updated 04/22/08. *lj the pipe to the gas tank was composed of plastic. it has a crack about 1/2 inches long at the gas cap area, thus allowing vapors to escape the tank. updated
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel gauge on the instrument panel no longer works. she does not know when to place fuel in the vehicle. the failure has not been repaired. the current mileage was 80,000 and failure mileage was 78,000.
2004 chevy trailblazer. gas leak where the filler neck connects to the tank. i have seen many, many of these on the forums. gm has a bad design here. *tr
Gas leaking from gas tank and causing a puddle of gas to form under vehicle. vehicles is a 2004 chevy trailblazer. refer to nhtsa action # pe07013. *tr
Corroded (leaking) metal elbow from the fuel pump module to the gas lines. failure of the metal elbow caused gas to be pumped onto the top of fuel tank and surrounding areas while driving with just a hint of a gas smell inside the vehicle. the defective fuel module was replaced at an independent auto repair shop. the technician showed me the old part and where it was leaking. corrosion was very heavy on the elbows. *tr
I own a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer that upon trying to start sprayed gas all over the ground and my kids getting in car. i had vehicle towed to dealer just to find there was nothing they would do since i have 70,000 miles on vehicle . the dealer said the fuel pump had rusted through and needed replacing at a cost of 1,200.00$. should a $25,000.00 american made suv last more than 4 years??? *tr
Service engine light on , just out of warranty at the time. garage found leak in fuel tank fill neck. gasoline smell. *tr
I am the first and only owner of a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. around 25,000 miles, ses light came on, got serviced under warranty with a burned out o2 sensor as the cause. at 30, 000 miles, the ses light came on again. i took it to the dealership (out of warranty) and paid $80 for diagnostics. service rep came back saying vehicle was fine, codes were in the computer's history and no problems exist. two days later, ses light pops back up. due to the weather, i garaged my trailblazer and began to smell fuel inside my house, and was even stronger in the garage. raw fuel was leaking out from under the gas tank, and parts were doused. i call gm, explain the problem and basically was told there were no recalls/special repairs etc. on 2004 models. they did call the dealership and will have a rep call me back. *tr
I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer and from day one i've had problems with gas overflowing out of my vehicle when pumping gas in to it. i'm not trying to top off the tank, at the first click i stop pumping and gas overflows outside of the vehicle all over my car, my feet and legs and the ground. sometimes i don't even get the warning click that it's full. it doesn't do it all the time so when i've taken it to my dealership they say they can't duplicate the problem. i've met other trailblazer owners at the pump and they say they have the same problem. this doesn't seem safe or environmentally sound. i have had the vehicle for 4 years and have tried many different gas stations/pumps. *jb
When filling up with gas, it spews from the tank when gas nozzle is removed. it does not matter how much gas is in tank & happens even when tank is not being topped off. also when filling, you must constantly reposition the nozzle because of gas build up in tank line will inadvertently cause pump to turn off. this has happened on numerous occasions, however last night was the final straw, trailblazer had a quarter tank of gas, after pumping in less than a gallon, nozzle/pump started its clicking/auto shut off. i removed the nozzle to reposition it as usual & upon removal of nozzle gas sprayed (like spraying from a hose nozzle)from the tank as if under pressure. i was completely covered with gas from the waist down, i'm not talking about a light spray but soaked through my clothes to the skin with gas. based on the amount of gas left on the ground i estimate that 2 or 3 gallons sprayed from the tank, the only way it was stopped was by putting the cap on. although not seriously injured i am now covered in a rash from the gas from the waist down. *jb
The check engine light kept coming on and they replaced a sensor and had me buy a new fuel cap which didn't fix the problem. i had taken my vehicle to the dealership 5 times before they correctly diagnosed the problem as a fuel tank vapor leak. the only way to fix this is to replace the entire fuel tank. my vehicle has been in the the service department for the past 3 weeks and the fuel tank is on national backorder. i have been reading about this being a problem on the trailblazer ext. on many websites and blogs. it seems that this would be of a huge safety concern. *tr
2004 chevrolte trailblazer- it cuts off while in traffic. there is a blog site with people from all over the country complianing of the problem. dealer says, 'cannot duplicate problem.' the vehicle also produces strong gasoline odor. dealer says, 'cannot duplicate problem.' this problem is also listed on the blog complaint site with a warning not to leave the vehicle in the garage or the fumes will ignite.
I was smelling gas fumes coming from my '04 chevy trailblazer. after some investigation found that the fitting going into the fuel tank from the fill line is leaking. the check engine has been on for a while. *tr
2004 trailblazer ls with code p0455 diagnosed with broken/cracked seam on fuel tank inlet neck. very strong fuel odors both inside and outside vehicle. chevy acknowledged this same problem with the 2002 models via campaign #05012. this is a safety issue, can leaking fuel and/or breathing fumes be deemed as safe? chevy needs to step up and proactively fix the problem on all trailblazer models. i know both nhtsa and chevy know of this problem already, so are liable if nothing is done. *jb
I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer lt. on the gas tank where the fill neck is connected to it, the seam is cracked and leaks gas. i have tried to have the tank repaired but with no success. i have contacted gm and visited a chevy dealership about this concern and they want me to pay $1,300 + plus change the tank. this vehicle has not been damaged in a wreck. this is simply a defective part that causes a huge safety concern for me. i have read of other trailblazer gas tanks cracking at the same location that resulted in a campaign to replace them. i think that gm should replace these tanks that crack before they result in a fire and cause damage or injury. gm and the dealership have demonstrated no concern for my safety and that of my family. i feel that this safety issue should eb dealt with by the manufacturer. thank you for your time. *tr
Tl*- the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trail blazer ext with an odometer reading of 40,000 miles. the failure mileage was 36,000. the first incident involved leak in a fuel hose and the second was a crack in the fuel tank. the dealer advised the contact to call and complain to nhtsa since the 2004 are not under the recall, and the 2002 are under recall for the same issue. the dealer had temporarily repaired the vehicle. the contact smells fumes while driving. the fumes are detectable while driving at any speed. the contact did not hit anything to cause the damage. the contact has repair invoices and pictures.
I bought this vehicle brand new and since purchase it is in and out of the show with numerous electrical and gas problems. everytime you put gas in the vehicle it spills out from the underside. the dealership has replace parts pertaining to the fuel system and it has not solved the problem. my radio has been replaced and still does not work properly. my headlights dim up and down, the air blows low and high the interior lights flash off and on the engine runs rough and all these symptoms happen sporadically. it has been in the dealership numerous times and everytime i take it they state they cannot duplicate the problem. this vehicle i feel is a safety issue and i do not feel comfortable putting my family in it. i am currently filing a lemon law complaint with the better business bureau. *jb
When filling gas tank, gas spews out of the gas tank before the pump turns off. it don't matter how the gas nozzle is put in. it happens every time. *nm
I have 2004 trailblazer and i have had the gas line replaced and adjusted several time due to unable to fill up with gas and i again took it back now they want to replace the gas tank . this is an on going problem and the warranty has just went out and i am still having these problems it will work for a few months then it wont let you fill it up any more and i have to continue ta take it in. *nm
I was just reading the complaints & thought i would submit a few of my own. gas fillling is always a task as tank always seems to "overflow" & gas sprays out everywhere. i was told it is because of the type of filler line that gm uses. headlights constantly going from normal to dim, to dimmer, then back to normal, regardless of driving conditions. saw the one from the person being shocked, this too has always happened to me since the first day i bought the trailblazer. if i touch the metal of the door upon exiting the vehicle theres a large jolt from static electricity i assume. the arc from this jolt is very visible & i estimate it to 2 inches in length at times (longer your in the vehilce...bigger the arc). all the rubber trim on the backhath has come off. plastic lining used on fenderwells constantly coming loose & must be reatached. carpet around pedals has all come loose. i bought this vehicle nov. 1 2004 & it is hardly been driven with only 6,000 miles yet seems to be falling apart already. *jb
The gas tank always overflowes when filled. it is hard to position the nozzle into the filler neck so that gas flows without holding the pump handle and repositioning several times during the filling process. the oveflow is not from trying to top off the tank either. it happens when the tank is not even full. i have had the vehicle into the dealership more than five times for this and for electrical/battery problems in less than one year. no correction has been made.*ak
2004 chevrolet trailblazer fuel filler inlet overflows upon tank fill-up. this condition occurs at fill-up when pump handle is set on automatic shut off, or when shut off occurs when manually filling. this condition is repeatable, and happens regardless of what gas station is used. this condition was reported to a local chevrolet dealer. their fix was to replace the inlet filler hose to the tank. this fix was unsuccessful and the condition still exists. currently attempting to schedule another service appointment.
2004 trailblazer, been having issues from 30k miles on with check engine light and they kept telling me bad fuel cap, after about a doz or more new caps now leaking filler tube. found out this is the cause of the check engine lights. fuel can leak out and cause a fire not to mention damage to the environment. 2004 ext versions were recalled but not the ls why??? in wisconsin and when checking the internet found hundreds of complaints with the same issue. how long will it take before action is done with this problem? does someone need to die?? *tr
The problem is that my 2004 chevrolet trail blazer spits up fuel back out of the fuel tank after filling up the tank. i am not trying to top off. everytime i fill up, fuel spits back out from the tank after i remove the fuel pump. i have taken my car to the dealer twice now, they are on their third attempt to fix the problem. it happened several times before i took my car in to the dealer. i thought maybe it was the gas station i was using. so i tried several different pumps in different cities and the same thing happened. that's when i decided to take the car in for service.*ak
I have had my vehicle for less than a month and filled it with gasoline 6 times in two cities at different gas stations. i never have topped off the tank, but when the fuel pump handle clicks off, the gasoline pours out from the tank under my vehicle. it never matters how much fuel i put in the vehicle it always "over flows."
My complaint is regarding a potential incident. i own a 2004 chevy trailblazer. i bought this new in 2004. within 3 months, i smelled gas from inside the truck. then noticed when i fill the tank, it leaks out of the top. i brought this to gm attention and they said there is no recall and that i would be responsible 100%. could cost up to 1000. can you please investigate the issue and determine if there are others out there like me? i beleive this is a lemon type issue and i am planning to have my attorney take action but wanted to get your feedback?
Every time i fill up the gas tank (tried 10 different pumps at 10 different gas stations) the autoshut off on the gas pump does not work quick enough. gas overflows out of the tank and spills on the ground. something wrong with the design of the trailblazers fill up tube? i am not trying to "top off" the tank either.
