2004 chevrolet trailblazer. consumer writes in regards to customer relationship specialist dismissive and premature file closure of defective vehicle fuel tank inlet check valve fracture problem with no current repair solutions. *smd
2004 chevrolet trailblazer. consumer writes in regards to fuel tank inlet check valve mileage restrictions repair issues. *smd the dealer would not honor the special coverage adjustment program, because the consumer's vehicle had high mileage. *jb
Check engine light came on,when it was checked it showed there was a large e-vap leak. when pressure test was done on system fuel started coming out of hose going into top of fuel tank. was told there was a major recall on this part. however because i exceeded the mileage by 20,000 mi gm will not cover damage. this is a major safety problem and i was never notified of this problem like i think gm should have. i believe gm should re-imburse any out of pocket funds owner spends to fix problem and make vehicle safe again. *tr
Was constantly having the service engine light soon come on. went to my repair shop and they said i needed to replace my gas cap. they reset the sensor and replaced my gas cap. same thing happened on and off over the last 9 months. on july 18th it happened again . took it to different shop and they performed a smoke test and found a crack in the gas tank where the filler tube is, so when the gas tank is full it leaks or when you corner. not a lot but i would assume that any would be bad considering the exhaust pipe is right there. looking online i found nhtsa already had an item regarding this issue its number is pe07014. i contacted chevy and was told that my vin number was not attached to the action but it is the same issue that was noted on the nhtsa action notice and research i performed on the web. did they tell you that they were only going to cover certain vin. i could not find this anywhere on your site. but could have missed it. *tr
Failed emissions testing due to evap error code. my 2004 chevy trailblazer was taken to the mechanic who performed a smoke test and identified a small leak at the fuel tank inlet. he was aware of the issue and printed out a 'special coverage adjustment - fuel tank inlet check valve fracture # xxxxx - (08/24/2007) ' and advised me to take it to the dealer. he also advised me that my vin was not on the list but the problem is the same as identified by others on multiple other forums on the internet and the printout. dealer refused to do the warranty work citing the fact my vin was not on the list. i contacted gm and am escalating the issue. the smell of gasoline is more pervasive than ever before! *tr
Fuel tank is leaking fuel from top of tank. strong smell of gas outside and inside vehicle. drips down side of tank when driving. repair is over $1000 dollars. internet is full of same complaints. why is there no action recalling this public hazard? vehicle is ext extended version. called gm and they say they have no knowledge of problem. despite an earlier notice.. this agency needs to be more accountable. this is what happens when the government owns the business they are to regulate. shame. read your complaints and take action. *tr
I first starting smell gas out side the trailblazer after filling it up. i looked at the fuel tank and looks to be leaking at the filler neck. now i am smell gas coming through the vents inside the vehicle. *tr
2004 chevy trailblazer fuel gauge not working it goes around in circles does not measure fuel and has caused vehicle to run out of gas, the gauge started measuring incorrectly, then moving from full to empty going in circles now its stuck arrow pointing downward, my family and i were lucky that the vehicle behind us was not speeding or else he would have slammed into the back of our suv and caused a serious accident. *kb
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer ls. the contact noticed after refueling the vehicle to capacity, the fuel would leak onto the ground. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the top portion of the fuel tank was fractured. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified of the problem. there was a technical service bulletin pertaining to the defect under nhtsa item number 10026522 (fuel system, other:storage:tank assembly). the approximate failure mileage was 125,000.
While getting a tuneup, third party mechanic advised me that there was a crack in the neck of the gas tank, where the filler tube meets the tank itself. i was advised there was a recall on the 2003 chevy trailblazer for the same defect. i was also advised there was a nhtsa investigation. i was told my vin# did not fall within the recall. the third party mechanic advised $800 to replace the tank. i called gm customer service and was told to take it to a gm dealer and have a gm certified mechanic verifiy the third party mechanic's findings. i did so and was charged by the gm dealer to verify there was a crack. when gm customer service called back and verified that there was a problem, they assigned me to a gm customer assistance representative who would investigate if they could assist me with the repairs. approximately 10 days later i was advised that they would not be able to assist me because the problem i was experiencing was due to age and mileage of the vehicle. there are numerous reports of owners of 2004 chevy trailblazer owners on the internet that have experienced the exact same problem with fractured, cracked and broken connections on the gas tank where the filler tube meets the tank. i don't understand why a recall for this has not been issued. my vehicle is 7 years old and has less than 90,000 miles on it. we don't live in a state that is considered to be a "corrosive hazard state". if the same problem is happening to the same part on the same vehicle, what is keeping a recall from being issued? *kb
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that after refueling, fuel would spill out from the filler neck. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where they advised her that there was a hole in the fuel tank and the filler was fractured. the entire fuel tank would need to be replaced. the vehicle fuel tank was replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
Instrument panel failure, ran out of gas on a busy four lane highway during morning rush hour. i was in the left hand lane and was unable to move to the shoulder. i now became a major traffic problem until some nice citizen helped me push the truck out of harms way, having to stop both lanes of traffic so i could cross. had i a working gas gauge i feel this would not have happened, none of the instruments in the vehicle work, chevy has recalled other models of this year with the same problems, but not the trailblazer. why? *kb
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that there was a fracture in the fuel neck line, causing a fuel leak. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer where the dealer stated to the contact that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 103,000.
Faulty fuel sending unit: causing fuel gauge to not read correctly or all together. would like to replace but don't have the $600 quoted by the dealer. *tr
2004 chevy trailblazer ls 4wd. i had noticed a strong smell of gasoline. about two days later my service engine soon light came on. i took it to a mechanic to have it checked out and was told that there was an evaporative leak detected according to the codes that the computer was giving. the mechanic then checked the vehicle further and notice that there was a hairline fracture in the fuel tank near the filler nozzle. i was told that this was a very common problem with this vehicle and he told me to contact chevy for a possible recall. i did contact chevy and was told there was no recall but i could take it to a chevy dealership and have it fixed at my expense. i can not even park this vehicle in my garage for risk of a fire and the vehicle can not pass emissions inspection because it has a leak. i have received a citation for failure to inspect because it wont pass the inspection process. it will cost me approx $800 to have this fixed. *tr
We have a low mileage 2004 chevy trail blazer (under 45,000 miles as of september 2011). in march 2011, the check engine light illuminated. we had the oil changed and tried some fixes with the battery cables. all reset the engine light, but each time the light would again illuminate after several days had passed. in august 2011, we took it to texas auto service to have them test the engine light sensor and we then paid for them to replace the canister vent solenoid. once again, the light turned off for a period of days and then came back on. in late september we took it to firestone - and after 2 days of testing, it was determined that the fuel tank had a crack. we then picked it up from firestone and took it to bankston chevrolet in ft worth - after another day of testing, they concurred and we were forced to pay $1336.18 to have the fuel tank replaced... otherwise we ran the risk of a fire. we did research and find that many of the gm trucks have had recalls on this specific failure - but not our specific year/model and vin number. *tr
Gas gauge reading is incorrect. the gas gauge reads 3/4 immediately after a fill-up and then reads empty soon thereafter. *tr
General motors vehicle is showing an incorrect speed, the speedometer stops working, the tachometer needle sticks or stops working, the fuel gauge flutters or the entire instrument panel fails. *tr
On my 2004 trailblazer, my wife complained about gas fumes in the car. i noticed gas streaming from around the top of gas tank. i dropped the gas tank down and noticed the leak was streaming from one of the metal lines exiting from the fuel pump. the corrosion was so bad i only had to lightly push on the metal line and it broke into. if my wife didn't smell the fumes this could have burst into a fire if it eventually sprayed onto the exhaust system. *tr
Chevrolet trailblazer has check engine light on. i can smell gas when vehicle is in garage. looked underneath and found a crack in the fuel tank filler hose flange. called chevy and found there is a service bulletin, #05012 and tsb 07076. chevrolet told me the same problem has been found and fixed on models as the trailblazer, but my vehicle would not be covered. the reason is my vehicle is registered in tennessee and is not on the "corrosion list of states". i did not see the difference as there are vehicles documented having the same problem as mine. *tr
My head lights don't come on randomly. randomly they do. obviously, this is a serious safety issue especially at night. no, it's not light bulb replacemet issues.....other blog sites have complained about the same issues. very dangerous!!!! the gas gauge also is not working properly. when the gas gets low it blinks on for a second then adds more gas to the panel. people could run out of gas unknowingly. also very dangerous! *tt
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated the cruise control as well as the fuel gauge no longer functioned. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was told they do not know how to remedy the failures. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 115,000.
Fuel tank leak on 2004 chevy trailblazer. *tr
2004 chevrolet trailblazer ls 4.2 i6-ses light went off while driving. took it to autozone and the scanner read code p0455. had a mechanic look at it and he found a crack on the gas tank at the neck where it connects to the filler neck.this repair runs into the hundreds of dollars which i do not have. i haven't even finished paying off the car yet. i researched the problem online and have found quite a few trailblazer ownerswith the exact same problem. *tr
2004 trailblazer gas gauge does not work. my husband filled the truck up with gas and next morning the gauge went from e to past f and does not read anything now. this is the 2nd sensor to go out. the rpm sensor also went out a year ago. talked to the dealer ship, they said to contact nhtsa and let them know. i read online and there are several complaints about the sensors going out and gm knowing they have issues. *tr
The fuel gauge does not work properly. it sometimes indicates there is more fuel than there actually is in the tank. sometimes it shows it is empty when it is not. *tr
My 2004 chevy trailblazer has a gas leak leaks when running and that poses a danger to everyone that has this model gas tank this is clearly a defect many people online have posted about it its seems to be in a range from 2002 2004 trailblazer envoy that's what i've found out from my research. *tr
Fuel sending unit stops sending correct information to the fuel gauge causing improper fuel level reading which lead to inadvertently running out of fuel in middle of the highway. fuel gate will stay at 1/4 full the entire time. with a full tank of gas the gauge still reads 1/4 full. the operator has to guess how much gas is left in the tank. *tr
I have a 2004 trailblazer lt with 94,931 miles and am the original driver. the check engine light came on 2-3 years ago and i have taken to several different mechanics to diagnose with no success. in june 2010 i took into the local chevy dealership for 100k service and was told i had a cracked fuel tank filler neck which i had to replace at a cost of ~$1000. this fixed the check engine light as well. chevrolet is aware of this fuel tank issue and denies there is an issue with any model except 2002-2003 trailblazer ext's and gmc envoy xl models under tsb 05012. in reviewing the nhtsa website it is apparent the scope of this problem goes beyond these models. the local dealership advised they were aware the trailblazer models had issues with the fuel tank but referred us to general motors as there was no tsb from gm for this model. i spoke to 3 separate people at gm customer assistance who advised they would investigate and came back within 3 business days and denied any responsibility. i questioned gm about the numerous occurrences of cracked or corroded fuel tank filler neck issues and referenced the nhtsa website. they advised the nhtsa website, where many of these cases are documented, is not a gm recognized website for this type of issue and was essentially told they (gm) ignored complaints from this website. i was advised by the gm rep nothing else would be considered and when i asked for someone "higher" at gm to speak with was told they couldn't provide anymore information. when asked for the corporate address and ceo info i was told they wouldn't give that information out but i could look it up on the internet. bottom line is chevrolet does not stand behind their safety claims or vehicle issues and i feel compelled to have this documented on the nhtsa website. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the vehicle was leaking fuel. the contact stated that the fuel odor was very strong when fuel was added to the fuel tank. the smell began to fade after the fuel started to burn. the contacts mechanic stated that the failure was coming from the fuel tank module, which failed. the failure mileage was 75000 and the current mileage was 126030. updated 05/03/11*lj the second time the consumer went to the dealer, she was informed the vehicle needed a new gas tank due to a crack located in the neck area. updated 08/08/11
1. there is no event that led to the failure, rather it is a crack at the gas tank neck, which is covered on document 07099a for the chevrolet trailblazer ext, however i have the trailblazer lt which suffers from the same symptoms. 2. as it is a crack there is fuel leaking as well as fumes into the vehicle cabin. 3. gm does not want to cover the cost to fix the replacement of the fuel tank and labor as covered for the trailblazer ext. *tr
My 2004 chevy trailblazer will not accept gasoline. i had a 1/4 tank left and went to a gas station. to my surprise the vehicle would not let me fill the tank. i was first told that the vent might be dirty then a cylinder in the gas tanks system might have failed. the mechanic found a bulletin that said i had to replace the fuel tank filler upper pipe and lower hose because of vapors filling up inside. i paid for gas that ended up all over the ground instead of in my tank. i called the dealer to find out that a bulletin is different then a recall so they were not entitled to pay for it. i purchased in 2009 and gm knows about it but will not recall it. what if it explodes in the gas station from the vapors. who's fault would it be then. i had no idea and would never buy a chevy again. first i had a problem with the check engine light coming on when the gas cap was not put back on right and now i can't even get gas. what good is a vehicle if you can't use it. i am still paying for it. as soon as it paid for i will be trading it in. the dealer gave me a smo about a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty. when i bought it had 62,500 miles already on it. why should i pay for something they knew was a problem but won't recall. please recall this vehicle. in reading the bulletins for this vehicle i found that there are problems with the electrical system, the air bags, the fuel system, the transmission, speedometer, etc. how many problems do you need for one vehicle or are they waiting for someone to get killed over it. the bulletin says that a small amount of fuel may spit back out. well that is a lie. all the fuel in the 1/4 tank spilled out on the ground and i paid for the gas i could not get in the tank. gm is no help, dealer is no help. the only one that was straight up with me was the mechanic. i am going to hate to see the bill for this one. my tax dollars at work. i agree why should we bail out the auto companies when they don't care ...
On january 25, 2010, the "check engine" light came on. i took my car in to the dealer on january 28. they said there was a crack where the filler tube attaches to the fuel tank, and the entire tank/filler tube assy would have to be replaced, at a cost of over $1300. three mechanics at the dealership told me this is a very common failure, they have seen it many times. they said i could look for a used tank to save money on the repair, but they did not recommend it because "all those tanks fail." i did some checking on line and found that this is indeed a common failure. i called the gm consumer help line and asked for some help on the repair cost, since this is apparently a design flaw and a common failure. the assigned me service request, but a few days later called back and said that gm would not help out on the repair cost. my car is a 2004 trailblazer with 67,500 miles, and thus out of warranty, but i believe gm should still be at least partially responsible for a common failure. *tw *tr
Crack in fuel tank 2004 chevy trailblazer ls. crack is just below where the filler tube goes into tank. i have researched online and find that this is a common problem but there is no recall. i am concerned about a fire and explosion. a new fuel tank from the dealer is over $1000. i have tried to patch it but it is made of a special plastic that is herd to repair. *tt
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving 55 mph, the speedometer indicated a speed of 0 mph. each time she operated the vehicle, the contact stated that the speedometer would display an improper reading. the vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where it was repaired. three days later, the failure occurred again. in addition to the speedometer, the fuel gauge also gave incorrect readings on the fuel level and the rpm gauge also displayed incorrect readings. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the fuel tank had to be removed and the rpm gauge failure had been repaired three times. the problems had not been remedied. the failure mileage was approximately 120,000 and the current mileage was approximately 142,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trail blazer. the contact stated that after refueling, the smell of gasoline fuel was emitted inside of the vehicle. the check engine warning light was also illuminated during the failure . the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where the mechanic confirmed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced due to a leak. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 99,000.
I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer ls with 49k miles and the fuel gauge reads way past the full mark almost all the time. *tr
Two years ago check engine light came on. code was gas cap. replaced cap twice, no improvement. mechanic then found small leak in neck of fuel tank. rapid leak, worked fine for two years. now, on december 7, 2010, check engine light on again. found that fuel tank filler neck is broken and leaking again. required a new fuel tank installed at cost of $750 +. *tr
2004 chevrolet trailblazer lt leaking gas & fumes where filler neck joins tank. have learned online that there are many people having the same problem. dealer and gm will do nothing to help me pay for the repairs. i paid $1350.00 to have a new gas tank installed. this must be a defect. i had my vehicle checked several times for the service engine soon light in the past. one occasion was the fuel cap and on another they could find no code. this should be covered. they know they have a problem. my extended warranty ran out 26 days before this happened. *tr thank you
Check engine light came on; has come on recurrently since (code p0442), which indicates leak in fuel evap system. analyzed by independent tech and powers-swain chevrolet (a gm dealer) verifies fuel tank inlet check valve fracture. gm's resolution to date is refusal to act due to age/mileage of car. gm has a recall for same defect on long body 2002-2004 models. their campaign 07099a is part of their recall. i have seen many other trailblazer fuel system problems on internet sites. this defect allows fuel vapor (possibly ignitable) to escape in the vicinity of electrical connections. there needs to be a recall on this defect, regardless of age/mileage of vehicles.
The fuel tank on my 2004 chevy trailblazer is leaking fuel due to corrosion. i have tried to fix the problem myself but was unsuccessful. my local chevy dealership recognizes a service bulletin but says it doesn't pertain to my vehicle since it hasn't been registered in certain states. *tr
2004 chevy trailblazer leaking gasoline from the fuel line. gasoline is leaking out of tank constantly all over the garage and anywhere the car is driven. huge fire or explosion hazard. same problem as special code 07099 and tsb #05012 where extended warranty was issued on ext models only. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. she smelled a strong odor of gasoline in her vehicle. a technician from the dealer concluded that the fuel tank developed a fatigue crack and needed to be replaced. the contact was responsible for the repair cost. the failure mileage was 139,211. updated 12/09/09 *bf updated 12/10/09. *jb
My gas tank always reads empty and the fuel light is always on. occasionally after a fill up, it will appear that i have a small amount of gas, but soon returns to empty. for the last 6 months or more i have had to reset my mileage trip gauge every time i fill up and watch the mileage so i don't run out of gas. this is extremely inconvenient. also, one night about 2 weeks ago, my speedometer was reading 20 miles an hour more than the speed we were traveling. even after we stopped completely, the gauge read 20 mph. the next day it was once again normal and has been since, but this was very strange. *tr
The service engine light on our chevy 2004 trailblazer ls came on. took the vehicle to our mechanic who said there is a small crack in the fuel tank. i drove the vehicle out of town to a mechanic we highly trust explained the problem and were advised to take the vehicle to the dealership because he believed there was a special warranty in place for emissions problems. while at the dealership they confirmed there is a fuel tank inlet check valve fracture and should be covered under the special coverage adjustment #07099a. at the end of the day i was told my particular vehicle could not be covered because of the break in the vin number. i then contacted gm personally and talked to a specialist who said she would have to look into it. she got back to me and basically said there is nothing gm can do because the warranty only covers the ext model, even though this is obviously a factory defect and a safety hazard! i was told my vehicle would be used for future evidence that this seems to be occurring in our particular model "trailblazer ls". so we are left with a cracked fuel tank that gm refuses to take care of. *tr
I have a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer ls that seems to have a very strong gas odor in the cabin and also drips gas underneath the gas tank. i heard that there was recall due to fuel odors in the cabin of the vehicle and drops of gasoline on the ground from the fuel tank inlet valve. i can't fill my tank up because of loss of fuel and odor inside vehicle. also, i have the constant fear of my vehicle exploding at any given time. please help or give advise at what i should do!! *tr
My 2004 chevrolet trailblazer 4wd has 41,000 miles on the odometer. recently the service engine soon (ses) light became illuminated. personal inspection of the vehicle revealed a small crack in the plastic fuel tank. the crack was located at the "weld" or joint where the plastic fuel fill pipe connects to the tank. this fill pipe also houses the fuel tank inlet check valve (icv). as my vehicle was past the three-year - 36,000 mile warranty period i attempted to glue the leaking crack. this held for a few weeks, the ses light went out and there was no odor or appearance of gasoline leaking from the area. eventually, though, the leak returned, evidenced by the ses light illumination and gasoline leaking from the repaired area. another repair attempt was made and is currently under observation. this exact problem appears to be detailed in general motors document id# 1985459; subject: special coverage adjustment - fuel tank inlet check valve fracture #07099 - (06/07/2007). this referenced document only pertains to 2002-2004 chevrolet trailblazer ext and gmc envoy xl, both longer wheelbase models than my standard ls model. upon my discovery of this manufacturer known problem with this vehicle model, i took my trailblazer to the local chevrolet dealer today. the service consultant said he was not familiar with my problem and was unable to access the computer database for any relevant documents for my vehicle. he did take a copy of the above referenced special coverage adjustment document and promised a return call tomorrow. *tr
Hello i am writing concerning my 2004 chevy trailblazer. when i first bought this vehicle the gauges all messed up and it would say i was going 90 when i wasn't moving at all. now, the dealer went ahead and fixed that for me, but now the gas gauge is screwing up, it will say i have more gas then i have, it's been doing this for about 2 months now, and i've ran out of gas three times with my babies in the car. i did some research and there are alot of complaints about the exact same thing. when is this going to be recalled? how many complaints does it take? this is very dangerous, i have to drive 1000 miles soon, my husband is deployed now to iraq and i am suppose to go to visit family and i'm scared to do that in this vehicle and its all i have. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that his gas tank filler neck failed and was loose. as a result, fuel leaks out. the manufacturer and dealer stated that the vin was not covered under the recall and they only offered to pay 50% of the repair cost. the failure mileage was 55,000. updated 02/04/09 *bf the consumer looked underneath the vehicle and discovered gas was seeping from what appeared to be where the rubber hose from the filler neck attaches to the gas tank and was seeping down onto the bottom of the gas tank. updated 02/04/09. *jb
