Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

Instrument panel malfunctions...speedometer jumps and gets pinned also tachometer does the same thing. you can be driving 20 miles per hour and the speedometer shows 85. its happening more and more. *tr

Speedometer, generator gauge, and oil pressure gauge stopped working over three years ago. i checked for a recall but was told there was not one on this model. i was told there were recalls for other chevrolet vehicles, and kept waiting for a notice regarding the trailblazer. i am worried now the fuel gauge will stop working. the mileage is now at almost 81,000 miles. the speedometer and other gauge issues create a very hazardous problem, and is detrimental to the safety of me and my children / other passengers. i would like to be notified of a recall notice. *tr

I have a 2003 chevy trailblazer and after some heavy rain my speedometer stopped working. i did research on the web to find that there are others who have the same issue where a change in weather makes the device stop functioning. when i contacted gm they said that despite the lawsuit that is evident about the same type of issue, my model was not listed. i have read online where other people have experienced the same thing. i find it odd that gm knows this is a problem but expects everyone to pay $400-600 to get it fixed. if it is a defect in their product they should honor the fact that we paid for it and now it has failed people. *tr

The tach is not operating properly. it is currently pointed past 7000 rpm when vehicle is off. *tr

Instrument panel gauges have been not working properly. oil gauge is pegged way past the highest number. battery voltage shows minus volts, rpm shows minus numbers when stopped or even zero rpms when moving. temp gauge now starts showing less than normal. this is completely unsafe and needs to be fixed by chevy. if other models in this class are fixed why not the trailblazer. *tr

I own a 2003 chevy trailblazer. noticed the speedometer doesn't go past 0 on my vehicle. all other gauges working properly. i'm reading a lot of complaints regarding this gauge on this particular model of chevy, but no recalls. why not? *tr

Fuel gauge unreliable/erratic. fuse gauge will read past full occasionally after filling the tank. after some amount of fuel is consumed the gauge will slowly begin reading within range and eventually as the tank empties it will typically, but not always, begin to read what i assume is a correct amount. it is hit/miss at each ignition turn whether the gauge will read what appears to be correct fuel level. when the issue is occurring, the gauge does not do the ?zero? reset calibration. i have been advised this could be the stepper motor in the gauge cluster (known manufacturer defect that gm refuses to acknowledge for this model vehicle) or the sending unit. this condition is a safety concern because when it does happen, i never know how much fuel i have remaining and i or whoever is driving the vehicle could be left stranded along a desolate highway with no fuel. *tr

Dash in trailblazer not working. *tr

Defect in instrument cluster of 2003 chevrolet trailblazer. all other models for this year have been recalled because of this except the trailblazer. i have read numerous reports on the web of this defect. it needs to be recalled for the gm dealers to fix. *tr

I have an 2003 trailblazer with a bad instrument cluster(speedo, tach, gas gauge, temp) all not working! all of chevy vehicles in this class( tahoe, silverado) have been recalled for this problem except for the trailblazer. this seems a bit ridiculous to me considering the part numbers for the clusters are all exactly the same. when i went to the dealership i was told it would cost around $500 for the repair. i contacted chevy and was told it is not their problem even though thousands of their vehicles have been recalled for the exact problem with the exact same part numbers. i had to buy a gps system just so i could know how fast i am traveling because i could not afford the full repair cost, nor do i feel i should have to. i have done plenty of online research and have found thousands of complaints identical to mine. my problem is that i don't understand why they recalled the tahoes and silverados and not the trailblazer when the part numbers are identical. *tr

...the instrument cluster...tach, speedometer, gas gauge, have all malfunctioned...the tach stopped working all together in '09....the speedo has stopped ,...miss read speed which means that i have no idea how fast i'm going..the gas gauge is inaccurate...telling me that i have more fuel than i actually have....there is no one fuse, solenoid, or fix per instrument...i'm told the whole cluster must be replaced...$275 last time i checked...this has be brought up to my local dealership...this is "not" acceptable!!!....there should be individual "fixes' and not a "money making' situation for gm...!!! *tr

Speedometer is going past 120 mph while driving and when sitting still it reads around 60 mph. i have no money to fix it at this time. *tr

2003 chevy trailblazer. speedometer went out on my vacation to florida. had about 63,000 miles then. it got stuck at different speeds and stays stuck until my husband disconnects the battery cables. it happens probably once a week. don't have $600 dollars to fix the cloister problem. reading about the problem it seems pretty common and chevy should recall it. i've had chevy's all my life but this one is a lemon and wouldn't recommend it to anyone!!! any suggestions? can chevy pay part of it or recall it?? thanks *tr

Started hearing a ticking noise coming from under the hood. took it in to get checked out. had to replace fan clutch motor at a cost of nearly 500 dollars. 2 weeks later started having crazy speedometer readings. *tr

Purchased 2003 trailblazer, 1 month after purchase, speedometer and rpm gauge erratically moving consistently. after searching the internet and observing thousands of complaints regarding this same issue i felt compelled to not only write a letter to gm, but also to write complaints to everyone i could possibly think of to write a letter to regarding this problem. not only does this problem leave the consumer with a financial burden, safety issues should also be considered to the consumer as well as other drivers at risk of being innocent citizens subject to the defective automobiles that gm has been allowed to sell without any loyalty to the consumers who show their american loyalty by purchasing gm's defective automobiles!!! *tr

2003 chevy trailblazer instrument panel failure. about 2 yrs ago the tach. quit working or reads incorrectly. currently the speedometer and now the temp. and gas gauge have quit or give erroneous readings. i was told other truck models have been recalled but not the trailblazer. this is a dangerous situation for the operation of the vehicle, i have to get it fixed at my own expense. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 70 mph, the speedometer read 110 mph. the contact stopped the vehicle for a few minutes to allow the speedometer to reset, but it only decreased to 90 mph. the dealer stated that there was electrical failure and the instrument panel console cluster needed to be replaced. the vehicle has not been repaired. the contact must use her gps to determine how fast she is driving. she feels that gmc should be responsible for the repair. the failure mileage was 75,000 and current mileage was 78,734.

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the rpm dial fails to move and the speedometer is beginning to fail. initially, the speedometer made a ticking noise as the speed increased, but currently the dial is stuck at 40 mph. whenever the engine is turned off, the speedometer dial does not go back to zero. when the vehicle is restarted, the dial will drop to 35 mph. when the driver accelerates, the dial moves and remains at 40 mph. as a result, the contact is never sure how fast she is driving. the manufacturer stated that they were aware of the failures and issued an improvement campaign for those with vehicles that had less than 80,000 miles. through research, the contact found numerous vehicles with the same failures, but with more mileage. she believes that a recall should be issued because it is obviously a manufacturer defect. the vehicle has not yet been repaired. the failure mileage was 96,000 and current mileage was 101,000. updated 08/31/09 *bf updated 09/04/09.*jb

Speedometer quit working during a cold rainy spell in january 2009. as the weather warmed, the speedometer starting working but quickly malfunctioned again. now the speedometer does not work at all and stays at 120 consistently. i have the vehicle speed sensor replaced in feb. 2009, but it did not correct the problem. i have had all fuses and wiring checked by an ase certified mechanic and he has come to the conclusion it could be the instrument cluster. i have researched on the internet that this seems to be a problem for chevrolet trailblazers. *tr

Speedometer quit working. it would freeze at 120+ mph. eventually it would work it's way back down to 0 mph and works when it wants. it accurate when it does work?? ac blower quit blowing in the front - blower module resistor replacement needed. seems to be popular complaint on this vehicle. ambient temperature sensor went out - affects inside temp w/ac as well. this went out 100 miles after warranty expired and dealer wouldn't fix under warranty. all of this of course after warranty expires. *tr

Speedometer reads 60 mph too high. has returned to normal one time but problem has happened again (original problem was too weeks ago.) tachometer also reads too high (3000 rpms) and has for several months. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the instrument cluster malfunctioned. the contact was unable to read the fuel gauge, speedometer, temperature gauge, and oil pressure gauge because they were no longer working. the contact called the dealer regarding the instrument cluster. the dealer stated that since the warranty had expired there was nothing they could do. the contact had not called the manufacturer. the contact stated that this was a safety issue and a manufacturers defect that needed to be addressed. the failure mileage was 94,000.

These speedometer ceases to work in cold weather. it will show 40 or even 80 mph when the vehicle it stopped at a stoplight. often when the vehicle is in motion the indicator is pointed at the odometer. this is a serious safety hazard. not knowing your actual speed is extremely dangerous. i have been told there was a recall for this but was told by a chevrolet dealer that i would have to pay for it. i looked on this website and did find one but i may have missed it, as i am new to this area of car ownership. *tr

Speedometer stuck on 60 then after shut off did right. did that several different times. now points to n or d and then starts going counter clockwise. don't have $500 to replace it. gm customer service acknowledged there is special bulletin on this but my vin nor mileage 71,000 mi did not fall within this bulletin. turned it over to "district manager" and he said same thing and said called my dealership and they couldn't help on this matter. there are numerous reports on internet of people having same problem with 2003 trailblazer. is safety hazard due to people like me who don't have the money (on retirement s.s.) and trying to guess at speed they are going. rpm on tach also fluctuates. i feel that to have the whole instrument panel replaced is a known defect on the makers part. *tr

I have a 2003 chevy trailblazer and about a year ago my speedometer started malfunctioning. after about two months or so it completely stopped working. then about a month ago the oil gage started malfunctioning. the speedometer would read incorrectly and when i stop it reads as if i were still driving, it doesn't go back to zero. the oil gage does the same thing when i turn of the car it doesn't go all the way back to where it needs to be. *tr

The back hatch latch will at times go for months, not locking with the inside lock & sometimes it even has to be shut 2-3 times for it to catch & latch shut. then for some reason it will seem to be ok. then it is right back to not locking & having to shut it hard 2-3 times to catch. when it will not lock with the inside lock, you can not even lock it with the key, the key will not turn completely so it is locked. i never know when it is locked until i check it manually i have at times though it is locked & when i come out of the store (or ???business work etc..) i check the back hatch & it has been unlocked the whole time i was away from the vehicle. i can't leave anything in it my jack, a tire, groceries, christmas anything, we can't take it on vacation, nothing is safe. this has happened over & over, at least 5-6 times over the years. and lasting from a couple of weeks, to several months at a time. it has been broken this time for over 6 months. i like the vehicle but all i get is flack from my husband because of the security issue. *tr

Driving on highway speedometer went above 100 mph then above 120 mph. now the needle is pointing straight down. *tr

Chevrolet trailblazer - instrument panel cluster failure. tachometer inoperative and erratic with only 42k miles on vehicle. understand that this is also a symptom for the remaining gauges in the cluster. *tr gm has special service bulletin that addresses this issue for all other truck products except envoy and trailblazer.

Speedometer failed during holiday trip . had cruise on when approach an intersection made turn when i checked speed it said 90 slowed down was almost rearended after that i realized what happened so i drove with flow of traffic .next day got on line did some research found out gm has this problem on several types of vehicles some recalled some not .as of now i disconnected battery for 15min.reconnected it and its working again. to replace the instrument panel is a 300 -700 dollar repair .doesn't seem fair because they should last the life of the vehicle . if a young driver or elderly driver were to have this problem on an interstate highway could cause a chain reaction accident countless injuries / deaths and property damage. gm knows of the problem why aren't they forced to fix it. goes back to the 2001 model year to present .the internet has probably thousands with this same issue. and couldn't access gms complaint site. *tr

Starting in november 2008 while living in minnesota, the instrument cluster on my 2003 chevy trailblazer started showing incorrect readings. first, the speedometer, then at one time or another, most of the gauges like fuel, temp, and oil pressure. the speedometer would read 100 mph with the car stopped. after winter, the gauges and speedometer returned to normal with only an occasional bad reading. i moved to florida in 2009, and went about six months with no issues, but starting summer of 2010, the erratic speedometer readings started again. i contacted chevy and was told a similar problem had been the subject of a recall for tahoes and other vehicles, but that the trailblazer was not included in the recall, and i would have to pay the +/- $700 repair bill myself. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving all of the lights and functions on the instrument panel stopped working. the vehicle was not inspected or repaired. the contact called the manufacturer who stated that they could offer him no assistance. the current mileage was approximately 35,000. the failure mileage was approximately 21,000. updated 1/19/2010 *cn the consumer stated the speedometer, tachometer and temperature gauge stopped working. updated 03/31/11

Gauges on instrument panel are not working properly. first one was speedometer then oil pressure gage and tachometer. i am sure more will follow. also electric seat no longer moves forward or backward. *tr

My tach started to not work in the cold of 07-08, then my oil pressure gauge started to peg out. now my speedometer is reading outrageous amounts when i am parked, or driving. it has not worked for months now. no replacement as of yet. *tr

My 2003 trailblazer ltz needs a speedometer cluster. this first started happening at approx. 59,000 miles. i now have 61,000 miles on my car, and gm refuses to have the repairs made to my car. it is a known problem on other chevy models, but gm claims there are not enough problems with the trailblazers to "fix" this problem. my estimate is $390.00 + tax after paying $106.00 for them to analyze the problem and tell me it is broken (which i knew because the speedometer reading 92 mph with the engine shut off in the dealership garage). i've contacted gm several times and the dealership, with no luck in getting this corrected. i've contacted the bbb also. this is a known problem, i've researched this, 100's of people have this same quality issue and it is a safety issue. as a loyal gm driver i want them to stand behind their products and fix known problems like this one. *tr

Originally, it began with the fuel gauge. every so often it would read incorrectly, both low and high. as it happened a little more often, i began asking around to find out if others i would meet had experienced the same type of defect, i found this to be a more common problem. as time passed i simply ignored the problem until after towing a few canoes up to a lake and the tachometer started reading very high, despite the motor idling normally. eventually, the tach went back to normal, but shortly after acted up again. all the while the fuel gauge is still not working properly, getting to the point where the needle is completely inverted. then the voltmeter began to climb, getting to the point where the needle is registering off the scale. so now the fuel gauge and the voltmeter are completely and obviously registering outside of their set parameters, but the tach is often suspect as well. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact observed while driving approximately 45 mph; the instrument cluster displayed an incorrect reading intermittently. in addition, the rpm remained incorrect and the speedometer showed a faulty reading. the failures occurred at any speed rate. the vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the current mileage was 69,488. the failure mileage was 65,000.

While using the cruise control of my 2003 chevy trailblazer, the speedometer begins to read erratically. sometimes, it is obviously wrong, but it also slowly creeps to a different speed without noticing it. also the cruise control seems to follow with the speedometer whether or not it is reading correctly. *tr

Instrument panel failure. 3 of 6 gauges do not work was told around 600.00 to fix. one of numerous issues with 2003 trailblazer including tail light issue, head light and 4 wheel drive problems. has aprox 76,000 miles now. *tr

3 months ago i started having problems with my speedometer. i would be sitting still and it would be reading 50 mph. this would occur often. i took the vehicle to the garage and they replaced the speed sensor and this did not correct the problem and i was informed that i would have to take the vehicle to gm dealer because this was something they could not fix since it involved the cluster guage. now this guage is resting any where between 100 and 120 mph. this is a big safety issue and gm needs to address the problem. i have been doing alot of research and see that i am not aone in this problem wih the speedometer. *tr

Speedometer stop working on chevy trailblazer with only 45,000 miles on it. *tr

I own a 2003 chevy trailblazer and i've replaced alternator but the lights still seem to dim and flicker. this is a safety issue and must be looked at by the makers and the dealer. i recommend a recall or replacement of faulty equipment. as i look on forums this seems to be a common problem with this particular vehicle. *tr

Speedometer on our 2003 chevrolet trailblazer started acting erratically--never going down to zero, going up to 80 or above for no reason, etc.--about 2 years ago. in a matter of weeks, after the first onset of the problem, it stopped working altogether and has not moved above zero since. we were told that the whole instrument cluster would have to be replaced to fix the issue with the speedometer. luckily, all of the other gauges are still functioning properly as of right now but from what i have found in my research of this issue it seems to be only a matter of time before they all will cease to function properly as well. i have seen and read many reports about this problem but i am sure it would be safe to say that there are many more instances that have gone unreported. please look into this very serious safety issue as soon as possible. it does not seem likely or merely coincidental that so many trailblazers are experiencing the very same instrument cluster failure. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet trailblazer. she smelled fuel fumes coming through the air vents of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer , and the fuel tank was replaced. the repair did not remedy the failure. secondly the head-lights fail while driving. lastly, the lighting of the instrument control panel was inoperative. she contacted the gm manufacturer, and was referred back to the dealer. the vehicle has been taken to several dealers, but the failures have not been remedied. the failure mileage was 7,300. the vehicle identification number was unavailable.

2003 chevrolet trailblazer speedometer failure problem started at about 40,000 miles intermittent, now with 60,000 miles has completely failed. estimate for repair is $600.00. *tr

Speedometer quits working after short travel distance. it happens everytime i travel for 10-20 mins. i know i'm traveling at 55mph but it reads 20mph or so. *tr

The motors on the gauge cluster start to fail around 50k miles. mine is failing right now with 51k miles causing a false reading on the speedometer. after a short time on the road the speedometer starts to lose speed with out lifting off the gas pedal. after a 1/2 hr on the road doing(atleast i think) 65mph it will read that i am doing only 20-30 mph.. *tr

My 2003 chevy trailblazers speedometer doesn't work anymore. the lights on the dash and tail lights on the drivers side won't work anymore. gm says they don't have enough complaints to do anything about the problem. there are recalls on other models around the same year with the same problem but no recall on the trailblazer yet.

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the speedometer was failing. while driving 50 mph, the speedometer displayed 120 mph. when the vehicle came to a complete stop, the speedometer displayed 60 mph. the gm dealer stated that a diagnostic was needed to determine the cause of the failure. the failure mileage was 72,000.

The instrument panel goes haywire when car in operation. the speedometer will not show correct speed. the tachometer will not operate at all. these problem are intermittent. i have not had the problem fixed because i am hoping this will be covered by a recall through gm. *tr

2003 chevrolet trailblazer speedometer stuck...received recall letter for 2004 silverado....why not 2003 trailblazer? there have been tons of problems from researching on the net. *tr
