I own a 2002 chevy trailblazer and i have had my headlights checked because not always but once in a while they just completely turn off sometimes at night time while driving. i took it in to a repair shop and nothing was found wrong with it but the problem continues i have to have headlights and brake lights changed like every month or so my truck one day didn't turn on couldn't figure out what was wrong with it sat in my garage for about 3 days and everyday i would try to turn it on but nothing after the 3rd day went and tried again it came on without a problem and it's been okay just the problem with my headlights still going off at night once in a while. i know 2 other people who have 2002 chevy trailblazers and have had kind of the same problems. i believe that their is an electrical problem with the 2002 chevy trailblazers. *tr
The electronic sensors and key fob to open and lock the vehicle do not work, causing serious problems because the rear tailgate door will not unlock manually and all of the emergency equipment is stored under the carpet in the tail section. this problem started in cold weather and even replacing the batteries in the key fob didn't work. this is serious in cold weather for emergencies ie, cables to jump the car and flares are stored in the back of vehicle. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the key fob sensor failed to open the power doors. this presents a hazard because there is no manual key entry for the doors. the failure occurs in cold weather conditions. the dealer stated that the repair was under warranty and will be repaired. they will replace the sensor and check the wiring in the vehicle. the failure mileage was 39,200 and current mileage was 39,620. updated 03/09/09. *lj the rear wiper was inopertive. updated 03/12/09. *jb
When i touch the buttons on my radio they get very very hot. their is a long list of things wrong with this 2002 chevy trail blazer. but when i contacted chevy they told my that my suv is not one of the ones affected? their is a noise in the front and the right side of the truck seems lower, like a shock is broken? the rear windshield wiper never worked. the air conditioning only work on the highest level ( 5 ). the rear tailgate never locks when you hit the power locks. the tape player starts on its own, and will blow a fuse causing an electrical smell. the day i bought the 2002 chevy trail blazer the head gasket blew and the dealership replaced it with a used head gasket. this suv has alot of issues and is getting unsafe to drive. i have tried to have chevrolet address these issues but they wont fix anything without me paying for them. i am on a tight budget, and i have seen alot of recalls with these issues that i have described. shouldn't they fix these things free of charge? please help! *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet trailblazer. the electrical control module in the driver's side door is defective and must be reprogrammed. the mirrors, locks, and seats must be readjusted whenever the vehicle is started. on one occasion, the passenger side window would not roll up. the contact stated that the module was very inconsistent regarding adjustments. the repair costs were very expensive, but the failure still occurs. the failure mileage was 73,000 and current mileage was 76,811. updated 8/7/09 *cn the driver side window was stuck for over 8 months. updated 08/11/09.*jb
i approached a stop light. as i stopped, the whole car shut down. i turned the ignition "off", put the car in "park", and turned the "ignition switch" to restart the vehicle. it did start. a couple days later the same thing happened. i took it to my dealer on sept. 15 2008.they asked if i had a lot of stuff hanging on the key ring, i did not. they replaced the ignition switch. on jan. 21, 2011 , i was driving, and, after stopping, the car was running but would not engage (move). had the car towed to dealership. they again replaced the ignition switch and another switch. on feb. 11, 2011, i was at a "drive-up" window, my car just quit running. i had to push it off to the side and have it towed to the dealer. this time they again replaced the "ignition switch" along with a transfer case switch and a transfer case module. they said they had to replace all of them since there was no way to know for sure if it was still related to the "ignition switch". i feel all my issues were relate to the "ignition switch", and all repairs should have been paid by gm.they new they had an issue, or the dealer would not have asked about "excess weight hanging on the key fob".. i believe the "ignition switch issue" goes back farther, and affects even more models, than they are currently owning up to. i still have all paperwork pertaining to my repairs. *tr
Chevrolet dealer began recall repairs but gm filed bankruptcy and dealer refused to repair citing inability to get paid by gm for recall, returning the vehicle to me unrepaired. next dealer said records showed repairs were completed. they were not.
I have a 2002 chevy trailblazer. when i press on the accelerator the vehicle will lose power for a moment and regain power in heavy traffic. also, the service engine light will come on. i took this vehicle to a service center and they say that the engine is running rich and running lean. the service center told me to use the rest of the gas in my tank and refill my tank with new gas at a well known gas station. i did as the service center requested by filling at exxon, but the problem with the vehicle did not change. this vehicle has been doing this for 3 months with 80,000 miles. i believe that there is a electrical issue somewhere in my vehicle. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet trailblazer. if the contact does not unhook the battery post each night, the vehicle will not start in the mornings. she purchased a new battery, but the failure persists. the front passenger side of the vehicle near the tire makes a roaring sound intermittently. neither weather nor speed were factors. the contact believes that the gas tank is leaking fuel because it is burning more fuel. the vehicle was not taken to a chevrolet dealer, but was taken to the dealer from where the vehicle was purchased. the mechanic stated that the vehicle was experiencing electrical failure and should be taken to the dealer. the contact was informed that the following nhtsa campaign id numbers did not apply to her vin: 01v126000 (suspension:front:control arm:lower arm), 03v096000 (electrical system:wiring:interior/under dash), and 02v121000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings). the current mileage was 165,000 and failure mileage was 150,000.
The electrical gauges on our 2002 chevy trailblazer did not function properly when the fan clutch failed, leading to engine overheating. the overheated engine blew the head gasket before the engine itself blew up. my husband was had just backed out of the driveway and had driven about 200 yards when this happened. it is important to note that warning systems malfunctioned: there were no lights, bells or any indication that complete engine failure was imminent. there wasn't even the odor of an overheated engine. if this had happened on our local freeway i could be suing gm over my husband's injury or death. *tr
The speedometer no longer displays the correct speed. it will still display the speed but is very different than the actual speed of the vehicle. when the vehicle is in park the needle will be well below 0. *tr
Remotes quit working, liftgate would not open, rear wiper not working. i had this issue back in may '05 and replaced engate module. same issues occurring again. i am sure i will have to replace engate module again. *tr
Transmission has failed at 55,000 miles, not driving car but was about to run errands. have had to replace power steering block, alternator, starter, tail lights, instrument panel, radio and electric on a car that is just over 5 years old. the instrument panel, power steering block and transmission are all not under warranty. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving 20 mph, the electronic gauges began to flash off and on. the contact also stated that the speedometer went from zero, to top speed, and then back to zero. the passenger side air bag deployed without warning as well. the vehicle was towed to the dealer, but they cannot repair the vehicle due to liability reasons. the current and failure mileages were 85,000.
I own a 2002 chevy trailblazer ltz. the problem that i'm having is that the driver side mirror loses its memory and always needs adjusting when starting up the vehicle and even while driving!!! i have done everything that the manual suggest and even took it to the dealership twice to have it worked on. the problem came back and is still present. i think that this is a huge safety matter for the fact that the mirror moves on its own while i'm driving the vehicle. i hope something is done about this in the near future. thanks. *jb
I jim emmert have had my trailbazer in the shop more times then i care to remember for all electrical lights not working changing clusters & tail lens . i have had two dealers look and post to have fixed the problems and still haven't. i have spent at least 2,000 dollars and do you know what the manager said don't bring it back take it somewhere else? *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet trailblazer. the dashboard panel illuminated intermittently. the failure prevented the dashboard from displaying the speedometer and tachometer. occasionally, the tachometer and speedometer displayed incorrect speeds. the dealer stated that the vehicle needed an instrument panel cluster, and mentioned recall # 03v096000 for the electrical system: wiring: interior/under dash. although this vehicle was excluded from the recall, the contact did not feel obligated to pay for the repairs since general motors was aware of the recall. the current mileage was 72,449 , and failure mileage was 71,000.*ak
Tl*- the contact stated that while driving the 2002 chevrolet trailblazer at 60 mph she smelled ammonia and eventually she smelled smoke. the contact stated she did not see smoke until she pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road. the contact stated approximately three minutes after exiting the vehicle she saw a fire underneath the steering wheel. the fire department informed the contact the cause of the fire was an electrical problem underneath the steering inside the dash board. the vehicle was unable to be driven. the contact stated her insurance company inspected the vehicle. the vehicle currently had 94000 miles. *ak consumer provided pictures of the damaged vehicle and incident report. update 4/9 *tr
I live in southwest ohio and i own a 2002 trailblazer. i noticed that in december of 2006, my rear windshield wiper would not function when turned on. shortly thereafter, we had our first frost and i noticed that the rear defogger/defroster was not working. it is now nearly 0 degrees outside and even if i clean the window with a scraper, it still frosts up while driving. i have looked for a fuse to replace, but find none for the rear defrost, and the one for the rear wiper is fine. just yesterday, i picked up some large items at a home improvement store and was unable to unlock the rear gate, i tried to use the button on my remote, to which the car no longer responds, even with new battery, i tried to unlock it from the driver side controls with the car off and turned on, but nothing happened. so there me and my pregnant wife were standing in zero temperature weather with three large items on a cart and nowhere to go with them. we ended up paying somebody to haul them to our house. *nm
2002 chevrolet trailblazer with problems with car radio customer wants reimbursement for repairs**cc some type of electrical problem caused a loud pop to come through the speakers. the caused the radio to short out and the speakers to blow. the radio and speakers had been replaced several times. the amplifier also had to be replaced. the vehicle has been taken to the dealer on numerous occasions but they have been unable to correct the problem. the middle seat belt in the second row locked up as soon as it was fastened into the buckle. when the defroster was used the consumer heard a clicking noise. the dealer replaced the mode actuator and mode valve per tsb 04-01-38-002. the quarter panel on the roof seam sealer cracked and was rusted. the pull down strap on the rear hatch broke. the sway bar broke. a grinding noise was heard coming from the left front wheel when making sharp left turn. the dealer determined that suspension was misaligned and caused shield to touch rotor. the instrument cluster gauge was inoperative. the rear wiper did not touch the rear windshield. there was a high pitched noise coming from the right side tire whenever in motion. the dealer indicated it was improperly sealed. *nm
We bought the vehicle in 2004-2005, about a year later the instrument panel started having some intermittent problems, that's when we found out about the recalls. we took the vehicle to the local dealer (airport chevrolet) where the repairs were made. about a year later the instrument panel started having the same problems, i took it back into the dealer, they said it would cost me about $500 to have it fixed and it would not be covered under the recall. i contacted chevy by email, and after a couple of months of emailing back and forth they said "they have to draw the line on age and mileage for the recall". i told them i was going to contact my attorney, they said they did not want to hear anything more about it and not to email again. since then we have driven the vehicle, the more we drive it, the more something else, electrical, goes wrong. i.e. the rear wiper does not work, the cooling/heating fan does not work, the radio/cd player gets really hot, the last thing that happened was the battery got fried and my cell phone while plugged into the cig liter for recharge almost got fried, almost too hot to touch. so i am paying monthly payments for a vehicle i can not drive. *tr
Tl* - the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet trailblazer. the transmission was slipping gears. the contact stated that he had the original transmission replaced at 8000 mile by an authorized dealer, and now was experiencing the same difficulty with the gears slipping down speeds ,and the transmission not engaging. the contact said that this happened often at 45 mph, and the weather has not been a factor. the contact stated that instrument panel lights turned off for a day on 1-3-07, and when the instrument panel lights turned back on the air bag light stayed on. he has had the vehicle fixed three times for the instrument panel lights turning on and off. *ak
It all started around 40,000 miles i have had all interior problems. i have one speaker in my car that works, sometimes if i am lucky they all will come one but not. i have a light behind my temp. control that comes on and off when it want to, and now of all my head lights and day lamps work when they want to. i was told that the car has faulty wires (as if) and i bought this car for what to buy another car in after four years (no). they say you pay for what you get well i have put more into it than what i have got (head pain)! i almost got hit not knowing i had no lights. and got pulled over once! now i have to pay to have my car inspected to find the wire defect and then get it fixed (the car is not worth it). *nm
2002 chevrolet trailblazer left low beam bulb stopped functioning. when i replaced it i found that the connector was black and melted. the replacement connector was significantly more robust. *jb
Dt*: the contact stated the instrument panel was inoperable. there was a nhtsa recall, #03v096000, regarding the electrical; wiring; interior/under dash. the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the vin.
2002 chevy trailblazer while starting the vehicle, the key has been turned completely in the ignition, a fast, continuous clicking noise will start. (kind of sounds like a detonation device) sounds like it is coming from somewhere in the dash. relay sensor? overhead lights turn on and off without prompting. while driving, the inside lights flicker on and of. when car is parked and off, inside overhead lights are off - several hours later, return to find inside overhead light(s) on - car was locked. fast clicking noise is made for several seconds when the air conditioner setting is changed from one setting to another. in example: clicking noise will start when you turn the dial to change from feet and mid body air, to feet air only. *jb
Exterior side mirrors with memory option fail to return to set position when key is inserted in ignition. mirrors have to be reset almost every time key is inserted in ignition. dealer re-programmed mirrors. but problem still exists. dangerous because if you don't notice mirrors have moved and you go to make lane change in emergency mirrors could be out of adjustment causing increased time to change lanes. *nm
I was going down the highway. i stopped at a gas station for a cup of coffee with my sister and 3 year old daughter. when i went to put my daughter in the car i noticed smoke coming up from under the plastic part in the back seat on the door part. i saw something spark and took the casing off and then it sparked again and it flamed some everytime i blow it out it would spark again. i got the wires off the metal from the door and the one wire came apart. the plastic that is covering the wires was melted off and the tape that was over that was also melted off. i took it to the dealer in nazareth pa to get it looked at. they had to replace 4 wires and 3 fuses. it cost me $100.00 to fix. gm called me and said there was nothing they could do because i already had it fixed and that they said it was not that serious. i told him that if i didn't go get coffee and didn't notice the smoke it could have been worse then it was and that my 3 year old daughter was in the back seat. he said he was sorry but there was nothing that he could do and he was glad no one was hurt. the person that i talked to was joe garcia # 8667905700 ext. 21260 case # 1-415496321. it is not about the money having it fixed it was the point that they said it was nothing. *nm
I have a 2002 chevy trailblazer. my inside lights have stopped working and i assumed that is was due to a blown fuse. i took it to the chevy dealer ship and they stated that i may have a wiring problem. the wire the connects to my headlight burns out easily and my bulbs for my taillight has to be replaced often. can you please assist. i have to replace the head light wiring several time and have to replace the tail light bulbs. the problem started several years ago. the last time that i had to replace a part was december of 2009. *tr

The radio randomly changes station while driving, sometimes repeatedly. often it appears that this is related to turning as if something in the steering column is affecting this. this function is distracting to the driver. *nm
Two years ago the liftgate when closing would not lock and remote lock key fob failed to work. dashlight indicated that tailgate was ajar and dome lights remained on. in the last year the controls on the driver' s door quit working. the power locks, windows, and side mirror controls did not work. rear defroster will not work. no parts have been replaced because dealerships will not do it for free. i could not afford to fix this problem. very frustrating.....first new vehicle, and it will be my one and only chevrolet. i will no longer purchase from gm due to their lack of willingness to fix a problem that they were aware existed in many vehicles. *ak
Tl*the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the instrument panel cluster fails to work properly on occasion. as a result, most of the gauges and the tail lights do not work, with the exception of the service engine light, turn signal indicators, and the instrument panel cluster back-lighting. the manufacturer stated that the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign id number 03v096000 (electrical system:wiring:interior/under dash). the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 50,000 and current mileage was 98,000. updated 07/10/09. *lj when the electrical systems shut down, it affected the gauges as well. the defroster would not operate on high and the rear wipers failed at times. the consumer stated after he disconnected the battery and re-tested it, everything worked fine. updated 07/10/09.*jb

Purchased new 2002 trailblazer ltz which has had this problem since 2005. driver & passenger mirrors position themselves erratically at every ignition and sometimes while driving. a constant twitching on the passenger side also occurs while driving. it is very dangerous when mirrors are not positioned correctly once driving. chevrolet dealer failed to find the fault and reprogrammed twice. no parts have been replaced as they have now idea what the problem is or how to fix it. this seems to be a common problem, however. *tr
A spark plug has pop out of the engine while waiting at an intersection control by a traffic light. the vehicle was towed to a repair shop. the cause of this problem has not been determined at this time.*ak
It has the "memory" mirror option which includes featuring memory set options for driver 1 and driver 2, as well as rearview curb assistance (the mirrors will tilt down to your setting to help parallel park when in reverse).the mirrors quit holding their memory, causing me once again to have to reset the mirrors every time i got in the car. on numerous occasions, i thought my mirrors were reset, and then i would look to change lanes and find my mirror tilted up towards the sky or some erratic place. not to mention the safety issue, but it has been an extreme annoyance. went to the dealer multiple times and they "reset" the mirrors, but they don't know the cause. *tr

2002 chevy trailblazer. when you go to start the vehicle and if the vehicle has a dead battery, you can not remove the key from the ignition. the ignition locks up and you can't remove the key. i guess this is actually part of the anti-theft devices. this is very unsafe in that if you have to go to seek help. the car is unlocked with the key in the ignition. *nm
Went out in a.m. to start vehicle and turn the key over to hear nothing and no start. no prior warning, tried to jump start, no success, towed to chevy dealership to find out the diagnosis was the ignition switch was bad. *nm
Tl*the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the brake lights in his vehicle were completely inoperative. the dealer replaced the brake lights, but the failure recurred. in 2005, the instrument panel made a clicking sound and sporadically failed. the contact believed that the failure was directly related to the brake lights. the dealer stated that the instrument panel failed and the contact paid to have it corrected. in 2008, the instrument panel failed again and completely stopped working in january of 2009. he spoke with two different mechanics and they stated that there was a recall for the failure. the manufacturer stated that the vehicle had been previously repaired according to nhtsa campaign id number 03v096000 (electrical system:wiring:interior/under dash); therefore, they could not assist. the current mileage was approximately 170,000 and failure mileage was approximately 113,000.
The front door controls are inoperable!! no windows, no locks, can't use my remote lock and alarm. the part is $200 and only available at a dealership. i tried to get one from a junk yard, and was told they have no trailblazer doors because of this very problem. i also called several dealerships in the area, and they are fully aware of this problem also, and don't understand why it hasn't been recalled. everyone wants to diagnose the problem, and i cannot afford the many hours they want to spend on my 2002 vehicle. i have already had to replace the front wheel bearings (at $400 each just for parts), which i should not have had to do yet!!! if the dealerships and junkyards are aware of my door problem, why aren't you? not being able to roll down my windows or use my alarm are definitely issues in my book!!! *nm
Dt: contact bought a 2002 trail blazer in 2004. contact complained about electrical problems. brake lights/headlights/ 4-wheel switch , and blower switch went out. on 12-720-04 she started having transmission problems. it started grinding when she put in fourth gear. when she took vehicle to the dealer ,they told her that gears were faulty. when she put vehicle in 4-wheel drive, it broke. she had it repaired, and then the headlights went off because the headlight switch burned out. then she had a new actuator put on it and a month later, she had to have another actuator put in. on 7-20-05 while driving, the 4-wheel drive switch came on, and was switching between 2-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive. vehicle stopped, and she put it in 4-wheel drive. went back to the dealer, who told consumer differential failed. before she could drive home the transfer case module went out. the name of the dealer where she has been taking the car was gillelands at 3019 division street, st. cloud, mn 56301.*ak in addition to all the vehicle's problems, the sunroof was broken and the sway bar links were loose. *tt
I brought this car on august 14, 2004. at 2 months the vehicle stop working. i call the dealership and told them what was happening. they told me that it was a battery problem and the insurance i had got with them did not cover it. so then i decided to purchase a insurance that would cover that. they charged me one thousand dollars. later they called me to tell me that i did not qualified for the insurance. they didn't return me the one thousand dollars i had gave them. since the beginning the sales person lied to me. he told me that the vehicle was 2003 but it is really a 2002. the transmission to my vehicle does not work. i want to cancel the purchase of this car. *jb
2002 trailblazer acted like transmission going out, took to dealer they upgraded computer. front right low beam wired burned and melted, took to dealer they wanted to charge 250.00 plus labor for light assembly when all it needed was a piggy plug, bought plug at napa and fixed myself. never have had two back lights working at same time... cant take to dealer to get the recall work because it seems that these vehicles are using a "weak" oil pump and my trailblazer has been in shop for last month or more waiting to be fixed. the weak oil pump caused damage to rod bearings, main bearings, and crankshaft. gm says out of warranty and my customer service specialist said "i'm sorry" about 10 times but she was still closing my folder and marking dissatisfied. she can't help me because i'm out of warranty. i hate this vehicle. i have found quite a few recalls but can't do most because its in the shop. i never got any recall notices.*ak
