Problems with 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 POWER TRAIN

On average, the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 starts to “feel” problems with the POWER TRAIN and its various aspects after 23 729 miles.

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I bought a brand new 2016 silverado in 2016 and have put 72000 (highway) miles on it. took it in to my local chevy dealership because of a transmission shudder and hesitating while accelerating and whine right before shifting to the next gear. torque converter is failing sending metal shavings through my transmission and destroying it. a bill of greater than 5500 for this transmission is absurd but not as crazy as a 3 year old transmission failing on you.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving various speeds, the transmission would not shift properly. the failure was more evident while downshifting. also, while turning, the rear wheels would randomly seize. the cause of the failures were not determined. in addition, the rear driver's door would not lock. bowser chevrolet (201 7th ave, beaver falls, pa) stated that the door lock actuator was faulty and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 70,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact purchased the vehicle three months ago and stated that the air conditioning failed. the vehicle was taken to herrin-gear chevrolet (1685 high st, jackson, ms 39202, (601) 376-9944) and was informed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

Transmission failure on the highway

Transmission shifts violently at times. feels as if something ran into the truck and scares you when it happens.

I was driving down highway when engine lost power and stopped. it was transported to dealership. the fuel injectors, fuel rails , and catalytic converter need to be replaced.

The transmission shutters, radles, and pings upon light acceleration. it has a delay before down shifting, it occasionally makes a loud clunk when putting into drive i dont know if the afm has part in these issues. if you drive with hard acceleration then it only pings sometimes and kind of sounds like an older 80 model v8 with a timing knock. this truck only has 28k miles on it and it had been doing it for the last 6k miles. if you manually shift the transmission it limits the issue.

I had just gotten home after visiting my parents which is approximately 100 miles (1 hour and 45 minutes) away from my house and i had no issues on the highway with my brakes. the drive was mostly all highway with an average speed limit of 65 and 75 mph. i went to park my truck at my house in which i back into my parking spot at home. when i went to stop, my truck's brakes worked properly but when i put it in reverse to back into the spot, that is when i went to go break, the brakes needed more force applied to the pedal in order to stop the vehicle. i then put my truck into drive to see if the problem was only when the vehicle was in reverse or all the time. i drove it a few feet forwards and back a few times and the problem persisted. general motors has issued a document (pit5361d) regarding this issue but has not issued a recall. a new vacuum pump was installed by the dealer which resolved the issue but was not covered under warranty.

Vehicle vibrates and shakes significantly between 60-75 mph. has been ongoing since january 2019, two months after purchasing used vehicle from dealership. current mileage is just over 52k. there are numerous people with same year, make, and model having the same issue.

The first set of brake pads were gm replacement, they did not stop the truck as well as the original. so i replaced the pads with raybestos brake pads, still not satisfied with the stopping distance. again i went with napa ceramic pads they caused the breaks to squeal when the brakes were applied. now my mechanic has replaced them with o relly name pads and the stopping distance is still increasing. the other problem was around 58,000 miles my truck began shifting hard and jerking. when i took it to deacon jones chevrolet in smithfield nc, they replaced the torque converter at no charge. now at 63,000 miles its doing the same thing. gm states even if they replaced the part the warranty only covers to 60,000. miles. when asked about the part warranty same response 60,000 miles. checking with several mechanics in the area and on line both incidences seems to be a reoccurring problem for people who own trucks of this period. please check into this.

I have a 2016 silverado 1500 that having trouble with my breaks and powertrain. i try to stop the other day and the pedal got stiff and wasnt able to come to a complete almost hitting a pedestrian. its been going on for awhile too. and my powertrain when i in the street or highway going 60mph it tends to shoot the rpms n go down and like the transmission want to shift down on its own.

I was driving and the rpm goes up and down. its been doing it for awhile now. ill he driving down the road and well shift gears or having trouble shifting gears. it does between going 60 to 80 mph. sometimes i fear it might shift gears and get hit or lose control.

Transmission is jerky, and dealership says it's not safe to drive. faulty transmission wiring harness and heat sensor. truck has been at dealership for 18 days and gm has no estimate as to when the wiring harness will be available. i'm paying for a 50k truck and paying for a rental with no end in sight. should be a recall, service tech at dealership told me the part was being 're-tooled'

Brake vacuum pump issues dealers aware of issue & have an updated vacuum pump available. transmission issues were it down shifts hard at times & has a bad shattering when upshisting at low speeds took it 2 times before warranty expired said was just a software update. never took care of issue.

I eased the vehicle into the parking space, released the gas pedal, and it surged/jumped forward. my vehicle pushed the other vehicle in opposite parking space about a foot, causing damage to both vehicles.

At times when slowing to a stop the vehicle jumps forward before stopping. when making slow turns, like in a parking lot, the vehicle will jump forward or lag sometime when shifting gears.

Driving at 35mph , suddenly car would not accelerate, upon giving gas would not pick up speed, only rpm kept going high, the yellow check ingine symbol came on.towed to a delaership, casing broken between 4th,5th,6th gear broken.

When driving truck especially while cold shifting extremely hard and also making a clunk when comint to a stop like the u-joint is bad or slack in the rear end took truck to chevrolet at least 6 times they calibrated the gears replaced the control module and the truck continued to do the same thing i finally got fed up with it and traded it in on a 2017 now i am already hearing and feeling the clunk when i stop this will be my last chevrolet!!!!!!!

Transmission shudder occurred at highway speeds in september 2017. gm technicians said they could not find it. shudder spread to all speeds - especially at low speeds going uphill. truck would lurch forward from gear to gear and generally run with a constant vibration. in december 2017 gm technician replicated the problem and diagnosed it as a malfunctioning torque converter. i am now waiting for the new parts to see if the problem is fixed. the truck had no transmission shudder problems for the 1st 12 months i owned it.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet silverado 1500. while operating on an incline, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to respond. the failure occurred without warning. kenny ross chevrolet buick gmc (located at 11250 us-30, north huntington, pa) was contacted and updated the software and transmission. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 18,025.

Ever since i purchased my truck in early 2017, the 8 speed automatic transmission shift from 1st to 2nd gear at low speeds has been extremely hard. it changes so hard, it feels like someone struck my truck from behind, and shakes the entire vehicle. this hard shift will take place on an upshift and downshift. on the downshift, my truck will lerch forward, concerning me that i may strike another vehicle unintentionally. i have taken the vehicle to the dealership regarding the problem on at least 5 different occasions. the last occasion, the chief mechanic called me and said it is a known problem, and chevrolet has no intention of fixing it. he explained it involved the torque converter, and chevrolet has moved on from that transmission. he also stated that my transmission should not be damaged from the shift. one service rep. stated to me that my warranty is good for 100,000 miles, so don't worry. how can i drive a vehicle, when passengers become frightened from the hard shift. most recently it has started to shudder through the first few gears and is extremely bothersome to drive. the dealership has made it clear that chevrolet has no intention on fixing the "known" problem, which is dangerous. i have service records upon request.

Transmission will make a hard shift sometimes, mostly at low speeds and light trottle. feels like you just hit a large pothole.

Purchased truck in february 2017 new had 100 miles on it now has 4435 miles on it now it's been in the dealer 3 times for vibration itso going back for a 4th time for theveryone same issue been to 2 different dealers has had 1 tire replaced on right front and 1 rim replaced on right rear still have vibration issue the the dealer is purchased it at said there's nothing wrong with it took to 2nd dealer they found the issues with it it still has vibration at 55 mph to 70 mph and developed a bad vibration at idle when in park and gm is involved

I purchased a 2016 silverado lt leftover in feb of 2017 with 44 miles on it. i noticed a vibration while accelerating and deceleration and at about 70-80 mph. i figured it was the gm factory 22 inch rally 2 edition wheels being in balanced and since i was changing the wheels and tires at 1000 miles anyway i figured it would go away. since putting on the new tires and wheels the problem is still there and i have had it at a gm dealer twice and my third appointment in on 4-5-17 at a different dealer since the first one does not seem to believe me when i said it was happening with the stock wheels and tires. this makes driving a 50 plus thousand truck not enjoyable at all.

The truck has a vibration issue that my chevy dealer can not correct. tires have been balanced. still have the issue. they installed 4 new tires and rims and still have the vibration.

While driving the transmission clunks into gear many times. it will clunk into gear when down shifting and upshifting and almost feels like a bad u joint but its the transmission. feels very sloppy. i had chevrolet look at it twice and was told that according to gm thats the way its supposed to be and the they all shift like that. the service tech told me that its obviously not right yet gm refuses to acknowledge the problem and he has many customers complaining.

I have had this hard jerking and slamming of my transmission in my truck since i purchased it brand new. it occurs when going from reverse to drive it will hesitate and not go into gear and then it slams and jerks the vehicle violently with a aloud crack noise of the gears slamming together. it also occurs when i am in between the speed of 40-50 mph. i will be driving down the road and the truck will slam into gear while driving. it also had a very high idol and shakes the truck. i have brought my truck into the chevrolet dealership for these issue 5+ times now and contacts the gm to help get my issue solved and they just can't not fix the issue. i don't want to get stranded with my family if the transmission decided to break or cause trouble. i have had multiple occurrences of this issue happening.

Steady driving between 35 and 65 mph, the truck shudders and the rpm tach needle jumps. it does not do it while shifting but when running at a steady speed. my 4th time at the dealership and they are only focused on the vibration of the truck and are now replacing the third tire. i agree the vibration is bad but the shuddering is ridiculous. there is a technical bulletin for the silverado with the 6.2 transmission with the exact same issues. i called the service tech who has my truck and he said "your truck doesn't have that transmission." i said "i realize that rich...however it is the same issue." he said as soon as they get the new tire in they are going to test drive it some more. did i mention they have had it five days this time and they still don't have a tire. also...according to the technical bulletin #pip5337d, the shudder is torque converter. *tr

Truck has vibration at 70 mph and upwards from rear of vehicle when on interstate - feels like a driveline vibration. can be felt in the seat and not through steering wheel. vibration at times is severe and other times minor or non-existent. dealer keeps blaming tire/wheel balance but they are in spec (verified by third party tire dealer). concern that vibration will cause control issues or something to break while traveling at higher speeds. this vibration has been present in the vehicle since new.

I am having an issue with my new 2016 silverado and a vibration at highway speeds. i took the truck back to the dealer where it was purchased with around 340 miles on it. i was told they could do nothing until i had 1000 miles on the truck (they stated they could not get paid by chevy for warranty items). that ticket stated they rebalanced my tires. this had no change. i took the truck back after 1000 miles. the dealer did a road force balance. this helped very little. now, at 1345 miles, it is back in the shop. they state they will do a picoscope on the truck and check the axle. i should mention the underlying issue is a vibration that can be felt at speeds in excess of 65-70mph. it is more prevalent from 70-75mph. i have filed a complaint with gm, reference case 82405350103. this appears to be the same issue for the 2014-2015 models referred to as the "chevy shake". one more attempt and i will likely start lemon law procedures in ga. i would like someone to seriously investigate gm on this complaint. there are plenty of forums with people complaining about the same issue. this could be an extremely dangerous issue if it is tire or wheel related, or even drive shaft related. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving 85 mph, there was an uncontrollable vibration coming from underneath the vehicle near the transmission. on several occasions, while driving various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to slow down or stop the vehicle. the contact stated that the vehicle occasionally also pulled to the left or the right when the brake pedal was depressed. furthermore, while driving, the vehicle stalled and shut off on four separate occasions. the contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts. the vehicle was taken to wommack chevrolet (currently known as north park chevrolet castroville, located at 1955 us-90, castroville, tx 78009, (830) 931-9200) where it was diagnosed that the brake calipers, brake pads, brake lines, and torque converter needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the contact was advised to turn off the abs and traction control and the vehicle would perform better; however, the contact refused. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the contact was provided case number: 84425679432. the approximate failure mileage was 6,967. *tt*jb *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet silverado 1500. while attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle failed to accelerate. the contact coasted into a parking lot and noticed that the front passenger side axle independently shifted to the rear of the chassis, which potentially caused a spark to the tires. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 4,000.

Vehicle shakes at speeds above 60 mph. the shake is in the vehicle and not in the steering wheel. tires have all been replaced under warranty and problem still exists. vehicle has approximately 1,200 miles on it and problem has been apparent from initial purchase. vehicle has now been to dealership 3 times for approximately 10 days in total.

This vehicle (2016 silverado) has all the characteristics associated with the "chevy shake", an unresolvable driveline under seat vibration that is very severe at times. gm has issued service bulletin pi1354c which i followed at my expense to reduce / eliminate the severe shake that occurs at speeds of 69 ' 79 mph with no improvement. i believe it is a safety matter when a vehicle shakes to the extent of driver distraction and there are dangers associated with the long term effect on safety components that are subject severe shaking that they wouldn't otherwise be subjected to under normal durability testing. i do not feel "in control" while driving the vehicle when the severe shaking occurs at 69mph. i believe that since this is an ongoing build issue with thousands of documented complaints gm should be held accountable to determine the cause and provide relief to gm truck owners.

Transmission has hard shifting from starting position, while driving and slowing down. 50% of the time you can hear a clunking when hard down shifting. i have had the dealer look into this over 6 times already, and on one occasion it had been "reprogrammed" and on one occasion a part had been changed. it still continues to shift hard as noted above. odometer as of 4/5/19 is 17,093. have service scheduled for april 8 2019 for shifting issue and motor oil change.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving unknown speeds, the accelerator pedal was applied, but failed to respond. additionally, the gear shifter failed to engage into gear and the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer (quirk chevrolet, 1000 brighton ave, portland, me 04102) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be reprogrammed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 300.

The 2016 silverado has a programming issue for the transmission. when i drive under a load going up a hill it chugs like i have a miss fire issue. the programming is set so it stays in the highest gear for to long when driving in city conditions. it stays in 6th gear going 25-30mph and when you need the throttle. the transmission can't decide which gear to be in. on two different occasions i went to pull out of a side road onto a main road and the truck fell flat on its face like i hit a kill switch and it all most caused me to get t-boned. i hit the throttle multiple times before it decided it was going to 100% throttle and have me going out sideways onto the main road. i have taken it to the dealer and they have confirmed it to be a programming issue, but there is no fix from gm and the dealer can't do anything with it because of epa laws, but there are aftermarket tuners that address this very issue and fixes the problem and also voids warranty of the truck. it's had the issue since the 2nd week i've owned it from new. the dealer told me to keep calling gm to complain, but all gm does is send me to the dealer. where i'm told there is nothing that can be done. it is an ongoing issue and is only a matter of time before it causes an accident or death if it hasn't all ready. i have 30 years of experience in the auto technician field and my family combined over 100 years. you know the issue is bad when a beginner driver notices the issue. if you have a local person. i'd be more than happy to take them for a ride to show them. for when this happened. it started in 2nd week of july to present. it only had around 300 miles when it started.

Issue 1 - transmission: the chevrolet silverado has a 6-speed transmission that clunks / hard shifts (very hard). gm indicates that this is normal and/or the transmission is adapting to your driving style. the clunk is very distraction (startling) when driving. the transmission also hesitates in selecting gears. this is very dangerous when attempting to accelerate into traffic. on two occasion, i attempted to merge on to the interstate and the delayed transmission engagement almost resulted in a collision. issue 2 - engine: the chevrolet silverado has an active fuel management that drops the truck down to 4 cylinders. when this occurs, the entire truck will vibrate / reverberate causing headaches. google "chevy shakes". *tr

I bought a 2016 chevy silverado 1500 ltz z71 and it vibrates at idle and the transmission is slipping. i had already took it to the dealership to get it fix, but no luck. gm told me that is how the truck is designed to operate, which is hard to believe. there is absolutely zero help from gm to help me resolve the problem. i was given an option to trade it in for a new one at my own expenses or deal with the problem. ford would not take my truck as a trade in nor will gmc. this vehicle can potentially by dangerous and a liability as the transmission seem to have a mind of its own and the constant vibration cannot possibly he good for anyone.

The issue(s) that i am experiencing all appear to be with the trucks 8 speed transmission. the first two occur during breaking and the third happens when accelerating from a 'cold' start. a description of each of the three major issues are outlined below: 1)during initial breaking the truck will begin to slow down as intended and without warning it abruptly accelerates/slides forward (see breaking profiles). this typically happens between 10-20 mph. 2)during breaking just before coming to a stop i experience a hard jerk or shudder (see breaking profiles). 3)during a 'cold' start, in the morning or after work, the transmission will sometimes slip and shift hard while pulling out of my driveway/parking lot. the issues are all intermittent.

The front seat shifts around when cornering. the truck shifts constantly. it can never find the correct gear when it needs one. it continues even after they shimmed the front seat and shifting issues happen daily.
