On march 1, 2018, i was driving my 2014 silverado. when i made a turn my power steering did not work. my vehicll has 51,000 miles. the dealership had previously fixed a recall issue related to power steering, but informed me that this repair would cost $2500 and was not covered. gm agreed with the dealership and offered $1000 towards the repair.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving at slow speeds and making a left or right turn, the steering wheel seized and the vehicle stalled. the contact stated that the electronic stabilitrac warning indicator illuminated. also, when the indicator illuminated, the headlights flashed in unison with the indicator. the contact stated that the failures were intermittent. the contact stated that the failures started after the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 17v414000 (steering). the vehicle was taken to ryan chevrolet (1101 oliver rd, monroe, la 71201, (318) 387-2222) to be diagnosed, but the results were not provided. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 109,000.

I had my 3 month old daughter in the vehicle with me at the time that i lost control on my 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. i was turning and the wheel began to turn on its own and was hard to control. the internal computer kept switching on and off as if it had a mind of its own. i was inches away from hitting another vehicle and being at fault of an accident, not to mention the danger my daughter was in. i was able to avoid impact with another vehicle but i hit a sidewalk damaging the bottom left side on my bumper. i will never again make another chevrolet purchase, and put my daughters life in danger.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 17v414000 (steering) in august of 2017. during the service, the eps module software was updated per the recall remedy. the vehicle later began to experience power steering failures while driving at very low speeds. the vehicle was taken back to the local dealer (furman chevrolet of brandon, 9751 adamo dr. tampa, fl) where it was diagnosed that the steering wheel failures were due to a faulty steering wheel sensor. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 27,493.

When turning the steering wheel there is a popping sound that is heard..it happens mostly when driving slow, pulling away from a stop light, or making a left or right turn.

The truck has 41000 miles on it there is a pop when turning it seems to the same issue with the steering gear as other 2014 silverados but not included in the recall it is a safety issue and gm should fix this truck. i fear the tierod will break and cause a crash

Recall # 17276 for low voltage steering. our vehicle has an extremely dangerous safety problem. when the steering wheel is turned quickly, the steering is extremely stiff, the headlights dim, and the engine shuts off. this is life threatening when making a turn across oncoming traffic lanes. we took the truck to a chevrolet dealership for the recall # 17276 for low voltage steering. they reprogrammed the steering system. this did not resolve the problem. we have taken the truck back to the dealership 3 additional times now for this issue. the dealership has opened a case with gm, and gm has recommended many things, all at my cost that have not resolved the safety problem. i feel that gm is using me as a crash test dummy. i sent an e mail request to gm documenting this issue. gm replied that they will only work by telephone they ask to record the call but will not allow the customer to do the same. they have refused to read or reply to my documented request for help. please contact me for any details or questions, i desperately need help on this. thank you, *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the steering icon flashed and a lock indicator displayed. also, the brake light flashed and various unknown warning indicators flickered on the instrument panel. the contact stated that the steering seized when the steering wheel was turned to the left. in addition, the brakes failed to function properly and excessive force had to be applied to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. team lake road auto sales (13988 conneaut lake rd, conneaut lake, pa 16316, (814) 382-9336) was notified of the failures and kept the vehicle for over three weeks. a loaner vehicle was provided. the contact had not received any specific technical guidelines regarding diagnosis and repairs. the dealer released the vehicle back to the owner and the failures recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and a second loaner vehicle was provided; however, the vehicle was returned without being repaired. the dealer indicated that the vehicle was previously serviced before it was purchased per nhtsa campaign number: 17v414000 (steering). the contact informed the dealer several times that the remedy failed, but did not receive any recourse. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: pe18012 (service brakes, hydraulic, service brakes). the manufacturer had not issued any brake system recalls for this year, make, and model vehicle and the vin was not included in the four electrical system recalls and two steering recalls. the manufacturer was notified of the multiple failures. the failure mileage was not available.

Steer assist and stabilitrak errorr messages. says to service. my a/c unit is also affected by this. it appears that it may have been part of the recall #17276 but according to the dealer our vin did not pull it up. the vehicle pulls and steering becomes difficult. a/c unit blows out hot air. when in cruise control sometimes the vehicle accelerates on its own and the rpms shoot up. have to break and decrease speed for problem to be resolved before resetting cruise control.

At slow speeds (mostly when turning) power steering will go out. i've had 3 instances where the truck completely shut off and just as many where it felt like it was about to shut off. other symptoms have been while driving on highway, generally on a longer trip, warnings about stabiltrack needing service come on, my lane departure sensor will automatically switch from vibrate to audible beep, dimming my headlights or turning my turn signal on will cancel cruise control. i had the recall for software fix for power steering issues applied in september 2017 where previously i experienced none of these issues. all of these issues have been after the recall software fix was applied. the dealer says it's due to a film that builds up on the battery cable connection and causes it to not have a good connection with the battery. apparently there is a bulletin out for this issue but it isn't a recall so dealers are charging around $700 to fix this. having your truck turn off while driving is a clear safety issue and one that is much worse than the recall for having your power steering go out when turning at slow speeds.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the eps failed to function and the eps warning indicator flashed. the vehicle was taken to a dealer (bell and bell buick gmc trucks, 2491 hwy 9 e, little river, sc 29566, (888) 538-9417) who provided the manufacturer remedy for nhtsa campaign number: 17v414000 (steering); however, the remedy failed to provide a solution concerning the eps software update (reprogramming). the dealer later stated that the eps motor needed to be replaced. the manufacturer provided no solution other than indicating that the part needed to be replaced. there was a steering recall for nhtsa campaign number: 14v719000 (steering), but they had not addressed the recall for the 2014 models. the failure mileage was not available.

While making a left turn into my driveway on a city street going approximately 10 mph, my steering wheel suddenly jerked to the left out of my hand, and the entire vehicle went dead (lost all power, lights, etc.). because the steering wheel locked, i was unable to turn fully into my driveway. as a result, the bed of the truck was sticking out into a major road and i was almost hit by cars coming around the curve by my driveway. it was dark and rainy. i called someone for help and we pushed the truck out of the roadway as best as possible, considering that the steering wheel was still locked. the truck would not restart. all power was gone. the only way i could think to move the truck was to jump start it with another vehicle. after jumpstarting the truck, the dash info system displayed, "action required: open then close driver window." this is the 2nd time this happened after chevy dealership performed recall 17276 "temporary loss of electrical power steering (eps) service (during low speed steering maneuvers). there is a tsb out alluding to this issue: #pit5405c: steering jerks or kicks back / reduced power steering assist / engine stall, etc. (jan 27, 2017) . why is there no recall??? this is a major safety issue and could have been deadly!

Power steering fails during a turn along with the engine stalling and all electrical power being shut down. steering becomes very difficult each time this happens. it is an intermittent issue. but it is a safety issue every time it happens. a google search yields many, many similar reports. why has this not been addressed? it is dec 2017 and many of these dangerous vehicles are still not fixed by gm.

Power steering goes off and warning light comes on that says service power steering. this happens intermedtialy without warning. i can stop turn off the truck and it will sometimes come on and work for a short time.

As i was driving in the expressway way the stability control light came stearing wheel got hard. in other accasions when i was turning in an busy intersection truck turned off complety and it took me about a minute to be able to turn vehicle back on took it to autozone and to check battery and altenator and everything was fine it has done it to me like 3 times in the last 2weeks

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving approximately 25 mph, the contact experienced an intermittent loss of steering. once the failure occurred, the power steering would quickly return to normal. the vehicle was taken to quirk chevrolet in braintree ma. the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v246000 (steering). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 73,600.

Noticed an issue at about 70000 miles where turning left at low speeds under 10 mph there is a sound clunk in the steering. it is easily reputable and happens often regardless of direction, reverse or forward drive. the dealer said it is a failure of the steering rack, and it needs replaced. $1800 for the part and $3 hours of install brings the repair to $2400 for a 3 year old truck. i noticed many other complaints of the same description. dealer states that the rack needs to be replaced and wouldn't recommend driving it until repaired. i asked what could happen if it failed completely and if this was related to any other recalls. they said complete steering loss and they would not speculate on recalls associated to this failure

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while turning the vehicle, the steering wheel seized and the contact struck a curb. the contact had to exert force to turn the steering wheel. the vehicle was taken to william l morris chevrolet (1024 w ventura st, fillmore, ca 93015) where it was diagnosed that the steering column needed to be repaired. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred two weeks later. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the contact was informed that the battery needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but the failure could not be diagnosed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 48,622.

While on the highway a stabilitrack warning appeared on the dash stating it might affect power steering assist. this came on several times. then with the cruise control on and signaling a lane change the cruise was cancelled. this also occurred several times. it also appeared that the dash lights flickered ,but i wasn't sure because of the sunlight . later that evening i was making a turn on a city street when the dash lights went completely out and i had no power steering. this lasted about 2 seconds before everything came back on. after that episode it hasn't happened since. after reading other similar complaints i am concerned it could happen again and could result in a crash. it seems that when the cruise was cancelled when signaling the lane change, that if i pushed up or down on the turn signal lever at the end of the lever it would cancel the cruise control. i tried pushing down on the lever closer to the steering column and that didn't cancel out the cruise control. i don't know if it was just a coincidence or it just wasn't malfunctioning at the time.

I filed a previous complaint, #11044339, but forgot to add something. i took my vehicle to the dealer on sept. 22,2017 for the power steering recall ,#17276. i don't know if this is related to the problem , but thought it might be some good information to divulge.

Truck dash will flicker and cause stabletrak to disable, and then steering assist says limited. radio will change stations when this happens, and the steering wheel will lock up and is unable to be turned. has happened several times while we're on the highway. it's when we're in motion, has happened while trying to park, going on a back road, and on the highway. while in park, we can hear occasional clicking coming from inside the dash. it's been occurring since october, but was really bad on december 22nd. have a video of one of the occurrences, but not sure how to upload it.

I have been noticing some serious electrical issues in the last few weeks with my 2014 silverado 1500. it started with the "anti-theft detterent" system acting up and not allowing me to start the car. after flipping the key a few times, it went away. then the problem progressed to when turning the key it was if the battery was dead. everything would go black (lights, info center, dic, etc). after a few minutes of sitting, i could turn the key and it would start up no problems. then it all just went away for about 2 weeks. then just a few days ago, i was turning into a shopping center and the truck just died. the dash, the lights, the engine, everything. i nearly took out the entrance sign of the parking lot. hanging with my back end in traffic i quickly popped it neutral, restarted the truck, and pulled in. i couldn't recreate the problem. i drove to autozone and had them check the battery and alternator. everything was fine. about an hour later, in the drive thru at chick fil a, i placed the car in park, received my food, and as soon as i shifted out of park the truck died again, along with the dash and everything else. restarted and drove home. i spent about 30 mins driving around the block and sitting in the driveway trying to recreate the problem. i have yet to recreate.

While in motion and turning the truck loses power and steering and says stabilitrack needs service then the truck lost all power and could not be restarted. had the truck jumped and while driving the ac went out and the stabilitrack warning came on and the steering became jerky and difficult. once parked and shut off the truck will again not start.

I was in a parking lot turning into a horizontal parking spot moving less than 5 mph. during the turn the steering wheel broke loose spinning 360 degrees, the wheels stayed at roughly a 45 degree angle with the turn i was making, & the truck stalled. when i brought the truck to the dealership they said that there are plastic/nylon screws that had broken that caused the issue. while there is no recall yet, i believe it's something to look at.

Loss of steering and power dealership has performed recall 17276 reprograming power steering control module twice and this has not fixed problem.

Pops when turning left.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving 5 mph, the steering wheel seized, the vehicle stalled, and the oil indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to big m chevrolet (704 n dixie blvd, radcliff, ky, 40160) on september 1, 2017 to be repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 17v414000 (steering, electrical system); however, the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the recurring failure. the failure mileage was approximately 125,914.

I experience sudden and power steering loss followed by a sudden and predictable return of power steering. the duration of the loss is variable. i received a recall notice for the issue and have had my local chevrolet dealer perform what they deemed as the necessary work to fix the issue. they told me the truck was fixed and sent me on my way. the very next day the issue returned, sudden loss of power steering and sudden return of power steering. i have returned the vehicle to the dealer. this is a serious safety issue and the dealer does not appear to be taking this serious. chevrolet needs to do more to correct this problem.

2014 chevy silverado experiencing steering to lock at low speeds and jerk the steering wheel in opposite direction and various electrical malfunctions such as door locks disengaging, a/c to shut of, engine stall, gauge cluster to turn off, "stabilitrack" and "steering assist reduced". after recall was performed issue has worsened and become more dangerous. steering was locked at 80mph on busy highway, the previously stated electric malfunctions continued to happen as well. engine shut off or lost power many times over the course of a few minutes. all the issues continued till shut off in busy traffic and was towed to chevrolet dealer. chevrolet dealer found no issues and fixed nothing. gm customer service said that there is no issues to report and vehicle is not covered to be repaired. the loss of steering issues are still present and is an extreme safety concern.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving various speeds and making turns, the steering wheel made a loud clunking noise. the vehicle was taken to rincon chevrolet (located at 5480 georgia 21, rincon, ga 31326) where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v246000 (steering). the manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 95,000.

Power steering failure caused accident, it has been five months and they have done nothing

Steering locks during slow turns, air and radio turn off, sometimes engine stalls as well during turn while steering is locking and unlocking. happens at slow speed. has happened to me making a u turn into traffic.

When this happens the lights in dash will flicker and radio will kick off and it says ser service stabilitytrac and it will jerk the steering wheel out of your hand and the truck will quit. the dealer put new body contro modgel but did not help it .after truck quits it takes it awhile and then it does it again this could happen anytime.i put new alternater on it but did not help because u can watch voltage gage drop.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 17v414000 (steering) in august of 2017. during the service, the eps module software was updated per the recall remedy. the vehicle later began to experience power steering failure while driving at low speeds. the vehicle was taken back to the local dealer (furman chevrolet of brandon, 9751 adamo dr, tampa, fl) where it was diagnosed that the steering wheel failures were due to a faulty steering wheel sensor. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 27,493.

When turning the steering wheel during a turn the wheel willl jerk in the opposite direction, kill the engine and all electronics. this is more than one second as outlined by the gm recall. the chevy dealer has tried selling me a new battery, sold me $750 new battery cables for the fix and it still doesn't work right. major safety issue that is being down played by gm. one second---give me a break !! whole [xxx] truck dies. this has happened multiple times. parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Took my truck in oct. 2016 to have it repaired for steering wheel shuddering and having to fight it on turns. and the truck just shutting down. told it was an electrical problem. well 9 months later doing the same thing. after the chevrolet dealer supposedly fixed it. i think it is a problem when you lose control of steering and your truck just stops on turns. my truck was in motion on a city street.

The rack and panion keeps on going out on these trucks and gm needs to make a recall on so many people having the same problem

I haven't been informed of recall # n172085440. dealer hasn't contacted me. would like to know when they would contact me to reflash the eps(electric power steering)module software? *tr

This problem has happened several different times. the first time was in may 2017. as i was driving home, i kept getting a "service stabilitrac" message. about 2 minutes after the last message i was slowing down to turn and my truck completely lost all power. it went completely dark. the steering wheel ripped out of my hands and i nearly crashed head on into oncoming traffic. with all my strength i turned the wheel enough to avoid a head on collision. after i coasted to a stop, i turned the key off, then restarted it and drove home. i took it to a dealer and they told me they couldn't find a problem. for the last 3 months it hasn't happened again until yesterday. all kinds of electrical problems. losing power, stabilitrac messages, diminished steering, loss of power brakes. i pulled into my driveway yesterday and lost all power, my door locks went up and down like three times, ac surges, radio went on and off a few times. i looked up the problem online and found that this isame problem is happening to a lot of 2014 1500 silverados. this should definitely be a recall issue. total loss of power while driving. someone is going to die from this issue. today when i was driving home i was going about 30 mph in traffic and my truck lost all power again, total blackout of all electronics, no steering or brakes, but thankfully all systems turned back on in a matter of seconds and i made it home. after looking online, it seems that someone has located the source. it is a fault at the "g218" ground point which is located under the front left dash speaker. (see youtube video, search 2014 chevy silverado 1500 stabilitrac problem). seriously, how is this not a recall, total loss of power while driving.

Several times the vehicle would loose power and shut down the power steering while attempting to park or turn around in driveway.. on times, only warnings would flash up on the information display about lose of systems and the door locks would cycle. occasionally, the turn signals would shut off the cruse control.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact received an unknown recall notification for the steering. the parts to do the repair were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the munnaly chevrolet dealer was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy until the second or third week of august due to them not having permission from the government to implement the repair. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure. vin tool confirms parts not available.

I bought this truck one month ago and was told there were no recalls. when i went in for service three recalls were found. i was lied to by the car dealer and i feel my life is in danger.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving approximately 20 mph, the steering seized when the brake pedal was depressed. also, the stabilitrak warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact called vandergriff chevrolet (located at 1200 w interstate 20, arlington, arlington, texas 76017) who stated that the remedy was not available. the vin was associated with a steering recall. the nhtsa campaign number was not available. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 63,000. vin tool confirms parts not available.

Please see attached documents on how to fix the recall associated with gm recall #: n172085440. i have attached an electrical schematic showing the location of the g218 ground which is causing the electrical issues associated with this recall. i also attached a ground location view showing the location of the g218 ground stud inside the truck. when the truck came straight from the manufacturer, this g218 ground stud was surrounded by sound deadening material which is causing the short in the electrical system and causing steering issues.

Gm manufacturer is taking too long to fix the problem or come up with a remedy for gm recall #: n172085440. the date issued was june, 29th 2017.

Steering assist error, service stabilitrac error,- steering wheel jerked out of hand while turning , loss of steering. electrical loss- all gauges and lighting blank while driving on highway

When turning there is a loud popping noise thin the steering. i was told by my dealer it was $1900 to fix and chevy would not help me. i am very disappointed.

Tl* the contact owned a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving 40 mph, the power steering failed without warning. the vehicle crashed into a ditch. the contact stated that the air bags failed to deploy. the contact sustained a bruised lung, bruised knee, and several lacerations that required medical attention. a police report was filed. the vehicle was towed to an independent facility. service chevrolet cadillac (located at 1212 ambassador caffery pkwy, lafayette, la 70506, (337) 234-9411) was contacted and notified of the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000. the vehicle was destroyed.

I have a 2014 chevy silverado pick up truck. i have been extremely pleased with this truck until yesterday!!!! at 22,000 miles the truck malfunctioned twice within a short distance. the truck some what stalled with out warning and all the dash lights went crazy and truck lost power. less than a half mile later while turning left in a cul de sac the truck went crazy, stalled, dash lit up, the steering wheel violently turned to the right as i was attempting to turn left. immediately took it into service. 4 days past warranty expiration. chevy/jessup auto grp won't fix it. kevin in service said he would call me on wed at 4 with update. thurs at 11am still no word. dropped by service dept. for update with kevin. he said they didn't have price ready for repair. denied coverage under recently expired warranty. when i showed him a list of serious computer malfunctions and safety issues from online chevy truck owners he told me he wasn't interested and he had other people to tend to. he also said i dropped by without an appointment. in other words, i no longer was a priority. when asked for service dept general mgr. ---oh-he is not available. so now my low mileage truck sits with no repair, appears to be a hazard to drive, gm not standing behind nor has a fix for the computer malfunctions that has been reported widespread on carcomplaints.com , leaves me with a very expensive paper weight that i am fearful to drive. it's another ignition key gm cover up and until enough people die and the feds get involved -- it appears i am driving a truck that is a danger to the road and jessup could care less !!

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while turning right at 5 mph, the engine stalled, the brakes failed to slow down the vehicle, the steering wheel became difficult to turn, and the vehicle lost power except for the esc indicator and a warning chime sounded. the failures recurred as the contact turned the vehicle to the left and the steering wheel also spun independently to the right. the vehicle was taken to jessup auto plaza in cathedral city, ca where it was diagnosed that the battery cable failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case for potential repurchase. the vin was included in manufacturer recall number: n172085440. the approximate failure mileage was 22,800.
