Takata recall. currently "no fix" . ??

Moving my truck from the back yard to the front yard, traveling less than 3 mph, no one on the passenger side. the passenger side air bag deployed first and then about 2 seconds later the drivers side airbag deployed. the chevy emblem on the steering wheel embedded itself into my right hand nearly breaking my thumb. after coming to stop, i noticed the seat belt pretensioners on both sides had also been deployed and they are now locked up tight. the truck did not hit anything. i say it like this because the chevrolet dealership would not believe me and told me it was impossible and that it was my fault. i want my truck fixed because i no longer have any safety features. chevy said they will fix it for $4,000.00. i say the control module went bad and it is their fault and it should be fixed for free. *tr

Dash cracked in multiple places including near the passenger airbag. if this were to have a need to eject, it may carry pieces of the dash into the passengers face.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving 60 mph, the contact struck a deer and the air bags failed to deploy. the contact was not injured. a police report was not filed. the vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed, but the body damage was repaired. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v383000 (air bags). neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

Our 2007 chevy suburban was parked in out drive way, after a severe hail storm in killeen, tx we took the car to get the hail damaged repaired, upon completion of the repairs the air bag light came on the instrument panel. simultaneously, on the news there were reports of air bags malfunctioning on gm vehicles. we are a family with teenagers and i am afraid this air bag is a extreme concern. the vehicle has never been in any collisions or accidents that required any major mechanical repairs. the vehicle has been taken care of without fail. i have a strong feeling the air bag issue is a manufacture malfunction. *tr

Has crack on dash around air bag, concerned about safety , plastic may become attached in air bag on deployment. has crack on driver side near vin, plastic my come shatter and injurer driver in a collision. *tr

2007 chevrolet silverado. consumer writes in regards to airbags did not deploy during vehicle accident. *smd *js

Dash board is cracking and brittle. very sharp edges on the plastic could become a hazard during a wreck. contacted gm and since the vehicle isn't under warranty, there isn't anything they could do. takata recall: vehicle is under recall, but gm says it is safe to drive. then why is it under a recall?

I have a 2007 silverado which had the airbag which has been recalled. gm has never contacted me as to when i can get the airbag replaced!

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the air bag warning lamp illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure and current mileage was 166,000.

The day after i bought this truck, while starting to back out of a parking space at my mechanic's shop, my foot went to the floor. i stopped, got out and found a large puddle of brake fluid on the ground. they took the vehicle into the shop and found all of the brake lines were badly rusted and 1 had completely failed. during the replacement process they also found the fuel line was rusted so i had it replaced as well. shortly after that, the service airbag warning started coming on when driving the truck. transport canada has a recall for this specific problem as follows from their web site: transport canada recall # 2014510 recall date2014/11/07 notification typesafety tc systemairbag manufacturer recall number19270b categorylight truck & van recall details on certain vehicles, the sensing and diagnostic module (sdm) may corrode due to a significant quantity of snow and/or water containing road salt or other contaminants entering the vehicle and saturating the acoustical padding beneath the floor carpet. if sufficient moisture collects and is retained in the padding, it may cause excessive corrosion under the module; compromising the module seal and allowing water intrusion and system malfunction. this may result in illumination of the airbag readiness light along with a "service airbag" message on the driver information center and, in certain instances, may cause inadvertent deployment of the seatbelt pretensioner and/or airbags. inadvertent airbag and/or pretensioner deployment could result in injury and/or damage to property. correction: dealers will remove the acoustical pad above the sdm, inspect, and if necessary, replace the sdm. note: this is an expansion of recall 2009-291 makemodelmodel year(s) affected chevroletsilverado2007 2008 2009 gmcsierra2007 2008 2009 why is canada recalling vehicles for this issue and the us is not?

Airbag impact sensor, front gm oe 15297468 cracks, corrodes, and stops working. poorly designed and a potential safety issue if in an accident. needs to be recalled. *tr

While i was driving my vehicle the passenger side airbag blew up. after the residual trama wore off, i immediately headed to the dealership. while on the way (about 5 minutes late) the drivers side blew up in my face. i made it to the dealership where they had to unlock the seat belt that was cinching me in. to make a long story short, they replaced the airbag and were going to charge me for the new seat belt. but after some haggling they covered that too. my question is --how can i know if the new airbag they put in is or is not a takata airbag. (since those are recalled) this incident happened in august of 2013.

Driving down the road and noticed a crack all of a sudden show up on my dash near the passenger air bag. not exactly sure what time of day it was or exactly where or when it happened. *tr

The evening of march 10 2013 around 1700 hour my brother a single man, was fatally killed in his 2007 chevrolet silverado k1500 pick-up truck, approximately 1 mile from his home on a paved country road. he was pr0nounce dead @ 1730 hour. the cause of the accident has not been determined, yet the report will show that he was traveling on a down hill slope where he swerved off the pavement to the right and then over corrected back on to and crossed the pavement on the left and then back across the hi way on the right impacting a bridge embankment over turning over hitting a tree, resting right side up. his air bag never deployed. we were told there was not any thing wrong with the airbags mechanism, further that the crash was not head on. this vehicle is totally destroyed. i have it in storage for any one inspection. my brother was not ejected from the vehicle, i do believe, should the bags had deployed, my brother would be alive today. also, further his steering from one side to the other indicated he had no power steering and finally, the skid marks on the gravel edge and not on the pavement, give an indication, there were no power assisted breaking all add up to the fact the vehicle lost its electric power by the key switch accidently shutting the engine off. *js

Takata inflators

Contacted the dealer and they had said no parts available at this time and its been well over a year ago and they said they would call me back when available. they called me back about a yr and a half ago and said that it does not effect my vin# and i see that it does. please help verify that my vehicle does need the air bags changed out. i bought this brand new off the lot at south pointe chevrolet in tulsa, ok in january of 2007. all i ask that this repair gets fixed at the recall expense and to know that these either need changing or not.

After short(90miles)trip to see family members, i noticed a crack on the passenger side of the dash connecting the 'air bag' panel. this raises great concern about the safety of passengers should there be a minor collision and pieces of the cracked dash impaling someone. now the dash above the instrument cluster has cracked and this is very disturbing because this is at the level of the drivers face.. *tr

Vehicle taken to dealership to have campaign work done ( 09184a oct. 09 sdm corrosion in states having snowfall and salt applied to roads) after receiving notice in mail. no problem with vehicle at this time. 2 weeks after work, vehicle (multiple times) started exhibiting intermittent service air bag light...on for a few minutes then off. around oct. 2nd, 2012, service air bag light came on and now stays on upon start until vehicle is turned off. gm and dealer contacted and recommended i have system diagnostic done...at my cost ($90) to determine problem. i opened a case file with gm (# [xxx]) and will take my vehicle to an independent mechanic to download codes and determine which item is faulty. i would have the dealership that did the work perform this, however i have had issues with them in the past regarding "needed" repairs. i suggested that if they run the diagnostics in my presence and the codes come up with something other than the sdm i would gladly pay for the diagnostic and repair, however, if the code came up with the sdm being the problem, they would pay for the diagnostic, replacement, and rental if needed.....they would not accept this. the sdm in my vehicle is part number 25823557...gm has now substituted it with part number 22759740. i own this vehicle (no loan/liens) and other than this issue have been very happy with it....this vehicle is only driven approx. 15k per year, mostly to and from work and i follow all recommended service intervals. thank you for your time. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

The dashboard has cracked running from the corner of the passenger side airbag towards the windshield. this happened when the vehicle was parked and not in use. i am very concerned that a vehicle of this age has a defect such as this in the location that it does. i fear that in the event of an accident and deployment of the airbag, the already cracked plastic of the dashboard could become a dangerous projectile. *tr

Takata has a recall on the airbags and there is no remedy listed. warning light keeps coming on.

The dash is cracked and a huge piece of the dash has fallen into the dash area. these dashes are dangerous! the crack is also affecting the passenger airbag.

I have a 2007 xlt suburban that after having a crack develop over the passenger air bag now shows that the air bag is defective. *tr

Substandard material and installation methods directly resulted in defects in the dash board and associated sub assemblies. the mentioned has been recorded within 4 years of manufacture date and has progressed to its current state with large holes developing with major cracking and to the extent causing sub assemblies such as the steering column cover and upper glove box to disintegrated and fall off of its mounting locations. the concern is that upon deployment of airbags, plastic shards can become sub sonic projectiles causing sever injury, even death .

Numerous cracks have appeared in the dashboard of my 2007 silverado. two of them are around the passenger airbag which could become projectiles upon the inflation of the airbag. this is a known defect in the dashboards and affects thousands of gm vehicles. *tr

Passenger side airbag has warning light that bag is not working. light suddenly came on. received recall notice in 2016 stating i would here from them but no further correspondence has occurred.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the air bag warning light continued to illuminate and remained illuminated. the dealer was contacted who stated that the air bag sensor would often become dirty and cause the warning light to illuminate. the contact stated that he replaced the sensor himself. the manufacturer was contacted and a claim was filed. the manufacturer offered no further assistance. the failure mileage was 70,000.

I was traveling northbound a regular city street when the inside of my tires hit a pot hole and set off my side impact airbags on my 2007 chevy silverado 1500 z71 4x4. there was no side impact on the truck at all and no front -end collision to set off the front air bags(they did not deploy). i am extremely worried about the safety of others. please look into this. *tr

The air bag system on chevrolets tend to need service work early and if the system is that sensitive, the bags could deploy. this could cause accidents or personal injury. it seems chevrolet has constructed this system to fail for hopes of collecting repair money. *tr

On my chevy truck the service air bag light came i was advised by chevy service dept that if the light is on bags will not deploy. *tr

I have a 2007 silverado... i noticed back in 2010 that the dash was cracked at the air bag area above the glove compartment but after doing some research it seems this is a common problem among these new body style years. 2014...my dealer offered me a repair discount of 20% which i thought was absurd !!! *tr

Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v381000 (air bags) and stated that the part was not available within a reasonable time frame to schedule the recall repair. the dealer (windham motor co inc, 1344 hwy 80 east, demopolis, al 36732, (334) 777-2929) did not give a specific date for when the part would become available. the manufacturer was contacted and could not provide an estimated date for when the vehicle would receive the recall repair. in addition, the dealer made no mention of nhtsa campaign number: 10v240000 (electrical system). the contact was not experiencing a failure. vin tool confirms parts not available. parts distribution disconnect.

Takata recall 2010 - gm status for this 'recall' - recall incomplete, remedy not yet available. it's going on 8 years now and still no remedy but takata acknowledges defect / recall. when will my airbags be able to be fixed by gm / takata?

Dashboard plastic is cracking near the passenger airbag and above the instrument cluster. this is a very common defect in silverados, tahoe's, denalis, etc from the years 07-13. the concern (other than poor quality) is debris breaking loose in an accident if the passenger airbag deploys and causing serious injury or death. general motors denies that this is a defect and is claiming that it is caused by the owners using cleaning products such as armor all on their dash. this is, of course, nonsense. many owners have never used any cleaning products and still have the same cracks in the same places. the real problem is a lack of tolerance in the plastic mounting points which does not allow any room for expansion/contraction in the heat and cold. here is a link to a facebook group for owners of gm vehicles with this defect with 5,700 members and counting every day with all the evidence you could ever ask for. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://m.facebook.com/groups/gmdashcrack/%3fview%3dgroup&ved=0ahukewil7vi4hprsahun32mkhbbld8cqfggamaa&usg=afqjcnf71q5oezwzyuiiucsubmh8ky9dow&sig2=hgrlqfcklil8ubhkjr0ibw

Hello- recently i had an issue with my 2007 chevrolet silverado while driving along a major interstate. my airbags deployed for no reason. no collision occurred, they just went off while driving about 60 mph in traffic. stasek chevrolet did a fine job of repairing the interior and i received my vehicle back 3 weeks later. when i asked the service mgr. why it happened, he stated he did not know. i asked if it will happen again and i got the same answer.."i don't know". my dilemma at this point is that my personal safety(as well as my families) may be at risk while driving this vehicle in the future. i spoke with customer service at gm corporate and they didn't care about the matter and refused to cooperate with me. told me to contact a lawyer. i cant afford an attorney at this time, otherwise i would pursue that route. i believe a proper resolution would have been to replace the vehicle with a new one or purchase it back so i could afford to purchase another truck. gm didn't want anything to do with me. i'm not the kind of person to try and gouge money out of the situation with some massive lawsuit. i'm not seeking any monetary compensation from gm. my personal safety is more important, and i believe i deserve to feel safe in a fairly new vehicle that only has 19k miles on it. any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. thanks for your time. regards, eric bauler *tr

Feb. 21, 2008, my wife and myself were involved in a accident during an ice storm. our truck fish tailed and plowed through a hsy guard rail at an angle of approx 60 degrees. the air bags did not work. it then bounced off a second guard rail in the outside of the opposite lane and spun the truck around and headed for the middle guard rail and parked. the air bags did not work a second time. so, the injury to our necks and upper torso was more severe because of the air bags not working. the seat belts strain injured us. we had leased a 2007 silverdo lt extended cab with warranty and guarantees. i went online and checked the safety rating. shocked, this is why i am making this complaint. *tr

Side airbags deployed in a non accident situation while driving...two weeks prior to that brake failure. *tr

Takata recall, gm recall 49152, nhtsa campaign id number 16v383. first, i want to know whether takata or general motors or chevrolet division of general motors is primarily responsible to me for making the necessary replacement and repairs to my before-mentioned vehicle. second, i want a timeline as to where we are today, and what steps will be taken in the future, and a timeline for when these steps will be implemented. we are now at least ten (10) years into this mess. i want to know exactly how and when my vehicle will be put into the safe operating condition i paid for it to be in when i bought it ten(10) years ago!

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving 45 mph, the contact noticed that the air bag light was dim. he stated that his wife was seated in the passenger seat at the time and weighs 120 pounds. he also stated that the air bag light is off 75% of the time and should be illuminated at all times when the passenger seat is occupied. the dealer and manufacturer stated that his wife's weight is too light to activate the system, which is a normal function. the dealer test drove the vehicle and concluded that nothing was wrong. the manufacturer stated that they would send him a video to support the dealer's conclusion. the current mileage was 650 and failure mileage was 350. updated 12/12/2007 *bf updated 12/12/07. *jb

Gm has issued a recall with no solution to the problem and no timeline on when they will have a solution related to the takata air bag recall. other brands have corrected the air bag defect with replacement parts while gm has no solution.
