I have owned a 2000 chevy silverado ext. cab 4wd since december of 2001. today i was driving to work, and it was wet out. i was traveling at 25 mph and as i was slowing to a light i completely stopped the truck. there was another car 10 feet in front of me. as i started to pull away at around 4 to 5 mph the car in front of me started to slow because of traffic. when i hit the brake the abs motor started to pulsate so fast the truck wouldn't stop and i never took my foot off the brake pedal. i then moved the shift lever to park and it still wouldn't stop. i then hit the car in front of me and then i finally stopped. the driver in front of me luckily had no damage to his car since i was only driving a few mph. i continued to work. the abs light never came on. as i left work to go to lunch, same day, i was pulling up to a light at a very busy intersection . i slowed way ahead of time and crawled to the light and just as i hit the brake to stop the same thing happened where the abs motor ran continuously and i couldn't stop the vehicle . i threw the truck in park and it still wouldn't stop and was starting to enter the intersection on a red light. i then stepped on the parking brake and it finally stopped. i was almost killed because a semi just started to pass me and he was traveling at about 50 mph. i then turned the truck around and went down the road to my work. as i was parking the truck at my work it happened again,3rd time. the truck is now out of the extended warranty and i can't see paying 1,500 to 2,000 dollars to fix this when it is a manufacturer defect. this particular problem should never happen. there should be a recall for this problem or someone is going to be killed, if that hasn't already happened. i will never feel safe driving a chevy/gm vehicle again and will tell everyone i know about this problem. just so it's understood i'm a very safe driver and have an excellent driving record. *nm
The abs failed in my truck, causing me to hit a trailer parked in my driveway. while gm has already "repaired" this under a previous recall, their "repair" obviously doesn't work. they were unresponsive about my complaint, since my truck had already been "repaired". if someone would have been walking in front of my truck when the brakes failed, i would have killed them. it is one thing to have the radio quit working, it is an entirely different thing to have the brakes totally fail. gm needs to do something about this besides cleaning a couple sensors. there were no warning lights, no indication whatsoever of the impending failure. i backed up and the brakes worked fine. there are still no warning lights. i spoke with the dealership and their answer was "there isn't anything we can test for this intermittent problem. we can try to get it to fail and go from there". i now have a 6000 lb projectile that i have no idea if it is going to stop or not. i removed the abs fuse until i can figure out what to do with this unreliable product. *nm

One owner 2000 silverado 1500 lt, while pulling light motorcycle trailer going downhill - brake pedal went to floor. no brakes whatsoever. driver was lucky enough to have room to gradually stop. brake lines rusted through - fluid streaming out. gm and dealer finally replaced "defective lines" (vehicle had less than 50k miles). 1 year later, remaining lines rusted out and failed. owner replaced at own cost and finally sold truck. gm failed to recognize symptoms of issue all along and provided less than acceptable support. *tr

Dt*: the contact stated that the brakes failed while driving 15 mph nearly causing an accident; the vehicle swerved on a sidewalk in order to avoid crashing into another vehicle. the dealers determined that the cause for the brake malfunction was caused by the brakeline rusting out. 08/02/06 updated. *tt
Dt: the contact stated while depressing the brakes traveling at any speed they intermittently skids as if the brake are locking up and there is an extended stopping distance. the vehicle has been taken to the dealer on several occasions. on one occasion the dealer replaced the brakes however the problem persisted. when the vehicle taken back to the dealer, they test drove the vehicle and determined that the problem was fix. however, the problem still persists. *nm
While attempting to park my vehicle i began coming to a stop and was going to begin backing up, at this time, the abs kicked in and the truck lurched forward hitting a parked car. the brake pedal went all the way to the floor and there was no previous warning. if someone had been between my vehicle and the one hit, they could have been killed. the vehicle was towed from the lot to the dealer. was told to call customer service by the local dealership. the truck had 84000 miles and brakes had all been replaced 3 months earlier. i do not feel safe driving this truck now. *jb
Driving north on garderstate parkway the brake light of my 2000 chevy silverado came on. i exited parkway at northfield exit and i applied my brakes. the brake pedal felt soft and the pedal went to the floor. i was able to make a left turn at the end of the exit ramp. the light at tilton road turned red i applied brakes the pedal went to the floor. there is a sunoco station on the corner which i coasted into. i checked under the hood fluid level was below the min. line. i added fluid into the reservoir. i got back into the truck and applied my brakes. pedal went to the floor again. i looked under the truck and noticed there was brake fluid running onto the ground. noticed a pep boys store about 1/2 of a block down the road. i waited till there was no cars coming and proceeded out onto tilton road toward pep boys. down shifted and applied brake pedal as i approached store. they checked the braking system and indicated that a brake line was leaking fluid. monday they repaired the truck by replacing about a five (5) foot section of brake line at the tune of $262.52 wow. i do have the old section of brake line that was removed. the old section of brake line is so heavily rusted the shop indicated it was very unusual. when i got home i looked at the repair and the rest of the line still in the truck and i am worried about condition of brake lines and the excessive rust that exist. i'm worried that there may be another leak, result might be that we are not as lucky the next time. the parkway is a 65 mph road and if i would have had to stop very fast doing that speed i truly believe i would never have been able to stop without injuries. i have always owned chevy's and i kept them for generally 9 to 10 years and i have never had a brake line rust out as did my 2000 chevy truck. i hope that this matter can be investigated. thank you very much for time spent in reading my long description of ...
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet silverado 1500. when the contact was driving approximately 30 mph, the abs warning indicator unexpectedly illuminated and when the brakes were engaged the pedal traveled to the floor. there was an extensive delayed response. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing and to be repaired; however, the similar failure recurred. the contact discovered there were two recalls related to the defect associated with nhtsa campaign id numbers 00v055000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock), and 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). the manufacturer was notified and informed him that the vin was not included in the recalls. the vehicle was not repaired for the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
Dt*: the contact stated while the brakes were applied at any speed, the abs engaged. when the vehicle reaches 5 to 10mph, the brakes made groaning noises and there was an extended stopping distance. there is a nhtsa recall, 05v379000, regarding the anti-lock brakes. the vin was not included in the recall. the manufacturer was alerted, but the vehicle has not been inspected.

2000 chevrolet silverado 1500 pickup 12/30/05 i called to make an appointment for the abs recall. 12/31 the abs light on the dash came on. the dealer completed the recall work and stated the abs light was an "active failure" code in the computer and was not related to the recall. repair of this fault was estimated $1,400-1900. i have also paid to have the fuel gauge fixed. it went from empty to full at random and has been reported as a common problem but has not been recalled. *jb
Brakes began to pulsate between 3 mph and 5 mph which caused the vehicle not to slow when coming to a complete stop; stop lights, stop signs, etc. failure of the abs caused myself to roll through a stop, into traffic, and into the ditch. a test for low speed anti-lock operation was done. results showed problem to be faulty abs system. ( noted to be manufacture defect per newspaper article milwaukee journal sentinel ). problem was corrected by replacing the front wheel hub assemblies. *jb
Dt*: the contact stated at various speeds, the vehicle rotors were corroded. all four rotors had this problem. the pads were not making full contact with the discs. the contact felt the braking was not affected but could decrease in the future. the vehicle had a 4-wheel anti-lock braking system. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on 08/22/06 to have a recall performed regarding the abs system, but was not completed because the dealer notified the contact that the rotors needed to be replaced as well. the manufacturer was not contacted. updated 09/13/06
The anti-lock brakes system failed do to corrosion, do to the salt usage for snow & ice control in the state of minnesota. they would activate at low speeds, and by the time i got the dealer to get it repaired i almost hit a building and a vehicle couldn't stop in time. the parts where removed, cleaned, conditioned and put back on the vehicle. campaign number 05v379000. *jb
Dt*: the contact stated the rear brake rotors were replaced due to rust after only 14,000 miles. the problem appeared on the front rotors at 38,000 miles and those were also replaced. the problem was noticed because the abs light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a service dealer for replacement of the brake rotors and pads on both occasions. the rust first appeared near the axel of the rotor and worked its way toward the outside. the rust was only present on the braking surface.
Abs brakes start to chatter when brakes applied slowly and will not stop my 2000 chevy silverado. a friend has a 2003 silverado with 35000 miles and did the same thing. had to use emergency brake to stop. abs warning light does not indicate a problem. almost hit a parked car in front of me. dealer would not make repairs under warranty for my friend. my garage came up with a 150.00 worth of parts to fix mine. i have 76.000 miles on my 2000. *nm
What is described with the brakes in the recall information is what happened to me yesterday 08/29/05 on interstate 69 here in indiana. i almost hit a semi truck in the rear in. i finally got my truck stopped by throwing it into park after nothing else worked. then i went to a repair shop and they charged me $264.00 for new pads and rotors on the rear wheels. *jb
Tl*- the contact stated that the 2000 chevrolet silverado 1500, had abs problems. while driving under 15 mph the contact almost had to stand on the brake pedal to get the vehicle to come to a stop. there was a recall campaign # 05v379000 for service brakes, anti lock. the contact has contacted the manufacturer, and filed a complaint with file # 71470052366. the contact stated that this was file over a week ago. the contact stated that he has had the sensors replaced on 3 occasions. the 1st sensor was replaced at 45,104 miles on 08/02/05, and the 2nd sensor was replaced at 46583 on 10/24/05 and the 3rd was replaced 01/17/07 with 60216 miles. the contact believes that the abs should not have so many problems. the contact stated that on 3 occasions he has barely averted a crash. *ak
2000 silverado 1500 with 70,500 miles july/05 my brakes stated to feel like i only had 70% of my braking capacity. it does not matter whether i stomp on the brake or brake with increasing pressure, the antilock will not engage nor will the tires lock up. i replaced all 4 rotors and pads (non oe @ 62,500 miles). the lack of braking was still present. next i replaced the master cylinder which has not solved the problem. i just had the dealer look at the system, they noted the rear pads were worn (after 8,000 miles). the dealership also said the non oe pads were probably the cause of the lack of braking. my concern was the fact that the lack of braking started when the oe pads were still on the truck. *nm
Abs system activates at low speeds causing a much longer time to stop my truck. almost rolled out into on coming traffic. only happens occasionally without any rhyme or reason. *jb
Failure of anti-lock brake system. defective module kept feeding power to the motor of the abs and then the motor fried. my abs light (yellow) came on followed by the brake service light (red). a diagnostic scan revealed the abs module and motor both were defective. i had both the module and the motor replaced. the parts totaled around $1500. *nm
Tl- the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the vehicle would not come to a smooth stop without the abs system being activated. the contact stated that the failure also extended the stopping distance. the contactbeleived the failure to be a safety issue because of the increase in stopping distance. the failure was repaired twice before by the manufacturer but continued to fail. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 80,500.
When driving the abs and brake warning lights will light up. took truck to a local mechanic and he put it on a computer and the computer gave a code that a relay is bad which is built onto the trucks main computer board. no way to replace it except to replace the computer which is very expensive and the dealership has to reprogram it. mechanic told me that when abs and brake lights come on that your abs brakes will be disabled. talked to a local chevrolet dealership to see if there may have been a recall on this particular matter. they told me no. no recalls will be issued unless it is a safety issue which more than one vehicle have been reported with the same problem. i have did a lot of searching and talked to many mechanics and they have came across many silverado and tahoe vehicles having this same issue. to me it is a safety concern because part of your brake function is enabled. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the abs braking system failed. the brakes would sporadically pulsate when depressed and intermittently, would cause a drastic increase in stopping distance and time. the contact stated that when the failure occurred, the abs sensor would activate as if the contact was driving on wet roadways. the vehicle was repaired in 2005 under nhtsa campaign id number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic: antilock). the contact disconnected the abs fuse to use the manual braking system because cleaning of the wheel speed sensor mounting surface on the bearings did not work. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who inspected the brake and advised the contact that the vehicle was already repaired in 2005 and offered no further assistance. the manufacturer was notified of the failure who informed the contact to take the vehicle back to the dealer for further inspection and repairs to the brakes. they offered no further assistance. the failure mileage was 110,000.
