I just read you are investigating gm suvs for defective gas gauges. i have a year 2000 chevy silverado and the gas gauge has read erroneously for the past six or seven years. i have run out of gas several times, but have never had the problem repaired because the dealer wants to charge me an absurd amount. i believe its a design flaw they should repair for free. i would recommend you expand your investigation to include gm pickups back to at least the year 2000. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet silverado 1500. the fuel gauge indicated that the vehicle was low on fuel when it was actually full. the failure occurs while driving 50 mph and also when the vehicle is stopped. the dealer stated that the failure was common among other vehicles of the same make and model. the failure and current mileages were 97,800.

Fuel gauge alternates between full and empty with low fuel light when empty purchased used recently. *tr

Fuel gauge failure when vehicle is in "park". low fuel signal goes on. then when the vehicle is in drive, the gauge goes to full. then eventually the gauge goes to the level of the fuel. *jb

I own a 2000 chevy silverado (4.3) with 92k miles. my problem is with the faulty fuel sending unit that left me stranded on the expressway and almost caused an accident. the gas gauge indicated 1/2 tank full. now the gauge indicates empty when i fill the tank completely. this is a very expensive repair that i think chevy should replace i am not the only one with this unstable problem. the fuel gauge is erratic at all times and now i gauge my travels by using the odometer and allowing only 300 miles per full tank. *jb

2000 chevrolet silverado 1500 pickup 12/30/05 i called to make an appointment for the abs recall. 12/31 the abs light on the dash came on. the dealer completed the recall work and stated the abs light was an "active failure" code in the computer and was not related to the recall. repair of this fault was estimated $1,400-1900. i have also paid to have the fuel gauge fixed. it went from empty to full at random and has been reported as a common problem but has not been recalled. *jb

I am currently working based in mexico. my 2000 tahoe is my family vehicle that i only use to travel with my family within mexico. on friday the 21st of january 2005 my son and i were traveling on a state road and my tahoe caught on fire going 50 mph. trafic on the road was signaling to me as if there was a problem but i continued to drive for about 100 yards because all the leves and gauges were normal on the truck. i stopped immediately after i saw some smoke and by the time i stopped the truck was in flames on the front, underneath and rear. i only had time to take my 6 year old child out of the truck which was the most important aspect but the truck and belongings were a total loss. the fire department could not stop the fire as it lasted for 1 hour and nothing but the frame was left of the truck. we were fortunate that nothing happened to my child and i but this is something extemely dangerous that should be avoided for future customers of this vehicle. we always kept this vehicle on top conditions and we have no idea why this was caused or how to aviod this in the future. we recieved great help from the mexican police and fire department as they took care of all the road damages and they also cleared me from any damages to the city as this is normaly paid for by the driver. my family is the most important thing is this world and i am sure that others feel the same about their families and i hope gm vsn help with this issue by improving this vehicle. *ak

Low fuel light comes on even when the tank was just filled up. mainly when idiling and after starting vechicle.*ak

The accelerator, when at idle, has a "catch" in it which requires an inordinate amount of foot pressure to overcome and when overcome, the vehicle lurches ahead out of control until the brake is applied.this creates a dangerous condition whereby the driver is not in complete control, particularly in close quarters such as a parking lot. because of this condition, i start out with one foot on the brake and one on the accelerator in anticipation of the problem but if another driver uses my vehicle, he is not aware of the idiocyncracy and an accident is even more probable.

I own a 2000 chevy silverado z71. when i start my truck my gas gauge will stay on empty even with a full tank of gas. it will also show a half a tank of gas when i am actually empty. this caused me to run out of gas on a busy interstate nearly causing an accident with my two children in the truck with me. my sister owns a 2000 gmc truck like mine and her gas gauge will not work at all. she has ran out of gas several times because of it. once on i10 in the middle of the night about 30 to 20 miles from a town. it is obviously a know problem. is gm waiting for someone to get killed on a highway before they decide to fix it? *tr

Gas gauge does not operate, has not for years , on most chevrolet trucks. *tr
