I took my car into john hall chevrolet on 5/19/2017 to have the ignition recall done.prior to my taking it there i was experiencing several issues with my car that no single diagnostic could quite pinpoint.needless to say i replaced several things yet to no prevail.the car would just stop running luckily before i reached over 10 mph and on several occasions while trying to turn in traffic i lost power steering.all while the key was in the on position.finally a more updated sensor scanner detected an electrical issue within the ignition itself.when i went to the dealership i was told they would only do what the recall required them to do. even though i told them what it was doing and asked if they could check to make sure i didn't have to worry about leaving there and the car shutting off and /or no power steering i was told no .i would have paid to know,to have them scan it, whatever.needless to say after they fixed their part the car is still doing the same thing.even when the man brought me my car i asked how did she start? he said not good and walked away. also i left them with 1 key shouldn't there have been something done to both? my car may be old but she's been well maintained .great strong motor and alot of new parts. the starter and fuel pump were pretty much wrecked by the little electrical issue within the ignition. confused and overheated simply trying to start the car and hope it stays running.it's that electrical issue that keeps saying yes enough voltage then nope can't have it. it's been proven not only by scanning but by reading and testing .

Key is stuck in ignition and will not release nor completely shut off engine. lock cylinder was replaced a year ago. believe that the ignition lock cylinder needs to be replaced.

Driving at 10 mph and then went to go 45 mph my speed reading went to 120 mph. i wasn't going that fast it started to jump around then stayed at 120 mph. i then stopped and keep turning the key on and off it went down to 100 at first then shut off car again then went down to 90 so i kept doing that till it was at 0. drove about 10-15 miles and it started to jump again. i then called the dealer where i bought the car 2 months ago and they want to charge me several hundreds to fix. i read alot of reviews on this year monte carlo, everyone had the same issues and no recall on this car to get fixed. i will not ever buy another chevy car and i will be glad to tell friends and family how chevy treats there customers. matter infact i will contact my local tv station to inform other how chevy takes care of there customers. *tr

My speedometer, rpm, and gas gauges are inaccurate. i cannot tell how fast i am going, nor how much gas i have. then ever since i bought my car, brand new, my transmission has been slipping, its an automatic. the dealer fixed it the 1st time, but now again, 90,000 miles later, its us starting to happen again.my radio has stopped working, no light or noise period. please recall because i have read literally hundreds of posts of the same problem in the same car. i paid good money for my car, not for this. all if these problems are unsafe and i really hate for my 1 year old boy to ride in it. please, please recall the car. *tr

Thought this was the car for me. wrong. after purchasing the car the following things have gone wrong and most seem dangerous. no way to control headlights .. driving at night at 55 mph, lights all shut off the indicator lights also stop working at random times ignition does not accept key every time resulting in leaving a spare key in the ignition and hope it starts. if not i'm required to wait 15 minutes before starting or longer. the traction system no longer works, along with cruise, or steering controls total power lost to steering wheel, hope this doesn't affect the airbag. i have the supercharged version, the engine caught fire and had to be replaced. needless to say it is no longer supercharged. not so sure about this issue, however when pumping gas the pump will kick off every half gallon pumped into tank. another fire issue? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet monte carlo. the contact stated that the entire instrument cluster malfunctioned, causing the speedometer and fuel gauge to become inoperable. the contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic where the mechanic advised that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. the contact did not have the vehicle repaired. the failure mileage was 120,000.

I was driving 55 mph and my speedometer said i was doing 10mph. then my tac stopped working. then my speedometer stopped working totally. my driver side seat will not heat at all. my wheels are peeling. the chrome is peeling right off the wheels. my check engine light stays on all the time. i have had it checked for the code so they replaced the gas cap and did a reset within 75 miles the light came back on. i am giving up on chevrolets. every vehicle we own is a chevy, what's up with all these problems and no solutions???? with all the complaints on the electrical system you would think there would be a recall and a solution. when the heat on my seat stopped working it smelled like something was burning inside the car so i quickly shut it off and pulled the car over to check under my seat to may sure there was no fire. thank goodness there wasn't a fire. i paid the extra money for the intimidator, what a waste. *tr

My instrument panel has gone bizurk. my speedometer isn't reading right. going 80 in a 25 mph zone. or 120 mph while traveling 55. not. my thermostat gauge reads hot all the time and nothing is wrong with the thermostat. now in the past week my fuel gauge doesn't register. the only piece i'm aware that is working is the tac. *tr

Have a 2004 monte carlo. sporadically when driving the speedometer continues to climb. i was following my husband who was doing 45mph and and i was doing 105 then 114 then 120 then 140 then it dropped straight down. it sometimes resets it self and other times it stays like that for days. the car has 42,234 miles on it. *kb

Speedometer abruptly quit working indicating a speed of over 120 miles@hour while driving approximately 50-55 miles per through a highly controlled area. you may want to take a look at the on line comments made by other owners about the identical problem with no response from gm to their inquiries and gouging by dealers. gm and dealers decline to acknowledge the issue, when you are disreputable it will catch up, no wonder the american auto manufacturers continue to struggle. *tr

About a week after purchasing the car i realized that none of the gauges on the control panel were accurate. my speedometer sticks and reads random speeds so i never know how fast i'm going, my gas gage registers random amounts so i have to keep track of my fuel using my odometer. my oil and radiator gauges just don't work with the exception of an occasional blip. i read that this vehicle has the same control panel as another gm truck that was recalled for the same reason. one of these days i'm going to get a speeding ticket because i never know how fast i'm driving. it's frustrating. *tr

2004 monte carlo first lost temp guage and heat/blower then lost at times speedometer and tach then lost both then lost gas guage all buttons on steering wheel and dash-radio, cruise control have melted and burned off i am now losing my headlights and in response to this i slam on my brakes. no accident yet no fire yet please we are entitled to our recall too thank you *tr

As i was driving my 2004 chevrolet monte carlo ss , last night, i operated the steering column mounted headlight dimmer control. the headlights went out. after wiggling the lever they came back on but i was unable to switch them from high beam to low beam. i've searched the internet and find numerous instances of this occurring. thankfully there was not an accident related to my incident. *tr

2004 monte carlo ss intimidator..gauge panel working improperly. including the speedometer which could result in serious accident. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet monte carlo. while driving approximately 60 mph, the speed odometer displayed an incorrect reading of 5 mph. the failure occurred continuously and over a period of time the speed odometer became inoperative. in addition, the fuel gauge would not function properly. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 39,000. updated 2/23/11 *cn the consumer stated the speedometer no longer function properly. it would read 0 mph at all times. updated 03/09/11*jb

At approximately 57,000 (october 2010) the speedometer would read either zero miles per hour or 120 miles per hour while driving. it would move erratically while driving showing anywhere from zero to 120 mph. then it started working again. in january 2011 the speedometer started acting erratically again and has been doing so continually. sometimes it seems accurate but i don't know for sure. i consider it a safety problem due to not knowing how fast i am going. when on the freeway i gauge my speed by other drivers. if i use my gps i am constantly looking away from the road to see what my speed is and it is harder to read on the gps. i contacted chevrolet through email and they did not reply.

All gauges on dash are inaccurate and will work sometimes, and at other times they do not work at all or give the wrong reading. *tr

My instrument panel for over 4years has intermittently stopped like the speedometer would say i was going 100mph while going 20mph or 0mph when going 45mph. i have reported to various auto shops and chevrolet dealership and was told that if not constant do not worry about it. now the rpm are stuck at 1 rpms and the speedometer is intermittent and not sure my other gauges are correct??? i am so frustrated as gm states they will not fix and no recall yet i read everywhere that people have gotten in fixed or have the same problem. this should be a recall and per the info below gm is fully aware. the dealership wants me to pay $500 for a defect and i need help. also per the info below it has to be under 70000 miles. well i have reported it since 55000!!! i want my car fixed by gm but they are refusing. what do i do? gm parts bulletins & information - to cadillac, chevrolet and gmc dealers subject:bulletin gmp07-174 - special coverage adjustment #07187- instrument panel cluster gauge needle functionmessage #:vsu20071575 special coverage adjustment #07187- september 28, 2007 customers are being instructed to contact the dealership to arrange an ext; chevrolet avalanche, silverado, suburban, and tahoe; and gmc sierra, yukon, and yukon xl vehicles have reported that the instrument panel (ip) cluster gauges stick, flutter, or become inoperative. this may cause inaccurate readings, including the speedometer and fuel gauge. *tr

Gauge cluster is inoperative or inaccurate that may lead to an accident, fines, expensive repair cost due to inaccurate gauge readings, or fatality. has been addressed on particular vehicles(http://www.carcomplaints.com/chevrolet/monte_carlo/2004/electrical/gauge_cluster_needles_spazz_out.shtml) but not the monte carlo line. 2004 monte carlo instrument panel defects comments: writing in concern for all. there is an obvious defect with the original equipment installed on the 2004 monte carlo's among others i'm sure. gm will do nothing about it. the gauges will not read correctly which will eventually result in fines, injuries, expensive repair cost due to faulty gauge readings, and possible fatalities. for a small example of complaints go to http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2004/chevrolet/monte+carlo/digital+instrument+panel would like you're support in urging gm to recall and correct this problem before somebody becomes a statistic, or is fined for altering the speedometer trying to fix this themselves. thank you in advance for your support. *tr
