2010 malibu experiences fluctuations in power/ rpms when trying to accelerate. i have taken the vehicle to get looked at severals times, but mechanic could not get the car to replicate issue. not sure if its related to the fuel system, transmission, or motor. either way, no one can diagnose this problem. when issue occurs, the vehicle acts sluggish (does not want to go) and bounces between 2 & 3 on my rpm gauge. it's as if i would push the gas then let off the pedal (repeatedly). at first this only happened when going up a hill, but has become more frequent, and is now happening regardless of grade. it is a definate safety issue, as this has occurred when crossing an intersection and merging onto a highway. it does however seem to be resolved if i press the gas all the way down (rpms go up to 4-5 on gauge, then the car finally goes) i have seen many complaints about this online, but no resolution. the number of miles the car has does not seem to be a factor, as this has happened to others with this car being brand new (based on other complaints).this has been happening intermittently for months. this is my first chevy- bought last year. seems to have a ton of electrical issues. bought the car unknowingly with an open recall, tire sensor light comes on intermittently for no reason, car suddenly stalled on the highway and would not start a week after purchased, stereo loses power, power steering is intermittent, the passenger door sometimes fails to open and/or close, the driver side door loses power intermittently, the exhaust is rusting, ect. i did buy a warranty with this car, but being that nothing can be diagnosed, its a waste of money! i still owe over $8000 on this car, and paid blue book value! -chevrolet totally misleads their customers. never again oh, and i did recieve a recall letter about my power steering, but the dealership says there is no recall.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact received a notice for nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control). the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was to attach the wiring harness to the bcm with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the bcm and the harness connector and the bas harness connector, and re-learn the brake pedal home position. the vehicle was repaired under the recall; however, the failure had not occurred until after the recall repair was performed. after the recall was performed, the brake light was continuously illuminated without the brake pedal being depressed. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and they stated that the wiring harness for the third brake light needed to be replaced, but the failure had not occurred until after the vehicle was remedied under the recall. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 113,000. the vin was unavailable.

At 70 mph the cruise control shut off by itself and the service esc light illuminated on the dash. i also noticed the brake lights came on when foot was off the brake pedal and shut off when i depressed the brake pedal. this has happened intermittently in the past 2 weeks. i took car into turan-foley chevy dealership in gulfport, ms on 4/08/15 and they recommended replacing the bpp for $242.25, which i had them complete. they also said the problem may be caused by the ebcm-bpmu which would cost over $1100.00. the "service esc" light came on again on 4/09/15. i have not noticed any performance issues such as i have read in other forums regarding decreased power. recall # 13036 was completed on car 10/14/14 by dantin chevrolet which according to what i have read was supposed to fix the problems i am now having. i mentioned this to turan-foleys service department, but they said they cannot re-open a closed recall. i wonder how many times my brake lights have not worked properly as i average over 700 miles a week. this is an accident waiting to happen. please help! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. while driving 65 mph, the check engine, electronic stability control, and traction control warning lights illuminated. the contact mentioned that the vehicle began to jerk but stopped at higher speeds. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed, but the cause of the failure was not found. on another occasion, the vehicle jerked before it stalled. the vehicle failed to start and was towed to the contact's residence. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 105,000.

Cruise control ramdomly works. when cruise control fails, third brake light and two rear brake lights illuminate. when brakes are applied then the three lights then go off. when cruise control fails the triangular tsc warning light also appears on the display and a typed message appears stating "traction control system off". bottom line, when cruise controil fails, we drive with the brake lights illuminate and when braking, brake lights do not illuminate.

I was driving down the highway and all at once the car lost power. the esc, checking light, and engine power reduce come across the display. i could not go over 20mph, but i'm glad i wasn't far from home nor any car behind me at the time this happen. i will be taking my car to the dealership down the street from my house as soon as they open up at 0700 monday, december 15, 2014 to get it check out. this scared me so bad that i don't know what to do. this is so unsafe for highway traveling. *tr

I noticed while driving one morning my brake lights were illuminated, but i was not depressing the brakes. when i pushed the brake pedal, the brake lights went off. at this very same time when i tried to set the cruise control, it would not allow me to do so. this has been an on-again, off-again issue. some days it works correctly but other days the same problem persists. i researched online and saw that there was a recall by gm for this exact problem, recall id# 14v252000, but when i called the dealership and they checked my vin # they said that my car was not under the recall, and that they would have to take my car and see if it happens to them in order to fix it. i read the recall and it is exactly the issue that i am having. please help and add mine, and i'm sure others, vin#'s to this recall before something horrible happens! *tr

2010 chevrolet malibu applied brakes and car continued to travel and not stop. *cw on july 16, 2014, the consumer was involved in an accident, due to the above mentioned statement. the vehicle was totaled. the consumer referenced recall # 14v252000. *jb

While on the highway the service traction control warning light came on as did the esc warning light. i tried to engage the cruise control but it would not work. we stopped at a rest area and turned the ignition off for about 20 minutes. we resumed our trip with the cruise control engaged and traveled for approx. 10 minutes. at that point the warning lights illuminated and the cruise control would not work. every time we drive the car now, the warning lights now come on within a quarter mile. i saw a recall for this same problem but was told my vin number was not included.the car is at the dealers and will be repaired. hopefully. i think my car and many others should be under a recall. *tr

First occurrence i was driving down the road and my warning lights came on for esc off, service traction control, service esc at 50 mph. at first it would only come on once every couple weeks but now it comes on almost every time i drive it. it varies (speed doesn't matter) whether or not going down the highway or stopping in a driveway when it comes on but warning lights will come on when you touch the brakes. i also observed that the brake lights stay on while going down the road (when its dark outside) but when you apply the brakes the brake lights go off. i feel this could be dangerous if someone is following behind you and thinks that you have let off the brakes but you are actually slowing down. i don't think that they have an apparent fix for this issue as i see several reports from vehicles ranging from 2008 to 2012 online complaining about this same issue. it is intermittent. when you turn the car off after this occurs the lights will go off. sometimes only for a short period other times for a week weeks before it comes on again. i took my car to the local dealership but they were no help, didn't even test drive it. i was almost rear ended, other person in car screaming at me, yelling i have no brake lights. i just hope i do not have an accident. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly decelerate and the steering, abs and traction control sensor lights would illuminate. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the defect. the failure mileage was 52,000.

My service esc/service traction control indicator was flashing. it caused my car to stall, then the engine died in the middle of the road with traffic approaching behind me. i have had this problem before and it caused my brake lights to illuminate when not depressed and go off when the brakes were pressed. i am not sure if this was happening also as it was light outside and i could not see. the car started afterward and still periodically stalls or dies when the service esc/service traction control indicator lights up. as of 6-13-14, i have not received notice that my vin is affected by the latest recall for the brake light problem. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph, the brakes lights failed to illuminate when the brake pedal was depressed. in addition, the brake lights illuminated independently. the contact also experienced difficulty disengaging the cruise control and the esc warning indicator illuminated. the failures recurred sporadically. there was a recall related to the failures under nhtsa campaign id number 14v252000 (electrical system , electronic stability control , exterior lighting , service brakes, hydraulic , vehicle speed control) however, the vin was not included in the recall. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the defect. the approximate failure was 36,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the brake lights illuminated when the brakes were not being engaged and turned off when they were. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician diagnosed that the tpn system needed to be reset. the repairs were made but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 69,000 and the current mileage was 71,000. updated 8/22/14*cn updated 08/23/2017*ct

All in one weekend (while out of town) first the vehicle would not respond to cruise control commands (engage or disengage) if engaged through the steering column controls. the service esc light keeps coming off and on at random while either sitting or driving. the esc tracking is turned off. brake lights will illuminate randomly when my foot is not on the brakes. tapping the brakes gets the light to turn off, but it turns on again 5-6 seconds later. when i put my foot on the brake to slow down or tap the brake the light does not come on. the brake lights are only coming on when i'm at a complete hard stop. this is extremely dangerous as i have over a 40 minute commute into the city each day. also, the seatbelt light and beeping is on even when my seatbelt is secured. i cannot afford to have these items replace, and i have 4 years to pay on this car! there is something seriously wrong with these items in my car. *tr

Car will alarm with "service escape" and "service traction" --- brake lights will then work opposite of what they should. when brakes are not being pressed they are lit but when brakes are pressed brake lights do not work. happens intermittently but for several days at a time. have also had cruise control engage itself while driving down interstate at approx 70 mph-- cruise control came on and sped the car up without it being set -- disengaged when brakes pressed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the instrument panel failed. the contact mentioned that the clock was reset, the low engine compression, and the check transmission lights illuminated. additionally, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle jerked. the vehicle was restarted and resumed to normal. the failure occurred on four different occasions. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 81,000 and the current mileage was 87,401. updated 10/23/14*cn the dealer informed the consumer, the throttle body needed to be replaced. updated 10/30/14

Cruise control fails to engage or even indicate that it is on when the cruise control button and set - buttons are applied. the upper rear brake lights fail to illuminate when the brakes are applied sometimes. *tr

I was driving my car down a city street and the service esc light came on and the reduced engine power light came on. the car's rpm's were surging back and forth. i did manage to get the car to my mechanic and get the throttle actuator cleaned off as he said it was dirty. now the service esc light intermittently is going off again and its been about two weeks. i don't want the reduced power to happen while i am on the highway. *tr

Brake lights come on when not pressing the brakes. cruise control turns off without tapping the brakes, traction control says it needs to be serviced . i cycle power to the ignition switch and the problem goes away for a few minutes then comes back on. this can cause an accident as the lights turn off when the brake pedal is depressed . *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. while driving at various speeds, the service esc, traction control, and reduced engine power warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle independently lost power. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was not taken in for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 75,000.

I was driving down main street in our town after just washing our 2010 malibu and the car started to loose power, the check engine light came on and the engine started to run rough and started to reduce power. with the check engine light that came on, the service esc, service traction, and eng pwr showed up on the display. i stopped the car and turned it off. it took about 5 minutes for the car to run correctly again. i took the car to an auto parts store and the code p2135 was showing. this is the 2nd time this had happened. the other time was on 10/01/2013 with 69,193 miles on it. i took the car to the local chevy dealer and they put some dielectric grease on some connectors. i called the chevy dealer again today for another appointment. *tr

Tl* the contact owns 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the warning indicators illuminated and started flashing rapidly. the engine power also decreased and the vehicle independently decelerated to 20 mph. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the technician diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 65,000. *tr

Intermittent problem, occurring at least five times since date above. one or more of the following conditions noted: 1. cruise control fails to engage, or stops engaging. indicator light on (/off wheel toggle switch), but no engage. 2. "service esc" and alternating "traction control" warning with alarm tone on speedo cluster. orange warning triangle illuminated, also. 3. brake lights constant on, with no foot on brake pedal. or, brake lights can go off when brakes are applied. confusing, possibly dangerous, to drivers immediately following. once aware of this, fashioned a reflector fitting just behind the rear top mount brake light that reflects into my rear-view mirror. these problems can clear after car is stopped for a time (over 45 minutes) and may not appear again for another unknown interval. already replaced (march 31, 2014) a brake position sensor switch ($186.60 - my cost) at local selling chevrolet dealership. this did nothing to fix the problem and when asked, dealer claimed no knowledge of any tsbs or of others having issues similar. *tr

While driving on the highway, my car lost power. several vehicles almost struck me on highway, very very, scary experience. . during driving, following messages appeared: 1)eng pwr reduced 2)service esc 3)service traction 4)esc off 5) service airbag. i also noticed the car shuddered extremely bad. the rear brake lights illuminated while i was not compressing the brake, and i had no acceleration. after pulling to the side of the road, the brake lights turned off. the rpm jumped between 3000-4000. after turning the car off and letting it sit for approx 5 min. the warning messages disappeared, however ses light remained. 2 codes presented today. 1)c0242 2)p2135. will be contacting customer care, and taking car to dealer tomorrow. extremely unsafe driving conditions. not alone, many people have same issue. car still randomly illuminating for service airbag. -----------------------http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mytmb6qod4y. *tr

Cpo 2010 chevy malibu @59k no known issues prior to explanations about 3 days ago i took my car in for new tires and had a mech check a clicking noise that i noticed when i would place the car in drive and begin to move. he stated that the noise was coming from where my cv enters the transmissions and believes there is play within a gear somewhere internally. i called the chevy dealer and am due to bring in the vehicle tomorrow.... now here is the problem. while driving my car on the highway last night this random issue. the following warning lights came on: engine light traction control light followed by the following warning messages: eng pwr reduced service esc service traction esc off the car began to shudder as if it wanted to die. along with this, i had no acceleration and thank god i was able to get to the side of the road as when this happened i was exiting a tunnel onto a bridge. after pulling to the side of the road i shut the car off and restarted it. all the lights continued to show, and the rpms jumped as seen in the attached video. [xxx] i again shut the car off and waited about 5 min. after turning the car back on, the only light that remained on was the engine light. i gathered these codes this morning. c0242 p2135 -tps this is the second car in 2 years i have bought from this dealer, herb chambers of danvers, and this is the second car to have a transmission issue, on top of whatever else its doing. i still owe well over $10,000 on this car. i have not even had this car 9 months. i can tell you i am a grown man in tears because i work 44 hrs a week in a career i spent alot of money training for and now am having massive issues. i cannot afford to lose my job and the dealer could seem to care less. *tr parts of this document have been redacted to ...

Approaching 4-way stop sign and car began to jerk/could not accelerate and service traction/ esc light came on...had enough power to roll into a parking lot and shut the car off..restarted the car and it stopped doing this. i was able to contact a chevrolet dealer (i was on a 6 hour trip and this happened 2 hours into my trip:-( i was able to drive the car about 8 miles to the dealer. had to have a part called electronic throttle body. i also have another issue with the brake lights not functioning properly...being serviced now. *tr

While driving suddenly the car jerked (like a transmission error) and then the message on the display would show "service esc" and "traction off". i brought the car in first to run an electrical test, where they reprogrammed a sensor (cost=$158.95). a few days later the very same issue happened and at this time when i came to a stop sign i went to accelerate and my car had shut itself off. i then brought it in where the found codes regarding the manifold absolute pressure (map) sensor problems. the service place then monitored both the computer data for the map sensor and the actual sensor data during test drive and found that when the problem occurs the computer data drops out but the sensor data remains the same, they suggested that it could be a possible wiring problem, and i agreed to have them replace the sensor.(cost+$275.15). nothing happened until a few weeks later and the very same issue occurred. my husband played around with some wires and had noticed that there was a possible way that condensate could get into where the sensors were and so he fixed that issue. i have not had this issue since then. just wanting to see if there is a recall for this problem and to get a proper fix.

*tr

Driving down the highway and the cruise stopped working. shortly after that happened the traction control indicator and abs light came on. a message appeared to have those items serviced. this lasted for the remainder of my 20 minute drive. i started the vehicle back up after sitting for several hours and the lights were off and no message. this happened 4 more times until december. i did not notice that the brake lights stayed on until i was driving at night. i pressed the brake pedal and the brake lights would go out. the brake lights would come back on shortly after i depressed the brake pedal. there were times when just the cruise control would stop working and the brake lights worked incorrectly. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle decelerated as the esc warning indicator illuminated. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician repaired the vehicle under nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control) however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the cruise control failed to engage and the brake lights failed to operate intermittently. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 58,000. the current mileage was 58,200. updated 11/13/13*lj according to the invoice, the brake lights illuminated when they were not needed and did not illuminate when the brake was applied. the dealer replaced the brake pedal position sensor. updated 11/14/13

The cruise control in my vehicle has stopped working as of 8/15/13. on 8/14/13, the cruise control stopped working but then about 20 minutes or so later, it started working again. i have tried resetting the cruise control by turning the control on and off however this was unsuccessful. i have also been experiencing a problem with my dash lights going on and off. it happens at random times so there is no specific incidents that cause this to occur. this has been occurring for about a year now. *tr

After the cruise control stopped working on my malibu, i noticed that the brake lights were staying on while driving. the brake lights are on while driving normally, then when the brake peddle is pressed lightly the lights turn off. after the peddle is depressed quite a bit (while braking for stopping or to make a sharp turn) the brake lights will turn back on. after releasing the brakes all the way, the lights will turn off and then back on again a few seconds later. every time the brake lights turn on, the cruise control stops working. *tr

I went to leave one morning and my car would not go into gear. only when i pressed the brake pedal completely to the floor would it finally move into drive. after driving it a day or two my service traction and my service esc lights have been coming on since july. and now today my cruise control stopped working an also my brake lights are not working correctly. when the car is in park they are off and will not come on. when the car is in drive they are on constantly. *tr

When i start driving my car at a low speed the service traction control light comes on saying service esc. then it turns the traction control off. while this is on you can't use the cruise control, the car shakes, and the rpm's fluctuates abnormally. also, when i turn the car off and turn it back on the light is off until i start moving again. *tr

Brake lamps intermittently flash or stay on without the brakes being applied and the cruise control disengages. the warning lights for electric stability control fault and traction control also display. *tr

Vehicle brake lights illuminate without applying the brakes. cruise control fails to activate or disengages unexpectedly. brake lights fail to illuminate while applying the brakes until approximately 2 seconds after applying the brakes. *tr

I have been going through the same issue with my car for about 3 months now. i have had a issue with the esc & service traction light. i took it to the jim ellis chevy dealership ( paid $105 for diagnostic) and they told me it was the fuel injector, i told them that i had their fuel injector ( cylinder 1) replaced. they told me because it was aftermarket that i had to pay $267 to replace it. i took it to a local mechanic had him put in a gm injector and still was having the same issue, the mechanic replaced the engine wire harness, coils, shift solenoid, and none of this fixed the problem. he then stated that the base of the issue was the computer, i took it to get a second opinion and the next mechanic stated the same thing, after talking to another mechanic from superior chevrolet, its the computer. i took it to superior chevrolet and had another diagnostic done ( which was another $100) and asked them to please look at the computer since i was told twice it was the issue. they told me it was the injector harness and it would cost $320. this issue has been ongoing for too long and looking online many others are having the same problem, something needs to be done about this, customer are spending lots of money on an issue that seems to be ongoing. *tr

I was traveling on a side road and the vehicle shut down completely. i was told this was due to a faulty throttle position sensor. had i been traveling at a high rate of speed on a busy highway, it is likely there would have been serious injury. chevrolet did not respond to my concern and i ended up trading in the vehicle for a non-gm product. viewing the recent recalls for faulty ignition switch (that i realize was not the issue with my car) caused me to report this in the event others have had this issue and hopefully prevent serious injury or loss of life. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the engine power reduced warning light illuminated while driving 60 mph and caused the vehicle speed to independently reduce to 40 mph. the failure was experienced numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic and to the dealer to have diagnostic performed. both diagnostic tests located the failure at the throttle body position sensor. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure and current mileage was 70,000.

There was an intermittent which caused the esc and traction control lights to flash, the alarm to sound and the words that they were off plus the words traction control and esc service to come up. at the time the cruise control disengaged. this occurred several times. i brought the vehicle to the dealer on sept 16th and was told that i shouldn't be concerned about this intermittent. but it occurred again and then on 10/2/13 the warnings stayed n permanently for three days frightening my wife. i brought the vehicle in for service today and they said they fixed the problem using some dielectric grease. *tr
