Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2010 Chevrolet Malibu

I was driving and i noticed a decline in power from the motor. then the dash start reading reduced engine power and esc and service traction control.

Brake lights flicker while driving when not pressing on the brakes. ecs and check engine lights keep coming on and the car is jerking while driving.

I have a 2010 and repeatedly have issues. it has been to the dealer as it completely lost power in rush hour. car dash said service abs, power, saver mode, traction control, service esc and then died. i took to shop and they replaced the pcm is what they told me. car has since had lose of power, sluggish, dies periodically, and now almost 3 years after thousand dollar repair not to mention the air bag light that is on that they are telling me will cost at least 1000 dollars as well to repair as my car is out of warranty and that it is a saftey concern. my car died again while coming through a intersection and the p0341 has come up and been replace3d four times since february 2019. this car is a danger and i am forced to drive it when it runs as i have so much money invested i cant afford a new one. i have also replaced the throttle body and just about every sensor under the hood including spark plugs and battery and car is still acting up. why are they not helping us. someone is going to get killed. it stalls suddenly and with little to no warning. i am terrified to transport my kids in this car. please help us'

I buy a bulb every other week or month for my headlights on the passenger side keeps going out

Car intermittently stalls going home from work, and around town. never stalls in the early morning (dark out). the warmer the outside temperature is the more it stalls, with the hottest day so far causing the car to have to be towed because it would not restart until the next day when it was cooler out. most stalls happen within 7 to 15 minutes on the second trip of the day (around 2 pm), and the car has to sit for 20 seconds or longer before it will restart. no check engine light comes on for this event. the electrical power is still on when this happens. the stall is quiet and pressing the gas peddle only speeds up how fast it stalls. most of the stalls happen at 1500 rpm or less, and 45 mph or less. the stalls happen while moving, accelerating, slowing down, while stopped in gear, and stopped in park. the event feels like the engine power cuts out with no warning, and the rpm gauge and car start slowing down. if the car can coast for 15 to 20 seconds, it has fixed itself and stopped stalling (as long as rpms did not drop too far) on a few occasions. car has been to dealer 3 times, and is going back again next week for same unfixed issue. most driving is city driving, and it has only stalled 2 times when driving at speeds around 55 mph. car has stalled 51 times since january of this year, with some almost causing accidents. it is stalling more and more the warmer it gets outside. dealer work during this time that did not fix issue are, spark plugs and wires, timing chain and computer, battery, cleaned throttle body and injectors. during the stall events, my live scanner tool reports both o2 sensors got to 0.00 volts from start of stall to end of stall. the short term fuel trim goes into the 30 range (lean), when stalling while moving but not when at a stop. none of this logs any codes in the computer. very scary, having your car stop without warning in traffic.

Takata recall my car made a hum sound while accelerating when i just got in it on my 2 minute journey home. while going straight, the car no longer continued to accelerate and stopped on the street. after restarting the car, the engine light turned on and would still not move in any gear.

Driving home from work about 30mph and all of a sudden the car looses power and eco assist shuts off, with traction control, traction assist, and power steering . this seems like a safety issue as i couldn't pull off to the side of the road due to these issues and the car would only go 10 mph!! i see other have complained about this issue in nys and nothings been done or when we go to the dealership they just clear the codes and say nothings wrong! this is an issue as if someone was behind me they would of hit me as when these light came on the dash with the check engine light the car went from 30mph down to 10 mph and the car ran rough and slow . please do something with this issue as alot of people complaining !

Vehicle suddenly powered down to 10 mph, shook violently and sputtered. engine light, traction control light and service esc message across dash. this left me stranded at midnight, pregnant while in route to see dying grandfather. in order to get home approx 60 miles away, had to remove battery terminal for a reset. dealer could not fix due to reset alas code was cleared. did not experience this issue again until out of warranty almost one year later. slowly got to dealer. needs new throttle body. initially dealer claimed servicing would be covered due to tsb and extended warranty for issue; however, after diagnosis dealer denied any special coverages existed for this issue. apparantly a $600 fix, denied service and replaced ourselves for $185 part.

After replacing a leaking valve cover gasket, i took it for a test drive, after approximately 17 miles, without any warning the engine ceased on me, it died out and had to be towed back to my place

While driving at 60mpg car rpg dropped to nothing, couldn't use the accelerator. able to move to the side of the road. got it going again then not even 5 mins later car started shaking badly, couldn't use the accelerator, pulled over. dash flashes with esc. service, traction control, engine reduced and check engine light comes on. this problem has been on going for well over a year. has nothing to do with colder months, first time it happened it was september. went out today to warm up my car as it was iced and snowed over, while cleaning it off it was fine. came back inside to finish getting ready to go and when i came out to my car, it was shaking, rpm was bouncing between 1-3, all the notices were on the dash again. took it for a drive around the block to see if it would resolve, couldn't get it to go above 15 mpg. i've taken it to numerous garages to get looked at, its always something different. one "fixed" the engine, another did an oil change and filter change, one changed the alternator, etc. everytime i take it somewhere they "fix" it for it to run for a week or so at a time til this happens again. luckily it has not caused any accidents but i will not drive it in this condition. been told its an electrical problem as well but i'm tired of spending money for it not to fix the underlying issue which no one can seem to figure out. i have learned this is a problem for a lot of chevy malibu owners. i am unable to get another vehicle so i am stuck with what i currently have.

When driving on expressway check engine light came one followed by traction control, reduced engine power, and loss of power. i couldn't accelerate and i was in the fast lane when it happened going 70 mph. i lost power and luckily i was able to make it over to the shoulder. car started shaking badly. i cut it off and restarted it. went away few miles down the road it happened again. for the past 2 years it's been happening only during cold months between december and february. this is a serious safety issue

Engine reduced power. vehicle "engine reduced power light" activates and vehicle is unresponsive and stalls, shakes violently. numerous complaints online involving gm models. issued special coverage adjustment, but will not cover all vehicles with the same problem.

Timing chain bolts sheered off, causing chain to come off and other things to break, resulting in loss of power while driving on major highway.

Malibu decreases speed and downshifts and engine power reduced comes up in message center, no bumps, hard braking, no carwashes, simply driving down the road at 45mph and car illuminates engine light. several parts have been replaced already for example throttle body, knock sensor, maf sensor, battery, fuse box, accelerator pedal all of these parts and my issue still persists. several complaints have been made for this year make and model therefore i do not feel like this is an isolated issue.

The first time my vehicle died while driving i was slowing down to turn right. the engine died and i turned off the vehicle, tried to restart and it would not stay started. i had it towed to the dealership and they could not duplicate the problem or get the car to give them codes so they had me pick it up. the 2nd time the car died on the freeway a week later. i was going 60mph trying to keep acceleration when it lost power. thankfully i was near an exit and i was able to pull to the side of the exit. again had it towed to the dealership. they duplicated the problem but have not been able to figure out what's causing it.

My car currently has the engine light on and will suddenly slow down and shake violently. the reading on the dash says low traction ecs off and then flashed engine power reduced. i have taken my car to several mechanics and they can not figure out what the problem is. i am currently spending money to fix several different things and none of them are working. i have read many forums where chevy owners are having the same problem but yet there is no recall. this is a major safety issue when driving on a highway and then all of a sudden your car slows down suddenly and significantly. my car has slowed while i was idle, driving on the street, and driving on the highway.

The seat belt keeps dinging like the seatbelt is not connected to the seatbelt latch and it is. the engine light comes on and off. i have taken it to the dealership the light goes off so they can never figure out what's wrong with it. except once which it came back to it being the solenoid sensor. they fixed it. but, engine light still comes on. the seatbelt dings doing the whole ride or if your siting still. the engine light comes on off and on. just bought the car 9/23/2017.

Engine power drops suddenly on highway or in traffic after 45mins of driving, reduced engine power, service engine, service airbag messages come on also esc message then engine stalls and moves at about 10mph from driving at anywhere between 30mph to 70mph. recurring for the last two months can't be fixed after several chevy dealer workshop visits and costs

The electrical randomly malfunctions sometimes the interior and exterior lights won't work and they randomly come on or go off while driving. while i was driving down the highway the headlights stopped working and it was almost dark out side i had to pull over and turn off the car and restart it a couple times before they came back on. there is a leak somewhere that causes the car to overheat. the motor blower for the heating and cooling will also randomly stop working. the windshield wipers broke and after replacing and fixing the part they broke again while i was driving down a crowded highway in the pouring rain. i fixed the windshield wipers 2 times and they still continue to malfunction and quit working. the exauhst has a leak. the transmission malfunctions and doesn't shift right while driving it takes forever to shift and one time while driving the vehicle started to lose power and would barely drive when i would give it gas and the brakes wouldn't work it was like that for about 8 minutes before it finally started to work properly. there is a piece that connects to the transmission that keeps coming undone causing the vehicle to not be able to shift gears. i started the vehicle and tried to put it in drive but it wouldn't work and i fixed the problem and upon arriving at my destination the vehicle went into park but continued to move i had to use the emergency brake to stop it. the warning light for the engine, traction control stability and the tires has been on for several months. the turn signals randomly quit working while driving when i first turn them on they don't work but after a couple seconds they start to work. the mid flap came off while i was driving 55 mph down the highway and almost caused me to wreck. the parts affected is the electrical, body, power train, lighting, wheels, suspension, brakes, visibility/wipers and the engine.

This has happened a few times to me now. i was heading home on the highway with the cruise control set on about 67 mph and all of the sudden the engine lost power and the car starts coasting. "engine power reduced" came across the computer display. like i said, this has happened before. i could pull over to a stop, shut off the car and it would reset, and the car would be fine for me to make it home. but this last time, the car would not restart at all. i got the car towed home, checked the battery, the cables, and even replaced the starter , and it still does the same thing.... starter will not engage to turn the motor over to start.

My car only has 95897 miles on it and theirs somethi g wrong with the engin transmission ... cars been well taken car of and when you climb hills it looses power and has a hard time climbing the hill.

I was driving and then came to a stop to pull on a major highway. when i turned on the high way my malibu wouldn't accelerate and acted as if it was in neutral, as a semi pulled up behind me i had to put it almost in a ditch so i wouldn't get hit. my mechanic says its the 3,5,r wave plate and that he looked at all the malibu forums online and found out that many people have had this happen. i contacted gm and they told me there was nothing they could do. never buying a chevy again. *tr

I was driving on the highway, going 60mph. the car suddenly slowed down to about 5mph and started violently shaking, and i had to quickly pull to the shoulder lane, "reduced engine speed" appeared on the dashboard, along with "esc traction control". restarted my car and the light went off. about 15 mins later, it did the same thing. this is extremely dangerous for myself and other people around me.

While the vehicle is at idle (stop light), the engine surges and sputters and the service traction control / ecs lights appear on the dashboard and the check engine light illuminates. the car will then accelerate very slowly only up to about 20 mph. i had the car fixed at a gm dealer about a year ago for a vehicle recall on the main body wiring connector to bcm. note: the gm fix is to "clean" the connector and add dielectric grease to prevent corrosion. the car was fine after that until now. i've seen many of the same complaints on the internet regarding this issue and i believe the "fix" is only temporary.

One of my new tires continually deflate. after taking to tire co. 6of8wks to get air, i was told i have a cracked wheel and will pay $500 for a used wheel or up to $1000 for authorized dealer to replace it. i pay $50 extra f/platinum warranty and had to pay for airbag svc'ing to get inspection--and $100 deductible from warranty company. in 2yrs, i've paid $1200 f/warranty plus $150 deductible@authorized service ctr-pinkerton chev in lynchburg, va-and it took 3 weeks that i had to bum a ride to work or pay a cab. now, i'm riding on a "donut" and my gas mileage is <8mpg........w/a $389 car note and $200 car insurance note.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle vibrated abnormally and the check engine indicator illuminated. the reduced engine power warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle decelerated independently. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. the mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 109,575.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 mph, when the vehicle's timing chain began to make a rattling noise and jumped causing the vehicle to stall. the vehicle was towed and taken to the dealer. the dealer diagnosed that the timing chain needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 79,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that there was a recall regarding the throttle body reduced power mode, but the vin was not included the contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing the same issue listed in the recall. the manufacturer was not notified. the nhtsa campaign number was unknown. the failure mileage was 50,200. updated 05/03/17*lj *cn

Vehicle was moving at about 35 mph when the drivers information center indicated a electronic stability service, traction control service and esc off messages. this happened multiple times over a two day period. car was taken to dealer for diagnostics and they said that the computer had stored a p0300 code which is engine misfire. the engine runs fine however there is a slight vibration at idle while in park or neutral. gm also sent out a letter to me stating that there was a problem with the throttle posistion sensor that may cause this to happen. the dealer did not attempt to diagnos the problem with the sensor and stated that the engine had a bad #2 cyclinder with compression at 100lbs. the p0300 code can be caused by the various electronic messages that have appeared and the engine is not the problem. they wanted to tear it down at a cost of $2300 to fix a problem that does not exist. this car only has 39000 miles on it. there are numerous reports of this same isssue with nhtsa and gm has not dealt with the problem. another issue relating to this is the fact that the engine reduced power message comes on in some vehilcle and the car slows down and is very dangerous to drive on the higways. so far my car has not done that. i believe there should be some pressure exerted on gm to correct these multiple problems with their vehicle since the government bailed them out along with our taxpayer funds.

I had to have over $2500 worth of work done to my car, which had something to do with some torque sensor and other parts - i see that there was a recall on other chevy malibu's in previous model years. i am wondering how long this recall will take, my year is 2010 and not currently on the recall list. prior to that, i had just paid $2000 for other work needed on this vehicle that was out of warranty. i've had so many issues w/this car. i have receipts but they are currently in storage - i am unable to upload them right now.

Whenever i press the gass and i let it go the car keeps going and when i try to stop the car takes longer to stop because the engine try to keep going so i have to press the break harder and when finally stops after like 5 minutes the car goes normal.

While driving at various speeds, the service esc, traction control, and reduced engine power warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. car also misfired. taken to independent auto repair shop, throttle body replaced. codes found at garage po300, p2135. began 2/12/16 and randomly happened through 3/9/16

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. while idling, the engine hesitated and the rpm's randomly increased and decreased. also, the service traction, esc, and check engine indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. the mmanufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 55,000.

Driving on the highway surrounded by 18 wheelers. suddenly my traction light and service engine light came on and the reduced power notification came on, the car slowed to about 10 miles an hour very suddenly and the car was shaking violently. pulled to side of road, waited and restarted car, worked fine for about an hour. this problem has happened multiple times on highway and in city - very dangerous. dealership has been no help to fix the problem. replaced throttle body and two sensors and issue still remains

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle was idling high and shaking violently while the service esb and the service traction warning messages displayed. the contact mentioned that the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle was still shaking violently and moving independently. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the failure was undetermined. the vehicle was then taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body unit needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired however, the failure continued. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 70,400.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. when the weather was below 50 degrees, the vehicle failed to accelerate. when the failure occurred, the reduce engine power and traction control indicators illuminated. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 98,000.
