While driving on city roads or 65-70 mph on the highway, the steering wheel shakes. as of now it's a "mild" shake (but it seems as if its getting "shaker" as the days go by. im not sure if there an alignment needed. i had a new tire put on (passenger back tire) approximately 3 months ago had tires rotated back in july 2014? *tr

This part has been recalled in bulletin #14118 (known by nhtsa as 14v153) for most 2008 malibus. unfortunately, for whatever reason, nhtsa saw fit to not include all malibus with this part number. this part failed on my car and gm has charged me $480 for the module and $275 for labor because my vin is not included in the recall of other 2008 malibus with this exact same known faulty part. why? as an aside, why does the recall notice not include the applicable vin numbers? why must a second step of finding this website be necessary to find out if a person's vehicle is included, or excluded, from a recall? *tr

On dec. 11, 2014, the chevrolet malibu was driven to the store. upon returning to the car, the vehicle would start but the steering wheel was unmovable. car was towed to the local chevrolet dealership. the power steering control module (gm part # 22837369) was replaced at an owner cost of $665.01 for parts and labor. upon further investigation by the owner, there are recalls on this exact part and model of car (product safety #14118 and 14119, safety complaint odi#10712564). after discussing with the dealer, the chevy regional representative, and the head office in detroit, the manufacturer says our vehicle's vin is not covered by the recall. period. end of discussion. seeing that our ps module failure is in the same year, make and model as the recalled cars; and that our module failed in close proximity to the recall date (aug. 28, 2014), we feel that the manufacturer should take responsibility for the cost of our repair. the relativity of the recall vehicles and our vin, plus the fact that our ps module did fail, shows that our car was built with a faulty ps module and that it should have been included in the recall. since gm has stated to us that they will not step up, we are asking the nhtsa to take the necessary regulatory steps to insure that our car, and who knows how many other malibus of similar vintage, will get this power steering module repaired at general motors' cost.

Power steering failure. almost crashed while on the highway!! *tr

Frequently the electronic power steering system will fail. because this system is electronic and not hydraulic the car cannot be steered safely and has resulted in extremely unsafe condition. the local chevrolet dealership has verified the failure and advised me that the electronic power steering system torque sensor is the cause of the failure. general motors has a recall on this failure but it has three different repair procedures, the procedures are performed depending on the build date of the vehicle. gm document # 102644 addresses the failure. procedures # 14116 and 14117 include replacing the torque sensor. procedure # 14118 only replaces the electronic power steering motor controller unit. repair # 14118 is the repair gm performed on my car but it did not solve the complaint. i have spent hours on the phone with a gm customer rep. and she will not offer any assistance, i even agreed to pay for the labor if gm will cover the part but gm refused. in summary gm has recalled my car for this failure. gm replaced a part on my car when they knew it was not going to repair my car. gm now refuses to offer any assistance to properly repair this safety defect on my car. the dealership is harvey ellis motors and they have been very helpful in the diagnosis and asking gm for assistance but gm declined to assist them also. *tr

I purchased a 2008 chevy malibu one year ago and has had steering and electrical problems after 2 months of ownership. the biggest problem is the power steering and lack of control. when the car is in park or driving, the steering wheel shakes and makes loud noises. when i'm driving, the wheel will jerk left and right and feel "stuck" in certain positions. i am terrified to drive the car because the wheel will turn and stick at any given moment... it has turned and stuck going into oncoming traffic on the street and highway. there is also issues with the car door locks going up and down, and i have replaced the headlight bulb twice within a year. i noticed the turning light/blinker going fast and slow and a couple of times the car speakers have gone in and out. my dealership has sent me around in circles with no care if this gets resolved. i contacted gm and i have a case number but no one has given me a resolution or even suggested help by gm or my dealership. *tr

There was no incident. i currently have 4 recalls on my car and only one part is available for the recalls. i got the first letter in june about power steering. i think the recalls are a big safety issue for me. i have a 2 yr old son and not able to get the pieces fixed. i have called gm and the dealership for over 2 months and haven't gotten any satisfaction. *tr

Pulling out of my parking space my steering wheel got stiff. i put car in park restarted car and it loosened up but as i started to drive it the power steering light came on and now my steering wheel is starting to shake and my engine light is on. *tr

While driving at a rate of 35 mph, the steering on my car began to act up. the steering felt like it wanted to lock up but then it would jerk to the left then to the right. after driving a few blocks, it stopped. i remained in the "slow" lane because i wasn't sure what was going on. after driving a few more blocks, it began to do the same thing. this behavior continued until i reached my destination. i also increased my speed to 55 mph when i approached the expressway. i received a notice about a recall on the steering; however, the part is not available at this time. the dealership only replies with, we don't have a part. is it safe to continue driving the vehicle? is my family in danger at this point? this is my only means of transportation & as a single mom, i need my car! please review & advise. *tr

My daughter was taking her 2 and a half year old daughter to visit a friend when the power steering was lost. she managed to control the car and get it back home because she was only 2 blocks away. the car has not been used since. *tr

I was entering a gas station, i heard bells, steering was affected, was very difficult to steer, caught me by complete surprise. i am 75 years old, i drive a car with less than 25m miles, always maintained by the dealership. never have had a speeding ticket, one accident (my fault) in almost 60 years of driving, and i almost wiped out, as a gas pump was in my way. called my dealership, and they said get it to them right away and refrain from driving my car. i did, and then the story begins. turns out it way my power steering motor, and something to do with the steering column., both needing replacement. as there are recalls on this specific problem for my malibu, seems that my auto does not qualify. it suspends logic, that the very problem gm required me to repair, does not apply to this instance. they did pay almost half of my bill. but would not budge on the remainder. so can one assume only 1/2 was their responsibility, one has to wonder what half that was. i had the help of my dealership, they tried their best, but when paying for the repair, which i thought would be covered, there was a whopping charge, and my car became a hostage, awaiting payment. little choice at this point. i opened a complaint with gm,. and after 10 calls later, was told to shove it, as my car did not qualify because of my vin #. help *tr

My daughter was driving the malibu and the steering cut out on her. she managed to get the car to the side of the road. she turned the car off and restarted it and the steering came back. about two months later my son-in law was driving the car and the steering cut out again. i asked both of them if there were any lights or chimes involved when the steering cut out. both of them said no. the past couple weeks my son-in -law told me that it cut out again. i told him to take it to a dealer to find out what the problem is. the dealer told him that it might be the steering column, power steering motor or control unit, and it would cost around 700 - 1,000 -dollars. my son-in -law asked if there was a recall and the dealer said there is one but its hasn't been sent out yet. then they had the audacity to charge him 55 dollars for the time spent on troubleshooting there own problem

The steering wheel randomly starts jerking while driving and you have to very firmly grip the wheel with both hands to control the car. while the car is idling at a red light or drive thru etc it will jerk back & forth without touching it and then it starts to make a noise. sometimes it will say check power steering on the information panel. it is just really random sometimes it does it so bad i can hardly drive it and other times it is completely normal. i called my dealership who knew nothing about the recall so i then called gm on 04/22/14 and i was told the recall was being issued & would start being sent out on 4/28/14. also i was told the dealership do not have the parts to fix it with yet. since i still haven't heard anything i just called gm again today 6/4/14 & was told the recall still has not gone out but there is a website i can go to and put my car information in to be able to get it fixed? i hadn't heard that one before. while i was holding for the rep to give me the website information the phone call was disconnected and i'm still waiting to see if the rep calls me back. i have also been told that this is not a safety issue which means them giving me another car to drive is not possible. i hope this doesn't become another issue like cobalt and innocent people have to die before chevrolet will take care of the problem. when a steering wheel is jerking back and forth so bad while you are driving that you can barely control the vehicle that is a safety issue to me. we have always been chevrolet people but i am really starting to wonder what has happened to them. these are serious issues that need to be resolved. i have a car with 77,000 miles on it and can't even drive it except for short distances. that just should not be! *tr

I was driving and it did what it always does steering wheel shook and came up on information power steering failure but this time it didn't go back to normal steering and could not control. got car home and afraid to drive again. *tr

I was just leaving a patient and turned right on to halsted ave at 109th in chicago, il and my power steering indicator popped on, my vehicle became very sluggish and my speedometer stopped working but the car was moving i quickly pulled into a gas station and called my husband. the steering again was very sluggish and the speedometer was very unsteady. he was able to get it home. i took it to the shop, and found out there is a recall on 2008 malibu because of this very problem. when i called them they told me my vehicle was not included in this recall and a second letter would be sent out on april 28, 2014. gm is really terrible about this they know this is a problem with there electronic power steering(eps) and yet want me to pay to get it fixed and hope for reimbursement now. now if i wait for this letter will be in danger of a crash that they're are aware can happen..is there anything else i can do besides this complaint. *tr

When i get into my car and start it the warning signal for power steering comes on the screen and there is no power steering. i shut off the car wait a few minutes and restart then its fine. the dealer says its a torque sensor on the steering column and that this car has electric motor driven power steering. the dealer also said even though there is a recall for this in other models mine is not included. i have read 5 out of 15 complaints about this steering problem on your web page. how do we pressure gm to take responsibility. the repair shop replaced the power steering module and torque sensor.

The vehicle's power steering assist quit functioning making the vehicle very difficult to steer when my 16 year old was at the gas pump. the gm dealer indicated it need a new steering column and possibly a module. while every model similar, and even vehicles in the same model year are recalled, according to gm mine is not, yet they seemed to know what was wrong before i came into the dealer to get my $90 estimate. i had the vehicle repaired by a third party with a gm part. i am not sure if the new part is any better than the part they took out, because according to gm, there is no recall issue on my vehicle. *tr

Clunking noise when accelerating or decelerating; also when turning. steering column wiggles at the wheel and shakes when moving towards higher speeds. car pulls to the right when driving. *tr

Door locks stop working two years ago, noise with steering and power train. every time i turn it makes a crazy noise. *tr

Steering wheel locking up and shaking there is some clicking sounds in the steering wheel then the power steering light comes on i called they said it was a recall on my power steering but there is nothing they can do because the part has not been made and they cant give me a loaner because they don't have an approval to give out loaner for malibu recall problems. *tr

As i was driving down the highway i was attempting to switch lanes and my power steering went out in my car causing me to almost hit another car, i pulled over and looked under the hood to see where i could put power steering fluid and did not find a pump. i got back in my car and started it up and the power steering was fine, driving down the road 5 miles and it went out again, i pulled over turned the car off and restarted it and it was fine however this continued to happen every 5-10 miles. i was told of a recall concerning this same issue so i called gm and they told me yes there was a recall on the same year make and model of my car for the same thing i was having trouble with however my vin was not included. i had to pay 1,158.00 to have this repaired and i do not feel it is fair. my car had the same issue as the ones under the recall and it is the same make model and year. i feel gm should be responsible. *js
