Problems with 2008 Chevrolet Malibu ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

My electric locks are locking and unlocking randomly and the power steering goes out with message on dash. there is no powersteering until i turn the car off and back on then last for a undetermined amount of time.

2008 chevy malibu engine shut off in mid drive on city highway during high traffic. my wife and children were in the vehicle the check engine light has displayed and continue to code p0365/6. however the camshaft position sensors, the camshaft position actuators, the altenator and the battery have all been replaced. the issue has upset me due to the fact that it is in line with 2 known concerns and reports that have not been answered by chevy or gm. 1) discussion of battery cables being the cause of the problem (unanswered) 2) gm ignition switch recall feb 2014 (which seems to be very in line with this issue). i have taken the vehicle to the chevy dealership and ofcourse paid for a diagnostic to be told "could not duplicate". it is very concerning to me and hard to believe that this was the first time that these symptoms have been reported and no one knows what could be the source. i was able to find forums and reports on both the battery cables and the ignition switch failures. the ignition switch failure were supposedly only issues for specific vehicles however the symptoms within the recorded malibu community are totally in line with the same from that recall. we now also have a problem with the ignition struggling to turnover. this is highly unsafe, financially burdening and stressful on the families who are currently dealing with these concerns with no answer or response in sight. requesting assistance.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet malibu. while driving approximately 35 mph, the reduced engine power warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle lost power. the vehicle was taken to dunn chevrolet buick (located at 3000 dustin rd, oregon, oh 43616, (419) 442-7814) where it was diagnosed that a tune up was needed. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v2520000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electrical system, exterior lighting, vehicle speed control, electronic stability control); however, the dealer declined to perform the recall repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 166,000.

The vehicle stays on and running when i cut the car off and remove the key from the ignition. the vehicle will not turn off even after the key is removed and the doors and closed. my car is currently running and there are no keys in the ignition.

Lighting not working in car, power lock not working, power truck open not working, bad suspension.

Passenger side headlight goes out repeatedly! bad wiring, multiple customers are having this same issue

My 2008 chevy malibu passengers headlight keeps going out every two weeks i been reading a lot about it online and it's a common problem

First time car was in park. then the traction control light comes but doesn't turn off. also message pops up saying to service traction control. next was stationary, i stopped at a light and the car just shut off. next was stationary and the car turned on but then the cluster instrument lights didn't come on it was completely dark. also while in motion car rpm didn't read anymore and it was shifting hard. another thing it says service tire sensor and service airbag

Replaced passenger headlight harness twice, as the low beam/ daytime running light connector burns until the bulb itself burns out, or the connector falls off the bulb. mostly noticed at night, as the automatic headlights are usually needed then.

My vehicle displays the anti theft icon and will not start. so far this has only occured while the vehicle was stationery but has slightly stalled during operation. although this happened randomly in the past, it has now become an everyday occurence. the only thing that has worked is waiting 10mins with the key in the on position and then jumping the battery. this seems to be a none issue with these vehicles and really needs to be addressed. i have loved my malibu and was actually considering purchasing a new one, since i've had such good luck with this one, until this situation.

Takata recall transmission gear shifter cable keeps breaking i was getting ready to put my car in drive and the gear wasn't catching

On different occasions i have sat in my vehicle with out the keys in the ignition and the blower came on then shut back off on its own. i've seen my tail lights flip on and off car locked no one in it fuel gauge not working right as well.

My 2008 chevy malibu has door latch issues. when you close the doors, the latch will not connect and the door will fly back open. we need to keep playing with the locks for the door to eventually latch and lock. then it also sometimes does it from the inside and you cannot open the door from the inside or the outside and you will need to keep playing with it. one day, i had to role the window down to try to open the door from the outside because it wouldn't open from this inside. this is an extreme safety hazard because in the event something catastrophic happens and the door does not open or close they way its supposed to, it can be life threatening. expecially since i have a small son. this needs to be addressed and fast!

2008 chevy malibu passenger side headlight repeatedly has burnt out socket, melting inside. wiring harness and bulb have been changed out three times and issue reoccurs within days. bulb has not been touched. wiring seems in tact. no one seems to be able to resolve this issue, even though this seems to be an extremely common issue on forums. we'd like to be able to use this vehicle and safely. thank you.

While in motion brake light stays on.

Ignition switch (related to the key) fails intermittently causing vehicle to either not start or quit running while driving.

Front low beam lights keep going out replaced low beam bulbs 3 times in 6 months and replaced harnesses once and low beam headlights continues to go out. brake lights stay on when car is started and continues to stay on while driving. 3rd brake light doesn't work all the time. it lights up bright sometime, dim sometime, and other times it don't work at all.

Electronic power steering failure. all of a sudden the message center beeped and gave message power steering and the steering wheel started jerking out of control and could hardly steer. several times after restarting steering would work for awhile. there are recalls on other 2008 but i was told mine had a special warranty that ran out. i just recently bought the car and it isn't right that i would have to pay $1500 to fix this defect. it is a safety issue when all of a sudden your steering wheel jerks out of your hand and moves on its own.

The electric power steering has went out on my car all of a sudden. it also would come back on and while i am driving it will suddenly go out as well. it has been continuously happening.

Ignition heats up and will not start until cools off

My bcm i has terrible wiring connection and the way i bought it someone ran a new wire to the third coil because the bad connect is causing the check engine light to turn on and is shorting out all my emissions parts such as maf sensor, o2s, evap purge solenoid and my car is running like crap and a mechanic said he has had this happen before on the same vechile as mine

I been having issues with my passenger side headlight . thought is was the bulb that didnt work. i then replaced the connection and i worked for a 4 months now it's the same issue again.

I went to the walking track with my 7 year old son to take our dog for a walk. it was hot that day so we waited until evening to go. when we were done, i popped the trunk to put his bike away and unlocked the door, went to start the car and the anti-theft warning light came on (the icon of the car with a lock on it), and my car would not start. got my owners manual out, but it was of no help, so i googled the problem. most people who had this issue said to put the keys in the ignition and turn it to the acc position for 10 minutes, then take the keys out and try to start the car again and it should start. well that didn't work for me, and i guess i had tried too many times to start it, so then it went completely dead and wouldn't do anything. so there i sit, 10 o'clock at night with my 7 year old and our chihuahua, in an empty parking lot with no stores or business close by that were open. not to mention my dog was panting because it was still muggy outside from being 90 degrees that afternoon. i had to call a tow truck, who thankfully came within the hour to help me. i told him the problem and he said it sounded like some kind of sensor issue. so he jumped my car off since i had drained the battery trying to disable the anti-theft system, and it started right up. by the time we got home, though, it was 11:30 at night. anything could have happened to us that late at night, in an empty parking lot, with no where to walk to. this is a known problem with these malibus, and needs to be addressed before something tragic happens and then chevrolet faced with a lawsuit. i will be taking my car to the chevrolet dealer tomorrow, and finding out what the issue is for certain, but i'm quite sure it is the passlock sensor in the ignition that has failed, which other owners have faced as well.

About a month ago my traction control light started coming on and i would have to shut the car off to reset it after that i was notified that my brake lights would stay on while i was driving and would turn off when i hit the brakes pretty much working in reverse now at the moment it is happening all the time and it is making it very unsafe for me and my child to drive in. also when i am driving on the highway my car will shift from fifth gear down to 4th gear and i would have to switch to the manual shift mode to shift correctly due to the car not shifting correct.

My tail lights are not working, they randomly went out however brakes blinker ect all still work multiple forums say people have had the same issue just google it. they went out at night in a canyon, i could have been severely hurt had an officer not noticed.

Brake lights randomly illuminate! while driving down the interstate the brake lights are illuminating. this has been an issue for a while now.

Vehicle was in motion driving on a city street while i was making a left turn onto another city street my steering wheel locked up which enabled me to straighten up my wheel. due to not being able to straighten up my wheel after steering left i was involved in a car accident knocking off my drivers sides headlight and front bumper completely off of my vehicle. after getting the car back home the car would no longer start. the vehicle is now at capitol cheverolet in austin texas and before replacing the recall parts they insisted on a battery replacement i did replace the battery and 3 days later they call and insist on an alternator replacement that will cost me $800 in order for them to start on the replacement/ repairs of the recalls. the battery and alternator all were working in good condition before the power steering issue came about while my vehicle was in motion. i should not be reliable of paying for this. the dealership is also charging me a $65 towing fee!

I work 50 min away from home and i was onnthe highway and in the middle of traffic my steering wheel got hard and i swerved into another lane almost hitting another car so i took it to a shop and they looked it over and told me it was a recall on this problem a long time ago.so i'm wondering why i didn't get notified of this ? and i also told him none of my windows work and he said they recalled out for electrical problems also and now i'm here thank you

Takata recall. i'm complaining about my power steering it go's out when going around corners could cause a crash. as well as transmission shifts funny. cant put it on cruse control when driving cause brake system says active when brsakes not on

A police officer pulled beside me and said my brake lights were not working at all. brake lights will come on and stay on or will not come on at all. took this vechicle to a mechanic and it has to do with the connection with the bcm. thought this was recalled but there is no recalls on my vechicle. i asked some other owners of the same model and they are having the same issues. this is a huge safety hazard.

Vehicle has electrical lighting issues interior and exterior, service air bag and check tire sensor is flashing on the dashboard when u start the car and stays flashing, on some occasions the vehicle randomly throws off the traction and that light comes on

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet malibu. while driving approximately 35 mph, the esc warning indicator illuminated and the steering immediately swung the vehicle left and right uncontrollably. the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road. the contact managed to drive the vehicle to her residence. the dealer was contacted (waldorf chevrolet/cadillac in waldorf, md) and the technician stated that the failure was an unknown issue and scheduled an appointment for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 143,000.

Speed gauge ,fuel gauge, and engine rev garage went dead in mid trip on highway cannot gauge fuel speed or eng rev and temp, properly..

Took vehicle to dealership for recall on the electrical power steering module. after work compleded high stop light works randomly with regular brake lights, front speakers stopped working, dash lights work randomly, serius radio stopped working, when turning on ac does not start working immediately, must romp on gas to create a vacumn drop and after about 3 miles it will start working. have had four sets of brakes and rotors in 155,000 miles. can be moving or stationary for the electrical problem to happen.. supposedly a recall on this problem however since i was over 150,000 miles i am sol.

It saying service power steering. then i can't turn the car. i turn it of and back on then it works. i've had proplems with this car since i bought it.

Purchased 2008 malibu in early 2017. previous owner stated brake lights come on and off on their own. had it checked out was told that their was a recall on it. had recall 13036 work done 3/31/17. still had problems. took to dealer on 7/03/17 was told they couldn't duplicate and no codes they recalibrated bpps. still had problems drove it that way took it back to dealer on 7/06/18. was told same thing and same work performed. same problem occurred. read online that recall didn't solve problem. on 9/10/18 dealer stated been having a lot of same problems with other cars they replaced bcm & brake pedal sensor. had work done. so far seems to have worked. never felt safe while driving with brake lights on and while stopped no brake lights on. can't believe that the manufacturer would let this problem go on as well as dealers

Brake lights illuminate during normal driving when brakes pedal is not being pushed. brake lights then turn off when brake pedal is pushed and don't come back on until brake pedal is pushed at least half way down. cruise control doesn't work when this is happening. problem happens when driving at any speed. this has been happening for about a month this time. was previously fixed under a recall but the fix is not working.

Esc lights, and traction stability control lights come on and off often, regardless of current weather conditions. i noticed it happens more when the weather is cooler. started around 29k miles on my car. when the warning lights come on, my break lights stay on. computer doesn't kick back any codes unless the warning lights that are on.

Traction control light comes on, esc turns off, vehicle sputters when these lights illuminate and engine light blinks while driving down the road, similiar recall for older model was found nhtsa recall 14v252 but my year of vehicle is not included, can this be the same issue

Torque sensor for power steering failure. loss of power steering while driving. shaking of wheel when steering.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the driver side air bag warning indicator illuminated. the dealer diagnosed that the air bag was deploying from the driver seat and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer informed the contact that a sensor failed, but it was not a concern. in addition, the contact observed a leak coming from the vehicle and took the vehicle back to the dealer. it was diagnosed that the head gasket failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, one month later, the contact observed a leak again, the check engine warning indicator illuminated, and an abnormal clicking noise was heard. the dealer diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced due to the head gasket being previously repaired improperly. the engine was replaced. one month later, the vehicle would not start and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the wiring was done improperly and not up to safety standards. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was 93,723.

Headlamp wiring assembly required replacing after pig tail melted creating a potential fire hazard. this occurred twice 12/17/2015 and 12/20/2017. melting occurred each time. this is a fire waiting to happen. invoices for each event are attached

While driving, the vehicles brake lights will suddenly illuminate even when the brakes are not being pressed. when this happens, i tap the brakes and the lights go off, only to turn on again within a few seconds of no longer being pressed. also, in my dash panel i am receiving a "service traction" and "service esc" warning. this occurance has happened before and was corrected in 2014 after a recall was issued - however the same issue is happening again. *tr

Brake lights remained illuminated even if brake pedal was not pushed, both while stationary and in motion. traction control was disabled while in motion. body control module was malfunctioning and had to be replaced. brake lights remained illuminated on all roads, in all conditions, and at all times. traction control was disabled primarily on city streets but sometimes on highways. the chevrolet dealer service department said the cause was a malfunctioning body control module and had to replace it. the problems with the car are the same as those in nhtsa campaign number 14v252000, although a search by vin reveals no outstanding recalls. the vehicle is currently undergoing repair and i will have repair invoices after the repairs are completed. *tr

Takata recall i lost control of my 08 chevy malibu as it was in motion. driving to school the abs, brake, traction control and battery light turned on and the power steering locked. i had to forcefully turn the steering wheel to get out of traffics way and park somewhere to avoid an accident.

On sunday 08/07/2016 my 2008 malibu failed to start. after testing the battery and starter, it was determined by ntb in charleston sc that the ignition switch had failed. i called several chevrolet dealers early on 08/08/2016 to see if they could repair under recall warranty. they said they could not help me the same day, and my car is stranded far from home. if ntb is able to fix the problem so that i can drive my car back home, i strongly believe gm should reimburse me for the cost of repairs and towing.

I have had the transmission totally lock up and sound like braking plactic,had to replace the transmission. dashboad lights either do not work or flicker. fast flashing as if a bulb is out than it fixes itself. numbers running across the radio screen than stops.

The headlights webt off while i was driving. ever since i bought the vehicle my headlights have been having problems.
