Out of nowhere my door lock actuators for all three passenger doors are not working neither is my trunk opening and to make it worse im sitting in my job parking lot with the a/c on waiting for my break to be over and all of a sudden my car starts blowing air from the outside inside the car and i looked at my dash and my temp level was rising to in between 1/2 and 3/4 got out check coolant was fine and everything else checked fine but now everytime i sit in my car with the engine running and my a/c on it only stays on for about 20 mins, then the a/c cut off, starts blowing hot air, and the a/c nor the recirculation will engage it blinks. and to make it worse i smell fuel on my oil dipstick and my car is drinking fuel like water someone please help me. *tr

I was driving when vehicle lost power and car shut off. i put the car in neutral and restarted the motor and this has happened on a few occasions. more recently, at times car will not turn over or crank and the check engine light comes on. then suddenly the car cranks and after some time has passed the check engine light shuts off. i took the car to the dealership and they told me it was the battery. i replaced the battery at the dealership but it still does the same thing. i took the car back to the dealership but the dealership said they could not find the problem. so i took the car to another mechanic and he told me it was the ignition 1 switch circuit 2 (code p1682). *tr

Power door lock quit working on rear door on drivers side and then 3 weeks later the rear door on the passenger side quit working. this is a huge safety issue if you have small children and you think the doors are locked. *tr

Right rear door lock would operate intermittently at first and finally will not unlock at all with auto door lock or key fob. it is also starting to do the same thing on the left rear door lock so i know it will only be a matter of time before it will not unlock either. *tr

While driving 65mph vehicle just died. was not able to start for about 15 mins. this has happened several times nearly causing several accidents. the vehicle intermittently has reduced engine power while driving and jerks from a complete stop sometimes. now the oil engine pressure/turn off engine light and alarm go off all the time. replace the sensor, but to no avail. the loud knocking sound from the dash is utterly annoying. i think the fact that only the police cars got recalled is insane, no matter what the recall was. i'm sure once they took those vehicles in; all the other issues i have mentioned were also fixed. also the rear driver side power lock is faulty and unsafe when traveling with young children. i honestly believe with so many consumers having the exact same problems, gm should issue a recall on these vehicles before several tragedies occur and we then just become statistics. please help. there are so many of us out here with the exact same issues on these impalas who should not have to pay for the repair of something that apparently should be recalled by gm. thank you for your attention to this matter. *tr updated 2/18/2015 *js

the car was performing wonderful for several months. this particular day, i drove to the store, put the car in park, attempt to remove the key from the ignition and it was stuck. after several attempts, i was able to remove the key. this has happened at least once weekly, to once daily. the key would not switch completely off leaving the battery source to drain and having to get boost or replace batteries more often, when the recall was issued, i was somewhat relieved, thinking that this would resolve the issue. fast forward to october 2014, i the key was stuck in the ignition again on the particular day i took the car in for there service. the service person witnessed the key stuck in the ignition. i had to leave the car there and with some manipulation, he was able to remove the key and complete the service call. the service department manager was adamant that this was not a recall issue and that placing a hole in the plastic hub of the key was to relieved the weight to prevent the key from switching off while drive the vehicle. now it is 2015 and this is a continued issue with my car. upon further research (via the web) this is has been problematic with the chevy impala (2006- to present) with other issues to include unable to shift the vehicle of part, or will not start at all. this is not a key cylinder problem. today i contact gm directly (case #71-14632344170) concerning this issue. representative very understanding and attempted to help with this issue. there was a conference call with a local chevy dealership for a diagnostic test and they could not schedule the appointment until next tuesday. understanding the key has been in the ignition switch since last thursday, with the consequences, dead battery (twice), leaving the car running to keep the battery from dying while at clients homes, losing work because i can not leave the car unsecured. *tr

On march 14, 2013, we were accelerating from a complete stop when the service engine light came on and a message appeared in the message console that read "engine power reduced." it was difficult to get the vehicle to accelerate at first, but it then responded after a few seconds. the 'service engine" light stayed on. we took it to an automobile parts store so they could pull the code with a code reader. the vehicle parts store was able to pull a code reading p2138 which is for the throttle position sensor. later on that night, i went online and did some research and discovered that there are many owners of 2008 chevy impalas with the same problem. in the past year, there have been several occasions when my 2008 chevy impala tends to buckle and jerk or hesitate when accelerating from a complete stop making difficult to nearly impossible to navigate out of the way of traffic. is there any way a recall can be issued for the throttle position sensor and the gas pedal so this issue can be resolve for all owners of 2008 chevrolet impalas? please help. *tr

Gear shift stuck in park position. would not shift into any other position. chevrolet mechanic found electrical problem and made following comments on the repair order. found that shift lock control solenoid inop. found that green wire melted about 12 inches from shifter and also connector for shift lock control had high resistance.. repair commented: replaced connector and repaired wire working as designed at this time. mechanic stated that this was not uncommon. also found numerous internet forum comments about this problem.. very serious fire hazard. gm seems to be aware since above repair implies a reworking design of wire working.: evidence of burned wire inside a vehicle should be considered a serious fire hazard. *tr

I was driving on the highway leading into an overpass. as l entered onto the overpass my service traction control, engine power reduced, and service throttle body disabled flash across my dash board, killing the power to my vehicle and locking my steering wheel. while i was stopped unable to move my vehicle, cars flew me and i was almost hit. at one point another vehicle was almost ran off the road due to oncoming traffic trying to dodge me. this was the worst experience of my life. i have never feared for my life like i did at this time. after doing my research online, i have found many others have been in my situation. i was told that my accelerator pedal sensor has gone bad. i feel that gm should be held responsible and needs to remedy the situation before someone is killed. *tr

The right rear door lock works intermittently with my power door lock system on my 2008 chevy impala. also the right front passenger door lock worked intermittently at first and now it does not respond. i have done some research online and i know i am not the only owner of a 2008 chevrolet impala with this problem. pleas help. is there any way a recall can be issued to get this issue fixed? it is impossible to unlock the right rear door from the outside with a key because there is no key hole. there is only one key hole on to unlock a door with the car key and it is on the driver side door only. *tr

The electric door locks lock / unlock intermittently. when the car is started all the door locks should automatically lock, but they do not always lock. in addition, when you park the car and hit the door lock key all the door locks will not lock. when you start the car you have to manually check the door locks to make sure they have all locked. this is a serious safety issue if you have children in the car. in addition, when you park the car, you have to manually maker sure all the door locks actually lock.when i contacted my local dealer about the issue they stated that they had repaired a few vehicles for the door lock failures, but there was no recall. they indicated that the grease used for the locks melted and leaked into the lock solenoid causing the failures. i researched the issue on the internet and found many people who own the 2008/2009 chevy impala and malibu are complaining about the same issue. *tr

I was starting the car up and the engine was going in and out. i noticed that the check engine light was on and it stayed on. the stabili-trac light also came on. the panel also said that the engine was losing power. this happened 2 times within the last 8 days. i stopped the vehicle and turned it off. cranked it back up and the check engine light was still on. took it to the car dealer and they said that it was the throttle position sensor. *tr

Key gets stuck in ignition and will not turn to lock position. the battery runs down after sitting for awhile. i "googled" complaints of this happening and there were hundreds of complaints. the problem lies in the center console of automatic transmission cars. chevrolet designed the wiring harness to drag across the floor while moving the shifter lever from gear to gear. this eventually causes the wires to break. depending on which of the five wires break causes problems with the ignition switch (car won't start, transmission won't shift, steering wheel won't lock, key won't come out are some of the problems). as i stated there are hundreds of complaints and feel to issue a recall by chevrolet would be inline. *tr

I have a problem with removing key from ignition when the car is in park. i have research the data and there are several you tube videos on this same problem...it is a faulty wire (purple) that shifts with the gear and cause the wire to be worn and make the keys unable to be removed from the ignition. this problems happens with the 2006, 2007 and 2008 impala. this cause the battery to die and is a six hundred dollar job should it be taken to a dealer for repair. it should have been a recall. also, i have taken the car to a local dealer for the recent recall, thinking that may have resolved the problem...epic fail. thanks *tr

The left rear door actuator failed and the remote opener and the driver's and passenger's electric locks would not open or lock the left rear door from the inside. i was advised by local gm dealer that this problem does not constitute a safety recall, even though it involved passengers who would be riding in the back seat of the vehicle. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that while parked, the gear shifter became locked and the contact was unable to shift into drive. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where it was confirmed that the electrical system failed. the electrical system was repaired. the manufacturer was contacted. the failure and current mileages were 90,000. the vin was not available.

Both rear and the passenger door locks have stopped functioning with either fob key control or driver/passenger door controls. totaling three door lock failures in two years. this is a large safety hazard to small children in the back of the car as there is no fast or easy way to open the rear doors once locked to get the child out in an emergency. i request this be looked into further for a recall as it creates a safety hazard especially for children in car seat on the back seat, which there is no quick way to unlock the doors to remove them in an emergency. mechanic states: this is a known issue with 2008 and 2009 chevy impala vehicles. these model years were produced with a type of grease that bleeds into the latch actuator. after time the carbon from the motor brushes builds up around the actuator motor and shorts the communicator. resulting in no power lock or unlock function. requiring full lock replacement totaling over $1,500. *tr

Both rear power door locks have failed. they are inoperable from inside the vehicle. this has caused an unsafe condition for the passengers in the rear seats of the vehicle. this in a very common problem with the 2008 impalas. chevrolet is aware of the issue, but has not started a recall to address the issue. *tr

Th engine of my 2008 impala completely shut off on two occasions approximately two years ago after hitting a relatively large pot hole. in the first incident, i was traveling west bound on snell road (oakland township, mi) between orion and rochester road and hit a large pot hole traveling approximately 40 miles per hour and the vehicle engine and electrical system completely shut off. as i recall, i steered the vehicle (manually) to the side of the road, put the vehicle in park, and restarted the engine. no other cars were coming either way. a similar incident happened approximately 3 months later as i was heading eastbound on snell road between mt. vernon and rochester road. when the gm ignition recalls started, i did not correlate these incidents with the recall. however, when i read a newspaper account recently of a gm employee experiencing the same situation with her 2006 impala, i realized it must have been an ignition issue as well. i assumed the 2008 impala would be recalled like the 2006 impala but to date, i the 2008 impala has not yet been recalled. please contact me with any further questions.

The rear lock on the passenger side door will not unlock when the car is switched out of gear or when using the button on the key control. based on information in the internet it is caused by a type of grease that bleeds into the latch actuator and happens frequently to the 2008 chevy impalas. this represents a very serious situation in an emergency situation where a baby, child or adult may not be able to exit the vehicle quickly. hopefully this can be categorized as an emergency recall where chevy will quickly repair this defect at no cost to the owner. ## vin passed ## chevy, impala, 2008 ##. *tr

The power door locks work interrmittenly, both with the remote key fob and the interior door lock buttons often resulting in manually having to use the key to enter the vehicle or physically pulling up the lock once inside the car to unlock a particular door. this is not a battery issue for the remote as i've even noticed on several occasions when using the remote to unlock the driver's door, the door lock register the "input" and attempt to move up to the unlock position, physically look as if something were preventing it from doing so, and remain in the locked position. and, its completely random as for which door lock will operate and there are stretches of days when all locks will operate properly with both the remote and the door lock buttons. also, there is no pattern to which doors will operate as to front/rear, driver/passenger side and/or one, two, three, four, or zero doors locking/unlocking. this situation is extremely inconvenient (particularly when raining), potentially unsafe, and problematic in keeping your vehicle and its contents secure.

The power door lock for the rear driver side door will not operate. it can only be locked or unlocked manually. this becomes a real problem when i have my grandchildren in the back seat. *tr

Picking up grand children at curbside from school the doors fail to unlock causing me to go out in traffic get in the car and start it in order to roll down the windows so that the kids can unlock the doors manually that is if they are not distracted by something. this is a safety issue because you never know what a 4, 6 and 7 year old will do. also the child safety lock feature doesn't work when car is put in drive. *tr

I currently drive a 2008 chevy impala, i've only had the car 1 1/2 and not even a year after i purchased it, i start experiencing the (tcs) traction control sensor - which alternatively reduce the speed of the engine; it happens sporadically,... i took it to auto zone to have a diagnostic performed on the car, and they reader said it was due to a cylinder 5 misfire.... my car is a 6 cylinder, it is dangerous when driving on the highway as when the (tcs) does come on' the reduce engine speed is well under the highway speed limit. other concerns that arise is that sense this sensor has been own, it' has accumulated other sensors' (abs) (!) and the throttle pedal sensor. i have reached out to the gm to see if there was any recall on this, and was advise that nothing has been done. i think this is a huge danger, as this is a commonly used car in the u.s & if there has been several complaints thus far over the same issue, why hasn't anything been done to resolve the issue? what if you've worked hard to drive the vehicle you want;& have to pay out of cost; other than basic maintenance? *tr

Rear door passenger side will not lock or unlock with keyless entry. they lock is also positioned way to the back side of the door making it very troublesome to unlock the door manually. *tr

Every time it rains, or even if the air has been damp overnight, my front in-door speakers fail. the front passenger side, in-door speaker is completely burnt out and the front passenger side door lock actuator has also failed. i called the local dealership who wants to charge me to repair this. there is water leaking into the doors causing electrical failures to occur. once the inside of the doors dry, then the driver's side front door speaker begins to work again. the passenger side front door is completely dead but the window works. *tr

i was traveling on a highway near to my home, and for about a month now the vehicle has come up with an error stating "reduced engine power". suddenly, the vehicle simply stalled itself, coming up with a message that stated "starting disabled/service throttle". i was traveling uphill at 40mph, now with no power brakes, no power steering, and the engine completely shut off and unable to restart. luckily i was able to pull over and disconnect the battery and reconnect it to restart it. what if this had happened on a highway on or off ramp? or on a corner? or with a vehicle traveling behind me? i believe any vehicle that will just randomly turn itself off due to a part that has had hundreds of complaints that i've just read online is unsafe to be driven on america's highways. i read online that this was a prevalent problem with these vehicles, and i hope i get injured because of it so i can sue gm. *tr

2008 chevy impala. right rear door lock began working intermittently. right front followed suit shortly afterwards. now, some 5 months later, the driver door is behaving the same way. it makes transporting my children difficult and unsafe. if there were to be an accident, the children in the back seat are not likely to have the mental capacity to remember to unlock the door which could lead to further injury or death. wiring harness in the center console is poorly designed and located in such a way that the wiring breaks and making it so electrical safety devices do not disengage thus not letting the key be removed, the vehicle not being able to shift from park, and other failures yet to be identified. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that he was unable to unlock the doors by using the automatic key fob. the contact mentioned that the only way to unlock the door was by crawling over the rear seat and manually unlocking the doors from the inside. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who did not diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 71,000 and the current mileage 73,600. updated 04/25/12 *bf

2008 chevrolet impala. consumer writes in regards to recalls and faulty parts on vehicle. *smd the consumer stated he experienced a reduction in engine power continuously, which resulted in the vehicle stalling, in traffic. *jb

I purchased my '08 impala lt used, vehicle was in perfect condition, older owner and was a seasonal vehicle as we live in south florida this owner was a snow bird and only used the vehicle 4 months out of the year. i had the car about 7 months and then i noticed a problem with the locks, they would sometimes not lock/or unlock while using the fob, the interior lock still worked for a few more months and then everything eventually ceased. now nothing works, unless you manually lock/unlock it yourself. problem is.....i have children, small children and when doing 8 other things while getting out of the car, or parking the car and getting out it is such a pain in the a** that i have to go through this with a somewhat newer vehicle!!! i tried replacing the fuse, that didn't work. i can hear the locks click, but nothing happens. well.....i had some work done to the vehicle, new tires and an alignment and had them look into it further, they did and told me the actuators need to be replaced, $1200!!! i almost passed out right there!! for something that was not the direct cause by me how irresponsible of chevrolet to allow these parts to go bad, i did a great amount of research and found this problem with quite a few owners of this very same vehicle, this and the air flow thing that makes a horrible noise, like banging!!! that will be my next complaint!! i found that apparently, the grease from one of the components that is next to actuator is eating away at the part causing it to default!! chevy needs to have this recalled, asap!!! people with small children, who keep them in the back seat could have some serious problems if they are unable to get to their kids.....especially since the locks are all the way towards the rear of the door you cant even reach it from the front seat. this is supposed to me considered a full size sedan, a family car!!! *tr

For a few days i have been smelling a burning smell in my car. i noticed that my rear window defroster had stopped functioning. after a google search i came up on a posting at the naioa website with many people having a connection burn up in the passenger kick panel with pictures posted. i went and looked at my car and the connector was burnt and melted just like everyone else's in the forum posting. this is a connector with many wires in it, and i think could be a fire hazard or safety hazard on the vehicle if the other wires burned or shorted. *tr

The rear door locks will not operate via the electrical. this i believe causes a hazard for a rear seat passenger especially an infant or young child. they could be trapped by the in-ability of the driver to activate the rear door locks to evacuate the rear seat passengers in an emergency. *tr

We are getting ready to have to replace our third set of tires. we bought our impala new and replaced our first set of tires at feb. 2010 (38,000 miles). replaced again at 54,000 miles dec. 2011. replaced again at 65,000 nov. of 2012 and it is in need ot new rear tires again at 72,000. car shakes and back end slides in bad weather. service department states that it needs a cambor kit. research has shown that chevrolet produced a faulty suspension rod and recalled "police owned" vehicles but not consumer vehicles. do not feel safe in vehicle or allowing my 16 year old to drive it. my car is aligned and tires rotated and serviced frequently! tires wear down to metal sticking out of tires and inner wear is incredible. left tire behind the driver is the quickest to have problems and begin to cause car to shake. secondly, rear door automatic door locks quite working after 2 years of owning car. how do i become part of the class action law suit. *tr

Failure of power door locks. this is a safety issue. in order to keep the vehicle secure, the doors must be locked. if a child, infant or disabled person would be in the back seat and needed to get out in an emergency, the door cannot be opened from the outside without someone first climbing through the seats from the front and reaching way back to the back of the door to unlock it manually or breaking the window. this takes time and could result in serious injury or death to a passenger. this problem is known by gm as they have made modification to the part for the rear driver side door but have not yet modified the part for the rear passenger door. some drivers are now reporting that the front doors are also affected by this defect. each part is approximately $175.00 or $700 for all doors affected and probably that much again in labor costs. other complaints and incidents can be found by searching the subject on the internet. *tr

Whenever it is raining or i drive through a puddle of water on the ground, the steering wheel locks up for about 10-15 seconds and the car seems to lose power. i've concluded that this must be some sort of serpentine belt issue as a lot of components are affected at once such as alternator, power steering etc. this is extremely dangerous in my opinion as onset is unpredictable especially in hazardous conditions such as raining and for this reason i dread driving my car when it rains. please someone acknowledge this as a legitimate concern!!! *tr

Noise is being made sounds like in the dashboard. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that while accelerating from a complete stop, the vehicle jerked. in addition, the vehicle failed to shift from park and the ignition key failed to release. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and an authorized dealer who were both unable to locate the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the ignition failed and the vehicle would not start. in addition, the ignition had become stuck and prevented the vehicle from turning off. the failure occurred intermittently for three years. the dealer repaired the vehicle, but the diagnosis was unknown. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 94,134.

Power door locks stopped working. i can open the drivers door with the key, but the other power locks do not open. it started with the rear locks and now includes all locks. this is dangerous because we carry our small grandchildren in their car seats in the back. the only way to unlock the doors is to roll down the power window and reach in to unlock. i have discussed this with chevrolet but they say they have no reports of others having this problem. this is hard to believe since there are so many reports of this on the internet forums. i believe this is a very serious safety issue. in an accident, the rear windows may not function and we would have to break out the rear windows to free our grandchildren. *tr

All 4 door lock actuator have gone out, within a month of each other, was told that this was caused by wear and tear of the vehicle, after 3 years this should not happen, after dealing with gm for over a week, they are willing to pay for half. but come on why should i give them 450$ to repair faulty equipment which are a safety concern, my child safety locks do not work, i can not lock my car when i go in places for fear of not being able to get in, these doors were not mistreated to cause this and after researching this this is a known common problem, i was even told this by a gm customer service specialist, this should not be at the owners expense warranty or not, i do not have the money to fix this so i have to pray that nothing happens to my kids while i have to deal with this issue. *tt

I bought the car in 2009 and it had given me problems since i bought it. a week after i bought the car, the gas sensors went bad, the door handle came off and the locks wouldn't work. that was a $1000 bill. the tire sensors went bad and now the locks are going bad again. ever since then, the blend door actuator, which regulates the heat or recirculating air has consistently gone bad. i have replaced it three times so far and two of the actuators have gone bad again. it makes a loud knocking sound under the dash whether the car is running or not. it also happens when i'm driving. i have called chevy so many times, i remembered the script they read to you. they never helped. it is a $200 repair bill every time it is repaired. i tried to let it burn itself out and it lasted over a year. i was told by a mechanic that it is a problem on 2004-2008 impalas but they never recalled it. it also causes the air to blow cold in the winter. why wasn't a recall done on these vehicles.

2008 chevrolet impala gearshift could not be moved from "park". towed to don brown chevrolet (after tow driver disconnected shift linkage). diagnosed as "test and trace ground circuit to broken wire in center console". talked to service manager who reported that technician stated wires moved when the shifter was moved which likely caused wire to break separate. potential for driver to be "stuck" in park in a risky / unsafe situation exists. *tr

I purchased my 2008 chevy impala in 2009 about a yr after my purchase i noticed my rear drivers side door would not lock or unlock with either the keyless remote or the lock button on the door since then the front passenger door lock has did the same thing. but the final straw was now the rear passenger door has went out. that is unacceptable to me and my family i have two small grandbabies one of them with cancer, that are both in carseats. if any of the doors lock they cannot i repeat cannot be unlocked from the outside nor can they be unlocked from the keyless remote or the button on the door once the doors are locked the only way they can be unlocked is by tilting the seat back and manually unlocking them. this is putting my grandchildren in grave danger if we are in an accident and i cannot get to them no one else can either unless they knock the window out, which endangers the children. i demand to know why when it comes to thousands of children's lives being put in danger by a defect of your product that your company is dragging your feet on recalling these cars. your recalling millions of cars for this defect and that defect but your # 1 priority should be to protect the children that cant protect themselves. and all us parents/grandparents are at our wits end. we bought your product in good faith now its time for your company to do what's right recall all these -2008- and other chevy impalas for faulty door actuators before children get hurt or god forbid killed . very worried and unhappy grandmother. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet impala. the vehicle was parked and shut off. he attempted to unlock the vehicle using the electronic fob. the vehicle would not unlock using the fob so he had to manually unlock the vehicle. upon opening the door he noticed black smoke within the vehicle and a flame ignited in the center of the dashboard. he closed the door and the flame extinguished itself. the fire department appeared on the scene and he was informed there was an electrical fire so the battery was disconnected. the police did not appear on the scene but a fire report was filed. no injuries were reported. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where it was in the process of being examined for the cause of failure. the failure and current mileages were 28,000.

The back doors and the front passenger door will only lock and unlock manually. *tr
