We have classified the 23 complaints from 2000 Chevrolet Impala about EXTERIOR LIGHTING into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet impala. while driving various speeds, the vehicle suddenly shut off and the turn signals malfunctioned intermittently and did not operate. the cause of the failures was not determined. the local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 123,200.
Takata recall my intake manifold have a recall on it and i would like to bring it in to get fixed. i bought the car from an auction. also my fuel flow does not work.
Exterior lights 133,000 miles lights went out on my 2000 impala in may 2014. this is what happened. i had fractured my left rib at home and was driving to the emergency room at mercy hospital when i hit my bright lights, because the road was dark, and all of my lights when out. i pulled over and kept clicking the lights lever and it would go from no lights to bright lights with each click. i got the low beam to finally come back on after several back and forth clicks. the police stopped me that night because i had to use my right hand to click the lights, which is on the left side of the car, which caused me to weave a little. he also observed me pull off the road for a minute, to get lights back on. he said he thought i had been drinking but saw that i was hurt, 65 years old, and i explained how my lights had just gone out on me while i was driving to the emergency room and i had to keep clicking the high beam, low beam, back and forth to make low beam come back. he saw that i was hurt and couldn't use left arm and he saw how i had to lean over with right hand to keep clicking switch to get my low beams to come back on, keeping in mind, i?m in severe pain. i was able to get low beam back on while the officer was standing there and he saw the problem and understood and told me to be careful. no ticket. i don?t use my high beams anymore. also, i have no lights in the cluster, i can't tell my speed, i use my phone to see how fast i'm going and then set the auto drive. i can't see the gas gauge, but the low fuel light works, it will come on and no indoor lights on top of doors. however the red security light on the dashboard works. when i open car door it's completely dark, i have to use a flashlight or my phone to see or look for things. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the turn signal lights, hazard lights, and headlights suddenly failed to activate. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 160,000.
While driving and high beam on, the headlights totally go out. move lever on steering column to activate low beam, the lights come back on. this has happened a number of times and is very scary. *tr
I own a 2000 chevrolet impala. the dimmer switch on the steering column has failed/misfunctioned several times and is now locked in a permanent "hi beam" position. the lights have totally failed in the past. a website named "topix.com" has cited many instances of this type of light failure, resulting in several near misses as regards serious accidents. t is very apparent (and evident from the number of complaints filed with your office) that this is a very serious safety issue for which chevrolet is denying the existence and/or responsibility of any problem. they are simply ignoring this serious issue and trying to charge anywhere from $600 to $800 to fix this problem this problem apparently extends through many model years, from 2000 (or earlier)to 2007/2008. it is only a matter of time before someone driving at night is killed because of this defect. please advise what you have done regarding prior complaints, and what you intend to do to resolve this issue.. *tr
Multi function head light switch i own a 2000 chevrolet impala i was driving home from work the other night the lights went off i had to hold the lever to engage the high beams the lights came back on as long as i held on to the lever. i went to the auto parts store to discover that this was a common problem with chevrolets the replacement part was 330 dollars very expensive . *tr
Turn signals have started not working intermittently. not good if you have to merge into traffic on the highway. i have googled it and found that there are many complaints about this issue although not on this website. most resources say it is the hazard switch. *tr
My daughter with her permit was driving the vehicle and the turn signals stopped working in the middle of traffic. luckily she pulled over safely and i continued to drive home. the hazards worked fine and after some research, the hazard switch is the failure. this has been going on intermittently for a month and finally they would work only one time after car was turned on. my local dealer wanted $400 dollars for a $60 part and labor. thank god for used parts and an easy dash remove only seven bolts instructions online. do it yourself for cheap. my daughter at 16 did most of it as i told her with instructions. i do love chevy will remain loyal but they need to wake up and solve some issues. *tr
I have the exact same problem as this one below. how do i get it resolved before i get killed? consumer complaint: odi case number: 10321063 component: exterior lighting details: turn signals inop (intermittent/ frequent) - wiggling hazard switch makes them function for awhile. found defective oem switch. occurrences: 1 injuries: 0 fail date: 12/01/2009 deaths: 0 date added to database: 3/19/2010 [file] your own complaint on this model car. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet impala. the contact stated while driving at speeds of 50 mph, the high beams were engaged and when set back to low beams, all interior and exterior lights were illuminated on the vehicle. within minutes, the lights would shut off. the failure would occur intermittently for approximately six times. the vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where she was advised that the multi-function switch would need to be replaced. the manufacturer advised having the vehicle diagnosed at an authorized dealer. the dealer confirmed the mechanics diagnosis. the vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic who replaced the switch accordingly. there were no recalls for the failure. the failure mileage was 95,000 and the current mileage was 97,000.
Turn signals inop (intermittent/ frequent) - wiggling hazard switch makes them function for awhile. found defective oem switch. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the combination control switch was defective. whenever the high beams were on and the low beams were activated they would not function independently. the gear lever box that was illuminated at night also failed. the vin was not available. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were approximately 208,000.
2000 chevrolet impala. turn signals quit working intermittently, will start if hazards are pushed. *tr
The turning signals on my 2000 chevrolet impala fail intermittently. i have now had several close calls as a result. a simple search on the internet reveals this is not a unusual problem with these cars. just passing this along in case enough people have the same problem. *tr
I have a 2000 chevy impala and the turn signals flasher stops working every now and then and i found many other complaints online about the same problem. i have to push the hazard switch a few times to get the signals to start working again. it is very hard to tell when the signals stop flashing because the light still comes on and turning without a signal is not only going to get me a ticket but it's dangerous. i also read that chevy had to do a recall on the same type of problem on the malibu but have not issued a recall on the impala. *tr
Turn signals stop working intermittently. it probably happened 1 out of 10 times. the dealership said the unit needed to be replaced. they start working again if the hazard lights are turned on and then off. dealership said the unit needed to be replaced. part $74.00 including labor $220.00. no action has been taken. *tr
My car is a 2000 chevy impala. the high beam switch will not change the lights from low to high. as we all know some roads are darker than others and harder to see at night. i cant put my lights on high beam and 2 nights ago i hit a blown tire off a semi the damage was minimal but could have been fatal. i am a good driver with over a million miles accident free. gm needs to do something about this. i have read about a lot of these cars with the same problem. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet impala. the contact replaced the computer chips for the turn signal and another unspecified component and was charged $268 for the repairs. he stated that his vehicle only had 60,000 miles. the failure mileage was 60,000.
The turn signals and hazard lights on my 2000 impala do not work all the time. the problem has been getting progressively worse. the turn signals may work about 40% of the time. when they do work they may just quit w/o warning. this is a serious safety concern that needs to be address. when the problem first started to occur, i could turn on the hazards and this would jump start the blinkers and they would work for a while. this no longer works, both the hazards and the turn signals are intermittent. i am not the only impala owner to experience this problem. this appear to be a wide spread defect with the impalas. this problem is similar to the following existing vehicle recall for the 2000 chevrolet malibu... campaign number: 03v327000 date: 2003-aug-28 . why was this considered a great enough safety hazard to warrant a recall on the malibu but not on the impala. please investigate this is a serious hazard and needs to be recalled. *tr model year 2000 make: chevy model: impala eng: 3.4 v6
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 chevy impala. the left and right turn signals are inoperable. the contact is aware of the safety risk and the possibility of a crash occurring. the failure mileage 42382. updated 9/17/09 *cn updated 09/18/09.*jb
Just recently my 2000 impala began to give me problems when i used my blinkers. it first began when i just used the left turn signal, all of my warning lights on the cluster came on and the alarm sound of the key being left in the ignition when the switch would be off, yet the engine would be running. later it began to stall the engine. then later it began doing all of this using either turn signal. i have bought each and replaced them even to replacing the cluster as no one has been able to find what is causing all of this. i could really use some help in getting to root of this problem. i am a great-grandmother and am scared to ride them in my car. this has now began happening every time i use the turn signal. good thing i learned the hand signals. i have been a faithful chevrolet person, i would really hate to have to go to another make. *tr
Headlights on this vehicle go out with out warning, and unable to control the headlight bright and dim function with the steering column control lever. this is a very unsafe condition when traveling at night and an internet search pulls up numerous complaints of the same problem with this model car in the 2000-2004 range. what is the status of the investigation for this problem as reported in may 2006? *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet impala ls purchased brand new in 2000. he stated that the exterior turn signals became inoperable intermittently. the manufacturer stated that there were no recalls on his vehicle. the contact was advised that the turn signal switch needed to be replaced. no repairs had been made to the vehicle. the current and failure mileages were under 88,647. updated 01/12/10. *lj the consumer also stated the hazard lights did not work as well. updated 01/13/10
I bought a 00 impala 2 months ago and was driving i rush hour traffic from my heart doctors office well a semi almost hit me from behind because my turn signals stopped working . then i kept pushing the hazard switch finally they came back on. well a couple of days ago i went to get some medicine and almost got hit again. well the turn signals stopped again. i have called and wrote emails to gm and no body will get a hold of me on this. they have recalled the malibus i have found out for this problem well why not the impalas??? i have even checked with an attorney and he told me i should do legal action against them since this is a safety problem. well he wants money up front well i used my money to buy the car. so im asking why and how can we all get together and force gm to recall and fix this problem?????i have other problems but im fine with them ,i just want to get my turn signals fixed, and not at my expense. *tr
No events leading up to the failure. hazard lights sometimes stop working along with the turn signals pressing the hazard light switch will sometimes correct the issue. *tr
Veh: 200 chevy impala ls yr:2000 fault: in the past few weeks this vech. has been experiencing faulty turn signals. sometimes they work and sometimes they stop, and then after cycling the hazard switch they return. i have researched the internet seeking information and i found that gm has done a recall on certain models in the same class year. i also contact the dealer and they said impala was not part of the recall even if the switch was the same used in the malibu. (recalled) nhtsa recall number 03v327. i am now unable to purchase a switch in the market because of the recall and the supply has been depleted. (told that from the dealer). in my mind gm should be conducting another recall before someone has an accident. *tr
Turn signal will go out at random times and work again once i hit the hazard switch. *tr
Low beam lights went out. after reading other complaints from this website http://www.carsmart.com/content/research/forums/index.cfm/action/posts/fid/136 i decided that something should be done at gm in line of a recall. this can cause an accident when you all of a sudden don"t have any lights. and if you drive with your high beams on you can blind oncoming drivers. my car is a 2000 chevrolet impala. *tr
I have been experiencing frequent (every day) turn signal failures with my 2000 impala ls. my impala has the 3.8 liter motor and 94,000 miles. the hazard switch seems to be the reason for the failure. i have looked at several online "auto help forums" and this problem is an epidemic around the nation. gm has recalled malibu models for the same exact problem but not impalas. the switch is a $50 part but gm wants $300-$400 to replace it. it is a safety hazard that gm is aware of. please force their hand in this safety matter. thank you. *tr
Turn signals do not work all the time. *jb
Vehicles turn signals stop working intermittently and sometimes will not allow the hazard lights to work. this poses a serious safety risk - i was stopped in a dark unlit area when my vehicle broke down and vehicles were unable to see my car or myself. *tr
Turn signals not working with no apparent reason. this issue will happen and then start working and then quit again. nothing has been able to help the issue. *tr
Turn signals fail to operate when lever is moved or stop working when activated. the only way to recover from problem is to press the hazard switch. then the signals operate correctly. intermittent problem that occurs about once a week. dealer said there is nothing they can do even though there is a recall for this very problem on malibu and pontiac cars. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet impala. while driving 40 mph, the turn signals would not work. the contact stated that he had to activate the emergency lights to get the turn signal to work. when he accelerated, the fuel gauge moved to full and the air bag light illuminated. the contact stated that when he drove over a speed bump, the vehicle shut off. he was able to restart the vehicle after waiting approximately thirty seconds. the dealer has not inspected the vehicle. the powertrain was unknown. the failure mileage was 170,000 and current mileage was 182,215.
Turn signals only working intermittently - mechanic unable to duplicate problem on test drives. this is definitely an unsafe condition on thruway and expressway driving where lane changing and use of signals are needed to use off and on ramps. i have done enough research and seen enough reports of this same issue with both the impala and the malibu to be quite sure there is a defect in the manner in which this equipment was manufactured or assembled. i am requesting a recall be issued to correct what appears to be a great number of vehicles on the road with this same unsafe condition before it results in a fatality. *jb
The turn signals do not work. they cut out on you at the few times that they come on. this is dangerous. *tr
Turn signals functionality intermittently fails. my automobile turn signals failure rate is an estimated 20 percent. i drive my vehicle never knowing when the operation of the turn signals will fail. this is a hazard to myself as well as to others. i have read other 2000 impala owners complaints concerning this same issue on www.carcomplaints.com. i have discussed this problem with a chevrolet dealership. they claimed that no recalls or service bulletins existed concerning the turn signals intermittent failure. i have tried to determine what was causing this problem. obviously, it isn't a blown fuse. is it a electrical connection, a malfunction of a electrical switch or the turn signal unit? *nm
Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle's turn signal intermittently did not work while trying to signal in any direction. also the hazard lights failed to illuminate, when the hazard lights button was depressed. the dealer was contacted, and determined that the contact may need to replace the turn signal. the contact found many other consumers with the same model who had this same problem. the vehicle was not repaired.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving at various speeds, the headlights go on and off intermittently at night. this last from 30 seconds to 1 minute. the vehicle was taken to the local dealership for inspection. the dealer could not duplicate the problem and no repairs were made.
Turn signal not working right sometime they work and sometime they don't. *nm
Turn signal flasher failure. *jb
Experiencing problems in my 2000 chevrolet impala similar to the following existing vehicle recall for the 2000 chevrolet malibu... campaign number: 03v327000 date: 2003-aug-28. *jb component: exterior lighting: hazard flashing warning lights: switch defect summary: certain passenger vehicles have hazard warning switches that may experience solder joint cracking caused by rapid temperature transitions and the soldering process. if solder joint cracking occurs and results in an open circuit, the turn signals/hazard lamps become intermittent or inoperative. consequence summary: when the turn signals are inoperative, the driver cannot use them to signal intent to turn that could result in a crash. ...the result is intermittent and unpredictable loss of turn signal operation while driving. this has led to inability to signal intent of driver during a turn, lane change, etc. and could potentially result in a vehicle crash.*jb

Dt: the contact stated the turn signal worked intermittently. this has been occurring for approximately one year. when the turn signals were not working he could press the hazard light switch and the turn signals would activate. nothing has been done to correct the problem. during an oil change a mechanic determined that the lower intake manifold gasket was leaking. the manufacturer was contacted and offered to pay for half of the repairs. the repairs have not been made. *ak the replaced the hazard switch warning light. updated 01/11/06. *jb
I own a 2000 impala. from time to time, the turn signals will stop blinking or will not blink at all. if i turn the emergency flashers on and off, they will resume blinking.*ak i know of a malibu with this same problem. when i mentioned this to the service department where i purchased the vehichle, they knew what the problem was but said there were only recalls on two models and mine was not one of them. this has not caused an accident but i think it is a safety problem.
Dt: 2000 chevrolet impala - the turn signals and hazard lights work intermittently. the turn signals will work for a few seconds at normal speed and then they just stop working. this has been happening since purchasing the car about a year ago. took vehicle to a mechanic and he could not find the reason why this was happening. consumer has not contacted the dealership or manufacturer. consumer did research and found no recall on this vehicle, but there werecomplaints about this same problem. *ak
