My 2000 chevy impala the engine coolant is leaking into the engine manifold. this is causing my car to constantly be low on coolant, loss of gas mileage, and poor performance. this is a blatant manufacturers defect that should be taken care of by gmc. *nm

I have a 2000 chevrolet impala and it only has 54,000 miles on it. and i had to put a new intake gasket on it. the mechanic said that was a problem with all 3.1 and 3.4 chev engines. how many others have paid for chevrolet mistake. should this not be a recall. *ak

Dt: the consumer stated while stopping at a red light a strange odor entered the vehicle followed by a loss of power steering. he managed to drive the vehicle to the dealer, where the dealer determined that vehicle was leaking power steering fluid. the dealer replaced the power steering fluid hose at the consumer expense. *ak the consumer was told the serpentine needed to be replaced. there was damage to the suspension. updated 01/11/06. *jb

My 2000 chevy impala hesitates when it starts, it seems to get worst when it is about 90 degrees outside. dealer replaced a couple of parts, but now the said they can't do anything else about it. i said that the should replace the engine for a new one. i am just a consumer. *jb

Engine shuts down for no apparent reason. almost like someone turned the ignition switch off. i purchased this 2000 chev. impala ls in may 2005. on may 30, the engine coughed once but continued running smoothly, so i didn't consider it a problem. then june 29 it coughed again but continued running smoothly. that evening on the way home from work with no warning, the engine just quit running. after it sat on the side of the road for a few minutes, i was able to start it and continue on my drive home. since then, between july 5 and august 10, the engine shut down 7 times. 3 of those were on august 10. each time, after a few minutes, i was able to restart it. i took it to a dealer for repair(power chevrolet, irvine, ca),on august 12, after a short diagnosis, the complaint was signed off as" road test 5 miles unable to duplicate customer concern. throttle body dirty, cleaned throttle body" since there had been a recall on a fuel pressure regulator the service rep. had it replaced. i didn't receive the old regulator, but it didn't cure the problem of the engine shutting down for no apparent reason, because on august 22 it did it again (twice). someone at gm needs to determine the cause of this problem and inform the service personnel of the fix. an inexperienced driver could be in real trouble if this happened.

2000 chevrolet impala leaking intake manifold gasket. vin# [xxx]. car purchased new. currently with only 21500 miles 3.4 engine. gm has a tsb on the issue. replacement = gasket of different material. quote for repair at local dealership $900. !*ak *js information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

While driving 20 mph consumer heard a knocing noise coming from the engine compartment. dealrship was notifed, but did not resolve the problem.*ak

Consume stated vehicle was parked for one week, and upon getting back from vacation, consumer started the vehicle, and it blew up. everything under the hood was broken in little pieces. contacted the dealer. the vehicle was supposedly fixed. *ak

Leak of coolant, low coolant light. *jb

Intake manifold gasket leaking. low coolant light came on. repair is approx $900.00 at the dealer, beardmore chevrolet. in checking for a cheaper repair price, several mechanics stated they have replaced lots of these on the impala. sounds like a defect. repair is being done today, 2 dec 04 at beardmore chevrolet, bellevue nebraska. *ak

Dt: the contact stated the turn signal worked intermittently. this has been occurring for approximately one year. when the turn signals were not working he could press the hazard light switch and the turn signals would activate. nothing has been done to correct the problem. during an oil change a mechanic determined that the lower intake manifold gasket was leaking. the manufacturer was contacted and offered to pay for half of the repairs. the repairs have not been made. *ak the replaced the hazard switch warning light. updated 01/11/06. *jb

I filed this same complaint last year at the same time. the car operated fine for exactly one whole year after dealership replaced the fuel regulator. the failure is that the vehicle stalls while driving. when this occurs there is a total loss of power and control of the car. i am unable to steer, stop, everything locks up. the consequences of driving a car like this is me losing my life. on 11/29/04 is when the problem recurred. then on 11/30 as i was driving to work it stalled with a public transportation bus on my tail, the car loss power. the bus driver was honking his horn and flashing his lights but showed little signs of slowing down for a car that was stalled out. i feel these vehicles with this problem should be totally recalled until the manufacturer can determine what is causing the problem. i am willing to allow them to troubleshoot my car to every extent. it has been at the dealership for almost 2 weeks and all they can say is to continue driving the car until it gets worse. that is definitely not an option as i did last year and they still were not able to fix the car. these cars are going to cause someone to lose their life if they haven't already and something needs to be done about it a.s.a.p. i refuse to pick up my car from the dealer until they have a fix, i also refuse to make another payment on the car until it is in working condition. i feel that either this car will explode on me the next time i attempt to crank it or i am going to be killed when it stalls while i am driving. my life is way more valuable than this car will ever be worth to anyone. i didn't get much assistance from you last year when i filed this complaint so i am hoping you have a new insight on the seriousness this car poses. *jb

Coolant refill bottle has been refilled several times but coolant level keeps going down. took auto to shop for tires and mechanic notified me that intake manifold was leaking coolant into oil due to defective intake manifold gasket. mechanic is aware of multiple occurances of this problem with 2000 chev impala. checked web site and found thousands of people experiencing same problem with no satisfaction from manufacturer.

My 2000 chevrolet impala recently started making very loud gurgling sounds. i took it to my local dealership and told them my complaint and asked them to flush the cooling system. i picked up my vehicle and make a three day trip and upon returning to my driveway the gurgling sounds began. i called the dealership and made appointment to bring my vehicle back to them. after they pressure tested my vehicle they said i needed a chemical flush due to all the rust they found. i asked them why they didn't see the rust a few days earlier and was told that they felt the first flush must have broken the rust loose and they didn't see anything like that 7 days ago. they then quoted me $400 to do a chemical flush. i took the vehicle to another repair place and when he removed the cap it was covered with brown sludge-looking gunk. a year previously, when i saw the news about dex-cool, i had asked at the dealership (during one of my routine services) if my car was affected and was assured it was not. i have taken my vehicle to an independent garage to have the repairs made and it was there that i was told that all of this damage was due to dex-cool and that they see vehicles constantly with similar damage.*ak

Car has problems with rough start and/or engine stalling within the first minute after starting it. sometimes it coughs/chugs/rpms rev immediately when you start it. other times when you pull out into traffic and push on the gas pedal the car will chug and completely stop moving as if it's run out of gas. it's only been a miracle that i have not be broadsided yet. i have owned the car since march of 2001 and this has happened around 4-5 times a week since then. i have brought the car in for service probably 6 times to try and correct the problem as it is a dangerous one, and each time has been unsuccessful. nobody can recreate the problem in order to fix it. i have had my computer system updated, and most recently they pressure washed my fuel injectors in hopes that that would cure the problem. it only remains a matter of time before there's a bad accident.*ak

While driving, the vehicle stalled. the consumer restarted vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. however, the mechanic could not duplicate the problem. the consumer informed the mechanic this problem occurred more than once, and the problem still had not been resolved. *ak *sc *jb

Plastic by pass tube from intake manifold to water pump cracked, causing antifreeze to leak out at a rapid amount. can't believe that the tube is made out of plastic since it is in contact with the intake manifold which is very hot. fortunately my wife and son were just around the corner from our house and not on the trip to ohio which was planned. only going about 10 mph when noticed a gurgling sound. got out of car and saw fluid leaking. came back to house and i checked it out and found that the plastic tube above the water pump leading into the manifold was indeed the problem. took car to chevrolet dealership. they replaced the by pass tube at a hefty cost of $262.38.*ak

Whiel driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled. this caused the driver to drift to the side of the road. the consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealership. the mechanic informed the owner that the intake manifold had failed. please provide any further details. *jb

Ongoing problem with stalling while driving 65 mph. the vehicle had been to the dealer on 4 separate occasions and they were unable to duplicate the problem. *ak the vehicle stalled without no warning or indicator lights. the engine just shut off during highway/city driving. the engine would restart after you put the vehicle into neutral and start with the key. *tc *jb

Intake manifold gaskets leaking. after speaking with numerous people and a gm service member it seems very clear that there is a problem with the gaskets on the gm 3100 and 3400 engines. *ak

Coolant leaking from intake manifold gasket. dealer indicates that they all did that. were suprised mine lasted as long as it did. gm said they wouldn't help with the cost.*ak

Failed manifold gaskets on 2000 3.4 engine used in most gm cars. gm is insufficiently dealing with or trying to keep from becoming a recall. mine was the 5th 2000 impala this week with the same problem (its only wednesday). expect to pay $250+ for repair. mechanic says gm installed wrong size manifold bolts during assembly (dealer repair kit comes with correct, but different, bolts).*ak

Persistent coolant leak due to faulty intake manifold gasket. *ak

Premature failure of intake manifold gasket causing leaking of coolent and oil mix. *jb

Failed manifold gaskets involving alot of cars that gm is insufficiently dealing with or trying to keep from becoming a recall on the 2000 chevrolet impala, 3.4 engine.*ak

Had to replace thermost and gasket, melted pvc, 6 spark plugs upper intake manifold assembly and gaskets and serp belt because of a broken plastic piece where erg valve sets in manifold assembly, engine coolent leaking into cylinders creating hydro lock. *ak

2000 chevrolet impala. premature failure of the intake manifold gasket. the leak appears in the gasket that is directly next to the stove pipe from the exhast manifold. it appears the high temperature from the the stove pipe is deteriorating the gasket in the intake manifold. this has every indication of an engineering defect due to the number of complaints on this same problem. other similar problems were discovered in impala with vin type k mine is type e see tsb 03034.*ak

Leaking intake manifold gasket on a 2000 chevy impala with the 3.4 ltr engine costing several hundred dollars in repairs and possible engine damage. *la

Intake manifold leak

Intake manifold gasket leaking from dex cool. also, intake bolts were backing out.*ak

The intake manifold is leaking antifreeze into the engine. the dealer repaired the seal under a safety campaign but the manifold still leaks. please provide further details. *ph

Consumer stated took vehicle in for an oil change, and was told that there was oil around the radiator cap. mechanic told consumer that manifold was leaking oil, and that this was an internal oil leak. also, consumer was told that the seals had to be replaced. in addition, mechanic told consumer that gmc issued recall regarding intake manifold leak, but that this vehicle's was not included due to vin. *ak.

Engine dies suddenly with no warning. at speeds of 40 - 60. very dangerous situation. second 2000 impala i have had with this problem. problem started with first impala at 4000 miles, now 50000 on this one. lots of other 2000 impalas with same problem but gm has no fix. *la

Intermittently while driving between 30 and 35 mph engine stalled, forcing the consumer to pull over. waited 10 to 15 minutes to restart the vehicle. dealer didn't know what was wrong with the vehicle.*ak

Vechicle stalls at full speed on the highway, or at coming to stops. feel slight hestiation and rough idyling. had car computer upgraded/calibrated twice, but still experiencing stalls.

Intake gasket leaking @ 60k on a 2000 chevy impala, 3.4 v6, gm dealer informed me on a $500 repair bill and noted that this is a common problem, but no recall. gm needs to have a recall on this expensive gasket failure. *jb

While driving at 25-35 mph vehicle stalled and died without warning. dealer inspected vehicle several times, but problem still recurring.

After car has been driven and the engine is hot and you attempt to restart it, it just shuts back off. there is no significant sound when it does this, it just shuts down as if the ignition was turned off. it now takes about 3-6 attempts before the car will start. it has even progressed to shutting off while driving, again no signs of the car being off until i noticed the wheel was locked up. i have been back and forth between the dealer and the manufacturer to get the problem addressed. the fact that it now shuts off while driving poses a serious danger to me and other drivers.

Intake manifold gasket. *jb

The problem im noticing is that my car has dexcool in it. i have noticed in the past few months that my car runs a little hotter than normal. i have also noticed that the coolant resivoir looks all corroded. if you take a look at this coolant in the resivoir it looks really clumpy and seems to have some rust in it. i purchased this vehicle in 2000 . it's a 2000 chevy impala. and the bad thing about it is that chevy stands by this coolant saying" it's good for 115,000 or so or 3 years." i totally disagree. i have did my own research on this matter and found that there is thousands of people that are having to pay big$$$ to have repairs done that are caused by this coolant corroding inside the engine. chevy should recall this junk, suck up any repair cost. i need to have this problem addressed.

Intake manifold gaskets went costing over $600 dollars to replace at local chevy dealership, assumed this was just a slight problem but i see it happening to a lot of impalas... i know there's been a recall but not on the 3.4's something needs to be done about this since chevy knows there is a major problem here... *la

The vehicle caught on fire under the hood, while parked. *jb

While driving oil leaked from underneath the vehicle. the lower intake manifold gasket leaked twice within 50,000. *nlm *cb *jb

Check engine light keeps indicating egr valve problem. has been replaced 4 times. worse in the cold weather than in summer. also, check coolant light came on long trips, then went off. had to spend $800 to replace cover. *nlm

The vehicle over heated, however the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem. *jb

My vehicle has been serviced at fairway on several occasions, which included a similar problem over a year ago that was still under warranty. this was for a cracked coolant container after i noticed the low coolant light came on my message center. this same problem is what brought me in for my recent visit. i wanted to find out why this light was coming on again. this time, the answer was $1012.70. coincidentally, this is 3 months after my warranty expired. *nlm

A/c emits foul odors (mold/mildew). brakes pulsate, warning & abs lights come on. check engine lights come on, stalled once, uncontrolled acceleration from start up twice. steering: intermediate shaft replaced at 42,618 miles; rack & pinion leaking at 65,307 popping & muffled explosion sound in cold weather start ups, paint peeled off front & bumper of car. weather stripping adhesive liquifies on door posts in hot weather. airbag warning light comes on

Low coolant light on our 2000 impala was coming on and the lower intake was found to be leaking - cost $600 to repair. received a recall notice on our 2003 impala for this condition. requested reimbursement for our 2000 impala repair and was denied.*ak

The engine stalled without warning. *jb

Plastic upper intake manifold warped, allowing coolant to leak (supposedly not into engine). i believe a recall exists for the 3.8 liter "generation ii" engine in other applications, but not in the 2000 (and later) chevrolet impala. repair was made at my expense (outside warranty period), but i believe this vehicle should be included in gm's recall.
