The car didn't start after parking for food pickup, we noticed that after getting a boost, the 'engine light' was lit, it stayed on. this happened twice again, but we used our insurance road side assistance, again the 'engine light' remained lit. this has happened multiple times, whereas we purchased a battery charger. during drive/ waiting at multiple red lights, and backing out of parking spaces, the car stalls- to the point we put it 'n', after experiencing stalls when placed in 'p'. the oil can be low, but no indicator on the panel, but the panel reads check electrical system, so we took it to a shop and informed it was the battery, seeking another opinion, we were told it wasn't the battery, but another part of the electrical system. upon trying to have the car inspected, we were turned down due to the 'engine light'. we went to a reputable car part dealer, and informed it was the timing chain, timing sensor, along with (2) two other codes. the battery is hid under a housing/ cover, which made it hard to get a boost, when the recommended charging procedure didn't work. this is very frustrating, and research leads us to understand, that a costly repair is ahead. plus, our research of the experienced problems, shows that they occurred in earlier models. the (2013)vehicle was purchased from a national car rental agency, nov 2015, is it possible that this vehicle was defective at purchase time, with unresolved issues as earlier models? additionally, the car has veered/ jerked to either side, from stop to go, and while driving, without us turning the wheel. thank the lord the latter, occurred at low speeds, and dry pavement. the 'when did this happen' date is the latest date, not the only date.
Excessive oil consumption issue . i had to have the dealer check the oil consumption every 1000 mi for 3000 mi for documentation. at the end of that 3000 mi the car was low 4.5 quarts of oil. per gm that is within their 'specs' and will not pay for the repairs needed ie; pistons and piston rings at this point.. even though this is a known gm issue on this vehicle. the car shakes and dies when stopping and idling. runs terrible and you can hear the rattles in the engine. no oil light has ever come on in the car even though there were times it was checked and there was no oil in it. see the attached documentation of service documentation below. i also have a service request number of sr 8-355-8368066 within gm which has been escalated and closed. i called gm again and was given a new service request to be assigned to a new sr service adviser, 8-391-1491891. #13-06-01-003h: excessive oil consumption ' perform oil consumption test and/or install piston and piston ring kit ' (feb 9, 2016)
I bought my equinox used in 2014...i have been going thru excessive oil consumption...1 quart every 1000 miles...and no lights to indicate low oil...it has an extremely rough idle...and will die at stop lights...this is a nightmare for a single parent...i have taken this in to many service repair facilities...only to be told there is nothing wrong...so upon doing research...i'm finding a majority amount of vehicles are experiencing this...and nothing is being done...i've purchased nothing but chevrolet products since i have been old enough to buy my own vehicles...i would just like a dependable vehicle that i paid good money for...not one i have to keep sinking money into...this had been going on since november 2016...
I car is consuming excessive oil. my car was completely out of oil 2 weeks after an oil change, the car was making a loud noise and hesitating when you stepped on the gas. the piston rings and seals are bad. i am 19,000 miles over the warranty. gm is covering the 2011&2012 model up to 120000 miles. i took it to the dealer and the did an oil consumption test. they called chevy and they would not cover it. they offered to pay 10% of the repair. i owe a lot of money on this car, it is a known failure and there should be a recall.
Excessive oil consumption similar to previous years has been occurring in our vehicle. no warning on low oil levels. less than three thousand mile since oil change and already down 3 quarts with no warning,
The engine of my chevrolet equinox has been burning off way too much oil. i have seen online that this is an issue with many equinoxs. after taking it into the dealership, i was told that the piston rings are not sealing, and thus letting more oil through to be burned. the estimated cost for repair is 3300 dollars. considering it is an engine failure, gm should be on the line for that cost. it is also dangerous, as no check engine light came on when my oil was dramatically low long before i was due for an oil change. overall a dangerous factor.
Extremely rough idle and vehicle stalls at red lights. check engine light stays on. excessive engine oil consumption. oil is gone in between recommended oil changes; dip stick doesn't register oil.
Gm is aware of an oil consumption issue on 2010my+ chevy equinox and gmc terrain with the 2.4l ecotec engine. they have so far issued service bulletins for 2010-2012my to replace the piston rings and timing chain because in this situation, the timing chain can stretch causing it to skip several teeth and cause engine damage. i complained about excessive oil consumption (1 quart every ~1000 miles) to the dealer. the dealer is instructed to do an oil consumption test by gm. 200 miles after we began this oil consumption test, i started the car one morning and there were loud sounds coming from the engine compartment. i called for a tow to the dealer and they said the engine was severely damaged and a new engine is recommended. gm doesn't want to take ownership for this known issue. bulletin sb-10058791-5041
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the vehicle consumed an excessive amount of oil. the contact had to add oil after every 500 miles. the dealer (walker chevrolet, 3940 carothers pkwy, franklin, tn 37067) stated that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 70,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the vehicle consumed an excessive amount of oil. the failure caused the oil levels in the vehicle to be low no matter how much oil was added to the vehicle. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that there were no open recalls and could not assist. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 109,000.
In 2013, i actually called the dealership to inquire about some smoke coming from front of car during rain/snow, and some shaking while stopped in traffic. i was informed these were normal functions due to the climatic weather and braking system. i took them at their word. in the summer of 2017 whilst driving to work, the car cut off, and the check engine light came on. i took it to my mechanic, and was told the oil had burned very low. should a 2013 burn completely out of oil in three months? i had to get an oil change, replacement of intake and exhaust camshaft position solenoids. it wasn't until i had the almost exact issue happen in jan, 2018 that i was informed that the engine was burning oil at a high speed. there is a recall on my make model and year vehicle (see below for report) that mirror the exact issues that i have been experiencing since 2017. however, upon contacting gmc, i was told that my vin is not part of the recall, therefore gmc will not replace the engine, though i am experiencing the exact same issues that are on the recall report. i am constantly in fear that my car will shutoff whilst i am driving. i have had two oil changes within a month, because the oil burns that quick. i am now on my second oil consumption test, but i know once the testing is complete, i will have the same problems, due to the engine burning oil at an astronomical rate. shaking/shutdown, i rent cars for long distance travel due to fear. initially, dealer rep said i didn't have to change oil for 5,000 miles. ithin a months time (jun-jul 2018), i had two oil changes. a dye test was done in july, because though no oil was evident, service depart assumed must be a leak for oil to be so low. test showed "no" leak. car ticks, mechanic says due to engine needing replaced. gmc/chevy refuse. the repair report says "car runs fine" my car was towed to dealership, wasn't running.
Check engine light comes on and off for no reason. rpms spike when ideling and vehicle physically jumps forward. vehicle turns off while driving when coming to stop at intersection.
Intake cam solenoid - cam actuator sticking. needs actuator and solenoid replaced01/
Oil consumption - car doesn't alert when low on oil uses over 3 quarts between oil changes. if no oil car will shut off while driving. very dangerous. previous years have been recalled but not 2013 and newer.
Engine light came on, had it serviced. engine light came on again on the way to store and we lost power of car, steering locked. we were able to barely get it to the side of the highway almost getting rear ended by a semi. car completely died and a huge pool of oil came out from under the car. paid over $6,000 for a new engine and wiring and other parts because of the oil, because we were told there was not a recall. guess what... drinking oil, oil leak, service engine light on. this was a new engine. spent a bunch of money on car in 2014 have had major trouble with it!!! we are not made of money, but this 2013 is the worst car and dangerous too, despite what they say!!!!
6 months after purchase car began stalling. vehicle always was low on oil, even with proper maintenance. loss of acceleration speed and stalling became usual. finally after filling the tank it stalled and would not start so we had it towed. timing chain was the reason given so $3600 later i figured it was fixed. not the case. oil was still having to be added and 1.5 years later while driving, the motor has blown. we still owe 9k on a car that is inoperable and also usaa requires us to keep our insurance. i
Excessive oil consumption, went to the dealership after speaking with a chevy owner who had the same issue and had his engine completely rebuild by gm. i was over the 100,000 mile power train warranty by 1000 miles by the time i learned of the issue. i specifically told the lady at the dealership that i was over 100k miles and she said it wouldn't be a problem. the gm dealership said they couldn't help me with oil consumption monitoring test and there was nothing they could do once i got there.the 2012 equinox just received an extended warranty for 7.5 years or 120k to have the consumption test and engine repairs done. i now have 119k on my vehicle and have had the issue with the engine and oil consumption since around 80k. gm put a bad engine in this vehicle and they know it but will do nothing to fix it. i have owned chevy's for over 15 years and have never had any significant problems. gm needs to do right by their loyal customers. if the engine is bad recall it because i know several owners in the same position as me and we are looking to take our business elsewhere in the future. i have always been a chevy "american" man but you have been producing a cheap product and increasing the cost. fix your mistake and take ownership of the problem and you will retain your customers or gouge hardworking people over an issue you know is your fault and lose them.
Started burning oil too quickly which ruined the engine. we were using the upper grade oil and having to change it before 3000 miles due to car shaking. we had to get a new engine . car completely shut down in motion on a country road
Engine stalls at low rpm. over the last few months at random times from reverse / backing up the engine would stall. the engine has stalled at red lights when staking off at low rpms, causing people behind me to stop suddenly while i have to put the car in park and start the engine.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet equinox. while driving various speeds, a rattling noise could be heard coming from the engine. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a clog positive crank case ventilation and the oil seals, manifold, and pcv valve needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000.
2.4l eco tech engines have a design flaw which is described in service bulletin no.: 14882 and apparently this bulletin was only sent to some owners but not all owners and the issue is the pcv orfice gets plugged with ice in the winter causing pressure to build in the engine which in turn causes the rear main seal to fail on the engine. even though my equinox had this 2.4l ecotech engine and i did all the required maintenance as required gm failed to send me this notice (which they told me that did not send it to me since i did not have an eco tech which i did) but they also extended the warranty to fix it until 10 years or 120,000 miles and mine failed at 4 years and 125,000 so of course they have refused to fix or reimburse me for my out of pocket costs for something that could have been prevented if i would have been told about it. also my truck just lost power as i was driving and this could have cause a huge safety issue if i had been on a busy freeway at the time. i was driving on a county road at the time just before entering a freeway when this failure happened. if i would have been sent the service bulletin i could have prevented a total engine failure by having the issue looked at and dealt with prior to this incident .
Burns through oil! i am constantly having to keep an eye on the oil level way before it is due for an oil change. also, dies if you are slowly taking off. i was told due to oil issue this is the result. why is there not a recall on oil issues. i have seen to many complaints not to look into it more.
I had 100,000 miles on my chevy equinox and in december with out warning the engine blew up. i had recently had a oil change but was told the engine barely had any oil. i had arrived at a doctors office was there for a hour and when i went to start my car it was completely dead. i had to replace the engine.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet equinox. when the vehicle was placed in reverse, it stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the failure was intermittent. the dealer diagnosed that the camshaft position sensor and actuator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
This vehicle has had oil consumption problem for 3 years they replaced rings and all they said its common on this car well if it's common recall this car and replace the engine
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the engine failed several times. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the camshaft needed to be replaced. the camshaft was replaced; however, the failure was not corrected and the vehicle continued to stall. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 64,823.
Vehicle shuts off while in drive , loosing all power to throttle , power steering and all other components of vehicle. this has begun happening over the last three days after having the vehicle for only three months. the vehicle currently has 39,000 miles on it . today while traveling 70 mph on the highway the car shut off causing me to have to fight the cars steering to safely bring it to a complete stop in the breakdown lane. i had to put the car into park remove the key from the ignition and then re insert key and re start the vehicle.
Fire started while car was sitting in driveway. fire department said it was a electrical fire that started near the fuse box. fire burned through firewall and continued up the ceiling console. this car is usually parked in my garage, with my bedroom right above. fire started around 12:30am.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet equinox. while the vehicle was stationary, exhaust fumes entered into the cabin of the vehicle. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 64,855.
Noise and burning around 6 quarts of oil a week
This just started 2 days ago at 51k miles. the vehicle will die at a slow speed or at idle. it has happened anywhere from the drive-thru to the middle of the interstate in traffic.
16 days after an oil change, driving on freeway feeder road, engine started knocking an had noticeable power loss, engine has started burning 3+ quarts of oil a week. i am concerned it could cause the engine to seize while driving. all oil changes were done on schedule at the dealership.
Oil consumption issue a quart of oil has to be added to the car once a week according to a chevrolet service bulletin, the most common cause is stuck oil control rings. generally the stuck oil control rings are the result of excessive oil on the cylinder walls and this excessive oil can come from the pcv system and/or the afm pressure relief valve in the oil pan.
I was at a stop light preparing to take a right turn on red, which is legal in oklahoma, after coming to a complete stop, and as i had begun the turn slightly depressing the gas pedal, the car died and all lights and power was lost. i coasted the vehicle into the parking lot of a gas station that was on the corner nearest to me and after two to three minutes the car started again and everything was working as normal. many times while driving, night or day, the forward collision alert will begin beeping and flashing as if you are about to have a forward collision with another vehicle, yet there is nothing in front of you literally for miles at some times. this also causes the brakes to be depressed and the car to slow down, even on the highway, when the forward collision alert system malfunctions. also, the display for the radio and various other functions of the vehicle has on several occasions froze the image on the screen and not allowed any air, radio, or any other functions to be able to be changed, sometimes for several hours. also the rear door will sometimes remain locked when all other doors are unlocked with the remote control unit and/or the buttons in the vehicle. there is definitely something going on with the electrical system in this vehicle and i have an appointment to take it in to the dealership i am purchasing the vehicle from, on this upcoming friday july 3rd, 2014.
The engine burns about a quart of oil per 1000 miles. we had a dealer look into it, including a dip test every 500 miles. they found that it is indeed burning oil, and said due to low tension rings and short skirt piston, this was normal. i'm no mechanic, but 3 quarts of oil per normal oil change intervals seems really excessive. it's been like this pretty much since we bought it new. i guess it could be safety related because severe oil consumption could cause a fire.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet equinox. while driving approximately 20 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle overheated. the engine stalled and the vehicle was able to be restarted after multiple attempts. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the failure was due to low coolant level. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the radiator clamp needed to be removed. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 24,000.
Using way to much oil. very disappointed. i buy a car to keep long term. pretty obvious this problem was well known by automaker. i was never notified. will never buy a gm again!!!!
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet equinox. while driving at an unknown speed, a loud abnormal ticking sound emitted from the vehicle without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that there was no oil in the vehicle. the technician performed an oil change and compression test every 1,000 miles. the contact was informed that the piston in the engine failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the technician stated that the vehicle was burning oil rapidly. the vehicle was not repaired. on another occasion, the vehicle failed to shift gears properly. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the transmission was repaired with unknown parts. the contact also stated that the windshield wipers failed to operate intermittently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 33,000. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that oil levels in the vehicle decreased significantly daily without warning. the contact was informed that the engine piston failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. it was unknown if the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was not available.
The car lost power, all lights on the dashboard disappeared, engine stopped running enroute to toronto on 12/31/2014 without any warning i was driving at 545 pm t110km/hr on the fast lane/3rd lane and i had to maneuver the car fast from the 3rd to the second to the first and able to stop at the shoulder. if i was not driving above speed limit i would have been toast, qew is a major through way and this was new years eve so traffic was moving fast. as i accelerated i felt a catch on the gas pedal and the car just stopped. this is a 2013 model and i have no problems with it until now. after a minute i turned the ignition on without any problems and made it to my sisters home in pickering without any incident. i will contact the dealership today jan 1 if they are open. *js
Question. i received a letter in the mail regarding my 2013 chevy equinox with flex fuel. the letter states some 2013 equinox vehicles equipped with this feature may have a condition where the flexible sensor may become inoperative during normal operation due to an electrical failure caused by road salt and other environmental contaminants. this could cause the service engine light to illuminate and remote start will be inoperative. why wouldn't this be a recall issue? it effects the engine. to me this is a way around another recall incident involving general motors. help. *tr
I was driving on i-71n around 3:30 on my way home during the speed limit of 65 when all of a sudden the display show an engine light and a message saying reducing power mode and the speed drop to 20 even though i hand my foot on the gas all the way to the floor. luckily i had just move lane from in front of a 18 wheeler and was able to pull over still in danger because the lane i moved to still had traffic coming. i turn the car off since it would not go and sit for about 5 minutes. i started it up and was able to make it to the dealer service. they found that following code p2101, p2119. they perform diagnostic test all wiring to throttle position sensor test ok replace throttle body assembly and recheck faults, passed. what they told me is that the sensor did not know i was giving the engine gas so it reduce the engine speed. this is scary to know it could happen and i could have been injured or even kill. i was lucky. *tr
I was doing approx. 25 mph and went to press down on the accelerator the vehicle hesitated then took off very fast and rapid scared my wife and i almost hit the vehicle that i was trying to pass the vehicle now sits in my garage and will not drive the vehicle very afraid either myself or someone else is going to get killed, this is not the first time during the week of 5-22-2014 it happened. *tr
I pulled into my driveway and put the car in park. i noticed a small puff of white smoke from the hood in one specific place. prior to this, there was not a check engine light, there was not a messgae warning of reduced engine power. the car was inspected at a certified gm dealership on 4/16/2014. nothing was noted on the diagnostic form to fix or replace. it was completed at the dearlership that we purchased the car at. i quickly got out of my car and begin to get my three year old out of his carseat. i looked at the hood and there was so much black smoke pouring out of the hood i could not see our shed or anything in front of me. i yelled to the other two children (both 6), to get out of their carseats and run into the woods. i unbuckled one child and the other child slipped out of her buckle. they ran to a safe spot. i ran into the house called 911 and got our fire extinguisher. came outsude and there was black smoke filling the sky and pouring out of the hood in numerous places. i used the fire extinguisher which did not help. i got the garden hose and tried to use that, but was getting too dangerous. so i waited for the fire department to arrive. at this time there was flames coming from the bottom and top of the car and the car was making loud cracking and exploding noises. there was so much smoke i could not see the house which was close by. the windows exploded and the passanger airbag went off. the three children countinued to be 500 feet into the woods and i frantically was running around (37 week pregnant).the shed caught on fire. the fire department arrived and extinguished the fire. the two front tires were completly melted and ruined our driveway. *js
While approaching a traffic signal the engine went to a reduced power mode (idle)....i had no control of the car...could not move....could not even move to side of road...blocking traffic....called onstar chevy emerg road assist...while making arrangement for tow he asked for mileage...i had to turn off the engine to get rid of the screen which said "reduced engine power"....gavehim the mileage...when restarting the engine the engine now idled normal and when pu in drive , i could now move the car....canceled the service...took the car to the dealer next am...they diagnosed the trouble to be a "binding throttle body" it was replaced...i am apprehensive driving the car , especially on i95 with trucks and cars traveling 70/80 mph i could get killed....... *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet equinox. while driving at approximately 40 mph, an abnormal sound emitted from under the hood of the vehicle without warning. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 9,200.
The lights in the interior of my car go out intermittently. i have been driving down the highway going 70mph and without warning the car just died on me, i had to have someone push me off the highway because the car would not start. i waited about 10 mins and it started up again. the collision senor goes off when there is nothing around the car and boggs down the car while driving. i have taken it to 2 different shops and they can not get the problem to duplicate. they have had my car since before thanksgiving and gave it back to me the week of christimas. i drove it and had no problems until that friday on my way home from work crossing over a busy intersection the collision alert started ringing and the senor is off and the car died in the middle of the road. i was able to get it started right away and get out of the intersection. i took it back to the shop and they still can't get the problem resolved. i say the gm obviously has electrical issues with their cars, because reading others complaints about the same issues. this is a major safety issue! *tr
The check engine light is in. i had onstar run a vehicle diagnostic and the code back as a p00013. then i had reilly's auto part run a diagnostic and they came back with codes p00013 and p00011 for the camshaft sensors. i've talked to others that own or have owned this vehicle and they all have experienced this problem. i have gas fumes backing up into the car when i turn the air that is dangerous choking and gives me a headache. i have to run the ac system off as soon as the fumes start. it's summer and hit so i have to ride with the widows down but that's not helping. but that's truly besides the point. has backing up in the vehicle is dangerous and many equinox owners are having problems or chevy owners in general are have continued problems with this. why is there not a repair for this issue? i love my chevy but hate this issue. i have another mechanic coming by today to run a more thorough computer diagnostic that said this maybe a 1200 to 1300 fix because in his experience replacing the camshafts haven't stopped the vehicle from having an issue from other vehicles he have worked with in the pass. gas fumes are released in the car as soon as the ac is turned on but they start as soon as the car is started.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that while driving approximately 3 mph in reverse, a load roaring noise emitted from the engine. the failure recurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who was unable to locate the defect. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 3,000. updated 2/11/14*cn another dealer informed the consumer, the noise was coming from the high valve fuel pump on the engine and in the gas tank. the consumer has since traded the vehicle. updated 02/18/14
Takata recall manufacture default part cause rubbing on timing chain. then threw the engine.
