Recently my car caught on fire while my husband and i were driving. we own a 2012 equinox 2.4l. we didn't know until now that this engine is known for having extreme issues with a pcv valve and because of this design flaw the valve gets clogged up. it makes your engine build up pressure and then a crankcase seal blows (in our case is was the rear). this is something known to gm. there is a service bulletin out for this but gm won't cover it. we meet all the qualifications and they still won't cover it. there are so many people out there all over the internet posting about the same problem and gm won't help them either.
Since i purchased the vehicle in september 2014 i have had three instances where the car has stalled while driving. twice it was related to cam sensors and a check engine light came on. this most recent time on 1/5/2018 the car was idling funny and stalled out no lights on dash. i just got an oil change one week prior. as i was trying to make it to my mechanic i heard an awful noise from the engine i had never heard before. i just barely made it to the mechanic. it stalled at every red light on my way there....but when i got there and they hooked up the computer without a check engine light on a message popped up on the dash that said low oil pressure. i had only one quart of oil in there and like i said i just had the oil changed one week prior. in the past i had taken it to valvoline in between oil changes for top offs because that ticking/rattling sound when the oil is low was happening. they recently told me the equinox is notorious for high oil consumption and owners are hoping for a recall. i have consistently looked for leaks because that seems to be my luck with cars. i never saw one until the other day and it appears to be a rear seal as it leaks almost at the rate of an oil change drain, but i won't actually know for sure until they take the engine apart. i am beyond frustrated because of course my warranty on the vehicle was up about 3500 miles ago and this is clearly a very expensive repair that isn't at the fault of the driver but rather the manufacturer. additionally, i'm driving a newborn and two other children around in a car that will randomly stall or potentially combust due to engine failure as a result of lack of oil with no warning from the computer system in the vehicle. this has happened in the vehicle multiple times in 3 years roughly every 25-30k miles.
On a cold sub 0 degree day 1/5/2018 i was traveling on the expressway and without warning the vihical a 2012 equinox suddenly started smoking out the exhaust profusely. after a tow into the dealer it was found that the pcv valve stuck closed and built up pressure and blow out the rear main seal. a problem that gm has known about . ( service bulletin # 14882) this has cost me almost $3,100 and could have been prevented if when the dealership when they took the vehicle in on traedin they fixed the known problem before they put the vehicle out on the used car lot and selling it to a unsuspecting customer like me who had no knowledge of to even look for this information. i bought this vehicle with 11200 miles on it and the service bulletin covered it to 12000 thousand mile. in closing it was very scary not knowing if i was going to make it off the expressway in the middle of rush hour and very shameful of matthew hargreaves dealership for withholding this information at the time of sale. if they didn't know about the problem the should have as it is there brand and they are suppose to be honest right!!
2012 chevy equinox was making a knocking noise took it to my mechanic. it was out of oil before my oil change was due. i had 1000 miles left before my oil change. this is the second time this has happened within 6 months. contacted gmc today got s case number but have to wait for it to happen again and take it to a gmc dealer for a diagnostic test. then today during a snow storm my windshield wipers just stopped working it was a mess trying to get home making frequent stops because of visibility.gmc said there are no recall for that or the oil consumption but i see so many complaints online about all these issues. not to add the paint in the inside of the car doors and trunk doors are rusting. this is my last gmc car going back to honda.
Plugged pcv orifice in intake manifold during cold weather, causing a blown rear crankshaft seal.
There was an issue with a valve in the engine that can become plugged in cold weather. only certain vin's were covered. my vehicle had the identical problem as the ones that were recalled had. however, because my vin was not part of the recall gm would not cover my repair costs.
I was on my lunch break at my work, parked in the parking lot with my vehicle on and running. all of a sudden, my vehicle shuts off and will not turn on. come to find out it's something to do with my engine. the vehicle only has 105,654 miles on it and had oil. one problem we know so far is that this particular engine burned through oil like it was nothing. i haven't even owned the car for a year and this happened. i'm hoping that this isn't a wide spread issue.
Equinox very suddenly started running roughly and making a "knocking" noise from the engine and acted as if engine wanted to stall while idling. low engine oil light came on, we stopped for oil and added oil. started equinox up, low engine oil light was no longer on. drove the equinox for approximately ten (10) minutes when it made a horrendous shuddering noise, engine warning light came on stating "stop engine now". we pulled off to side of highway. end result: the engine was blown and needed to be replaced at cost of $8,000.00, five months after the 5 year warranty expired. equinox only had 64,000 miles on it and oil had been changed regularly including in late august 2017. subsequently came to learn that gm has many engine and engine oil related issues with equinoxes dating back to 2011 at least. our equinox had not been subject to any recalls.
My vehicle was burning excessive amounts of oil. i took it in because it was running poorly, they discovered it was 3 quarts low on oil, and then had me track my oil consumption (by checking the oil once a week for 2,000 miles). chevrolet had a recall for this issue (only if your car was experiencing this) and luckily it was covered to be fixed. however, because of the excessive oil consumption, i have had other issues and problems with my car. all during the same time period, my manifold cracked and i need a new catalytic converter. i definitely think (and the service advisor agreed) that the reason that my emissions system is running inefficiently, is because my engine was burning so much oil. all of the oil soot and fumes run through the engine and emission system, therefore clogging up my catalytic converter. seems to me, that the catalytic converter should be covered under the oil consumption recall. i can understand if it were on a case to case basis (just like the oil consumption recall is), but it should be replaced if your car is experiencing those issues. all stemming back to the oil consumption.
My 2012 chevy equinox completely shut off, without any warning, while i was driving. no check engine light, no oil warning, nothing. the vehicle just died, in the middle of the road and wouldn't restart. it has less than 50,000 miles on it. i heard a knocking/rattling from the engine in sept., checked the oil & it was bone dry! according to letter 16118 from gm, i was to take my vehicle to a dealership if this happened. i did, and started the oil consumption test. got oil tested 2 times, once it was fine, the next time it was low. the 3rd time i got it checked was when it was towed in from my experience listed above. i was a quart low. now i have a blown-up engine and the dealership wants me to pay $750.00 for them to take apart the engine to figure out the cause. i'm absolutely disgusted with this entire situation. gm knows about this issue and it's a huge safety concern! i don't know how gm can sit back and let their faulty vehicles be driven on our roadways putting so many people in danger! i drive 40 miles daily to and from work in rush hour traffic. can you imagine the damage that would have been done to myself and others if this happened during those times? myself or others could have been seriously injured or killed! is that what it's going to take to make gm recall these vehicles?! and gm just suggests an oil consumption test, that takes months and miles to diagnose?! all while letting people drive their drive unsafe vehicles?! gm needs to step up and make a recall for this. stop putting so many people at risk for some very dangerous situations! the day i came in to the chevy dealership with this complaint, they should have taken my safety and others safety into consideration. they should have had instructions from gm to inspect my vehicle free of charge and they should have fixed it free of charge because it's obviously a manufacturing defect.
My truck consumes oil every week, depending on if i did highway driving or not. i took my truck in for a oil consumption test and they stated every thing was ok, but its not. i put oil in this truck at least once a week. i wanted to take this truck on the road but cant not due it using excessive oil. i feel that tim lally is playing games. they know the problem but wont fix it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while driving 15 mph, the rpms fluctuated and the engine failed. also, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the cam shaft injector sensor failed. the vehicle was not repaired, but was taken to sandman brothers, inc. (56 e broadway st, shelbyville, in 46176 (317) 392-3271) for a second diagnosis. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that chevrolet could not assist because the vehicle was not under special coverage. the failure mileage was 67,000.
Had my car in 3 times in the last 6 months for work done. had the main rear oil seal replaced along with the catalytic converters first time, second time was after i picked up had to take it back in due to a seal leaking and letting exhaust into the cabin of the car where they had the car for over a week before they even called me back, then finally the third had to take it back in on nov 13, 2017 due to another oil leak in the car coming from the front crankshaft seal. it took the dealer 10 days after i took it in before i heard anything on what the problem was. i have been without a car for the past 18 days and no offer of a loaner or anything. this is a little ridiculous in that these oil leaks seem to come from the same problem of a pluged pcv valve causing to much pressure build up in the engine and causes the seals to leak. all the work was done under warranty, except the work on the front crankshaft seal which they want to charge me for the work. i have also had a check engine light on that they said was fixed when the replaced the main rear oil seal, but obvious it did not and now they say it has to do with the evap system. which is one thing i told them when i took the car in the first time i took it in.
Car engine stumbled 5 times this year while driving in the city while in motion 35-45 mph. wouldn't accelerate. feels like it stays stuck and wont move. last incident 1 nov 2017.
We received a "satisfaction" letter regarding the oil consumption and stability light on this vehicle. the engine burns oil constantly and the 2d cylinder misfires due to this. the car has gone into "limp" mode several times and when it does it idles extremely high and we have to take the water out of the reservoir and change the spark plug in order for the car to "reset". this is not a "satisfaction" issue; it's a safety issue and when i addressed this with chevy i was told because my car has over 150k on it that it does not qualify for the fix or reimbursement. if this was truly a satisfaction issue i would agree, however a car that routinely goes into "limp" mode, idles extremely rough and burns over a quart of oil every week qualifies as a safety issue to me. this past weekend i had my daughter and granddaughter in my car about 1 hour from the house when it happened again. if took almost 2 hours to get home and when my husband looked at the car he's not sure his "standard" fix will work this time and we're now faced with an unexpected purchase of either a new car or being required to spend several thousands of dollars for a new engine. this goes beyond any satisfaction issue that i'm aware of and having to drive less than 40 miles an hour to get home in bad weather with my daughter and granddaughter, who is 18 months old is safety, not satisfaction. i do have the letters from chevy and my response if you are interested in reviewing. thank you
My 2012 equinox is currently dead at a chevy dealership. here is the history: on october 20, 2017 the engine of my 2012 equinox blew at 109,866 miles when key was turned. the engine blew because was absolutely no oil in my engine and no leaks were present. i did not see any lights saying there was an oil problem. in fact, my dashboard read that i had enough oil before the next oil change was needed. i recently purchased an oil change on september 15, 2017 at 108,500 miles. i provided the receipt to dealership. i have always gotten regular oil changes. recently i had to get oil changes and checks more frequently than gm recommends due to oil missing from my vehicle for no apparent reason or explanation. because i had to put in so much oil, i would often take my car in for an oil change at a local oil change business or request my father to change/add oil into my vehicle. i travel around se mi and rely on my vehicle for work, so i do not have the time or extra funds to make an appointment take my vehicle into the dealership for monthly oil changes and top-offs (see below). february 10, 2017 - oil changed march 14, 2017 - oil changed april 26, 2017 - oil added may 18, 2017 - oil changed june 1, 2017 - oil added june 30, 2017 - oil changed july 8, 2017 - oil added august 3, 2017 - oil added august 15, 2017 - oil changed august 28, 2017 - oil added september 15, 2017 - oil changed at 108,500 miles october 20, 2017 - engine blew at 109,866 miles, without any indication that engine needed to be serviced, oil was low, etc. in fact, my dashboard shows that i have ample oil life left in my engine before oil needs to be changed. i have a few receipts for these service dates.
Excessive oil consumption, stalling, reduced power engine light contatly coming on.
I was driving with my wife and dog in the car late at night in cold iciey conditions in wyoming. car began to lose power dramatically, steering was tight, lights dimmed, also engine stalled after a bit a of a slide and safely pulling over. we could have wrecked in the middle of nowhere in the icey cold temperatures. engine light was one. traction control light was on. dash reads 'service stabilitrak' and 'engine power reduced !'. i could not get the car to quit stalling. i wasn't safely able to drive it. so i then did a ecu reset. (disconnect ecu and battery). sat for 20 minutes. restarted and still same problem after it idled rough for 5 minutes roughly. so next i disconnected the ecu fuse number 42 in the engine fuse box. i then turned key in first position and had same readings. next i reset the code with my obd scan tool. repeated the fuse method again... still same reading but without starting the motor once during this.... my guess is the ecu is volitil to this vehicle motor class. service bulletin states it needs a reflash. updates for engine oil consumption as well. very interesting as we consume too much oil. i believe all motor issues in our vehicle we have now (worn piston rings etc) are due to a faulty ecu. the fact that the warning shows when reset and not connected because the fuse is removed proves to me the ecu is having software issue in rendering proper diagnostics as well as safe engine performance. this incident took place in august of 2017. problem still persists in dry climates where we live in texas. same issues. same symptoms. new sensors, battery, spark plugs and oil change regularly. this vehicle is unsafe and will take lives if not recalled. imagine driving on ice with your kids inside and then your steering goes out and the engine loses power and brakes.... is that what it will take?
Valve on engine is loose causing engine to rattle and make loud noises when starting and driving. engine is shaking can't afford to replace engine too much money just got the car still owe $14,000 on the car not under warranty any longer according to warranty company.
I have had my car for 2 years and in two years i have had to get the catalytic converter replaced also the tensioner belt the o2 sensors and a few other things replaced. my chevy equinox is a lemon and a few other people i know has said the same thing i wish i never purchased this car and i'm stuck with the $14,000 lemon that i can't get rid of.
Every time i stop at a stop light or a stop sign my car will start idling really bad and will come up with the code engine stability. if i do not put it in neutral the car will stall. it does have 131000 miles on it and i had to replace the manifold twice and the timing belts, upstream 02 sensor and have had my mechanic look at it three times. every time he has replaces some different sensors and for the first few days my car will run then it will progressively get worse and i have to put my car in neutral to get it to stop but even in neutral it will still idle.
Chevy equinox 2012, but the truck a month ago, notice a rattle noise on the engine, after a month +1000 miles driving, need to add 2q of oil, today 7/17 has no oil. take it to sierra chevrolet on monrovia, the person on service department, mention that i need to pay $150 for diagnostic the problem, + need to pay 3 oil change to see if this truck has the issue mention on bulletin: 13-06-01-003f. why i need to pay for something that is not my fault. defect of manufacturing. motion.
This vehicle frequently loses charge on battery battery and alternator are new. vehicle has less than 70k miles also throws up computer codes radio turns on and off when it wants to. i purchased it used with 40k miles and has been a problem since. i have quotes for over 2k in repairs and was told at time of purchase all recalls were cared for. was purchased certified preowned from a dealership. every time i fix something there's another problem.
Was told by my mechanic the vehicle was burning oil. found out in may 2017 that chevy is aware of a defective piston ring problem that causes this. they have been aware since at least 2015. waited 2 years to notify me by mail. when i went to a dealer to have problem fixed i was told vehicle has too many miles on it. it would not have had too many miles had i benn notified 2 years ago!
Broken timing chain after only 4 years of owning the car. when i contacted the dealership they stated that they did issue a recall for timing chains for 2012 equinox's, however my car was not covered under this specific recall, so they would not be covering it. when this chain broke, the vehicle began to violently shake, and ultimately stopped running in the middle of the highway. there was no warning that there was a problem with the vehicle.
Sitting at red light, idling became a little rough, when light turned green i tried to go and the vehicle completely shut off. started it back up and it did it again; took 3 times before it cranked and stayed cranked. this has happened to me now about three different times at red light and stop sign. i am afraid to drive my vehicle, that it may not restart or that i may be in traffic and end up getting in an accident with my children.
This vehicle has known oil consumption issues. in april 2016 the vehicle was lurching and shaking. during service of the vehicle they stated the oil was low, which has been on ongoing issue. we were advised to bring it back in august for an oil consumption test. we took it in for the oil consumption test. now in may 2017 we are experiencing the same issues. interestingly enough the dealership now has no record of the oil issues, including the oil consumption test. the dealership rummaged through the glove compartment and stated the vehicle was only getting oil changes every 6000. in fact, not all to the oil change receipts go in the glove compartment. we believe gm is attempting to hide the issue. ultimately the vehicle will lurch and cause personal injury or property damage.
Oil consumption test showed motor using oil before 1000 miles.i had purchased an additional warranty but it isn't worth the paper it's written on.i have looked over other complaints online about these cars and there are numerous complaints on this issue with this car. have also had to replace gas cap twice on the car so the engine light would stay off
Engine light comes on. .....car dies, put it in park and restart it, engine light on, car moves with shudder. i am being told it is not a sensor but something in the car's computer. fearful car will die in traffic and create accident or leave my granddaughter stranded. other owners are experiencing same issue with no resolution from dealer service departments per internet sites/searches
I have a 2012 chevy equinox that i have owned since aug. 2015. the car uses excessive oil, two or more quarts between oil changes on my four cylinder engine. a web search found this to be a very common problem. chevy came up with the idea that this was a normal condition, but any back yard mechanic knows different. after all the complaints chevy finally issued a technical service bulletin on excessive oil use. i called the dealership who said i needed an oil consumption test which of course is not reimbursed. i purchase insurance total lost vehicles and repair them. i have been driver this car for 2 year. car has 60000 miles. chevy still has car listed as salvage with warranty void in their computer. no dealership will touch it. i am on my 4th call to chevy and they do not respond. car will go low on oil to the point the engine bangs with no low oil indication. tsb issue will not do repair.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while driving 55 mph, the vehicle rattled and made a host of noises, which indicated that there was no oil in the vehicle. the contact stated that two quarts of oil were placed in the vehicle, but it prematurely dissipated before the intended mileage mark. the contact stated that oil was added to the vehicle three times in a short period of time. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was an oil consumption failure. the vehicle was not repaired, but the contact made an appointment with the dealer. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 91,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while driving 55 mph, the electrical system failed and the contact had to use force to control the steering. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact pulled the vehicle over and had it towed to an independent mechanic. the mechanic diagnosed that there was an oil leak, the rear main seal needed to be replaced, and the pvc valve needed to be cleaned. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 181,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while the vehicle was being diagnosed for the stability and service engine soon indicators illuminating the technician informed the contact of water leaking in the area near the spare tire. the vehicle was scheduled to be diagnosed by an independent mechanic for the leaking. the contact also stated that there was a mildew odor in the vehicle. the manufacturer provided reference number: 8-2934661496. the contact inquired as to why a recall was not issued. the manufacturer stated that nhtsa issues recalls and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 33,886. updated 07/11/17*lj *as
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while driving 55 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the engine without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the timing chain needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in any recalls and advised the contact to file a complaint with nhtsa. the failure mileage was 85,500.
On april, 13 2017, my wife was exiting the highway on the way home from work. the vehicle immediately slowed and shut down nearly causing her to be run over by a semi-tractor behind her. because the car could not be re-started, i had it towed to my usual mechanic. his diagnosis showed it had a timing chain failure which tore up the upper end of the motor. in his experience such damage was the result of oil issues. this came as a great shock to measure i regularly change the oil every 3000 miles. i went home that night and began to research this problem and have found that this is not a rare occurrence with this motor. i would have to add from 1-3 quarts of oil between changes but because there were no bulletins or recalls i was told i would just have to deal with it. so i guess i need to know how many of these vehicles have to die in traffic or people have to die or be injured before someone takes notice. i will have to replace my motor (over $5000) and gm knows these problems exist. it was just a matter of time. and to add insult to injury, gm expects me to have the vehicle towed to their facility at my expense so they can confirm the diagnosis. if the diagnosis is confirmed, then i'll have to tow it back to my guy so he can fix it. another $200 bucks. once again, doesn't anyone monitor the internet about this stuff? people get so frustrated when dealing with large corporations, they have no choice but to share their stories with independent sources. and gm surely won't incur additional expenses without government scrutiny. we've learned that the hard way. i just want them to do the right thing. admit it was a problem-plagued motor and fix it. thank you for your time.
I have 64,633 miles on the car the engine started to knock when starting. the dealer verified noise on start up and constant noise wihile idling and found noise from balance shaft chain and can gears..dealer replaced the balance shaft chain, balance shaft chain actuators, necessary gaskets, seals, and bolts. also because of this had to get a transmission fluid with total fluid exchange and transmission fluid conditioner.. i see many complaints on here for this same issue and i would think that chevy could make a more dependable, reliable vehicle than this or be responsible for these repairs. i have had a gm car for many years but believe that it may be time to trade this one in and try a different better made to last brand. i would not expect any engine damage or major issues like this with so few miles. i am so glad i took this in to be check out i would hate to be driving as others stated they were and have my car just stop and put my life at risk.
Car idles rough when stopped jerks during acceleration then stalls there are no check engine lights on.
At times it seems like the transmission doesn't shift properly when starting to accelerate. it's as if it's not sure what gear to go into. currently i have an engine light on and it stalls frequently. if i slow down or start to accelerate it will stall. i'm afraid i'm going to get rear ended by someone! it also blows out white smoke from the exhaust. i seem to be adding oil more often than i should.
My car shut down while i was driving. i have been having problems with the check engine light coming on.. i am afraid to drive it. i am having it towed to the dealership tomorrow. i am driving a rental. i will never buy another product from this company. i have been reading the complaints. why have this suv not been recalled. are they waiting for someone to be killed before they do this?
Excessive oil consumption leads to chugging, dying & blowing codes. you have to check the oil at every fill up or the actuators & the selenoid fail which then retards the timing & tilts the cam shaft. i was driving home when i felt it power down & almost stall out. there are hundreds of complaints via google on this. this is the 3rd time in 14 months that mine has been in the shop. they need to fix the problem not just bandaide it. it has cost me way to much money & this is a road hazard since you never now when it is just going to lose power.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the check oil engine warning indicator illuminated. the contacted assumed that the oil needed to be changed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed as excessive oil consumption. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 94,000.
Timing chain failures at a relatively low mileage, between 50000 to 60000 miles which is unheard of , it makes the vehicle stall , ours did in the busiest part of wichita fall tx . which is very dangerous , and im being told this is a common failure on these vehicles , timing chains should last a whole lot longer than that and its going to get someone killed , ive asked chevorlet if the new parts are an upgrade to fix the problem but no one can give me an answer so im probably going to get rid of the car which we love except for that issue.
I had driven my car to work without a problem which is about 2 miles from my house. after work i went to the store again with no problem. when i backed out of the parking space my car stalled. i put it in park and restarted it, but once i put it in reverse again it shook, and stalled. i restarted it again and gave it a little more gas, then put it in gear to back up. now the check engine light is on. it wasn't on before all the stalling. i took the car home and parked it thinking it may be bad gas. a week went by without any problems. the check engine light was off the next morning when i started the car. . i came to a light and stopped, waiting for the signal to change. when the light changed i started to accelerate and the car started jerking a little and stalled.this is a busy intersection and i didn't want to be stuck in oncoming traffi as i was in the left turn lane. i put it in park and restarted it again. again it stalled. i restarted it giving it more acceleration then putting it in drive..i pulled into a parking lot and shut it off. after a few minutes i started it and the check engine light is now on. the car stalled 4 more times before i left the parking lot. i drove it home and parked it. i have read several other complaints that sound exactly like mine. i do not feel safe driving this car knowing it can stall at any given moment putting me, my family, and other travelers at risk. so far i have not been on the highway with this issue. i had it checked and the code came back as p0010. this appears to be a similar problem as the 2011 equinox had and it was recalled. i strongly feel gm should address this problem before people are killed.
Check engine light came on. car had been idling rough and would almost stall out at red lights. also made a ticking noise when pressing on the accelerator at about 20-25 mph. i took it to the mechanic and he found the oil level low. performed an oil change and cleared the diagnostic code. he also gave me information pertaining to this excessive oil consumption bulletin. now i will have to check my oil level and make sure to get an oil change every 3000 miles.
My 2012 equinox began burning excessive oil. i had to add oil between oil changes. the vehicle exhibited the exact same issues as under the gm customer satisfaction #12312a which initially only covered the 2010 to 2011 equinox. this same issue is also covered under technical service bulletin #13-06-01-003h. based on this issue, my vehicle was in motion on a city street started so sputter while driving and finally shut down while driving. i was not able to get a dealership appointment and took the vehicle to firestone complete auto care. they informed me that the low oil likely caused the timing chain to jump and recommend i should see the dealership for oil consumption issue as this was a well known issue with these vehicles. i was able to get my vehicle to the dealership. the vehicle has 85k miles and the warranty ran out 5 months ago. i was informed that the issue was the timing chain and it needed to be replaced for $1,600.00. similar issue to the 2010 and 2011 chevy equinox which is being replaced. was also told the oil consumption would have to be performed after the timing chain fix and would also be at my expense. there are significant issues for this vehicle and gm is not taking responsibility. the warranty was extended for the 2010 and 2011 vehicles as they should have but the issue is also affecting the 2012 and 2013 as gm has issued service bulletins for them but are not fixing a known issue. this issue is dangerous to customers driving as the car can completely shutdown while driving. this is a dangerous issue for vehicle owners and an expensive one for customers from which gm is avoiding taking responsibility.
Consumes too much oil. camshaft issues. the car has issues properly switching gears in automatic and there is a delay or shaking/jutter at times. even when the car is idle is has a strange sound to it. car also has issue with accelerating. i will push the gas down and it doesn't switch gears fast enough. this happens all the time in everyday city and rural driving.
I purchased this pre-owned equinox september 30. in december i found out from my mechanic that there is an oil consumption problem. it's not leaking oil, it's using oil. he printed out documentation that shows 2012 equinox vehicles have this oil consumption problem due to faulty piston and piston ring installation. i brought it to my local gmc/chevy dealer and he said there is nothing that gmc will do for me and that it would be $3,000 to fix. i asked for an oil consumption test but he didn't follow through to schedule it. the vehicle had a power train warranty that expired this last october. because of that it won't be repaired at no cost to me. because this is a known issue that this vehicle engine was put together incorrectly, there is no way that i should pay for the repair. over time this will cause irreparable damage to the engine, leaving me with multiple expensive upkeep and the inability to sell. it just turned to 82,000 miles. my first american bought car after owning foreign cars for decades. wanted to be patriotic. i won't have that misjudgment again. i felt stuck at first but then realized that this is not an acceptable conclusion. gmc needs to stand behind what they have built.
