After taking the car out from a stop sign, the steering wheel locked and could not accelerate. the car started to slow down. i was able to put the gear on park once the car stalled and turn off the ignition. i then turned on the ignition and everything was normal. once i reached my destination i turned off and on the ignition and check engine light came on. upon taking to the mechanic they found out the cam sensor had to be replaced.
My 2011 chevrolet equinox has a really bad ticking coming from the timing belt area. this car has been idling rough and its very loud do to the ticking coming from side of engine. it sound like a 30 year old car and its been doing it since 66,000 miles
For a third time in 2 weeks, the vehicle loss power and failed to maintain speed. it would not even move forward when given gas even though the engine continued running. this time, the check engine light did not come on. the vehicle had to be turned off, then re-started, for movement to be regained. this happened in heavy traffic and blocked a lane for a couple of minutes, until i could pull off the road. this happened on previous occasions at highway speed too, but, we had more recently replaced the throttle body unit, as this was a prior diagnosis for this failure condition. now, we're not sure the vehicle can be trusted at all.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the vehicle was idling extremely rough and then the vehicle stalled without warning. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. the technician diagnosed that the cam shaft actuator solenoid needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no remedy. the approximate failure mileage was 105,000.
I am a taxi cab driver i was driving with my customer suddenly car stopped then i start again and few miles later i had engine power reduced sigh on than engine check light and stability truck light came on car slowed to ten mph i tried to speed up but gas pedal was not responding if this happens to me on highway with 60-66 mph speed some one would run over me
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet equinox. while driving at 30 mph, the service engine light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the timing chain fractured. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 45,136.
In february 2015 the throttle body was replaced/repaired due to reduced engine power and stalling while driving. although no longer under warranty, chevrolet picked up the repair cost. since the repair, there has been hesitation in acceleration. more recently there has been loud engine noise (sounds lile a diesel engine), rough idling at a stop & hesitation when turning off the vehicle. it sounds and feels like the engine is going to fall out. the check engine light has come on 2x. i will be scheduling service.
Bought the car used in april 2014. in april 2015 had to have the timing chain replaced. in july 2015 had to have the rings, pistons, and cylinder head replaced. now in february 2016 i have had the to replace the battery, and the starter and it still won't start.
While driving my 2011 equinox the car seems to intermittently misfire, causing the whole car to shake. some days the car seems to run fine, some days it runs badly. sometimes the engine light comes on, sometimes the check stabilitrac light comes on. sometimes the car runs fine and no light comes on. the problem seems to be getting worse and happens more frequently. in the last week the car has started to run for 3-5 seconds after shutting off the ignition. it also has begun to run very rough and almost stall , but not every time i drive it. *tr
I was driving and came to a smooth stop at a red light and as the vehicle came to a stop, the rpm gauge needle fell below 1 and then kept lowering and the engine shook and jostled and the car engine died. all interior electronics were still working. i had to put the car into park in order to get it to start up again. it did this later while reversing. and now it just seems to do this anytime i come to a stop at a light, stop sign, anytime really. something i found perplexing was that if i put it into park, it idles smooth. take it out of park, it idles rough again and will stall. the information panel between the gauges says to service stabili trak. last night, the engine overheated and coolant exploded from the engine. i have no clue what to do with this car. i have it financed and if it isn't repairable, ill be stuck with no car and no ride to work, but still have to find a way to make a car payment. i've been reading all over on different car forums and apparently this is a very common problem with other chevy equinox owners. first it starts idling rough, then it starts stalling out, some people have even had it stall out while on the highway, and then one guy even had the engine catch on fire. he luckily jumped out of his vehicle just in time to avoid his own death. all of them describing the same issues my equinox is having. the mileage seems to be irrelevant as far as this goes. some of them had 30,000 miles, some had less than 5,000 miles. some had 100,000 miles. some of them took it to the dealer, and the dealership replaced cam shaft stuff. that sometimes fixed the issue, sometimes not. it just seems like there is definitely something wrong with this vehicle. like something was wrong in production. please help!!! i have children. what should i do? *tr
A three occasions i have sat a stop light with the car idling, with a rough sounding idle, the car sounding like it was going to stall. on the third occasion, it actually did stall with me needing to restart (which luckily it did) as traffic was bearing down from behind on an early morning commute. i took the car to get serviced within the next two days, with the mechanic telling me that car was dangerously low on oil. i was shocked and surprised to hear this, as i am diligent about getting my oil changed on time. the oil was changed only 3 months prior and the mechanic said it was 3 quarts low on oil!! after hearing this, i've researched and found that this has been a major issue for people with similar year model equinoxes. scary as i felt helpless sitting stalled in heavy morning traffic. lucky i wasn't hit! *tr
We have owned a 2011 since 2014 and in the beginning of 2015 we began to experience the excessive oil consumption. we have taken it to a chevy dealer multiple times and have been told that there is nothing wrong. we have to change our oil between 1, 000 and 2,000 miles and constantly carrying around oil "just in case". in august, 2017, we started to experiencing the stalling at stop signs and red lights, and even while driving. when idling, the car "bounces".
Discovered vehicle using around 2 quarts of oil in between oil changes. it was 200 miles short of next oil change. added the oil, drove approx. 500 miles and it was 1/2 qt. short. gm says normal to use 1 quart in between. this is crazy. we have began the oil consumption test with photos documenting. when we had the oil changed at a dealer the oil was way overfilled. *tr
I was driving with my 7 year old son and 15 year old nephew on a 35 mph busy street when all of a sudden my vehicle started shaking and the steering wheel and brake pedal lock on me i couldn't move the luckily there was no car coming at the moment, and i was able to turn off the vehicle and turn it back up. after that i it started up again and nothing seem to be wrong until the engine light turn on and i continued on my way, all of a sudden my on the dash board it said stability check/lost engine power and all of a sudden the engine shut off on me. i couldn't move to from lanes to avoid causing an accident luckily the vehicles on back of me notice my vehicle slowing down and they where able to miss hitting my vehicle. i really do want something done to fix this issue because i could of cause an accident with that sudden stop and all because of the engine powering off. i believe something needs to be done a.s.a.p. before on of all these other people putting their complains end up dead or causing a deadly accident. i sure don't want my family to be in danger in any type of way, especially not in a vehicle that i know is malfunctioning and feeling helpless because nothing is being done. i hope my complain helps even more to get this issue fix a.s.a.p. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet equinox. while driving approximately 35 mph, the reduced power warning light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the contact had to maneuver the vehicle to the side of the road in order to come to a complete stop. the vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. the following day, the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the throttle body assembly needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired and the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 61,000. ....updated 04/23/15 *bf updated 9/22/2017*cn
This car has been burning oil and i have had on three separate occasions in the past few months experienced the car stalling, or near stalling while driving or sitting idling in traffic at traffic light or stop sign. i have complained to the dealer and an independent mechanic both of which told me i hardly had any oil in the engine when checked. (i change my oil as recommended my car is maintained as it should be) my most recent experience was the most dangerous, i remote started my car on 1/31/15, i came outside to get in it and i could smell oil burning, the inside cabin smelled of burning oil/ fire like smell. i witnessed smoke coming from under the car at junction of pipe coming from engine area and muffler. i had my father come and check the car out with engine off my father popped the hood and when pulling the dipstick out to check the oil, the oil shot 2-3 feet in the air onto him and down the driver side wheel well of the car. my father could have been severely burned or had eye damage had in been any closer or standing on side of car when checking. i took the car to the dealership on 2/2/15 i told them what happened they kept the car and checked it, i got a call the same day telling me that the car had to have the pistons, valve cover and time and chain replaced, all covered by my power train warranty (thank god). i feel compelled to tell you this b/c it is very dangerous both for those driving and anyone on the road. i have read numerous complaints about this engine (4cyl) and it seems nothing is being done. i believe chevrolet should have a massive recall, because obviously something is very wrong! i do believe this has been part of another problem that have complained about early on when i first purchased the car it would, and continues to decelerate while driving, completely on its own and very randomly. this is an obvious safety concern. *tr
When you are driving the 2011 chevrolet equinox ltz and the vehicle goes into "engine power is reduced" mode the vehicle comes to a complete stop within 10 feet. you are unable to turn the steering wheel or continue to move forward in any way with the phrase service stabilitrack appearing right after. you can be driving slowly at 20-25 miles per hour or faster at 35-40 miles per hour and this is able to happen at any moment. total control of the vehicle is lost and the engine is unusable. chevrolet informed us that this is caused by a bad sensor in the throttle body. the sensor is unable to be replaced without replacing the entire throttle body. the vehicle is unusable without replacing the throttle body and the throttle body is not covered after the emissions warranty of 24,000 miles. from years 2006-2009 the throttle body was covered under the powertrain warranty at 100,000 miles. after researching the internet and speaking with local mechanics, it has been noted that multiple equinox drivers have had this issue and it always occurs between 50,000-60,000 miles. frankly the vehicle is unsafe and chevrolet does not care. something should be done to either include this faulty part in a 100,000 mile power train warranty (as the engine will not operate without it) or a recall should be established. in the event that an equinox is traveling at higher speeds (such as on a highway) the situation could potentially cause a fatal injury. video of this occurring will be provided upon request. *tr
I was driving around 50 mph down a rural road when a message suddenly appeared saying no oil pressure, stop engine. i continued about a half mile to stop sign and engine quit as i was braking. would not re-start. i was stranded on the roadside. upon checking reason for no oil pressure i determined there was no oil in the engine, no visible leaks or drips on undercarriage of vehicle. engine apparently had ceased up. oil change indicator was at 44%, what happened to the oil. there were no oil spots on my garage floor. no low oil indicator light appeared on the dash panel prior to the stop engine warning. there was no knocking or lifter ticking sounds coming from the engine prior to indicate there was a low oil issue. 3.0 l v6. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet equinox. while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning and the engine light illuminated. the vehicle was coasted off of the road and shook constantly. the failure recurred on multiple occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the timing chain, fuel pump, and engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet equinox. while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle suddenly decelerated and would not exceed 10 mph. the service engine, reduced engine power, and service stabilitrak warning lights illuminated. the contact managed to coast over to an emergency lane and shut the engine off. the vehicle was restarted and the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unavailable.
I tried to put the heater on and cold air came out. i replaced the thermostat and still had the same problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 20 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle restarted after numerous attempts. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician diagnosed that the vehicle needed a new cam shaft sensor. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 63,996.
My 2011 chevy equinox started having trouble when starting the engine. i would start the car and all my emergency lights would start flashing. emergency blinkers, airbag service light, stability track and check engine light. i would start to drive and the car would just stall out. if i am driving below 10 miles an hour, the car will turn off. i was making a left turn and my car stalled out in the oncoming lanes almost causing an accident. i have been trying to get my car serviced for a while but all the chevy dealerships are booked solid around me. reading the other reviews it looks like this is a common problem. i feel very unsafe driving this vehicle and for a car to only be a couple years old, this should not be happening. *tr
I was driving and all of a sudden , the check engine light came on and "reduced engine power" message appeared. you are at highway speed and suddenly you can only go 30 miles an hour no matter how much accelerator is depressed. after pulling over at the first available safe area, turning off the car and restarting seemed to reset the car so it was able to proceed. this continued to happen until i attempted to clean the throttle body. the throttle body wasn't operating correctly. cleaning it did stop the "reduced engine power" message. this car also burns oil, no leaks, but you need a quart or two of dexos oil a month. gm seems to think this is normal. also the car stalls as you reduce speed, like coming to a traffic light. it works fine for awhile, but on certain days, it stalls every time you slow down. the check engine light points to a gas pedal switch.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated several times and the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was able to restart, but the failure progressed. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 41,000.
I was turning left on a green light at the corner of argyle and oakleaf suntrust bank when the car slipped into neutral and i was stuck in oneway opposite traffic until i turned off the engine and restarted it and then was a ble to go into drive, i was almost in a serious accident with several cars. then i was traveling north on hwy 295 and i had it in cruise control and i could not get it to quit until i turned off the engine. the power train was slipping after i had taken it to the chevy dealer and they said it was fixed but less than a year later it started doing the same thing as before, slipping, making loud scratching noises.rubbing noises and it smelled funny like it was burning but there was no fire. *tr

Sept.09,2014 while driving with my 11 year grandson the engine turned off! we fear for our lives. *tr
while driving the 2011 equinox will jerk or jump as if being hit from behind while attempting to accelerate between 2nd and 3rd gear. the check engine light will not turn off. the stability track light comes on and off periodically while in motion. when the car is being turned off it shakes as if the motor is going to fall out. i have to turn off the ac before turning the ignition switch to off position to decrease some of the shaking, yet it does not prevent it. furthermore while driving at approx.. 30-35mphs, the car jumps to 5th gear without allowing to accelerate any faster in the mist of traffic.the 2011 chevrolet equinox shakes and makes a wining noise while idling. it does so to the point where the hood is shaking. the car only has 54000 miles on it. also i have to constantly adjust the seatbelt while driving because it cuts into my neck which is very uncomfortable and a huge distraction. this car will now go forward in drive but it will not reverse. *tr
Initially the issue started with rough idling of the car, engine ticking, and engine stalling. after indicating this to the dealership, they informed me that the ecm needed to be reprogrammed because the oil life indicator was not properly calibrated causing the system to think that there was more life on the oil than there actually was. the engine balance chain eventually broke while on the interstate (55 mph), due to improper oil lubrication. the fuel pump, water pump, and a few other items had to be replaced due to the damage caused when the chain broke. i notified the dealership once again after engine ticking/ rough idling re-occured and they indicated to me that the engine ticking during startup was normal. the engine ticking progressed to becoming a constant noise. i noticed that when i took the oil in for an oil change, approximately 2000 miles in, that the oil dipstick would come up completely dry. this indicated the vehicle was experiencing an excessive amount of oil consumption. i took the vehicle to the dealership who indicated that pistons had to be replaced and the exhaust manifold was cracked. this indicated that the engine was observing some excessive amount of heat most likely due to the oil consumption issue. during these issues, no service engine light ever came on. the car had to be taken back to the dealership after the service engine light came on which indicated that the cam shaft actuator solenoids and catalytic converter needed to be replaced. the catalytic converter most likely failed due oil seeping into the exhaust which coated the ceramic substrate & the excessive heat experienced by the engine (as indicated by the cracked manifold) damaged the ceramic substrate. oil consumption leads to excessive heat from the engine which can be a fire hazard. engine stalling due to oil consumption leads to crash safety issues.
My wife purchased a 2011 chevy equinox with a window sticker stating a four cylinder engine. it had 1800 miles on the vehicle when purchased. we took the vehicle in to have the oil changed and found it has a six cylinder engine. how is this possible and who should i speak with at gm. i'm very concerned because of the terrible gas mileage and a six cyl engine was not shown on the paper work? *tr
1.while driving in nashville for work the first occurrence started with check engine light. moments later check traction control warning popped up and immediately after a reduced engine power notification and vehicle lost power. went from 55 to 30 mph in seconds. i have no clue how this did not cause a wreck in the heavy traffic. i took the vehicle to the dealership i purchased it from ([xxx] in clarksville, tn) and they told me it was a loose timing chain and that they fixed it. 2.4,000 miles later while working all the same messages popped up and the car completely stalled and would not restart on a busy bypass. vehicle would not restart and i paid to have it towed. this time the dealership said they had to replace the entire timing chain assembly and a housing due to it being destroyed. it was covered by warranty again and they serviced it for free. 3.vehicle ran great for 3600 miles and again the same message sequence occurred. the car fortunately continued to run and i drove it straight to the dealership. i insisted it was a safety hazard and that i wanted to trade it in immediately. 2 hours later they offered me $7,000 under blue book because of engine problems. this was very funny of course since it is chevrolet and the dealerships fault for selling such a lemon. i told them it was under warranty. to fix it again for free and i would pick it up. dealership called next day. said everything was fine. it was out of oil and that caused safeties to kick in and that created the problem. i ask how this is possible you changed my oil 3600 miles ago. 4.last week (again 3800 miles later) the car produced all of the same messages and stalled on the same busy bypass. this time i had my (xxx)year old and (xxx) year old in the car. the speed limit is 55 so of course traffic regularly runs 60 mph. i was stranded with my children on 20 degree weather with no heat. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *trparts of this document have been redacted to protect

This vehicle has never gotten anywhere near the advertised epa estimated gas mileage. i have over 20000 miles on it now and have only averaged around 23 mpg on the highway in eco mode. this really should be considered false advertising. i bought the vehicle mainly because of the estimated 30 mpg. really disappointed in gm at this point. *tr
Engine loss of power, with service engine light illumination and service traction control message. drove vehicle home in "limp mode" before taking to servicing dealership, the following tuesday. dealer performed balance chain repair under manufacturer special warranty letter. afterwards, dealer advised of engine code p2135 and stated vehicle required a "throttle body" replacement, at a full parts & labor cost of $583.00. dealer stated that this repair is no longer covered under gm's powertrain warranty. multiple online posts indicate that this same loss of engine power issue has occurred with vehicles traveling at freeway speeds, which will be mush more dangerous. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle decelerated and all the warning lights on the instrument panel illuminated. the contact discovered that oil dissipated rapidly. the dealer diagnosed that an oil consumption test needed to be done and was unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 31,000.
I have had problems with my 2011 chevrolet equinox since the day i got it but yesterday was the worst. the engine all of a sudden stalled on the highway and i had to pull off the road. i just had it in the shop last week and had the fuel pump and timing chain replaced. i was able to get my car home only able to drive 40 mph. this morning i was going to try to get it to work to be closer to someone who could check the code out on it but as i was going down the road it completely stalled out and i barely got off the road before the engine cut out all together. i have read numerous forums of customer with the same vehicle having the same problem. this is a safety issue and gm needs to address it. the shop is saying that if it's the fuel throttle body which is what i suspect they will not cover it under warranty. from what i understand there was a bulletin put out on this issue and it was covered for awhile on the powertrain warranty but they pulled the bulletin and no longer cover it. i need help. gm knows they have issues with this vehicle but they will not do anything about it. *tr
First off, sometimes my vehicle when in park acts like it may turn off, but doesn't. can hear/feel the vibrations like its about to. secondly, the main reason i'm on this page, the a/c. it just stopped working out of the blue and making a noise. i take it in and told the condenser has a leak and needs replaced as well as the condenser which is making the noise. wow, quoted from one place $1,084 the other place i only got a quote on the condenser of $424.. no telling what the compressor will be. after looking online and seeing so many equinox vehicles having ac issues i hoped there was a recall on the parts, unfortunately not the case. 2011 and need a new condenser and compressor for a/c wow!! car shaking like its gonna die... wow!! this vehicle was purchased about a year and half ago.. and having to sink in over $1000 for these replacements! no telling what the engine vibration during idle is from, going to have that checked out soon. oh and one other thing, when a tire is low, it appears to shows up backwards on the screen. *tr
I was driving on a residential street going 30 mph. all of a sudden there was a engine clunk ( 4 cyl) and then rapid deceleration with the engine running very rough. of course the warning lights came on. the next day i drove to the dealership several miles away and was lucky to get there as the vehicle was running so badly. the dealership will make the throttle body repair, change some sensors and fool with the timing belt, but the bottom line is the safety issue. reviewing the prior complaints, it was scary hearing about those having problems on the interstates. yes, something needs to be done by general motors. recalled these vehicles for inspection. someone is going to get killed. the lady at the dealership had the gaul to say, "didn't you have the throttle body cleaned when you got your oil changed".i said lady, i have no idea what a throttle body is and if it is so important, then the dealer should do it automatically. good luck, it will cost me $400.00, they said today. who knows what tomorrow will bring. *tr
Cruising along at 65 mph on highway when service stabilitrak light along with reduce engine power came up on the dash. i lost engine power and went from 65 mph to 15 mph. i was able to pull onto an exit ramp. i quickly pulled over & parked the car. shut the car off & waited about 1 min & turned the car back on. the stabilitrak & the reduce engine power cleared off my dash but the check engine light stayed on. then was able to merge back into traffic & pick up the 65 mph speed. i was worried that it would happen again when i had to cross oncoming traffic. when i got in my car later, the service engine light had even turned off, but on the way home it happened again. took it to the shop and was told it was a throttle body/solenoid issue & that it needs replaced. they told me it isn't covered under the pt warranty. as others have also said, i'm seeing a number of people with this same issue & wondering why this isn't a recall? it's very unsafe especially cause you don't know when its going to happen. if your doing 65-70 mph on a highway & there are cars close to you & the vehicle decides to do this, you and your family are going to get killed. *tr
This vehicle uses about 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles. with no warning from manufacturer or dealer and the recommended oil change at every 4 to 5 thousand miles, the oil level is gone by the time the oil change is due. this repeated action causes the cam position sensor to sludge up and become faulty. this in turn causes the motor to stall. there have been many complaints of the engine stalling on the highway. mine has stalled many times in city traffic. due to my driving skills i have avoided any accidents. it is only a matter of time before there are deaths attributed to this issue. although the manufacturer has been aware of this problem since 2007, it has not even gone as far as installing a low oil level sensor to help prevent this from happening. *tr
Started accelerating & when i got to 55 mph the vehicle started losing power rapidly & service stabilitrak light along with reduce engine power came up on the dash. i went from 55 mph to 20 mph within seconds. i was able to pull onto the side of the road. i tried to merge back onto the highway but was unable to go faster then 16 mph. i quickly pulled back over & parked the car. shut the car off & waited about 1 min & turned the car back on. the stabilitrak & the reduce engine power cleared off my dash but the check engine light stayed on. i then was able to merge back into traffic & pick up the 65 mph speed. i continued to work & had no other issues until i pulled into my work parking lot. that's when the stabilitrak & reduce engine power came back on & i lost power again. i parked the car & called the dealership. they told me to bring the vehicle in. it didn't duplicate the issue the whole way to dealership. the next day they called me to let me know they replaced a sensor & updated the computer with software. i drove the vehicle & it seemed fine. week later had the same issue. got about 5 mins into my trip & was on the interstate going 60 & all of a sudden the service stabilitrak & the reduce engine power light came back on & the vehicle dropped my speed of 60 to around 17 mph quickly. thankful that no one was close behind me when this happened. i got off an exit & pulled into a parking lot. called the dealership. this time they sent a flat bed out to get vehicle. they called & said it was a throttle body issue & that it needs replaced. they told me it isn't covered under the pt warranty. i'm seeing a number of people with this same issue & wondering why this isn't a recall? it's very unsafe especially cause you don't know when its going to happen. if your doing 65-70 mph on a highway & there are cars close to you & the vehicle decides to do this, you are in big trouble. *tr
I came to a stop and car began to shake, reduced engine power and service stabilitrak light came on. i pressed gas to go and car would not go out of 1st gear, stayed at about 15 mph. less than 1 mile from home so made it home and parked it. started again the next day, no problems and drove most of the week with no issues. same thing happened yesterday again and i pulled over 3 different times to restart to make it to my destination. took car to dealership, they called today and said the throttle body needed to be replaced, it was not covered on power train and would be $500 to repair. from what i have gathered looking online, this appears to be a very common problem and sounds like a recall needs to be done. i am currently trying to get assistance to cover repair cost. this is a very dangerous situation as i was on the expressway when it happened once and it was terrifying to go from 60 to about 30 in 30 seconds when cars all around me are going 60 and 70 mph. *tr
Engine loss of power, with service engine light illumination and reduced engine power message while driving on interstate highway when under 5 deg. f at night.. onstar advised to stop driving the vehicle due to engine damage concern and potential fire. drove vehicle in "limp mode" direct to servicing dealership, dealer advised of engine code p2135 and stated vehicle required a "throttle body" replacement (same as onstar), at a full parts & labor cost of almost 500.00 dollars. dealer stated that this repair is no longer covered under gm's powertrain warranty (yet is a p-code and is obviously powertrain related as it is the throttle body) or the emissions warranty. not only is the failure mode dangerous, so is the vehicle response to the condition (reduced power). not having the issue covered by warranty of some type makes it even worse. *tr
I was stopped at stoplight at 8pm the car shook as i started to turn left and the stability control light came on then low power engine light came on in my 2011 equinox. the car powered down to 2 mph, it would not accelerate so i turned into a parking lot, shut the car off and turned it back on same thing happened again. i called onstar and had the car towed to phillips chevrolet (great service) in frankfort, il. the service manager called and told me that the throttle body had to be replaced. i had the extended warranty so the cost was $100.00 to me, without the warranty it would have been $600.00 to fix. i asked if he has replaced many throttle bodies in this model car he said quite a few. the car was fixed. i emailed chevrolet and asked how many throttle bodies have been replaced in all cars, they said no recalls on this car. i was unsatisfied with their answer, that was not my question. chevrolet called me back and said that a person would call me about my concern. they called and told me the same story, no recalls and the dealer could have been lying to me, which made me upset. i asked to speak with a supervisor and he told there were no records kept of how many throttle bodies have been replaced, which i do not believe. he also told me about a fuel pump problem that chevy would fix only if my car had a problem and a chain belt problem that could a cause serious problem to the engine if the car showed symptoms. i was not happy with that answer either. i will take my car in for a chain belt and fuel pump check now that i am aware of the potential problem. the supervisor told me that i would have to contact your agency about my concern. i would like an answer to my original question, how many throttle bodies have been replaced in chevrolet cars? why did this happen and will a recall be issued? thank you. *tr
On numerous occasions this winter, the vehicle displayed the message "engine powering down" & "service stabilitrak" while i was driving 65 mph at night on a very busy highway during rush hour commutes. when this happens, engine slows and the vehicle comes to a crawl within minutes - barely enough time to find a place to pull off the highway. when i shut off the engine, all electrical ceased, and emergency flashers would not work. allowing the vehicle a 5 minute break then restarting (resetting the computer) fixes the problem. i researched this on the internet, and there are many equinox owners complaining about this very thing. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the engine stalled without warning while driving at various speeds. the contact was able coast onto the shoulder and restart the engine. the engine exhibited a loud, abnormal noise at start-up. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the contact was advised that the fuel pump, timing chain, actuator and engine oil was contaminated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 38,400.
