Twice in one year the timing chain guides broke causing motor damage and the car to stall while driving on a major highway almost causing a major accident both times.
I was driving home from work on hwy 35 outside of dresser, wi and the car dash lights suddenly lit up and the car made a loud rattle and smelled like burning oil. there was no warning. i was 2 miles from home so i came straight home. we checked the oil and added 3 quarts of oil before taking it aproximately 2 miles to our mechanic. they checked the engine and confirmed the rattle was deep in the motor and the motor had blown. after inspection, they found that a small port in the intake manifold was clogged. this caused a pressure build up and the rear seal to blow. we were also then told they had been seeing a lot of this problem in chevy equinox models. we had to replace the motor for a total cost of $5750.51.
Car shuts off on its own, i recently took it to get it diagnosed and didn't show anything was wrong with the vehicle. no engine light is on, nothing seems out of the ordinary, just that its starting to shut off on its own out of no where and looses power. i will be at a stop light and i would accelerate but as i accelerate the car shuts off. also, its happed on the freeway during traffic times, when its heavy in traffic and requires me to stop for a while and then accelerate it either looses power or shuts off.
I just recently bought a 2011 chevy equinox lt awd, and soon after i began driving it, the check engine light came on with code p0420 catalyst system efficiency below threshold. chevy had issued special coverage adjustment 15810 in august 2016 with regard to the catalyst system, but the mileage was over the coverage limit of 120,000 when the sca was issued, and chevy won't cover the issue now.
At red light,my car cut out. wouldn't turn over. had it towed and my mechanic said it was timing chains, which affected engine. checked 8 of 16 valves that were bent, along w/8 rocker arms cracked and torn off. $4000 to fix this issue, money i do not have. mechanic said gm knows about these issues and refuses to do a recall on this issue that has been going on for ten plus years.
A few days ago after work i stopped for gas and took a different route home. i live in a city with traffic so i idle a lot. while stopped, my 'service stabilitrak' and 'engine power reduced' came on. there was no where i could go but up the expressway. once i sped up, the car proceeded to turn off. luckily i was able to pull over onto the shoulder on top of the expressway. after that, the car wouldn't turn on anymore. after about 30 minutes, everything started flickering and then it had no electricity running at all. not even my emergency lights. this was really scary because ppl are driving really fast next to me and and it was already night time. i finally got help and had it towed the next morning. the key was stuck in the ignition but still no sign of life until after it was towed. i can't afford to take it in just yet but i am extremely scared to drive it as i am a single parent with no family in this new city.
I started having issues after a couple months of buying my vehicle. my rpm would sputter and i would always check my oil and it would be a quart low. this went on for months and i continued to drain money into my vehicle with buying oil. i replaced seals thinking it was a oil leak and it wasn't it. my engine finally was just shot so now i'm out of a car and owe money on it still and don't have the money to repair my vehicle. i am very upset with this model of vehicle bc i did research on it and a lot of compliants on this car burning oil. crazy that no one is doing anything to fix the issue. i guess chevy is crap now and just want to loose customers. i won't be buying a chevy again and will not recommend
I was driving to work this morning when i went over train tracks. as soon as i did my "stbilitrak" light came on. all wheel drive turned off as well as abs. my car would no longer accelerate. i tried to break and nearly lost control of the vehicle. i'm upset with my vehicle. i have had so many problems with it. i have always owned a chevy, but i think they quality in work is decreasing. i will be thinking about what kind of car i will get next. i prefer chevy since it's all our family has every bought, however i'm sick of having unexpected problems with it.
Fuel pump/ low fuel issues fuel pump failing, which in part leaks fuel into the engine. running error codes. low engine power light displayed on dash followed by reduce power. dealership advises it's a 900 charge. certain 2011 equinox models fall under the product emission recall 43180 high pressure fuel recall. however i am being advised mine does not although issue appears to be consistent with recall at first glance.
Burns oil really bad and today engine light came on checked the oil and nothing. no check oil no sound no nothing. car stalled out
Most recently was driving in heavy rain and the windshield wipers just stopped working in the upright position, and visibility was extremely impaired. had my granddaughter with me, they had to roll down windows to help me get safely off the road. this vehicle has had problems with the fuel system in 2015, air conditioner quit working in 2014, failed oil consumption test in 2016. i bough a new car because in didn't want mechanical problems and this vehicle has had nothing but problem after problem. it is a lemon.
While driving, the check engine light came on and the car died in the middle of the road. had to coast to the side of the rode. restarted drove another 2 miles and it died again. got it to keep running although it tried to die and took to dealer for repair. this car is a death trap. with all of the complaints, can't figure out how chevy can continue to allow this to happen. i assume when someone dies because of this issue, they may do something then.
Encountered an issue where the car would randomly shut the engine off without any type of light or warning. this happened for the first time a week before we could get it to the shop, in that week it happened 8 times. one of these times was while moving and my wife were nearly t-boned on a highly congested road. my wife began getting extremely anxious when she had to drive the car and scared it would die on the interstate.the chevy dealership said this was being caused by high oil consumption, this was news to us because the car had not notified us of that at all (no oil or check engine lights) and we were at about 3k since last oil change with full synthetic (70k total miles). the dealership then went on to say that the piston rings and pistons need to be replaced for $4,200. i googled '2011 chevy equinox piston rings' and one of the first results was 'special coverage adjustment 15285d' for excessive oil consumption caused by the pistons and rings. i asked the dealership why he never mentioned this and he said it didn't apply to our vin but he didn't know why. after a back and forth of 'that makes no sense, it's the exact issue' and 'i don't know it's above my pay grade' he eventually said 'based on the vin your car wasn't built with the same parts' which i realized after calling the gm customer service line directly was a lie. gm told me that my car was covered until november, 2018 (this happened july 19) because gm did the service adjustment out to 7 yrs/120k miles. gm told me she is up-channeling our case to see if gm will pay for some of it, still waiting to hear back.
The engine is burning oil frequently and has metal shavings in oil.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet equinox. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled on several occasions and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to winter chevrolet (3750 century ct, pittsburg, ca 94565, (925) 232-0290) where it was diagnosed that the catalytic converter misfired, the pistons and head gasket needed to be replaced, and there was no oil in the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the failure mileage was 97,700.
My vehicle ran completely out of oil. there was no indicator light to warn me there was low oil. there was never indication oil was leaking as it did not appear on my driveway. i have to replace the entire motor.
I have had all recalls done on this car. have had basically everything but the engine replaced. it runs like it is a semi. stalls at stop lights. has died twice while driving it - and would not start again even in neutral. i am afraid to drive it because it could stall out when going through an intersection. i keep the oil changed regularly. i don't know what else to do. i can not afford to replace the engine - i still owe on my car loan on this car. in all the 40 plus years i have driven cars, i have never had this much trouble with a vehicle. i can understand having to do something every once in awhile - like transmission, etc. i have spent over $3000 on different "fixes" that havn't fixed it. i am usually a chevrolet person, but i am not going to buy a chevrolet again.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet equinox. while attempting to park, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to curry auto center (2906 e buick cadillac blvd, bloomington, in 47401), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 103,000. the vin was unavailable.
The air bag light came on a few weeks ago and the light on the dashboard stays on when driving.
My husband, newborn baby and i were driving on the highway when the vehicle suddenly slowed and then stalled in the middle of traffic. this occured every time my husband used the brakes. luckily we managed to make it back home safely. the vehichle constantly needs oil and then it died for the last time about a month ago as we pulled into a family members driveway.
Leak in rear main oil seal. expensive repair due to labor. same problem shown online with this make, model, and year. casts doubts on quality of american automobile manufacturers. gm should issue recall.
Failure timing chain tensioner and chain guides at 60k miles, replaced timing chain, balance chain, guides and tensioner and excessive oil consumption
My car is consuming huge amounts of oil before it is time for an oil change. i am putting oil in this car at least once a week. i let chevy know of this issue but they said that there has not been a recall for this problem. i only drive to school and work which is only a 15 mile round trip. this is ridiculous!!
Shortly after i financed the vehicle it started having issues while idling, if i idle too long it will start to shake and will shut down. i have poured money into fixing the vehicle and spent the last two 3 years trying to fix the original issue of it shutting down. i will lose throttle in the gas pedal and it will just turn off out of nowhere while i'm driving away from my home. it seems to not like when i idle or drive slow when i'm on the freeway i have to make sure i'm driving fast the gas pedal keeps throttle if i drive too slow it's a risk for it to starting to shake and shut down again. while trying to find the cause of the problem mechanics have found parts that were years past due of needing replacing. so while they thought that that was the cause of the problem and it looked possible with a condition it was in every time we would think that we have solved the problem until the next day when i try to drive my vehicle and it does the same thing. i have been through five mechanics trying to solve this issue and it is becoming a nightmare not even the dealership could figure it out.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet equinox. while driving various speeds, the contact heard a loud abnormal knocking noise under the hood of the vehicle. there were no warning indicators illuminated. john north ford, inc. (3002 us-50, emporia, ks 66801, (620) 343-1700) diagnosed that the vehicle was burning oil too fast. the dealer added oil to the vehicle, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 113,000.
On march 24 my check engine light came and the vehicle died several times and i took it to the mechanic. he called the next day and said the oil was completely gone and the engine was ruined. i have changed the oil every 3-4000 miles religiously and now this? i was told it would cost $6000 to replace the motor.
My 2011 chevy equinox was not picking up speed, and would shut off when i stopped for more than 30 seconds. the engine also sounded very loud when in park. i had a diagnostic done at the dealership and it was determined that the timing chain needed to be replaced. my car had been in the shop two months prior for replacement of the camshaft position sensor. my car currently has 102,000 miles. the dealership said that metal shavings were also found in my oil. i tried driving my car after the diagnostic and the "reduced engine power" indicator came on, causing me to have to pull over on the highway and be towed. i contacted gm regarding a recall and was informed that the particular model of my vehicle was not included in the recall and since my warranty had expired there was nothing they could do. i have read reports of my 2011 equinox owners who have had similar issues.
I bought the car and drove it for a couple weeks. about every 200-400 miles i would have to add oil. sometimes when checking the dip stick there would be no oil at all on the dip stick. after week 3 i was driving and the reduce engine power came on. i had it towed 360 miles to the dealer i purchased it from and was told the engine is junk and something in the timing chain had failed. the dealer won't stand behind the vehicle one bit and neither will the factory so now i'm stuck with a car that doesn't run and have to purchase a new motor.
I've had this truck for a little over 2 years and when i first got it there was no ticking noise then made a year ago i noticed the ticking noise. i took it to a chevy dealership and was told that it was normal for the model. it began to stall so i took it back and was told that the o2 sensor was the cause . later on that day the ticking began to get louder and then as i came to a complete stop and raised the hood oil was spraying every where. had it towed to the shop for them to tell me that the timing chain had been slapping up against the valve cover and had cracked the cover so that's why the oil was spraying every where. he also told me that the engine in my truck was defective from the start and that chevy knows about this . so now i'm stuck trying to find a motor for a truck that i'm still paying notes on and can't drive. the fact that chevy knows about the problems with the timing chain, the cam sensor and the oil consumption and is not held accountable for the damage to our vehicles is crazy. i come from a chevy loving family and ive always owned one and but now i'm looking for something else because chevy doesn't stand behind their products anymore and yes i always change my oil on time and all of my maintenance has been done on time.
Excessive oil consumption with less than 1000 miles on this oil change i heard ticking noise from under the hood so i checked the oil to find that there was none on the dip stick, i added 3.5 quarts. whats so bother some for me is that there was no warning light. there was a recall on these suv's for that vary problem but it expires at 120000 miles or 7.5 years which ever comes first all other recalls are 120000 miles or 10 years except this one, what would have happened if i was on a long trip with the family ran completely out of oil , car dies on expressway without any warning then what.i did take it to the dealer & service was the one that told me about the 7.5 years. this car had a comprehensive carfax report with dealer maintenance being done since the car was new. no mention of the excessive oil consumption . that was the reason that i purchased it
My vehicle randomly dies while driving. at 94500 ck engine light came on. had one solenoid replaced and changed the oil. a week later the engine stalled a few times in a parking lot. no check engine light was on. replaced a 2nd solenoid. 3/5/19, a week little over a week it stalled 5 times in a parking lot. pd again to have mechanic scan it nothing showed up. 3/7/19 changed the spark plugs. 3/9/19 drove to milwaukee. got there check engine light came on,stabil trek light & engine power reduced notification. an hour later seemed fine. on the way home all the same lights came on in rolling traffic had to pull off bc it died a couple of times. let it sit a bit then started home again. after about 5 miles going 60mph on the interstate in a snow/rain storm the vehicle died, while driving it. i barely got it to the shoulder of the interstate. a state trooper had to sit behind for safety. bc of the storm the tow truck was 90 minutes out. this was a life threatening situation. i could have been hit & killed.hauled to a mechanic 50 miles away. code reader (attached) showed 5 errors but couldn't find anything wrong that caused the problem. took it to a certified gm dealership. the mechanic couldn't replicate the issue so doesn't know what it wrong. had the timing chain replaced but mechanic didn't think that was the issue. i am afraid to drive it because it could randomly die again in heavier traffic on the interstate and to me is life threatening. there are so so many people commenting online with the same problem that this vehicle should be recalled before people do die if it hasn't happened already. i have only owned this vehicle 5 months and have had it to the mechanic at least 5 times. i don't want to unload this death trap on someone else but i am afraid to drive it for fear of losing my life or someone else's.
I have experienced over excessive use of oil, on both street and highway driving, while in motion, my car started to choke itself out when i would stop at a stop sign/light. over the past 3 years of owning this chevy 2011 equinox, i have had excessive oil usage. the oil usage was so extensive that i was having to put a quart of oil every 500 miles or less.......all of this excessive oil burning has to exhaust somewhere, i reached out to my local mechanic shop and asked them to see what they could find out for me, and they returned with a oil consumption test paper to fill out. i had been doing this oil consumption test when my exhaust started to clog causing my rear engine seal to blow, and leak every bit of oil out of my motor, all of this resulted from the excessive oil consumption over the past years, causing my cadillac converter to become clogged, therefore, causing the pressure of the emissions, that was not able to be exhausted out, to cause my rear engine seal to blow. my vehicle had to be towed to a shop. these problems have occured while the vehicle was in motion until my rear engine seal busted, causing my vehicle to be unmovable without assistance from a tow truck.
I bought my 2011 equinox with 45k miles, 1.5 years ago and have had many problems. had to change the exhaust manifold, muffler and now i am having power issues. the car will stall when idling and lose power when driving. i had my 3 children in the car and when making a left turn at an intersection i lost all acceleration. thank god there was not a car coming, because we would have been seriously hurt for it is normally a busy intersection. i still owe a lot of money on the vehicle and i am scared to drive it. this problem occurs often and i was told to change the cam shaft, which i did to no avail.
My vehicle has 63,000 miles and when i press the gas peddle and get no response at all. this mostly happens when the vehicle is cold, but it has happened other times as well. i was told to change the intake and exhaust camshafts solenoids, but this did not help. i changed the exhaust manifold, still did not help.
I got a check engine light and i went to get it tested and it says that it is a exhaust position timing issue. no mechanic can fix it because it was a design issue by the manufacturer. i noticed that the car has been jerking around when i drive, it won't back up and it backfires and i'm terrified of driving it.
Windshield wipers stopped working while driving. check engine light comes on while driving and oil runs out well before recommend oil change and no low oil warning lights come on. car burns a lot of oil and makes a loud noise from engine but told that this is normal for this brand.
I have had my suv worked on 6 different times due stalling, loosing power, cutting out,and not wanting to accelerate . they replaced the throttle body updated the computer replaced air filter, etc. worked for 2 weeks and now is still having this problem.
The car has began using ridiculous amounts of oil, i have to put a quart of oil in every couple of weeks, the other issue is the transmission has started having issues it literally just passed the 100k mileage mark and this started, as if it was timed by the warranty, i see tons of people with this issue
Excessive oil consumption, manufacturer won't honor warranty because it expired 4 months ago, despite mileage being half to requirement. we were not notified of the warranty or it's expiration.
On 2.2.2019 around 11am i left work restoration hardware outlet 301 w main st, christiana, de 19702 and drove across the street to get lunch at acme 1 university plaza, newark, de 19702. it was 28* out and we had a few days of below 32*. as i was leaving the acme parking lot all the lights came on in the dash. i immediatley stopped and shut off car. across the street was an exxon station on 300 chapman rd, newark, de 19713. the service person said i was leaking oil. he put in a quart then another it came right back out and said it could be a rear main seal. i did some research and found a special coverage adjustment 'that stated---- plugged pcv orifice in intake manifold for the 2010-2014 chevrolet equinox equipped with 2.4l ecotec engine (laf, lea or luk) 2.4l engine (laf, lea or luk) that have experienced high oil consumption may also experience a frozen and/or plugged pcv (positive crankcase ventilation) system during cold weather operation. this condition may increase crankcase pressure leading to a rear crankshaft seal oil leak. i know that gm needed to look at this so i had it towed to diver chevrolet 2101 pennsylvania ave, wilmington, de 19806 (302) 482-8359. almost a week later they called and said the rear main seal blew out and thats what was stated on the service order. i asked about the march 2015 bulletin no.: 14882 . they said my car was not part of that group and it would be $3200 to fix. i asked how can this be when it clearly is the same issue stated in the bulletin exactly. cold temps, frozen pvc, blown rear main. i was even told a few car were in during that cold snap with same issue, but those car had ext warranty or were part of the group vin . so now im here trying to get help from you. this is a known problem and they wont acknowledge it. im a single mom with 2 kids and i dont know what to do.
Engine started knocking and smoking, died while moving. engine seized due to no oil. added 1 qt of oil the day before. low oil light did not come on. oil had been changed within 3,000 miles. car needs whole new engine.
Vehicle leaking excessive amount of oil. bulletin number 14882 doesn't cover my vehicle even though it is the identical problem as what was described in the bulletin.
Massive oil leak from engine and rear main seal blew out
The motor hade 80,000 mile on and blow all the oil out just as the 2012 equinox did and now i have no motor.gone down the road about 55mph. on hwy. 55 in montrose mn.
I own 2011 chevy equinox. only has 80,000 miles. first occurrence started as i was driving on the freeway and the vehicle stalled on me couple of times as i was driving or at stop sign. malfunction engine sensor light turned on. took it to two different people to look at it for an estimate, since taking it to the dealership will cost an arm and a leg, both said timing chain problem and i would need to get a new motor! also excessive oil consumption yet no sensor turns on. checked to see if there were any recalls but only see hundreds of complaints with the same problem!
When the can starts it sounds like a diesel.some thimes the enison will turn over and over and i have to turn it off the try to start it than it will start.the car will die in the midel of the highway. some thime i have to pump the gas to get it going like it just ran out of fule.
Oil consumption issue, car uses so much oil in between oil changes and doesn't alert you when it's low.
First equinox owned - gm replaced engine at no cost to me. thought it was safe to purchase another equinox. own a 2011 chevrolet equinox fwd 2.4 liter engine. excessive oil consumption; stalling while at stoplights, etc.; engine light comes on frequently; multiple wheel hub assemblies replaced; wiper transmission replaced; clattering noise within engine that cannot be fixed per mechanic; stablitrak and abs lights on; limp mode several times. have spent many hundreds of dollars to fix. going to gm for complete engine replacement. 126,600 miles at present. purchased 9/8/2016 with 80,437 miles.
Stopped at the gas station and the car would not restart. several times the car died while on a busy highway. when i try to start the car the windshield wipers go back and forth 3 times and all power is there but engine is totally dead. sometimes after several tries and a few hours later the car will start. i have had 4 mechanics, 3 were dealers, and nobody could tell me what was going on.....and yet i was charged 3 out of 4 times. my husband spoke to 2 street mechanics and both without hesitation said it is the pcm computer. after much research and continued problems i am now ordering a new pcm and installing it myself. there is also a ticking sound which seems to baffle the mechanics. and the car consumes tons of oil. unfortunately i am seeing that there are so many chevy equinox owners out there having these same issues and chevrolet is not helping. shame on you chevrolet!
Error code p010 camshaft position actuator solenoid. rough idle, dies in stop and go traffic.or when stopped at a stop sign and turning. there was a recall for this issue on cars built in different factories, they refuse to repair mine because it wasnt made in one of those factories. have had the same issue since vehicle was 3 months old. chevy dealer told me they couldn't find any issues
