We have classified the 81 complaints from 2005 Chevrolet Corvette about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Frequently unable to shift out of park once the car is started. shift interlock solenoid seems to be faulty. vehicle is always stationary in a parking space. sometimes i turn it off and try again and it works. very annoying.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet corvette. on two different occasions, while attempting to start the vehicle, it failed to crank. the contact stated that the electronic signal malfunctioned. the vehicle was taken to wally edgar chevrolet inc (3805 s lapeer rd, lake orion, mi 48360), but no diagnostic failure codes were found and the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. the vehicle was then taken to jefferson chevrolet (2130 e jefferson ave, detroit, mi 48207) where the dealer confirmed that no recalls were associated with the vin. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 04v060000 (steering). the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 8-1941692497. the approximate failure mileage was 53,000.
The 2005 chevrolet corvette dim headlight recall is a scam. chevrolet does not fix dim headlight failure then demands over $750 to repair dim headlight failure. from time of dim headlights coming on they fail after about 10 minutes and do not function again for hours after car is shut down. (moving car has no headlights until bright lights or for lights are manually turned on)
Service active handling system message appears intermittingly, vehicle was in motion. didn't notice any handling issue but i am concerned that the car will behave in an unsafe manor.
It has been reported numerous times of the excessive battery drainage of these vehicles. gm decided that the car would need to be placed in reverse with the parking brake engaged for the car to be totally turned off. this causes the battery to drain excessively, i have replaced 4 batteries in a year. you will be stranded wherever you're at. gm has not tried to resolve this matter. what they did was in 2006 took the function off the car, so they wouldn't have to deal with it. this needs to be resolved by gm, or does it take a dead battery, a jump ,and a half charged car to shut down in the middle of the road causing an accident.
There is a battery draining issue which the dealership and thousands of c-6 corvette owners are experiencing, particularly the 2005 year. i have owned this car for one month and have had to have it jumped numerous times.. carfax has documentation on file.
This car will drain the battery after three days of sitting and sometimes after one day of sitting. this a a manual shift car and thousand of fellow c-6 corvette owners are experiencing this problem and the dealer does not know how to solve the issue. every thing has been check in my car and is listed as working correctly from the dealership. my car only has 39,000 mile and is factory original. carfax has documentation of all repairs and issues. as stated this is a 6 speed manual shift car. the automatic cars are not experiencing this problem. i had to have this car jump started 6 times within 30 days. help please!!!!
My problem is very similar to below. my 2005 chevy corvette will run fine for a while. then for no particular reason, the dic will flash - check traction control, check abs, etc. if i shut off the car, then restart, this message will stop, but the security lamp will stay on. the time between instances will decrease until the car will not start periodically. i have had the bcm and ecm changed. this fixes the problem for a while, but the problem comes back. i have also seen the error "no fob" even when a new battery has been put in the fob and it worked just fine an hour ago. this is getting expensive. i have put new batteries in, nothing seems to prevent this from eventually happening. the corvette forum has many posts on this issue. from another post: i have had several incidents of dead battery syndrome (dbs) since i bought my 2005 corvette in october 2008. the battery has been replaced at least 4 times. i have bought this to the dealers and gm's attention and they say that there is nothing wrong with the car. they refuse to acknowledge that this condition affects very many 2005 manual transmission cars with much data on the internet on forums and blogs. many of us have found alternative methods to keep the car operable. gm needs to finally acknowledge this condition and issue a fix.
Automatic transmission shifter will lock in park, cannot shift from park to reverse or drive. referred to operators manual but no resolve. condition began with less than 6,500 miles on the car. will shift out of park sometimes; and is unpredictable; will occur anywhere at anytime which is a safety issue without regard as to where the driver may be located. extensive research has proven this is a design flaw with the shift interlock solenoid that was corrected by gm for the 2006 models. urgent to recall for all 2005 models with this shifter design.
Around 1-13-15, spoke with "[xxx]" about recall i received on my 2005 corvette, which stated the parts were available and i should contact the dealer to schedule an appointment. [xxx] said they did not have the parts, but would call when they were available. today is february 23, 2015, and i still have heard nothing from watson chevrolet regarding the recall on my 2005 chevrolet corvette. how long should one be expected to wait for a recall repair? information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Accelerated quickly to 35 mph and when i reached the end of the block i attempted to slow and make a right hand turn. at that time i got a warning to check the charging system and noticed i had no power steering. managed to muscle the wheel to complete the turn (had it been my wife there is no way she would have been able to turn the wheel) and continue slowly down the street to my driveway where i again muscled the car into the driveway. discovered that the motor was running but the serpentine belt was not moving. thus no alternator, power steering etc. i had my independent mechanic check it out, discovered that the bolt that holds the harmonic balancer pulley on the crank shaft stripped and the crank shaft was turning and not moving the pulley. he called the dealership to inquire about the parts and they said they have plenty in stock. he thought this was surprising and that it was not a special order part. the service manager told him that they have had a number of similar incidents. both my mechanic and i think this should qualify for some type of recall if it is happening with frequency. obviously some kind of design flaw and/or material flaw, plus they didn't key the pulley so if the bolt strips you would not loose the power steering, etc. if this had happened at high speed or during the action of turning i believe a serious accident and/or injury could have occurred. cost of the parts and repair were $2300.00. *tr
A strong fume odor enter my house as if something was burning, my corvette was in my garage it hasnt been used in more than 3days.....i noticed it was coming from the bottom of the car, and in effect it was! contacted my mechanic and he advised me that it was the abs system caught on fire damaging the conector, module and regulator. he found a leak of brake fluid thru the modulator that cause the modules cables burned the connector. had to change all the abs system since chevrolet modified the previous abs system cause it was defective. however no recall has been made to this system. an aprox $3500. in repairs for a system that they know is defective. we were lucky nothing else in our garage/house got damage it was an scary situation.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet corvette. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start and a warning light illuminated. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 14v251000 (electrical system, exterior lighting) however, the failure persisted. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 61,000.
I am having the exact same issues as described in nhtsa campaign number: 14v251000. brake lights are staying on when not depressing the brake pedal. *tr

Driving on highway at 60 mph and the low beam head lights went off without me turning them off. car dash displayed " head lights suggested". they did not come back on. *tr
I am driving at night all of a sudden my lights go out and will not come back on..... come to find out the fuse box gets to hot and the wires inside are affected causing it to fail the dealer says its not under warranty and i think this should be a recall.this almost caused me to crash into someone. if i did get hurt because of this i would file a law suit. *tr
I received the following notice, but gm has not contacted me about fixing the problem: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ you are receiving this message because you have requested to be notified if there is a safety recall regarding vehicles from nhtsa's office of defects investigation. please click on the following nhtsa campaign id links to view the recall information. nhtsa campaign id number :14v251 manufacturer :general motors llc make / model years :chevrolet / 2005-2007 subject : loss of low beam headlights. *tr
This is in regards to the recent recall on 2005-2007 corvette head light assembly. i have a similar problem though the electric short in the light harness caused my right blink to not function. the gm dealership that i took it to stated the whole light assembly had to be replaced. my corvette has not been recalled as of yet and when i contact gm they don't see to understand my claim. from my understanding the harness that is causing the low beams to not work is the same harness for the entire light assembly. i had this repaired already and looking to help to get some compensation back. *tr
Vehicle will not shift from park to drive. vehicle shift lever will not allow movement from park. vehicle is unable to move. repeating the following procedure, repeatedly, will eventually allow shift lever to move from the park position to drive: exit / re-enter vehicle, wait 10 seconds, place foot on brake pedal, press ignition switch, move shift lever, repeatedly until shift lever moves or place vehicle in "accessory" mode and attempt to move shift lever. all steps may be need repeated attempts. no force, beyond typical use or pressure to move shift lever, is applied. problem is present in any type of weather, time of day. surface is flat and level. vehicle not parked on incline surface. vehicle is not abused, raced, or driven in high-performance manner. vehicle is not driven on a daily basis. *tr
In my 2005 chevy corvette, driving north on highway i55 near the louisiana/ mississippi line at 10 pm my lowbeam headlights stopped working. used hi beams to return home. when car sits for several hours and engine compartment cools off low beams work normally. when engine compartment heats up during normal operation lights extinguish again. researched on the corvette forum and found this to be a common problem. the issue is in the fuse box located in the engine compartment. a wire in the box breaks at a bend. i have made the suggested repair as per the forum but felt it important to report the problem as it put me in a dangerous situation. *tr
Low beam headlights quit intermittently. *tr..updated 09-29-15 *bf
While driving my vehicle at night, my headlights suddenly turned off. i pulled over and restarting the car hoping it was just a minor electrical short etc. however, the headlights did not respond. i was forced to drive 20 miles in the dark with my fog lamps and at times, my high beams. i am aware of an existing investigation relating to this problem and it appears that this problem is widespread. clearly having your headlights turn off without warning when you need them poses a significant safety hazard to myself, any passengers and other motorists. i hope the investigation will continue resulting in a conclusive outcome and a resolution identified. please feel free to contact me with any questions. thank you. *tr
After starting the vehicle an letting it run for a few mins the lights just went out for no reason do not know why or how. *tr
Beginning in feb, 2014, my '05 corvette began exhibiting loss of low beam headlights due to a problem identified by gm. may of 2014, a gm recall # 13146 was assigned to the problem with a commitment from gm that the underhood bussing electric center (ubec) would be modified for vehicle owners at no cost (see nhtsa campaign number 14v251000). i have contacted chevrolet a few times since then, the last contact being yesterday (10/29/14). i was issued a case number by chevrolet/gm (not included in this description as it could lead to personal information). despite being aware of the need to correct this safety issue, i was informed 10/29/14 that chevrolet/gm still has not provided the re-worked ubec for replacement. lack of low-beams is a real problem as i am unable to knowingly drive at night due to lack of sufficient illumination when using only the fog lights, or over-illumination using just the high beams (this causes other vehicles to "flash" me to let me know my brights are on). occasionally, i will be caught after sundown and forced to drive with either only fog lights or high beams. i am frustrated and disappointed by gm's lack of movement on correcting this problem, which is why i am contacting the nhtsa. *tr
2005 chevrolet corvette - automatic transmission frequently sticks in the park position. turning the ignition off and back on will eventually clear the situation but may have to be done several times to get the shifter to come out of park. these malfunctions are well documented in on-line forums relating to corvettes. in many cases, a costly repair is only a temporary fix as the new components (shifter assembly) eventually fail as well. come on gm step up and take care of these issues as they have the potential of putting the safety of operators at risk. *tr
My corvette headlights went out and would not come on until the corvette cooled down. *tr
I started to have issues with my low beam headlights turning on in my 2005 c6 corvette. the switch was turned to automatic and would not turn on. when the switch was turned to manual mode the low beam lights would still not turn on. the high beams and fog lamps work with regular success. when the car sits for long periods of time and the car is cool the low beam lights will turn on and stay on for a short period of time, but as soon as the car is brought up to operating temperature the low beam lights fail to work. i did some research and found out this is a major problem for 2005-2007 c6 corvettes and the nhtsa along with chevrolet should file an immediate recall before lives are lost. it's a easy fix with replacement of the fuse box in the engine compartment. *tr
The automatic shift lever locks in the park position. the vehicle cannot be shifted from park to reverse or drive. the owners manual lists a procedure to follow in the event of this happening. it may or may not solve the problem on every occasion. there are reports of total failure with the vehicle needing a tow to the dealership for repair. the ultimate solution is a complete shifter replacement due to a faulty solenoid not available as separate part in the shifter assembly. there is a gm service procedure for this problem but the ultimate cost to the owner is in the $800.00 to $1200.00 range with many owners reporting issues for the 2005-06 model years. a design change was instituted after the 2006 build year. there has been no participation from gm for the failures.
Driving on the freeway in traffic at night, my low beam headlights shut off and my only option was to use my hi beams. people were flashing their bright lights and i was blinding other drivers. the next day the headlights came on, then switched off 5 minutes after driving. for the last few days they have rarely even came on, and when they do, they will turn off quickly. i drive my corvette every day, and this is very unsafe. a police officer stopped me and gave me a verbal warning last night when my lights switched off and i had to turn my bright lights on right in front of him.
Low beam headlight stop working after cars engine comes to running temperature. i have spent many weeks looking online and speaking with other owners and the information coming back is consistent. fuse box under the hood is faulty and will require replacement. no running headlights is a very serious vault in my book and thought i should report the issue. i contacted gm and they were of very little help. i am still trying to work with them in regards to resolving the this matter. *tr
Driving at 1-35 mph engine and electrical will shut off, all lights and engine shuts off. put car in park, engine starts right away. in 2014 gm recall of 2005 cobalt and pontiac for same problem, it was said that six people died. i have the same problem. this almost happened to me. i am afraid to drive the car. called gm and talked to a specialist named scott at 1-866-790-5600 ext. 31087 . i was asked to take the car back to the dealership, so they will look at it for the 3rd time. this has been going on since may 08, 2013 -- almost 1 year. please help me before something happens to me or my family. the car is at jack schmitt chevrolet, 127 regency park drive; o'fallon il 62269 (618) 628-2500 www.jackschmitt.com. *tr
I was driving on the highway service handling traction system light came on and car went to right and l ran in a ditch 11000 dollars in damage and not one air open. *tr
automatic shifter gets stuck in park. following the manual procedure does not help. pushing release button does not help, pushing shifter forward does not help. this has happened at least 25 to 30 times. dealer says replace shifter to fix. what's to stop this from recurring? this appears to be a safety problem. *tr
Turn signal indicator began flashing rapidly to indicate the turn signal was not working properly. the front turn signal was not working. the turn signal bulb melted the internal socket so the internal harness system needs to be replaced. chevrolet needs to issue a recall to change the specifications used for the turn signal light bulb so they do not melt and ruin the system. *tr
After about 30mins of run time low beam lights would shut off. after the vehicle was parked for a min 30mins low beams would work again. feb2013 low beams would not work at all. *tt
When first starting the car the head light come on, after driving for about 20 min. and the engine gets hot the head lights go out and will not come back on. dash board stes head lights suggested. *tr
Intermittent problem with the column lock. the lock will not register as disengaged and will not allow the engine to start. the only thing that will rectify it is pulling a battery cable for sever seconds and reattaching it. this resets the lock and allows the engine to start. the problem occurs regularly (approx 2 to 3 weeks). *tr
Both low beam headlights went out at the same time driving home at night. next day they were working fine when i started the car again. after driving about 15 minutes they both went out again. *tr
Headlamps quit working while driving at night. both headlamps did not turn on and i had to drive with the fog lights. i checked the relay and fuses which were all okay. this morning, they did work. i've researched other owner forums of which this incident has happened from a bad ground from an overheated fuse box in the engine compartment, with owners driving at night and driving lights going out inexplicably, which could lead to serious injury. *tr
My headlights stopped working. the light bulbs are fine and will work in the morning and it seems that it is a defect with the fuse box. in the morning when the fuse box is cold the lights will turn on. afternoon and evening they fail due to temperature change. the fuse box needs to be replaced. *tr
While turning in a corner on the highway, i lost power steering and i had smoke and debris flying out of the back of the car. luckily there was nobody near me, and i managed to steer off the road safely. looked in the engine and the accessory belt was shredded, which also destroyed the heat shield material on the inside of the hood. got a friend to pick me up and we installed a new belt. drove 0.5 miles and the belt flew completely off this time. power steering completely died, and i could barely turn the wheel while being tailgated by cars. cooling system failed, coolant flying all over the engine bay, under the car, and on the highway. i'm glad i wasn't killed. checked all the pulleys and found that the crankshaft pulley bolt had backed out, which i later found out caused wobble on the belt and led the engine/car to fail. got a tow to the nearest gm dealer. there are many complaints about this on internet corvette forums, and gm is aware of the issue (tsb #05-06-01-001a). it seems like crashing and causing accidents would warrant a recall. *tr
Water leak in 2005 chevrolet corvette caused very strong mold/mildew odor in the car and destroyed the passenger carpet and insulation, which were removed by technician 122 at sun chevrolet in mcmurray, pa on 1/25/2012. since driving the car without carpet or insulation, the metal on the passenger side does get extremely hot and could cause serious burns. this problem should be remedied immediately. recently a rain storm caused more water to leak inside and collect under the passenger seat and almost damaged the electrical components located on the passenger floor while driving. luckily i had a towel with me and quickly absorbed all of the water and returned back home to vacuum the remaining water before anything electric was damaged. this problem is still occurring and has been determined by a chevrolet dealership that it may be a faulty weather strip causing the water leak. if i had been going faster at highway speeds this could have caused major damage to the cars electronics and may have even caused the car to shut off which can lead to a traffic accident and cause major injuries or death. the weather strip should be recalled and/or replaced and the leak repaired by general motors llc at no cost because this is a safety hazard and a factory defect. i spent a lot of hard earned money on this car and did not expect any problems like this. this issue alone has already cost me $235.85 and hours of my life that i will no't get back. the problem was never resolved in 2012 and only got worse. the cost of the carpet and insulation, that were damaged and removed, is almost $1,000 for replacements and labor. general motors llc is responsible for the leak and should provide these items at no cost as well as a replacement weather strip that does not leak as the original is a factory defect. this water leak has been documented and diagnosed by sun chevrolet on 10/8/2013. *tr
I was driving at night and the headlights turned off. after further incidents i discovered that the headlights work properly when the car is cold then after about 15 minutes the lo-beams go out. high beams and fog light function still works properly. the dash indicator on dash indicates lights are on even when they are not. it appears to be a thermal problem. you can drive a short distance and the headlights work properly. park the car and drive it a short time later and the headlights don't work. i've discovered others on the internet have the same issue with the 2005 corvette and they ended up having to replace the entire fuse box. *tr
Headlights randomly turning off once the fuse box in the engine bay is warm. when the car is cold the headlights work fine. *tt
I was driving at approximately 20mph leaving my house when the active handling light came on along with abs lights. my foot was on the gas and in first gear. suddenly the breaks apply by themselves causing the car to veer left. at this point i could not control my steering wheel to correct the problem. this happens randomly and i can not duplicate the problem. it is very dangerous. i am worried if this happens at high speeds, a very bad accident can occur. this first occurred on 08/03/11. it happened for about 5 minutes when i left my house. i had to turn off all active handling and traction control for this to stop. i drove fine the rest of the day with it off. it did not happen again for a couple of weeks. around 08/19/11, it happened again. this time at a best buy parking lot traveling at 10mph. i immediately contacted the maita chevrolet dealership in elk grove, ca and took the car in the next day. i took the car in and they could not duplicate the problem. they said that there is nothing wrong with the car. i told them that it is not normal to drive the car and suddenly the brakes apply by themselves and veers to the left. they said there is nothing that they can do because they could not replicate the problem. i am worried that if this happens on the freeway while i am driving it can be a very dangerous situation for everyone. i am not sure what i can do but i know it is a safety issue. *tr
