Service air bag light is constantly on. dealer says its caused by sitting something in the passenger seat that isn't very heavy (purse, book, shopping bag, etc) and "confusing" the sensor, though i do not place anything in the seat. when the service light is on, the airbag will not deploy in an accident. was told by a dealer service manager that they really weren't sure how to/if they could fix it. *tr

Strong smell of gas when im driving the car in and outside. the car has trouble starting, i had it checked and was told there was a fuel leak. called gm and was told even though their was a special coverage for my state they would not fix the leak. this is a dangerous leak due to a faulty plastic part. i hope my family doesn't die from inhaling fumes or blow up. kinda makes you think its another pinto exploding gas tank deal. i guess they wont do anything until someone dies. i have had many problems with this car starting a week after i bought it new. knocking when the engine starts, using oil now, airbags not working, small electrical things keep going wrong. when i take it in im told they cant reproduce the problems. *kb

Once in a while the sign check the air bag showed up, but now it stays on all the time. car never was involved in any crash. the sensor or the air bug must be faulty from the beginning. *js

i have had problems from beginning. we never received recall notice. not two months after having purchased this vehicle the power steering started to fail (our son was a little over 2-1/2 years old. i had to pull over as fast as i could to keep us from crashing. i was never notified of a recall on this vehicle by notice only by the failure of this vehicle. the car was brought in and serviced. hence bulletin #10023 (power steering motor) performed on 5/25/2010. problem 2 i have had with this vehicle: the mechanic told me where i get my oil changed that there was a recall on cobalt for that problem, so i researched it only to be told there was "no recall" so to speak on my vin#- -my mother was told there was again no recall that matched my vin number the chevy cobalt had to have the fuel pump replaced because it was leaking gas. additionally, the fuel injector was replaced as well because it's also part of that recall and the one that was on the car was cracked and leaking. this could have caused more than a fire--it could have blown up while i was driving. yet again the liaison provided me with this: #12191 (fuel tank module) performed on 10/10/2012. on to the third recall- low the current recall, 13454, is now showing for your vin and we are sending out notices this week with more specific information. the door handle on the driver side has all but fallen off, out of warranty again the dealer and was told there were no recalls, so around turns and corners my car gets loud. don't even let me get started the upholstery in this vehicle because water alone stains it. along with the struts making noises when the car turns, the a/c issue having that replaced, the breaks, the rotors turned when does it stop. i also found that it was very possible the airbag situation was due to the electrical problems as well (hence the faulty ignition kill switch). *tr
2007 cobalt, could not steer car straight, went into a ditch, car flipped, car hit a tree, none of the airbags deployed!!!! *tr
I have had a 2007 chevy cobalt for almost a year, and it has been wrecked, but was fixed and it has just around 60,000 miles on it and the power steering goes out in it. i can turn the car off and then back on and it will work just fine for a few more minutes and then go out again. *tr
On february 10, 2010, while traveling west on 14th street another driver in the left lane entered my lane (right lane), and i slammed on brakes to stop from hitting the other drivers vehicle. despite the fact it was a sunny very cold day outside and the streets were dry the brakes on my vehicle locked up as though i have an anti-locking braking system, which i don't have on my car. the steering wheel became none responsive and my car ended up jumping the curb and hitting a telephone pole on the front driver side of the car. there is damage to the driver side headlight and a dent in the same area in the shape of the pole; furthermore, the airbag never deployed. the car is currently at a gm body shop being repaired by the other drivers insurance; however, in light of the recent gm recall about an issue with the steering wheel i am bringing my accident to your attention just in case the issues are related. *tr
My husband and i have a 2007 chevy cobalt ltz , for about three weeks we had been noticing vibrations in the steering. also when braking the steering would shake. during that time we got a letter from our dealership about the side airbags. they said that they had sold it as if it had side airbags, but it didn't have any.on our way up there to the dealership we began to experience tightness in the steering just as we started on the interstate . we had not gone very far when our cobalt began to fish tail and my husband was unable to control the car and we then went into two 360s and began to roll according to witnesses we rolled 4 or 5 times before the car rested on the right side. also front airbags did not come out. it felt as if the car had no power steering at all. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet cobalt. a truck rear-ended her vehicle , which caused her to crash into another vehicle. none of the airs bag deployed. another occupant in the vehicle went to the hospital. a police report was available. the failure mileage was 25,000.
Within a month of purchasing a new 2007 chevy cobalt - i began hearing rattling noises from my vehicle. i have had the car in for repairs numerous times. multiple components have been replaced and or repaired. i currently have 15,000 miles on the vehicle - to this day i can still hear rattling noises and clunking noise coming from the steering-suspension. the mechanics have now told me they don't know what's wrong and suggested i try a different dealership. i have contacted chevy and received no help in settling this issue. if chevy would of had their return policy when i purchased - i would of gladly returned the vehicle - i make car payments on a lemon. i don't even like my daughter to ride in the vehicle for fear of her safety. i fear i will be driving down the road the front end will fall apart. it scares me to death. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet cobalt. the air bag warning light has illuminated since the vehicle was purchased. the contact has taken the vehicle to the dealer and they reset the air bag sensor and replaced the seat belt sensor. three months after the repairs were made, the air bag light came on. the dealer stated that the vehicle was repaired. a month and a half later the air bag light came back on. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer again and the diagnostic test indicated that failure was caused by the wiring in the ignition and the air bag coil which were repaired. three months later the failure recurred. the contact is concerned that in the event of a crash, the air bag will not deploy. the failure mileage was 37,000.
A man in a full-size pickup truck ran a stop light. i braked to miss him and turned towards the right. i ended up hitting him on his truck bedside right behind his tire. i was going about 35 at the time of impact. the airbags did not go off - but after the crash a service airbag light came on. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet cobalt. the contact was driving approximately 25 mph when another vehicle crashed into the front of the contact's vehicle. the air bags failed to deploy. there were no injuries and a police report was not filed. the vehicle was taken to a repair shop where the dealer advised that the height of the other vehicle probably did not trigger the air bag sensor. the contact believed that the air bags should have deployed because the front end was completely destroyed. the manufacture was not alerted of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 1,000. the vin was not available.
June 29th, 2008, my wife was driving our 2007 chevrolet cobalt on a single 2-lane country road when she had to avoid a head-on collision with an on-coming pickup. she went into the ditch and hit a tree and fencepost at approx. 45 mph. eventhough the front end bumper was destroyed from the contact with the tree and post (both head-on directly), the airbags in the car failed to deploy. neither gm or my insurance company (since the vehicle is totaled) is interested in investigating further. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet cobalt. while driving approximately 50 mph, the contact struck a deer head on and the air bags failed to deploy. the mechanic stated that the air bags did not deploy because of the way the vehicle struck the deer. six months later, he struck another deer head on and the air bags failed to deploy again. the vehicle is currently in the shop for repairs. the contact believes that the air bags should have deployed no matter how the deer was struck. the current mileage was 19,000 and failure mileage was 7,000.
While driving e. on highway 60 in az, i noticed my steering wheel sticking once in a while. after driving thru devel's canyon the steering kept pulling to the right a little then it would stop pulling, over and over. when i was on flat road again the steering pulled real sharp to the right and would not turn left, after a second of this the steering finally freed itself again but making the steering very touchy, when this happened the car started sweerving side to side and ended up hitting the guard rail on the east bound side of the highway. i was going aprox. 52 mph in a 55 mph area. when i hit the guard rail the car hit almost head on and the air bags never went off.
I had a front impact collision with my new 2007 chevy cobalt. i was traveling 40 to 45 mph when the impact occured. my airbags failed to deploy. by the grace of god i walked away from the accident unharmed but my car was totaled. i contacted gm and they had an engineer inspect my car and determined the airbag should have gone off but since the car was a total loss and no one was hurt they will not do anything about it.
