We have classified the 129 complaints from 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt about AIR BAGS into the following categories.
Airbag service required light started appearing on dashboard approx 1 month ago once hitting close to 100,000 miles. it occurred at a random time while in motion, during normal driving conditions. vehicle has not been in any accidents or damage. light of airbag service started appearing randomly. at first it would turn on and off; now it constantly appears. i have taken it to used car dealer that i bought car from; they instructed me to call general motors because it appears as a safety issue after they investigated it. general motors told me it was not a recall, yet they were aware it is a service issue multiple people with the same year, make and model have dealt with. they instructed me to take it to nearest chevy dealer to have it services at a unreasonable cost. called local chevy dealer they wanted diagnosing payment plus payment to service the vehicle. i did not take vehicle to chevy because the pricing is outrageous, this issue has occurred with multiple vehicles or the same year, make and model. it is obviously a safety issue that gm should be responsible for. others have written online about paying for the service and it occurring again or even accidents occurring with airbag malfunctions.
Airbag light on,turns lights not working
The airbag warning light comes on randomly. while lit the airbags will not function. it has been looked at by a chevrolet dealer at least twice (12/2010 and 2/2011). both of those times the error code was b0020. it has been taken to a certified mechanic on 8/2015 and codes b1370, b0081, and b0020 showed. the problem was always fixed, temporarily, by applying connector grease to the wire connections. on 9/2017, the mechanic replaced the passenger seatbelt retractor. this also fixed the problem temporarily. by paying close attention to when the warning light comes on we have determined that the sensor is affected by the interior temperature of the car. when the temperature is above approximately 65f the airbag warning light comes on and renders the safety of the airbags useless! i have yet to find any permanent fix for the issue. however there are numerous complaints by others online. it seems unacceptable to me that a vital piece of safety equipment is malfunctioning yet the manufacturer/dealer will not take any steps to fix it.
Markeshia was driving in her neighborhood when she swerved into a pole while trying to avoid hitting a stray dog. her airbag deployed and her 10 year old daughters did not. immediately after accident she went in ambulance to tx. children's hospital where her daughter was rushed to trauma unit for immediate surgery. her daughter has a permanent brain injury.

I already know about the airbag and ignition recalls but, now, i have a fuel leak with fuel dripping down the lines from the tank on to the ground at a position on the drivers side under the rear passenger door and seat.

Takata recall: my air bag sign probably in the beginning of january had appeared, and obviously they have not been working. i had gotten into an accident on january 31st and they did not deploy. i am not positive if this is a part of the recall situation, but it happened out of no where, i just turned my car on one day and it stopped working. also in the accident my car was sitting at a red light and hit between the range of 35-40 mph

I believe the problem im having with my vehicle may perhaps be due to a defective issue. .my car has not been involved in an accident and i now have an my (service air bag) light always on. i no longer feel sage in this car i also had another issue with ti today with my power steering i recently had my car recently serviced and was not told anything when serviced. please investigate this issue and notify me as soon as this has been investigated.
Went over pothole at 15 miles an hour and both air bags inflated. one passenger went to hospital with injuries. also the windshield was broken from impact of air bags
The airbag maintenance light came on in the car, took car to gm dealer and stated that there was broken wire in the passenger side seatbelt retractor. dealer had to replace retractor and clear code. having hard time understanding how this is not safety related and why i am having to pay out of pocket to fix this. this part does not hardly move and should be designed to move so many revolutions. my opinion this is a flaw in the design and should be covered by gm. *tr

Since december 2014, my car started flashing the airbag light. the dealer says that airbag is coiled and to replace is $1,600.00. i can't afford that. the airbag light is now on all the time (no more flashing). i looked up online and there were a lot of complaint on chevrolet cars and airbag problems. now the recall for it is out but my car is not on the list. i do believe this is a recall problem and i would like some help to know to get my airbag problem fixed through the recall. i will really appreciate your help. thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Several months ago got notice that ignition lock was "recalled" by gm. shortly after that i noted the "service air bag" light was on periodically. stopped at gm dealer and was advised that parts would not be available until oct 2014. got another notice that it was time to get recall fixed. i took my vehicle in for replacement of ignition lock, which was done on 12/10/2014, got home and saw "service air bag" light was on. called dealer and was advised that "air bag" light was not part of the recall. have another appointment for 17th to get it checked. recall 14v047000 is "airbag and electrical" but it doesn't cover airbag ??? i had trouble with this dealer years ago but he is the closest (within 30 miles) to me so i use him. *tr

I had my ignition switch replaced by a gm dealer, now the airbag light is on. i noticed on the ignition recall it mentioned the airbag. so i'm wondering if this airbag light is on due to something with the switch replacement. *tr
My speakers on the front of the car go on and off as well as my inside turn signals. now it has progressed to the check air bag indicator going on and off while starting and during driving. i have informed the dealership and was told it was several electrical problems. the airbag portion of it scares me as i am only 5 ft tall and sit close to the wheel. i don't want to fork over more money than the car is worth especially since i know there are several complaints for the same problem. why not have a recall on at least the airbag part of the problem. *tr

The car had the fuel module and tank replaced in october 2012 they said it was not a recall and covered it under my powertrain 3 days before it went out. i just got the car back from the ignition recall and the air bag on passenger doesn't work they claim its something different, the gas is draining from the car again, it smells like gas. i am assuming that the fuel line again has broke, and the fuel module and tank will be soon behind it. last time they told me the car had the potential to blow up.the door electrical switches go on and off by themselves.the turn signals work when they want to too. *js
The chevy cobalt recall does not fix the kill switch problem. i just got this car back today. i attached a small wallet that holds only my license and bank card in it and the air bag light still goes on and off. hence this is exactly what it did before it was replaced. i didn't have this problem with the same wallet attached in my chevy rental car. this car is not corrected. it is still a death trap. if you only leave the key in the ignition the air bag light stays off exactly what they said to do before it was changed. *tr
