I bought a car from vw south orlando 7 month ago and since than i had a lot of issue with the car engine light was going on and off i been their like 5 times now and just pissing me off i want a replacement car
After fueling up at a gas station the 2018 tiguan would not start. it was dead. stationary at the fuel pump. warning lights came on the dash to indicate steering column failure. no symptoms, the car would not try to start or begin to start. just errors on dash. car is only 1 year old with less than 10k miles on it. dealer asked technician to jump car. no change. car had to be towed to dealer. dealer indicated a new steering column needed to be ordered and installed and that it was very odd to have failed. quick research shows this happens all the time on vws. how can a part like this fail in less than 10k miles?
I purchased the car brand new iat the end of 2018. at the end of 2019 the car now needs new brakes and has less than 19,000 miles. the car shakes when you break. the dealership stated usually brakes and rotors last 30,000 and cited "common causes" for needing new breaks. the dealership stated they would cover labor at good will to replace brakes and rotors and then came back that would cover 60% and provided me 3 different amounts for a total. additionally, in december 2019, the check engine light came on after driving through a dangerous intersection turning left the car started to stutter and was shaking, after they reviewed it, they stated that the car had "misfired" and not all 4 engines started at the same time, only 3 of the engines did. i am requesting that the car be reviewed for compliance and safety regarding the brakes and engine. additionally, i am requesting that volkswagen cover the cost and labor of replacing brakes and rotors.
The car hesitates one to two seconds from a stop when the accelerator pedal is depressed quickly halfway or more as you would do to merge quickly into fast moving traffic. the problem can also be duplicated when moving slowly around 5 mph. this problem has existed since the beginning but now seems to be getting worse. i consider this a safety issue since the car does not respond as expected/required under all conditions.
The car gets filled with strong odor of gasoline inside the cabin and i was loosing gas at a rapid rate in addition the car was loosing speed. there is also the problem with the sto-start system, once the car was at a stop, the car would not turn over and start again. it would get stucktrying to turn on and at the same time i was loosing gasoline. i had to remove all passengers from the vehicle including my one month grand son due to the strong odor of gasoline. this incidents occured several times during the weekend of november 1 through november 4th when i dropped off the vehicle at the dealership.
Severe hesitation when trying to accelerate, most noticeable from a full or near stop. pulling out quickly into moving traffic often results in moments of no acceleration at all. it can be frightening and potentially dangerous. a quick google search for "tiguan hesitation" brings up many complaints about this issue. dealer is aware but says there is nothing that can be do as it is the nature of the transmission and engine. vw america says thank you for the feedback and they will "keep an eye out for trends and report as needed." i believe that if not corrected this issue will result serious accidents and injuries. the date below is the last time i experienced the issue but has happened many times since leasing the car this past january 2019.
Driving at 42-45 mph on a 0% slope. car initially maintaining about 1,300 rpm. without changing speed, pressure on the accelerator, or incline of the road, transmission would shift down by 3-4 gears resulting in a jump in the rpm up to about 3,200. vehicle would cycle through the down shifting and the jump in rpm, and then shifting back up to lower the rpm back to normal. within 1.2 miles, car cycled through this three times, and that was what i could capture on video! it continued for 15-20 miles before i could get it to a volkswagen dealership. finally, the engine temperature gauge shot up and sat about maximum value for about 3 seconds and then fell back down to dead center (normal operating temp). at that point, i was already on my way to vw to drop it off. about 1 mile from the dealership, i got the "check coolant! see owner's manual." alert on my dash even though the temp gauge was normal at that time. finally got to vw and was told the transmission thing was normal ("they like to hunt a lot"). i don't believe that for a second. after 18,000 miles, i would not all of the sudden realize the transmission doing that. shifting by one or two gears is probably normal for a dsg, and i'm sure that has been happening all along - but it is so small that i don't notice the change. when a car shift down by 4 gears within 1-2 seconds and the car lunges forward as the rpm shoot up to maintain the speed, that is something that isn't normal. currently vehicle is still in the shop. will likely need a new water pump, coolant reservoir, wire harness (due to coolant migration). they also think there may be transmission fluid inside the coolant reservoir, but are still trying to tell me that the shifting problem is "normal"... i'm tired of dealing with volkswagen and their shifty service department and procedures and can't wait to get rid of this car.
It takes a scary amount of time for the car to speed up when accelerating. the rpm module shows the acceleration but the vehicle doesn't actually speed up to match it. this is a safety issue especially when merging on to the freeway. an accident is bound to happen as i am not able to control the speed of the on coming cars and am unable to get my car up to speed to match the others. also, the car randomly shuts down when stopped, a message saying please start engine manually pops up. this is also a safety concern and is bound to cause an accident as it happens a few times a month. a few months ago my car turned off when i stopped at the red light, a car was exiting the freeway as the light had turned green so they kept their high speed, i quickly turned my hazard lights on and the car had to swerve to the right lane to avoid rear ending me.
I was driving on interstate 95 north in the fast lane ( at 70 mph), when the "engine exceeds 4000 rpm" warning came on the dash board/system read out and the car lost power and started decelerating (to 40 mph). i continued to push the gas pedal but the car came to a complete stop. i put on my flashers and restarted the car and coasted to the shoulder. i put the park, stopped the car and waited and restarted the car. we entered the highway again and as i tried to accelerate, the car hesitated and decelerated again. this time i moved over to the right shoulder , stopped and got out of the car. my husband's friend was in the car with me and my husband was following behind us. i called my insurance company and explained to them what was happeing with the car and they came and towed the car to ourisman laurel voklswagon. i left a note and a key in the drop off service bow and now 24 hours later i have not received a call from any service personnel. it seems from reviewing other complaints, that several people (more than 20) have had the same issue.
Stop/start function on new tiguan is behaving erratically. on a couple of occasions, when the foot brake is applied the car stops, but will not start again when foot is lifted off the brake. brake goes hard and will not depress. engine has to be switched off and on again for car to move. most recent occasion happened while turning into traffic, needed to back up and could not. thankfully oncoming traffic was just barely able to swerve around me.
At 2982 miles engine light came on start/stop error when car was moving there was rpm drop and rough engine.. dealer diagnosed misfire cylinder #2 , poured additive in fuel, told me car was road tested invoice shows same mileage in and out. at approx. 7400 miles the same identical thing happened when i was driving. the car was towed to dealer may 13, 2019. dealer informed me may 15, 2019 there was misfire cylinder # 2 and cylinder #4. car is still at dealer as of today may 2019. these miss fires are a driving hazard, they cause rpm to drop, can cause engine shut down loosing power steering and power brakes. misfires very common on vw / audi 2.0 tsi engines. vw / audi stalling customer with fixes that don't work. please investigate.
Car engine cuts out for a few seconds then accelerates after coming to a complete stop
My wife called me panicked because her 2018 vw tiguan sel, with 8000 miles, cut out on her while slowly pulling into a busy intersection. she described the problem as if the car lost complete power for a few seconds, even though she did not have her foot on the break at the time, and the car was not able to accelerate. my wife quickly put the car into reverse, where it responded well moving backwards, and threw on her hazards. the vehicle is less than 1 year old and she is deathly scared of driving it now. the vehicle is a hazard! when looking online for similar power train issues, many other customers are reporting a similar experience.
When accelerating. it feels like the motor is vibrating too much like it's going to rip itself out. the car has only 3k miles. it's been addressed to volkswagen! motor mounts are ok and transmission mount is good as told by dealer. this occurs every time the car is accelerating from a standstill
On multiple occasions, subject vehicle displayed check engine light and epc light at random intervals, causing car to unexpectedly be limited to 4,000 rpm and unable to accelerate past 40mph. as a result, this put driver in extremely unsafe situations and endangered safety of passengers and fellow drivers, particularly on highway. first encountered at 34,000 miles on odometer. persisted through 41,000 miles. seconds before error is encountered, vehicle would run rough and undergo rough shifts. in addition, vehicle also suffered with sluggish acceleration from stop. vehicle taken to service center multiple occasions. on first encounter, technician instructed simply to reset vehicle. when taken second time, code p0203 injector short circuit cyl 3 was diagnosed and engine harness replaced. however, issue continued. when taken third time, injector harness replaced.
My vehicle displayed a sign stating that their was low coolant. i took it to the dealer around 14,000 miles and the pcm has been destroyed. the engine hasn't been getting coolant for some time. once that was replaced my car stopped accelerating properly and rogers really roughly mainly through gears 1-3. it's really dangerous if i need to accurate quickly to merge the response time is off and i have had several near misses. i flagged this with vw and they are refusing to acknowledge that their is an issue. i would like to get this resolved before myself or others are injured.
Vehicle has a significant hesitation when starting from a stopped position. when pulling into traffic you step on the gas and initially the vehicle does not move which causes you to press further on the accelerator pedal. eventually vehicle suddenly jerks violently forward. dealership advises that since there are no trouble codes there is nothing wrong. has been an issue since new.
This car is dangerous! i had vehicle for 4 months and have only driven 411 miles car has started to hesitate when pulling out into traffic, it almost feels like it shuts off for a solid 4 seconds before it decides to accelerate. gas mileage reads 100mpg, we all know that's not possible... loud wind noises at 50 mph and a pop noise coming from drivers side door every bump in the road at 50 mph . the start stop option turns on and off when the road is rough or slightly bumpy!
Car makes noise that is audible within the car and is particularly loud by the rear passenger side tire.
Everytime i drive when engine is cold, it feels like engine is going to die. i can feel small jerking, like car is running out of fuel. fuel tank is full. i read many complains and forms, vw doesn't care. i contacted them via twitter, no response yet.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 volkswagen tiguan. while driving 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning, the vehicle was able to coast over to the side of the road and the engine was turned off. when the vehicle was restarted, the engine started to vibrate. the vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. the contact called momentum volkswagen of clear lake at (844) 894-5461 (located at 15100 gulf fwy, houston, tx 77034) and was informed to schedule an appointment. the dealer diagnosed that there was moisture in the ignition line and there was a signal failure. the vehicle was not repaired. while driving home from the dealer, a loud abnormal noise occurred from the engine and the check engine and oil warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not taken back to the dealer. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. the approximate failure mileage was 4,100.
The vehicle hesitates when accelerating from a stop or occasingly surges under heavier throttle pressure. this is very dangerous and the dealers are telling us this is 'normal' behavior. i see that many drivers have reported this issue. does someone have to get injured before we get taken seriously? volkswagen needs to fix the problem with the engine now.
Today, the car stalled while i was station/stopped at the red light and got dragged by the truck which almost ran over my car. my car's sensor switched to emergency mode and would not let me drive. i wanted to drive my car away when i saw the danger. however, l could not and almost got killed and ran over by the 18 wheels truck.
The tiguan has been having issues with hesitation while shifting between 1st and 2nd gear. you can feel an immediate loss of power, loss of boost and a bucking feeling while it shifting. i've also driven another tiguan of the same year and the issue was present on that specific model too. this issue is not only an annoyance but also a safety issue while merging or trying to accelerate from a stop.
The vehicle has severe acceleration problem, with uneven and unpredictable acceleration when starting the vehicle from a stop. the problem developed after the vehicle was 2 weeks old. the vehicle was taken into the dealership after the check engine light turned on. the dealership stated it was an issue in the secondary air system, but they were not sure what and could not fix it at that time. the check engine light then turned off. the vehicle was taken in to two subsequent dealerships with the same issue, but the dealership stated the car was reporting no problem, and the check engine light was not turning on. a third dealership found a faulty valve in the secondary air system, despite the car reporting no issues and the check engine light failing to be lit. despite the replacement of the part, the vehicle still has unpredictable and unacceptable acceleration, which poses a severe safety risk when pulling out into traffic. when i expect the vehicle to accelerate, it does so at an extremely tepid pace, causing traffic to need to slow rapidly behind the vehicle. other time it begins to accelerate normally, and then stalls in acceleration. this again poses a safety risk to the driver and surrounding traffic.
08/24/2018- epc light came on shortly after i began my morning commute while driving approx 45mph on city street. my car slowed and would not allow acceleration, as a second warning light came on stating 'engine speed max 3000rpm'. i was able to drive back a short distance at a reduced speed with limited acceleration. had car towed for the earliest available appointment on 08/27/2018 at a local vw service center. told timing chain needed to be replaced following a thorough diagnostic and tsb. 09/21/2018- told vw engineer inspected the vehicle after the timing chain fix and the ecp light came back on, so it was determined a full engine replacement was needed. also same day, vw customer care representative informed me that my prior request for a vehicle replacement/ repurchase was denied, but would be re-submitted with the new information tegarding the engine. 09/25/2018- vw customer care rep notified me that a new engine was ordered and was estimated to arrive at vw service within 10-12 business days. 09/26/2018- i notified vw customer care rep that i want to be contacted as soon as a decision for the re-submitted replacement/repurchase request is made, as i am not comfortable driving this vehicle due to safety concerns (failure to accelerate) and reliability concerns after engine failure at 5 mo./ 4575 miles.
When starting vehicle (either cold or warm), vehicle has a several seconds hesitation when pushing down accelerator. vehicle does not move, hesitates then lurches forward as if the vehicle is not getting sufficient power to move. vehicle has been to the volkswagen dealer several times and they have been unable to repair. this is dangerous when you are entering a highway or crossing a multi lane road and have to move quickly and the vehicle does not respond.
Tiguan 2018 hesitates to accelerate with a lapse of a few (3 or 4) second before the car finally accelerates after a full stop or from slow speeds. this issue tends to be constant and can be extremely dangerous as it happens when trying to pull from a busy intersection or from any other situation where you need to move quick , its a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt if vw doesn't come up with a resolution. im now on my second service apointment within a month. seems to be a known issue with this model very frustrating!!!!!
The tiguan experiences severe and dangerous acceleration hesitation when accelerating from a stop or from very slow speeds. there is a significant delay between the accelerator being depressed and the car actually accelerating, which causes an extremely dangerous situation when attempting to merge with other traffic or enter a roadway from a side street. this issue is very consistent, and occurs in all operating conditions (engine warmed, engine cold, automatic gear selection or manual gear selection, in 'sport' mode and in regular driving mode). the issue is present in all driving situations where acceleration from a stationary or slow speed is required.
This vehicle has a drive ability problem. the car has a major hesitation and is very dangerous when pulling onto the highway. the car almost cuts out but doesn't stall and find it very dangerous. the dealer told me that nothing is wrong with it. also, there was a recall on my ambient lighting on my sunroof. there could be a leak or humidity could affect the wiring and could cause a fire. there fix is to disconnect it. i have no sunroof lighting. i should get a refund for something they took away.
Vehicles hesitates to start from a slow or dead stop. will not accelerate as it should. noticeable lag when shifting and accelerating. engine misfiring at only 3000 miles. very dangerous when turning into traffic or merging on to highways. vehicle gives a false sense of accelerating then stops. this happens reliably over and over.
Guess i'm having the same issue a lot of others are having. sitting at a red light and hit the gas and nothing happens. smells like gas inside the cabin. it's been in service at the dealership for 15 days and they have no idea what the problem is and no eta on the fix. i purchased the car in december 2017.
Engine oil will leak from intake camshaft adjustment valve. leak was noticed first when parked. after first repair by dealer (11 july 2018), it started to leak again only after five days from repair. this represents a safety issue that may cause a fire or eventually engine to fail. can provide repair report from dealer (first repair) and second once it is finalized. thank you.
On 7/13/2018 we are on a family trip when we stop the vehicle to take some pictures the car on parking, start to make high and low aceleration with vibrations and then a light with epc show on dashboard. i turn off the car for a minute and then turn on, the epc light disappear, but the vibrations continued. the next day (7/14/2018) we are on the road and the vehicule starts the vibrations , then show the checkengine picture on the dashboard, rapidly 2 errors appeared on the screen 'error: start-stop' and 'engine on due to system error'. we call vw center and we have a inspeccion of the vehicle this week. also with less of 4,000mi we saw that the front brake discs have problems. they show a big mark with ditch. there's a problem with the pads or with the stop system
Engine on this vehicle is very slow to respond. when i give gas, it struggles to start moving, feels like it is carrying 10k lbs of load behind. i push gas peddle to the floor at a signal light to get away from traffic. car won't respond for about 1 or 2 seconds, then starts to move, but very slow, crawling, then starts to speed up. turbo lag is very bad. i don't feel safe. this appears to be a recurring issue that is being reported from customers. to be frank, the size of the vehicle (larger than other models) does not seem to match the engine size. nhtsa needs to investigate for the safety of other drivers, particularly those who share the same fears.
Engine on this vehicle is very slow to respond. when i give gas, it struggles to start moving, feels like it is carrying 10k lbs of load behind. there are only two passengers, not pulling anything. push gas peddle to the floor at a signal light to get away from traffic. car won't response for about 1 second, then starts to move, but very slow, crawling, then starts to speed up. turbo lag is very bad. need to update software to help eliminate this. audi uses the same engine, but response is so much better.
There is weird turbo/engine sound coming from engine compartment. when engine is cold, cold start, you hear grinding type of noise. it is very loud. once engine is driven for about 20 minutes, noise is reduced, but still there. the transmission shift has clicking noise. you do not hear it when seating inside the vehicle, but you can hear it when outside and someone else is shifting. the noise is when car goes from either drive to neutral, or reverse to neutral. it's a clicking noise, like chime and metal banging mixed together.
My everyday experience with this vehicle includes - hesitation when accelerating quickly, jerking forcefully when accelerating slowly, random jerking while driving. it seems as though, even as an automatic car, i can feel every gear change. especially on the freeway, i feel extremely unsafe when i attempt a lane change. when i put my foot on the gas to quickly speed up, my vehicle hesitates and does not match what i am doing on the pedal. the hesitation is especially dangerous for other vehicles on the road. i am extremely anxious when driving my vehicle because i do not feel in control. i worry that, at any point, it will hesitate or jerk forcefully, and cause harm to me, my passengers, and/or those in other vehicles around me. please note that this is an ongoing problem. this was not a one-time occurrence. this does not just occur when driving at certain speeds. the hesitation and jerking occur daily.
Vehicle engages automatic braking system without any prompting...no other vehicle anywhere in sight. it has happened on a rural two lane road, with a farm on one side and woods on the other and has also happened on a 4 lane road within city limits, but no vehicle in front of me, but one to the rear passenger side in the lane heading in the same direction. every time this happens it brings the vehicle to a complete stop, regardless of speed. i have experienced whiplash on several occasions, as well as my husband and my 7 year old daughter. the amount of force is so violent that i would imagine it is equivalent to being hit by another vehicle. i had just picked up take-out once when this had happened, and the salsa in the takeout bag flew off of the back seat and the force caused the lid to come off and salsa was all over the 2nd row, front row, as well as myself and windshield to put into perspective how forceful this is. i fear the day that it engages and a car is behind me, because it will kill someone. we only drive this car now only if it is absolutely necessary and we can't make other arrangements.
While driving in a 50mph road during rush hour traffic, the epc light came on and the vehicle lost power. i didn't want to pull over onto a narrow bike lane. the vehicle could not keep up with traffic; other drivers were forced to go around me. at the next stop light, i restarted the car. the epc light did not come back on, and the vehicle behaved normally again. i called the dealership, and they told me that if it happens again, that i should bring it in. i got the impression that this is a normal reboot process for a volkswagen, like having to reboot a windows pc if something goes wrong. i think the problem needs to be addressed before it happens again. fortunately, i was driving the car, but after i told my wife what happened, she doesn't want to drive my car.
2018 tiguan was purchased new in april - mid may car would not start, all warning lights went on. car eventually turned on. a few days later while driving (on the road), car stopped completely, all warning lights went on. had to be towed to closest vw where it would remain for over a month. first diagnosed as unknown electrical prob - needed to be analyzed by vw engineer who believed it to be the battery. new battery did not remedy issue - new alternator was ordered, again did not remedy the issue. finally was identified as a issuing with the wiring being stripped. feel completely unsafe in my new car - has also been effected by two recalls since (in addition to the one month in the vw dealership from non recall issue) - current sunroof recall has no fix only a temporary solution to disconnect the wiring - i feel completely unsafe in the car and will not drive the vehicle. car should be bought back by vw - open recalls with no fix leave the car worthless. what else will go wrong with the 2018 tiguan - will not purchase another vw in the future.
This car has a new "feature" called auto start/stop which, when is enabled by default. if not disabled, this feature will turn off the car when it's at a standstill and consuming little power, then turn back on when you hit the gas. meant as a fuel consumption mechanism, this is very dangerous. a few times now, i forgot to disable it, and when perched in the median between opposite lanes, i had to accelerate rapidly and almost got slammed into because the car had to first start, then accelerate. i lost 2-3 seconds of reaction/acceleration time. when test driving the car, the salesman told me it was a fuel consumption feature, then turned it off for the test drive. if i had seen this in action, i never would have purchased the car. vw will not disable it permanently.
When the auto start/stop feature is disabled by toggling the button on the center console, the car drives very rough, especially at slow speeds. it feels like the transmission is having trouble shifting gears.
There is all this hesitation when accelerating almost like a bucking or the engine is not getting enough gas/oxygen mix. then you can press the gas pedal a quarter of the way down and the engine hesitates then throws the car into high gear and takes off. i have driven a lot of cars the past week even a vw touareg that did not act like this car does with the accelerator. it is like the accelerator is not sending the correct single to the engine or the engine's computer is not interrupting it correctly from the accelerator. the computer in the car can be bad and give a false positive. this vehicle has been to 4 dealerships and field engineers have stated that there is a problem but vw refuses to buy back the vehicle. there have been several requests but they keep getting denied and say there is no fix for the vehicle and i feel it is unsafe to drive. i have almost got into 3 accidents because the accelerator would not react and the car stalled out.
The safety alert that stops your car in case of a collision stops my car with none or thing in front or on the side of it. my backup camera stays on consistently when driving forward. the electronic middle console constantly freezes up and won't allow me to do anything or goes completely black. this has happened multiple times including the most recent in this complaint. the engine also jerks forward and is very dangerous trying to pull out onto a busy street. when i mentioned this to the dealership they said the car need to learn how i drive. it has 6600 miles on it?
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 volkswagen tiguan. after the vehicle was parked in the garage, the contact noticed an abnormal, burning odor. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 12,600.
Purchased a 2018 vw tiguan sel in febuary 2018. brought to dealer twice (so far) and bringing it backi tomorrow. has stayed in shop for 5 weeks since purchase. serious hesitation when accerlating. my wife refuses to drive the vehicle in fear of her life !! (and so am i) these cars must be stopped being sold...will not be long before someone is killed....
Cars response to driver accelerator inputs is hesitant and erratic. car motion is unpredictably when accelerating from stand still. the performance is not predictable and very without apparent external environmental factors. unpredictable performance endangers car occupants while entering traffic. the behavior has been determined by dealer as normal against other 2018 models but is different against 2019. vw us has not returned inquiry requests.
