Tl* the contact owned a 2007 vw passat sedan. the contact was driving approximately 25 mph, when he heard an abnormal noise and seen flames coming from the engine compartment. the contact stated immediatley stopped the vehicel and attempted to open the hood but was unable due to the flames. the contact stated he burnt his hands. the contact stated no warning lights were illuminated. the fire department was called and extinguished the fire. the contact was unsure if a fire department report was filed. the approximate failure mileage was 104,000.
Since i bought the car i've always had issues with the oil consumption. i was told it was 'normal' to loose up to 8 courts of oil in-between my oil changes. the dealership told me this!! the car has been very well taken care of, i get oil changes every couple thousand miles instead of every 10,000 like vw recommends. if i did this my engine would quiet literally blow up. i've been told repeatedly by multiple foreign repair shops (non vw dealership) that this is a common issue with this motor but for whatever reason the 2013 cc models were not recalled. by the sounds of it's a repair that vw refuses to acknowledge or fix. i'm upside down on the loan & have been told i basically need a whole new engine. now, every time i refuel i have to add a quart of oil otherwise my check engine light comes on or i receive a 'check oil pressure. engine off' message. i might be a female but i'm not that stupid to know that this isn't normal! this is a constant issue!
I was driving on flat paved road at speed of 25-30 mph when suddenly the rpm surged from 1 to 4, engine revved, made loud high pitch whine for several mins. i was not accelerating, only following another vehicle ahead. i was going to pull off the road and turn off the ignition, when this stopped & continued driving normally and noted the rpm was back to near 1. no panel or engine lights came on.
Drove car without problems. came back an hour later and it started, but engine was shaking. moved it across parking lot and shut engine off. next time i tried to turn it on, would not start. took it to mechanic, said that timing chain broke and ruined the rest of the engine. did research and found this to be a common issue with vw engines. faulty timing chains are used which cause catastrophic engine failure leaving driver at risk if this happens when driving. even when not driving, the possibility of such a common occurrence from one of their products failing and ruining the rest of the car is unfair to consumers and volkswagen should be held accountable beyond warranty liabilities for any of their vehicles that this happens to. they should not be allowed to build faulty engines and leave consumers to foot the bill for their shoddy designs and workmanship.
Heater not heating as should. heater core seems to plugged, similar to tsb 80-15-04 on earlier models. vw does not have a tsb or campaign to address. this could impact visibility in the winter time.
While driving at highway speed the vehicle suffered a sudden and catastrophic failure of the high pressure fuel pump. the vehicle has only 43k on it and was just purchased after receiving the tdi update 3k miles ago. the fuel pump failure occurred around 60-70 mph on the highway and lead to the vehicle losing all power and barely making it to the shoulder of the road. i have now learned that this failure has completely destroyed my fuel system and is not covered by vw even thoughthey are using the same part that they are covering for the 2010-2013 model years they offered an extended warranty on. not only is this incredibly unsafe, as a consumer this type of unpredictable and common failure is unacceptable.
Transmission leaking major car randomly shut off while in drive while stopped in traffic rough idling. can cause an accident if there's busy traffic on major side street and you not paying attention
Timing chain decided to give up as i was driving on a major highway. now i'm stuck having to potentially replace the engine, a 5k bill. just purchased the car last year and still making payment on it. never had any indication or illumination on the dashboard of warning for the engine failure
This vehicle has experienced cooling system issues since 49000 miles. the car now has 122,500 miles. the heater core has been replaced 5 times, 2 radiators, egr cooler, intercooler, oil cooler, transmission cooler. these are all impacted with some sort of sludge. vw had issued an extended warranty on the heater core addressed by tsb 80-15-04. after numerous conversation with vw and the dealer service department the parts other then the heater core that is covered under the tsb have been replaced at no cost to me except the inconvenience of the time involved to resolve these issues. vw is claiming that these vehicles do not have an issue other than what the tsb addresses. i have since traded the car in on a 2015 passat tdi that now appears to be experiencing the same issues. there isn't a tsb or extended warranty for the cooling system/heater on this model. i believe this to be a safety issue, not having the proper heating system could impair visibility in the winter.
Vehicle engine light comes and goes way. the vehicle jerks/shakes when waiting the red signals and looses power and had to stop the vehicle and start the vehicle.i have done all the oil according to the recommended milage by the dealer. and also it looses power when taking turns, in that case need to turn off the vehicle and start again. this happens when vehicle waits the red signal and move/shakes heavily and had to put the vehicle in park and stop it. though vehicle is 5 year and ran barely 55k and started showing symptoms as mentioned as above.i strongly believe this something to do with the manufacturing. below is the report from the dealer. ------------------- cam faults, misfires. scanned vehicle and found cam fault p034100, all cylinder misfires faults. traced fault to timing chain tensioner failure. ------------------------ i have also attached the invoice and diagnoses results about the issue. and also found in internet related to the same issue that they have seen other vw vehicles. the issue seems to be similar, however vw/vw dealer seems not accepting ...
