The doors (2014 passat) do not work properly in cold temperatures. the car doors, especially the driver's side fail to unlock/or close. the driver's door will at times open with the actual key and at other times will not. sometimes the door will unlock but the lock freezes in position preventing the car door from closing shut. a visit to a vw service department did not solve this problem. replaced battery in key but problem persists.
Drivers side door wont unlatch. due to a bad design, the drivers side door will not open when that temperature is below freezing. vw has acknowledged this as a problem, but will not recall. this is a safety issue since the driver cannot exit the vehicle in an emergency. i called them but their stand is that the car is out of warranty so too bad. the condition only exists when the temperature is below freezing. the problem is well know based on social media posts. i think vw should take some responsibility for the design flaw.
Takata recall there was a reckless driver who was not obeying the traffic rules. i was on the highway (nj turnpike 78 around bayonne). and then this guy was on the right entering to the highway, but he switched to the left lane without waiting for the solid line to become dotted line. and then right away, he cut in front of me, to again switch to the most left lane. i was almost going to hit him because of this reckless move. he didn't signal and wait for me (or someone else) to give him the way. he just cut in front me. i horned him and then he showed me his middle finger. it was about to be an accident if i hadn't hit the brakes right away. he entered the highway without obeying the rules and cut the road from all the way from right to the left lane. and he is rude and offensive. he has a black lincoln, with ny plate. plate number is t657065c. this happened in the morning around 8:46. it is a rush our, he increases the risk of accidents and puts people in danger. i hope he will be punished for this.
After driving my 2014 passat has a burning smell coming from the car. after having the upper timing chamber, transmission seals, and brake system replaced it is still smelling like something is burning. it smells like metal on metal, so i assumed it was the brakes, but even after having them changed at the dealership, there is still an unknown problem.

Took my car in because i had no horn, no air bags, and the steering wheel sounded 'funny'. i had a little over 39,000 when this all happened. i was told it was the clock spring. apparently there was a recall for this for the 2014 passats, but my vin number was not included. they can't tell me why. clearly, my car was included in the defective vehicles!! it is a very expensive part to replace.
I own a 2014 vw passat. all of the functions on my the steering wheel when dead and the airbag light came on. the vehicle was stationary when the issue was first discovered. i had just started the car. after bringing the car to a dealership to have it diagnosed, it was diagnosed as a faulty clock spring. the replacement cost is $637 and the closest dealer is 45 miles away. this is a safety hazard as the air bag, horn and other steering wheel features do not work. after researching i've come to realize there are thousands of vehicles effected by this and no recall.
Takata recall i have been receiving recall notices for my 2014 volkswagen passat for the past year year. i made an appointment with my volkswagen dealer in march of 2018, brought the car in so they could fix the recall. after taking the day off, and waiting for the car, i was told that the dealership did not have the correct part to fix it, and they could not complete the repair. i was told i would be contacted as soon as they received the part. last month, i contacted the dealership to inquire about the recall and was told they still did not have the part. i contacted volkswagen, they put me in touch with another dealer, i contacted that dealer. they also did not have the part. again i was told, we will contact you when we have the part. that was over a month ago. yesterday, i received another recall notice. how do get my recall fixed if the dealerships do not have the parts? do i have to wait until the car implodes? please help!
On may 31, 2018, i bought a volkswagen passat e.s. 2014 at inwood motors, inc. dos id # 447825, located at 153 sheridan blvd, inwood ny 11096. the vehicle was financed thru the lender new city funding, located at 146 s liberty dr. # 11b, stony point, ny 10980 for the amount of $8,000.00 dollars. after driving the vehicle over 40 miles per hours, it warned me of some mechanical problem thru the vehicle dashboard (yellow light ecp), front brake band worn, abnormal sound in front of vehicle when turning to right and to left. i immediately informed the person in charge of the dealership about this issues named kasi, he told me not to worry about, that i had 1 month guarantee that he would take care about it. i have left the vehicle several times at the dealership to make the repairs, but he never did it. the dealership work in conjunction with the mechanic shop tikal's auto repair, located at 153c sheridan blvd, inwood ny 11096, (516) 371-9582. the first time i left the vehicle was on june 13, 2018, and two days later, he notified me about the throttle body had problem, and it was necessary to order a new one to replace it. he told me to bring the car with me, he would call me when he had the part in his possession. after that, the vehicle continued with the same problem, never repair the brakes, nor the sound that i informed him about before. he told me to leave the vehicle again, after three days later, he said it was the solenoid, and it was necessary to order a new one to replace it the old one. he told me to bring the car with me, he would call me once his had the part in his possession. he called me on july 23, 2018, to bring the vehicle back to the dealership for repair, but until now, the car hasn't been repair it. it's been a month and two weeks that i notified the dealership about the problem, and the vehicle has not been repaired in it's entirely.
I was driving at approximately 30 mph and upon making a normal 80 degree right turn, i heard an audible pop in the steering column. after that, my airbag error light came on and i lost function in my horn and all steering wheel face controls (vehicle information navigation for the dashboard, volume and radio controls, bluetooth connectivity, etc.). after taking it to the dealership for repair and being told it was the clock spring, i began doing a little research on clock spring issues in volkswagen passats manufactured between 2010 and 2014 and that there was even a recall issued (although i never received any information on a recall from the manufacturer or the dealer). i have been told by my dealer that the repair will be covered under my extended warranty which i still have a deductible for. if this is a defective part then it should be volkswagen's responsibility, not the owner.
1.faulty clock spring resulting in no working horn or airbag 2. call stalls and won't start intermittently. dealer can't find issues but i think it's related to the faulty fuel pump recall
Car keeps randomly shutting off. loses power while idling and difficult to start. will lose power and cut off also while driving. check engine light will not stay on or come on.
Takata inflator replaced, 2 months later, while driving, and turning the corner at low speed, on a city street, into my subdivision at approximately 3-5 miles per hour, during a snow storm. the air bag light illuminates, hear crunching sound coming from steering column, immediately following, i have no horn or steering wheel control buttons. i now hear the same crunching sound coming from the steering column every time i turn the wheel. called dealer, advised it sounds like the clock switch which commonly fails and would cost around $900 to repair and was not under warranty, since i had 40k at the time of incident. i was advised that my air bag will not work without repair.
In august of 2017, my airbag light came on and my horn stopped working. there was also a clicking sound when turning the steering wheel. i took the vehicle to volkswagen and was informed that the clock spring had failed and needed to be replaced. after conducting some research, i found that other 2014 passats had been recalled for the same exact issue. my vin was not covered under the recall, and so i had to pay out of pocket for a new clock spring. i believe that the volkswagen recall was not broad enough to cover all vehicles affected. i reported this to the nhtsa at the time of the incident. however, about 6 months later, my vehicle began having the same issues. i was informed that the second clock spring had failed and needed to be replaced. because the part was new, volkswagen covered the repairs. i did not report this second occurrence of clock spring failure at the time. i am reporting the re-occurrence of the clock spring failure now, as i still hope the initial recall will be expanded and that i will get refunded from replacing it the first time. i hope this additional information can help with any ongoing investigations. i am providing documentation of both instances of clock spring failure in my 2014 passat.
My vehicle has a recall that when taken to volkswagen dealer has not been complete, also after programing the transmission my vehicle skips gears..
While driving the vehicle, i noticed the airbag light had come on. this sometimes happens when something heavy is on the seat. while needing to honk the horn on the freeway because someone was merging on to the lane where i was driving, the horn would not work. i later discovered the radio control on the steering wheel did not work either.

I drive a manual transmission. i have a 3 year old car with 30, 000 miles on it. the transmission jammed while the car was on the highway. it was due to a clutch that had broken into pieces and needed replacement. as a seasoned driver of manual cars, having driven ones with >100, 000 miles on them i have never faced such a dangerous and unexpected disintegration of the clutch in a car that has only 30, 000 miles on it. keeping in mind the kind of tampering and mishandling that it would need to break a clutch i complained to vw about this and they have done nothing to help. instead i am left with a heft bill to pay for the repairs, and, will probably need to buy a new car anyway as i would not endanger my life and that of my children driving a car with some serious engineering and/design issues that vw will not take responsibility for. the car also has electrical issues which i informed vw about; the parked car with the parking breaks on while turned off rolls off on the most gradual slopes and onto the street.
Heater not blowing hot air. this seems to be a major problem and vw even recognizes the issue. this should be a recall warranty item. here is a link provided to what i have found. https://f01.justanswer.com/kyleskrautcar/1c235176-e1b5-4388-847a-18433040b6b5_v801601.pdf
When outside temperature reaches below 30 degrees f the driver side lock freezes making it impossible to open this door. only means of entry and egress is through the passenger side door. investigation of this issue, led to countless websites and forums that address this same concern with driver side door lock freezing on volkswagen products. could lead to a potential safety issue existing the vehicle.
My leased vw passat 2014 check engine light was fixed by the dealer and was from a faulty exhaust flap. they want to charge me $485 for the flap; till 2012 the same part was given an extended warranty upto 120,000 miles because of multiple failures; so after the "fix", the same part (two model years later) has failed at 60,000 miles; vw cust support does not want to cover the repair on my car as they have not heard of this problem for the 2014 model. i think it is very unusual for an exhaust part to fail like this specially when it was supposed to have been "fixed". i am looking for some help in understanding why vw is not extending the warranty on the same part on the 2014 car when it was being covered till 2012 and supposedly resolved. vw can ignore individual complaints and i am sure that they would not share with me if there have been more complaints of the same nature from other customers. i am hoping that by writing to you, a record is created in case others like me lodge a similar complaint with your agency. thank you *tr
battery light came on. then headlights began to darken, power steering failed, abs brake light warning came on, airbag warning light came on, tpms light came on, low fuel light came on, engine became sluggish with little acceleration, speedometer went out and all lights in car went out. i could barely control, move or turn car. this happened after my 40k mile service 4 days ago. everything checked out fine at that time.
When i got passat se i did research and i thought it was a safe car. my first priority to lease a car was safety. on april 2016 i got a letter from vw that airbag on front is not safe and it may causes serious injury or death. it been almost 10 months and still there is no words on when it will be fix. what is going to happen if i get in accident and die? who would fulfill my place for my kids? i want to change the car or have vw buy my car back. i want to live with my family not die. this is a serious safety issue and needs to be fixed right away. i got in accidentand the front airbag did not open up
Takata recall - i want to be able to exchange out of my lease with vw credit into a newer 2016 vw that is not part of this recall. vw is denying my request and saying my lease is not negotiable. however, on page 2 under early termination liability", it clearly states i am able to get out of my lease if there is "irreparable damage" (this is the recall that has no remedy} my 2014 passat was hit on the 101 freeway at 55 mph and thankfully i was not injured. after two months in the repair shop, they almost totaled it, but did not. then, i noted the recall as well on the 2014 vw> i do not feel safe driving this car and do not want to continue to drive it knowing the next time i could die due to airbag inflating. please address this with vw credit and group of america.
Clock spring issues . vw stated to me that my car was not under recall for the clock spring .they fixed it in june 2016 . it broke again june 2017 and was replaced. it broke again in jan 2018 and was replaced 7 weeks later broke again. it is in need of being replaced now which will be the 5th clock spring to be put in th car. the airbag light is on horn does not work nor anything on the steering wheel due to the broken clock spring . i am the original owner and the car is paid for but i cant use it safely and can't sell it with these issues that vw will not fix. vw corporate offices investigated determined that it infact was broken and said they would pay for my last part? but that is out of the warranty. the first repair was at 44,000 miles . the issue is that vw never addressed why they keep breaking and replacing them does not correct the problem
Takata airbag there hasn't been 1 specific incident involving the airbags, but my car is on the list of those that should be recalled. volkswagen didn't notify me, i found out on my own!!!
On several occasions when i start my car it blows extremely hot air out the driver's side vents while the passenger side still follows the heater control settings. so even if i turn the temperature down so the ac kicks in it still is extremely hot on the driver's side. i tried turning off the control, restarting the car, and just about everything else and only after it sits a while does it work again. this makes for some very uncomfortable driving when it is warm outside. this happens about once a week and never when i can get it to the dealership for them to check.
Windshield cracks by itself
Driver's door latch froze/broke on 2/18/2015. cold morning in central nys. could not unlock or open driver's door from outside or inside latches. called my vw dealer and had car towed to them for repairs. i use my car for business and do substantial work in metro areas so i can not crawl in / out on passenger side at parking garages. my car has been at the local vw dealer since feb 18 as parts are back ordered. today i was told the part won't be available until 3/14. if the door lock/latch parts are in such demand to be back-ordered for a month, this tells me the that the problem is prolific. i'm considered outside of warranty as well and have been quoted $500.00 for repair. i guess that's bye-bye to my vw loyalty credit i was hoping to use for routine maintenance items like oil changes. in addition, i had to rent a car at a rate of $300/week so this little gem has gotten quite costly.
Heater core was plugged. vw did replace it under a tsb but friends of mine state their heater cores plugged again after having them replaced once. i was warm defrost on the drivers side and cold on the passenger side. wouldn't even defrost the windshield so i could see with frost on it.
In cold weather, the driver door would not open from outside or inside. all other doors worked properly. at initial service request, problem would not duplicate once car was warm. service manager said he'd seen this problem previously. after phone calls, emails, and diagnostic service appointment ,vw did replace the door latch assembly at no charge. retail replacement was quoted at $500. concern is of utmost importance because potential existed that i could not exit my car in an emergency.
My car has an open recall for the takata air bag situation. it' been open since february it's now august. as i understand it, the airbag apparatus is subject to corrosion in humid warm climates. i live in brevard county florida, on the coast subject to high humidity and heat. my neighbor has an acura which is also subject to the recall. since acura thinks more of it's clients they made arrangements for a rental car for them until the fix finally came in, in july. maybe if vw had to do the same they may expedite my repair so my wife and i aren't risking our lives every time we have to drive our vw. any help is welcomed.
Exploding sunroof while driving 55 mph in normal weather conditions; glass was pushed outward.
No heat from passenger hvac vents. vehicle defrost/visibility capability seriously compromised. heater core clogged, replaced under warranty.
