I have encountered complete loss of throttle response when pulling out into traffic on 8 to 10 occasions over the 6 months that i have owned the car. on one occasion the motor completely died but restarted on first attempt after waiting five minutes.
3 months after purchase car was stalling like it wanted to take off, but was dragging. i was told by dealer slight defect parts were replaced. recently, car stopped on me twice when i made a complete stop at the light. power remained on, but i had to restart the car. *tr
During the first month of ownership, i was driving down the highway at 55 mph and preparing to stop for stoplight, the car stalled at speed; i assumed that it was due to being unaccustomed to the gearing. i have also had several instances in which after the car had been sitting in the parking lot during work, i pulled out and the car stumbled, but did not stall. however, i did need to engage the clutch several times. also, after the same circumstances, i pulled out successfully and felt the car lose power suddenly, as if there was not enough gas/air to keep going. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta. the contact stated that the vehicle would sporadically stall without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they were not able to duplicate or diagnose the failure. the failure mileage was 20,746 and the current mileage was 32,978.
Multiple incidents that appear to be the same problem/defect. 1. the car sometimes will not start for several minutes, and once it does finally start, has a very rough idle and stalls. after several tries, it finally starts and runs normally. this has happened 7-8 times from july 2010 until the present. 2. now, over the past two months, the car tries to stall out while driving also, and has resulted in my wife having to pull off the road and restart the car. this has only happened twice so far, but the starting and rough idle problem continues to occur approximately once every couple of weeks. on another note, i want to ensure that if any recalls occur as a result of everybody's complaints, that u.s. military stationed overseas are not left out. many of us purchase these u.s. spec cars from local dealer agencies who (re)import the cars back to europe for this purpose. oftentimes recalls are not enforceable overseas, however, this is a volkswagen and there are plenty of authorized vw dealers in germany, and in europe as a whole.

Tl*the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta. while driving approximately 65 mph she heard a throbbing noise coming from the speakers and all of the interior lights stopped functioning. she was also unable to use the radio. the vehicle was driven onto the emergency lane and shut off. upon restarting the vehicle it would function normally. the failure continued to occur intermittently. she also stated that she would attempt to change the radio station but the radio would intermittently display a message reading "no cd" or "no magazine". a few months later while driving approximately 10 mph the vehicle stalled. upon restarting the vehicle it functioned normally. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on 3 occasions where they were unable to diagnose the failures. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 100 and the current mileage was 10,000.
Brand new volkswagen jetta sportwagen tdi has stalled at speeds from 25-65 mph with absolutely no warning (no warning lights or messages and no change in driving performance). this has occurred 3 times at approximately 4k miles. the 3rd time the car had to be towed from a major expressway since the engine would not restart. the vw dealer found fault code p2146. they did not find anything wrong with the car during testing and simply cleared the codes with the assistance of a vw of america technician working remotely. the vw of america tech advised test driving 20 miles and returning the car to us. the car worked well for the next 5k miles but has now stalled randomly again twice while driving. i was nearly hit today as the car stalled in the middle of an intersection as i was turning left. prior events have led to nearly being rearended on 4 lane highways with 2 adults and a 3 and 5 year old in the back seat. this is my first new car and i have never felt this unsafe in cars i have owned that are over 10 years old. vw seems to think it is ok to return this car to customers and will not provide me any information on the frequency of this occurrence in this make and model across the country. i am having it towed to the vw dealer (sutliff in harrisburg pa) where i bought the car. they indicated they will work on the car again. i'm afraid this will just mean clearing codes and test driving. the mechanics have all agreed that they would not feel safe driving their family in my car...my new car. note: rvutb 2414/yl 2.0l tdi ecm softward update was performed on this car as part of recall between incidents. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta tdi. while the contact was driving approximately between 25-35 mph, the engine stalled without warning for three seconds and resumed. the instrument panel gauge read normally during the failure. the failure occurred at least two to three times a day or greater; and reached the number of fifteen times while the vehicle was in motion. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing. the technician was unable to detect a problem. the vehicle was taken to the dealer four times for the same failures which there were no resolutions. in addition, the failure occurred when the vehicle was at a complete stop with an increase in the engine rpms and the tachometer displaying a different reading. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 100.
My vw jetta tdi stalled while coming to a stop sign after the clutch was depressed. it did this occasionally during the first year of ownership. after a year of ownership and a dozen or so incidents, the car started to stall multiple times during a one half-hour commute. twice recently, once on my way to work and once on my way back, the car stalled two and three times respectively. it even stalled on the highway going 65 mph when the clutch was depressed. usually, it stalls when coming to a red light or stop sign when the clutch is depressed in order to take the car out of gear. at 12000 miles, the engine light came on and off a few times and then remained on. the diesel particulate filter and egr valve were replaced which is highly unusual for a car with such low mileage. also, after my 20000 mile service the engine light went on again and the dealer replaced the #4 exhaust gas temperature sensor. before the 20k service i had called the dealer the day i stalled 3 times and reported my engine light went on. i went to the dealer a few days later, thursday, for the service and the light had gone out by then. the dealer said there was a software update for the ecm to be done in addition to the regular service. i left the dealer after the 20k service only to have my engine light go on again and the car stall again. so i went back to the dealer and that is when they changed the #4 exhaust gas temperature sensor. it did not sound to me like a proper fix for this problem as i believe it could be either an electronic glitch with the ecm or other electrical components or some fuel system problem whereby fuel flow is interrupted when going from load to no load scenarios, i.e. clutch engaged. anyhow, i stalled again two miles from the dealer from which i had driven. the dealer says they can't duplicate it or find any codes related to it. they will call vw again.
Tl*the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta tdi. the contact stated that the vehicle lost power in third gear and when he attempted to merge into traffic, the vehicle stalled without warning. the failure occurred intermittently. he was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer several times but the failure could not be diagnosed. the dealer replaced the fuel filter which did not correct the problem. the failure mileage was 0 and the current mileage was 20,000. updated 03/16/11 *bf the consumer stated the hesitation was frequent in 3rd gear during acceleration. updated 10/12/11
The car chronically stalls in first or second gear in stop and go traffic, at very slow speeds or when coasting. when giving it gas and letting out the clutch, it just stalls with no warning. have spoken with other jetta tdi owners and they acknowledge same problem
2010 volkswagon jetta sportwagon tdi automatc transmission.the vehicle loses total power if the driver "power brakes" the vehicle. ie: if you are sitting at stop sign during heavy traffic, left foot on the brake, and you attempt to accelerate quiclky, the car will move forward slightly as if it stalled, your first response is to brake quickly, thinking the car stalled, when you realize this is not the case, then accelerate, this can create the same effect, because of a panic situation and the foot still on the brake this has happened to me several times, almost causing a serious t style collision. i asked the dealer and he confirmed that if the driver brakes and acclerates at the same time this will occur. to demonstrate this further, i have attempted to brake while traveling at various speeds and the car seems to "brake and lose enormous mount of power". i feel as though a saftey warning should be given directly to the new owner of this type of vehicle, such as a caution sticker that any driver, especially that may have borrowed the vehicle, will be aware of the grave consequenses of power braking a vw. diesel. im glade that this happened to me rather than to my wife or daughter the outcome may not have been the same. *tr
Hi, we purchased a 2010 vw jetta tdi sportwagen in september of last year and within the first 300 miles it went into a limp mode with reduced power and the glowplug light was flashing. i limped home at half power and parked it. when i went to start it to see what the mileage was the car had no problem. i made the dealer aware of this and they blew it off as a fluke and if it happened again to call them. at around 750 miles we were driving on the highway and were passing a car when the car again went into a reduced power limp mode and almost caused me to get into an accident since the person behind me almost rear ended us. i had to very carefully pull over to the side of the road at 10:00 pm. i shut the car off and restarted it after waiting 2 minutes and it started up again like nothing happened. i called my dealer and made an appointment to drop it off telling them i don't want it back until the problem is fixed. they kept it for two weeks and drove it around putting 500 miles on it that they said were trouble and event free. they couldn't replicate the problem and when they ran a diagnostic they found that the egr valve was throwing a code. they said that they checked it, cleared the code and that's it. now after almost 10,000 miles we never had a problem again but i do believe they did a secret fix and gave it back to me. it was very scary to have the stalling happen to me out of the blue on the highway. someone needs to investigate this. *tr
I've been driving manual trans cars and trucks for 30 years and never experienced the amount of stalling my 6 speed 2010 vw jetta sportwagen tdi exhibits while driving low speeds. at first i thought it was just me getting used to the car, but several online forums discuss the same problem. i have owned the car 4 months and experience over 6 stalls. very easy stalling at low speeds. *ln
