Recently reported FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER problems on 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

My 2009 jetta tdi sportwagen stalled at an exit ramp and i assumed i'd let the clutch slip. when i turned it back on, the check engine light came on. after parking and being away from the car for a couple hours, the light didn't come back on. a week or so later, the same sequence of events happened and, since the car was due for its 30k service, i took it to the dealer to be checked out. they hooked it up to the diagnostics and said it needed a software update, which they did. i picked the car up the next day, and on the way home from the dealer, the engine died and the check engine light came on, again. i took it back to the dealer, where they ran the diagnostics once more, and said it was a faulty sensor, so they replaced the sensor. the next day, the light was back on. the third time i took the car in, i realized the connection between the engine stalls, and the check engine light, and told that to the service associate. after checking things out, they called and said they would be keeping it for at least a week, because they'd found metal bits in the fuel system, and had ordered parts to replace the entire system. *tr
