We have classified the 5 complaints from 2002 Volkswagen Jetta about SEAT BELTS into the following categories.
I pulled the seat belt out to put it on and i heard a noise and the belt went completely slack. there is no tension on the belt. *tr
Traveling at 70mph under normal driving conditions on interstate the roof and seat airbags and seatbelt lockdown on the driver's side spontaneously deployed causing temporary loss of control of vehicle and neck strain. repairs to fix airbags cost over $4,000. volkswagon investigated and were no help. gave no reason for spontaneous airbag deployment. very unsafe experience! *tr
Seat belt made noise when putting on and suddenly had no tension. since seat belt will no longer retract. *tr
This isn't necessarily a complaint, i just wanted it to be noted in case other jetta drivers are having the same problem. my driver's side seatbelt retractor gave out on my volkswagon 2002 jetta last night. big safety concern, vw says they will have to order a part for me, meanwhile my seatbelt is broken! i am hoping vw covers the cost of this since it is a huge safety concern. *tr
My son was in his high back booster seat when this happened. he was in the rear drivers side sitting with his seat belt on. we came home after groceries and i asked him to get inside the house while i was unloading the car. he heard him crying, so i went to him to find out that he was locked in his seat belt and the seat belt was locked. luckily the seat belt was near his waist not neck. i called my husband and trying to unlock the seat belt and tried to get him out. could not do anything, lifted him a bit and removed his carseat, thinking it would loosen up, even that retracted back. after 1 hour of struggle, we finally had to cut the seat belt with a scissors. his waist was twisted in the belts and he had bruises on his waist. so sad that this locking technology works so badly. this has caused so much paid to all of us seeing him cry and got stuck. *tr
I inadvertently hit a pot hole. the pot hole was probably a little deeper than most. the driver's side-curtain airbag, the seat side airbag and the seatbelt tensioner were deployed. there was no damage to the car. there was no immediate danger to me. i did not lose control of the car even with the startling deployment of the safety systems. i was told by the guy in one of the body shops that i went to to get estimates that vws and bmws are known for their "touchy" airbag systems. i do not think that it is reasonable to have a $2700 repair bill, the inconvenience of all of the legwork to get my car fixed or the temporary non-functioning of my car's safety system just from hitting a pot hole! i am working on a claim and have not yet had the car repaired. parts listed as being necessary to replace are: side curtain airbag, seat side airbag, seat belt/tensioner assembly, seat cover, a-pillar trim, headliner, sail panel trim, airbag sensor and airbag control module. also, the car will need to be plugged into a computer analyzer in order that the airbag codes be reset. *tr
