Recently reported VISIBILITY problems on 1999 Volkswagen Jetta

Since 14,000 miles driver's side window has come off the track on two occasions, and both rear side windows came off the track one time each. problem are still occurring. dealer and manufacturer were notified. feel free to provide any further information.*ak

I recently had a problem with my front passenger side window regulator. my window fell into the door. i called the service department at burlington vw located in burlington, nj on july 13 to try and get this fixed as soon as possible. i was told that they could put the window in the up position for me, but it would be a couple of weeks before they could actually fix the problem. on july 14, i decided to go to a repair shop (anthony_x0012_s corner inc., located in mt. holly, nj) that could hopefully fix the problem much sooner. the repairman at anthony_x0012_s put the window in the up position and ordered a new window regulator for me. about a week later it came to my attention that vw is aware of this common problem, so i was hopeful that vw would cover the costs of the repair. i filled out the customer care form on vw.com july 24 explaining the problem that i was having. a vw customer care rep left me a voice mail message the next day, so i followed up with them on july 26. the vw customer care rep informed me that i needed to take my vehicle to a vw dealer for them to diagnose the problem, thus requiring me to pay a diagnostic fee for something i already knew was broke. in addition, i was told that this is the only way they will consider assisting me. i then called back to burlington vw on july 26, and spoke to someone in the service department. i was then told there was know need to schedule an appointment right now because _x0013_the part is on national back order_x0014_. additionally, i was told by the burlington vw repairman that since i have over 36,000 miles (vw good-will period) vw will not cover the cost of the repair. in conclusion, i received a call from anthony_x0012_s july 27, letting me know that the window regulator had come in. in my opinion vw is hiding the fact that this model year (and maybe others) have defective window regulators. my other windows make noise occasionally, so i know it_x0012_s only a matter of time before another window drops into the door.

While driving about 65 mph passenger's side door glass fell down due to failure on glass support. vehicle could not be repaired due to over mileage. please provide more information.*ak

Window arms should not be breaking on a 2.5yr old car with less than 50k mi. this is a product defect. *ak

Driver's power window was rolled up and suddenly it plunged down into the door. motor still worked, but pieces of plastic were broken off on inside of the door. dealer stated clip had stress signs that caused them to collapse.

Window regulators fail due to defective design sending glass crashing down inside the door with no warning. the part is being replaced with one that has been redesigned. volkswagen is aware of this problem but has failed to notify vehicle owners. this is a saftey issue. while operating a vehicle at highway speeds or in bad weather conditions one should not expect the window to fall down inside the door. my dealer has stated that they are replacing atleast one a day.*ak

The passenger window broke in the down position and became inoperable. *yh

3 of 4 windows failed within months of each other. first failure traveling wiht family on highway. window went down and would not roll up. second failure in rainy season in florida, window dropped into door. right front window stuck and motor overheats when try to use window posing possible fire risk. also poses possible entrapment since no way to force window down in event of being trapped. these are known issues by vw and they have yet to do anything about it. i hope it doens;t take death or injury for vw to notice the problems inherent in the design of their windows and regulators.

Faulty driver's side power window regulator is dangerous because the window falls down into the door. the driver must negotiate continued driving without an operation window and is subject to safety risk.

Vehicle runs out of oil every 1500 miles, and the transmission is very jerky. *ak windshield wipers were streaking because wipers were separating. instrument panel cup holder loose on tight side. the stick shift vibrates in 3rd gear due to selector shaft failure. *yh

Engine transmission light failed after 3 months, both windows have fallen down into door, front bumper has been torn off, antena and other plastic objects around car have fallen off,abs system light is on again, cover for gas tank will not open (i had to pry it open), cup holders and mirror covers have broken, inside of car started to bubble after 6 months, because of the plastic. all the service department in san antonio could say was that i did not know how to manage car. i didn't know i had to take a class in opening the gas cover. oddly enough, most of these things started to break after my two year warranty expired. all they had to say was that "when it rains it pours". i would never recommend this car to anyone

This is an extremely dangerous situation and the vehicle should be recalled. 2 front windows just falling down during driving the vehicle is a hazard to the driver, other motorist and child occupants.*ak

Consumer was involved in a collision in which seat belts did not lock up upon impact, and driver's/passenger's air bags did not deploy. cause unknown, also steering rack and pinion was damaged . *ak passenger window fell off twice. *yh

3 of 4 power windows have stopped working completely. ca vw dealership diagnosed that voltage regulator and motor needed to be replaced on all three windows. we feel that at 48,000 miles the power windows should not require a major overhaul.*ak

The auto up feature of my 1999 volkswagen jetta driver side window has not functioned properly since i purchased the vehicle. over 50 percent of the time, the window does not stay closed. instead, it automatically retracts. i complained about this several times to the dealer in fargo nd during the two year warranty period on the car. they were never able to duplicate the problem while the car was in for scheduled maintenance. the problem continues to this day. *nlm
