We have classified the 105 complaints from 2009 Toyota Tacoma about SUSPENSION into the following categories.
I have exactly the same problem with read leaf springs as everybody else- the rear is sagging and and the front end is starting to rise(excessive tire wear) my truck has 66,000 miles and it only carries a 210lb vintage dirtbike 5 or 6 times a year. do people have to start dying like gm's ignition switch before someone in the federal govt gets off their rear end and actually does their job? also spiral cable recall that could damage driver's airbag(cob (c1b) i have paperwork from toyota and dealer stating the recall and now they are denying that one exists or ever existed. also, when transmission shifts at low speeds(usually downshifting, clunk is heard in drive shaft) too much lash in rearend or junk u-joints. i have an aas in automotive technolgy and over 105 credits in automotive engineering . i'm not just blowing smoke. when i lived in nys, i had a vehicle inspection license and i would definitely fail many toyotas with these problems. no inspection sticker-no driving of vehicle.
I began to drive my vehicle today and heard a strange clanking noise. i pulled over and upon inspection i found that one of the right rear leaf springs was broken. i have never had a load in the bed of the truck over 500lbs. i see that prior model year tacomas had a recall for this problem. the truck had the same part but the recall does not extend to 2009. *tr
After purchasing the vehicle, in sept 2011, i had my truck for only a few weeks and i was driving and hit a small bump and heard as well as felt a loud thump coming from the steering column area, i also noticed my bed was moving a little as well. i brought the truck into the dealership as soon as i heard the issue, but the dealership said they didn't hear or feel anything. now when i hit any bump (big/small) i can literally see the bed on my truck move in my side mirrors, the issues are progressing and my truck is still under warranty and i want these issues fixed asap, esp since its still under warranty . extremely harsh ride, and feeling unsafe to drive, needs to be fixed asap. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2009 toyota tacoma. the contact heard a rattling noise while driving. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who inspected the vehicle and stated the failure was within the rear axle right leaf spring near the gas line which was corroded and had broke in half. the manufacturer stated the failure was not a recall for the 2009 tacoma and would not assist with the repair. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current miles were 78,700.
The rear springs started squeaking about 19,000 miles. when pulling a trailer vehicle sways badly. with 600 lbs of weight in bed, vehicle sits really low. *tr
When my 2009 tacoma reached about 18,500 miles the rear spring started to squeak. you can hear it even getting in & out of the vehicle. if you put much weight in the back it will squat & lift the front end up. it even does poorly pulling an empty trailer. this is my 10th + toyota & i am very disappointed that this type of problem pops up & toyota won't do anything about it. i may just by a gmc next time. *tr
My tacoma has a constant shimmy in the steering wheel. my mechanic and toyota service have tried balancing, alignments and road-force testing, but nothing works to eliminate the shake. it is at it's worst when i first accelerate to cruising speed after the truck has sat for eight hours. at these times it is an approximately a 1/4 inch shimmy in the wheel, and is quite a violent shake. it seems to dissipate after a while, but the shimmy never goes away completely. it exists with both my all-season tires, and my snow tires. *tr
The radio acts erratically and unpredictably. it changes stations, turns itself off and on, etc. sometimes the controls, such as the volume, are non-responsive, so the radio cannot be turned down or off when needed. since fiddling with the radio usually makes it eventually start working again, it is a distraction hazard. i have drifted over the yellow line trying to get it working again. the dealer has acknowledged the defect but refused to repair it. it is an ongoing problem. the dealer said it is a very common problem but toyota will not provide replacement parts. i believe few people report it because the radio is not seen as a safety issue, but it is a serious distraction. *tr the consumer stated the air bag light has been on for two years. also, one of the leaf springs had broken in half.
I have a 2009 toytoa tacoma with 26,000 miles, and the leaf suspension is failing. there are audible groans and creaks just getting in and out of the car, or if i put in loads as light as 50 pounds. further, the ride has become worse over bumps. toyota has issued tsbs for this issue in earlier models, but they have not addressed the problem, and there isn't a tsb for 2009. *tr
The truck bottoms out at about half the payload capacity of 1,295 pounds. a 652lb atv caused the truck to bottom out. there is a tsb out for 2005-2008 models and toyota claims it has remedied the problem but the same exact parts are still in use on the 2009 models. *tr
