This car has been maintained and preserved and only 84000 miles on it. and the car wont shift. it jolts me or revs extremely high and also almost caused me an accident as it almost shut down on power while making a left turn in intersection. the check engine light comes on and off. it's only while going from 2nd to 3rd or shifting down from 2 to 1st. i had my mechanic look at it and he said it's a common issue with the ecu to take it to dealership to replace for free and they want to charge me 150 just to examine it.
Auto burning excessive oil and coolant box stays full to top car is stationary
Two weeks ago the car came on with an error message stating the hybrid system had failed. i brought it into the dealer and they replaced a relay valve and said they had been having the same problem in cold weather with other rav4 hybrids. now today, i went to start the car and it was listing about 6 error messages, everything from the brake power being low, engine failure, etc. the car wouldn't start and had to be towed to the dealership.
I forgot to turn off the engine (push button) after parking. the engine ran for more than 5 hours until i returned. unlike the traditional key that most of us remember to take it after parking. removing the key will turn off the engine. i am of the opinion that this a critical safety issue: 1. the engine could overheat in hot summer and may even catch on fire 2. anyone can drive the car away without the key. low or totally no key signal means the driver is not near to the car. the engine should not be running at all. for the least, there should be should be some loud alert. the rav4 built-in technology has an auto shut off feature on acc mode after certain period and remote engine start/stop feature. one cannot start the car without the key nearby. why cannot toyota incorporate the auto off feature on the key signal level, i.e. below certain key signal level turn the engine off automatically. i have reported to toyota. it appears that toyota is not ...
Just purchased 2011 rav4 with 104k miles and soon found out it has a bad cam gear! apparently this is a known defect for this year! of course it's not under warranty at this mileage! shocked like everyone else to find out this wasn't recalled by toyota. they need to step up and take responsibility for this known faulty part! not happy with my first toyota!
Temporary loss of power. on a trip from san francisco to cypress, ca on the i-5 freeway cruising at 70 mph a sudden temporary loss of power occurred at least 30 times (this with odometer in 6,000 mile range). i had reported this problem to my toyota dealer at approximately 3000 miles. they said their technician could not find any problem. around 1/3/2020 i took it to dealer and said i would leave it there until they repaired it. i purchased an 8 year extended warranty in oct., 2014. after. 4 days dealer called for me to pick it up. was told there was no problem, their computer read my car computer and found that while right foot was on gas and left foot either near or on the brake pedal when it occurred. since my left foot was resting on mat without any movement why didn't the loss of power happen constantly! they said it was a safety feature. i say it is a danger.. i have had it happen making right or left turns & starting when signal turns green. on line i have seen same complaints. one mechanic suggested it could be a mass air flow circuit ...
Excessive oil consumption ( 1 qt/400 miles), car is now at 108k miles. oil consumption test done at 83k (used only 1/4 qt so passed) at roswell, atlanta. and i was asked to top up oil during oil changes. no notice received from toyota for oil consumption issues. how come the car consuming just 1/4 qt/1000 miles consuming 1 full qt/400 miles now? (assuming test is done correctly) i dont know. but found on internet that this is an issue with this engine. i woke up late. car is out of warranty since 05/18 for any fix. toyota acted so cheap by not recalling the cars here despite knowing the issue very well. i always thought toyota is known for reliability but not anymore.
The wiring harness was chew completely up. this affected my power brakes, engine, steering system, etc. these lights came on while driving the car! rats chewed my wiring .
When i'm driving at slow speeds the engine feels like it stalled or downshifted and the display gets dark but car is still 'on', however, it will no longer accelerate. the steering seems to be affected too. unfortunately, it only resolved by turning the car off and back on, causing traffic to stop or swerve to avoid hitting me 3x the past 2 weeks.
