Upon starting the vehicle it makes a high-pitched beep, followed by a buzzing sound that repeats every five to eight seconds. the dashboard displays the tps, abs, vsc, and brake lights. when putting the vehicle in drive, the high-pitch sound returns for one to two minutes. during that time the brake pedal becomes impossible to depress. if the engaged, the vehicle does not stop until the brake pressure returns. once the sound stops, the brake pressure returns to normal. diagnosis from toyota shows: code c1256 = accumulator low pressure. code c1391 abnormal leak of accumulator pressure. estimate for repairs = $2,811.72. at present the vehicle is unsafe to operate as toyota advised, in the vehicle's current condition the brake system could fail at any time.
Car fails to stop and/or loses traction when applying the brakes at low speeds. my tire shop has inspected both winter and summer tires for tread and inflation, so those factors weren't an issue during the times i lost traction control. examples include: 1) skidding and failing to come to a complete stop at the exit to a dry, paved parking lot (fortunately my car stopped before entering traffic, but i slid past the actual stop sign in line with the sidewalk - it felt like i was rolling on loose gravel but when i got out and checked the pavement was clean); 2) failing to stop when applying brakes on a straight road in snow as i approached a light that was changing while going about 30-35 mph (i had enough stopping distance to test every braking technique, from normal braking to pumping the brakes to pushing the brake pedal all the way to the floor; i ended up making an emergency right turn into the shoulder otherwise i would have gone through the light into the path of other cars); 3) sliding and failing to stop on winter side streets despite only traveling 5 mph because i don't ...
Traction control, abs and brake lights came on today and brake pressure dropped severely while driving on the highway. not safe to drive.
My brakes have failed due to a faulty brake accumulator and brake booster on my 2010 toyota prius. i noticed this problem when attempting to come to a stop at a redlight. the brakes felt spongy and unresponsive. i narrowly missed colliding with the car in front of me by swerving onto the shoulder. toyota previously acknowledged this faulty part but claims that i missed the deadline by 35 days to get it fixed. the repair costs roughly $4,000 which toyota has refuse do to accept responsibility for. i cannot afford to fix this and believe that it is irresponsible for toyota to put their profits above the safety of its' customers. i do no this believe that it is ethical to put a deadline on a safety concern of this nature.

I had some brake work done on my car at meineke on january 6, and when they did the brake bleed they were unable to bleed the left rear brake. they did some investigating and said it was going to take several hours of labor to diagnose. i decided to take it to the dealership, which i did on jan 7. they got error code c1253, and diagnosed the problem as an internal leak in the actuator. this is both a dangerous and expensive problem. looking around online i saw that this was a known problem in priuses (both gen 2 and gen 3), and has been the subject of warranty enhancement program zg-1. unfortunately, that wep expired at the end of 2017. given the dangerousness of the issue (i.e. this is not an optional repair if you want to keep driving your car safely) and the number of people who continue to experience this known problem, it seems like toyota should issue a recall (ideal; would prevent people from discovering the problem by losing brake function while driving) or at least continue to cover the full cost of replacements. i'm just "lucky" i discovered the issue while having other ...
