Ever since i purchased my 2010 prius in november, 2009 the brakes have been a problem. when braking while driving over a bump or pothole the car looses braking ability and there is a surge of power. the dealership claims there is no problem and the recall work has not made a noticeable difference. *tt
When braking quickly usually on rough surfaces, wet roads, slopes brakes temporarily fail as if no control over the car giving me an adrenaline rush. i have been driving like this for 4 years thinking is the characteristic of prius. june 30th 2011, i steered into the parking lot and was parking on the first spot at the right immediately after entry to parking lot at the speed of 5 mph. approximately half way to curb i withdrew my foot off the gas pedal and put on the brakes slowly. i was expecting the car to halt prior to the curb line as usual. but it did not stop on the contrary it accelerated and went over the curb and right on the fence. the fence was approximately 2 feet from curb; before it went on fence i looked at my feet and made sure it was on the brakes as could not believe what was happening to the car and yes i am 100% sure it was on brakes. i also applied parking brakes and put car in neutral and shut off the power, when it stopped over the fence. i have reported this to dealer as ...
(1). i slammed on the brakes, but there was no power brakes. the 2005 prius slowed, but did not stop until it crashed into another vehicle. i was going approximately 35 mph, and i traveled 3 car lengths before colliding with the other vehicle. (2). loss of power assist had previously occurred while backing up, but this was the first failure going forward. (3). total loss(totaled,, $7,000 damage). the 2005 prius is now at an automobile recycling yard. )4) i notified toyota. but i had to call them back several times, and after 15 days, someone finally answered, instead of me getting their voice mail. if the power brakes had failed at an intersection, it could have been a fatal crash. *kb
Backed 2010 prius up and started to make u-turn in driveway. when pulled forward turning applied brakes and well there were none. traveled about 15 feet and hit a brick wall. after some delay the engine now had some control as the brakes also did. waiting for towing instructions to get the car to garage. maximum speed was maybe 5mph. *tr
2010 prius. brake fade during hard braking on rough surface. the brakes suddenly fade then grab hard. *tr
Having problems with the braking on my 2010 toyota prius. at slow to moderate speeds while i am braking and go over a pothole the car seems to stop braking and keeps going. i then have to depress the brake harder to make the car stop. i haven't had any collisions because of this issue because i have not been following closely behind a car. but i believe if i was, i would have definitely rear-ended another vehicle. *tr
Nov 15 2010 the car was in service for 5000 miles check. the dealership declared that the brakes and coolant flow valve needed replacement and stated the car was unsafe to drive. upon agreeing for repairs the dealership said the car was safe to drive and it will take 2 weeks for parts to arrive. 15 dec 2010 the car was taken in for stated repairs ($2000), since then the car has have intermittently braking failures at low speeds under 20 mph and at stops on a downgrade. the car was taken in for repairs again in 16 jan 2011. the car stills has intermittent failures, the lights to the parking brakes, abs brakes, vbc lights and the warning lights are still on since the repairs. while replacing the tires firestone on 30 jan 2011 found the code 1247 on the ecu by their technician. the lights on the dash board are still on at all times. after leaving firestone, the car surge forward while stop on a downgrade while the brake depress, i felt the pressure release thus i depress harder on the brakes petal until it was on the floor, i ...
My 2010 prius' brakes did not respond while on the road on 1/22/11. then 2x again on 1/23/11. as a consumer, i do not know who regulates car companies but i have called the manufacturer and they need to 'duplicate' the problem. in the past, my brakes would accelerate before it would catch and the problem was not 'duplicated' by the dealer. this time the brakes failed me 3x within 24 hours and i am extremely concerned. i would like to know which government agency to report it to and what better options i have to get a resolution. *tr
During wet weather, the brakes grab. this usually occurs during the first 10 mins. of driving. based on the recent recalls, i decided to do some research online to determine if others owners had similar problems. i have not taken the car in to the dealership. the brakes have been this way since i've owned the car. *tr
I was coming off of an onramp and intending to turn right at the light. i needed to get into the left lane as i was turning left at the next block. i applied the brakes to slow down and make the turn and nothing happened when i pressed on the brakes. i ended up going up over the curb and the plants stopped the car. the engine was off when i came to a stop, though i didn't turn it off. if there hadn't been a meridian in between the cross traffic, i would have gone into the lanes ahead of me. very scary. i had my car towed to toyota to check it out first, but there looks to be thousands of dollars of damage to my prius. the whole lower front is smashed and crunched, the two left side tires are flat and the rim is partially torn off on the front tire. *tr
