On average, the 2014 Toyota Camry starts to “feel” problems with the UNKNOWN OR OTHER and its various aspects after 43 991 miles.

Recently reported UNKNOWN OR OTHER problems on 2014 Toyota Camry

I was driving southbound on us highway 141in wisconsin, just north of the lineville rd exit. i was going the speed limit approx. 70 mph. the temp. was in the 60s and the sky was overcast with no precip. there was little traffic and i was on a flat stretch of road with no vehicles directly in front or behind. there was no construction and/or road equipment in sight. i had not driven under any structures. suddenly my sunroof exploded above my head. the sunroof was closed and the interior screen was pulled shut. i did not see any objects or animals, only glass flying in the rearview mirror. it was a terrifying sound, like a shotgun blast. i pulled off at the nearest exit in a towing area and saw that there was a big hole in the glass and shards of shattered glass on top of the interior screen, which had been pulled shut. i called 911 and explained what happened. two brown county wis. officers came and looked at the damage and assessed there had not been any kind of gun shot. the officers documented the call. i was forced to drive holding the inside screen with one hand holding it shut, so it would not blow open, for approximately 40 miles to meet my husband and switch cars.i felt very unsafe and was shaken, as i had never experienced anything like this before. i have read, online, that there have been many other similar incidents and i believe it is a toyota manufacturing defect and safety issue. i called toyota and reported the incident but they said my car did not qualify for any current "programs" and it was my responsibility to repair. fortunately i was not cut by glass, but was badly shaken to the point of feeling nauseated for hours afterwards.

The touchscreen has completely gone out and you can no longer use touch to access car settings - therefore not being able to change key features on the car. a couple examples would be automatically locking and unlocking the car, and dimming screen brightness for safer driving at night. the screen has gradually gone out over time and officially quit october 2019.

I originally bought a vehicle from carbone subaru of troy ny on 11/27 2018. (complaint originally submitted december, 2019). the car was a lemon. i finally got a replacement vehicle (with clean carfax) on 12/31/18. on 8/30/19, car was totaled due amount of mold found everywhere in the car, icluding roof and spare tire in trunk. i called carbone subaru several times and was ignored. i finally got ahold of melinda @ lithia motor group hq in oregon. i was told she would call me back within a week. over 3 weeks later and several attempts i got ahold of her. i explained to her i complained about the horrific odor in the car to my salesperson and to a mechanic, and was given an air freshener. i was told that i bought the car in winter, and water is a summer problem, and they would only help me if i bought a 3rd car from them. i now have to follow up with a pulmonary specialist for the next several years to check for mold related health problems. it has also cost $150 in doctor co-pays so far, $500 in insurance deductible, $1,500 for down payment and expenses for having to buy another car after 8 months of owning the 2014 camry. i have several pictures of the mold found in camry, the complete loss statement by insurance, the $20,000+ estimate to remediate the mold, and medical documentation

The front door locks no longer operate by remote. this is not a remote problem since my rear door locks do respond. i believe the front door lock actuators have failed on both the driver and passenger sides. the repairs for this will cost hundreds of dollars. there is currently a class action lawsuit in california. i think this is a wide spread problem.

While car was going 30-35mph, i had to slow down due to traffic. letting go of the accelerator was fine, but when i pressed the accelerator again, car stalled under low rpm for 2-3 seconds. this happened back in may and it was just sometimes. but now it's been happening everyday on low speeds and low rpm. idling is fine, car is always in operating temperature when stalling happens (so i know this is not related to cold engine). i called toyota and they're not sure what could cause it.

Vehicle have no engine check light. but hesitates n vibrates between 2 and 3 gear.

March 2017 noticed a mold smell in car. floor boards on both sides of car wet. front and back seat. mechanic files insurance claim. all mold was removed. all padding was replaced. carpet was disinfected, shampooed and put back in car. january 2019 moldy smell again, floorboards wet, odor worse than before.

Start to have the following problem on 12/20/2018 get up to 20 mph hard shift and then up to 40 mph has a vibration and then after between 45 and 55 mph it drive normal. noticeable hesitation when accelerating and shifting occurs between 30-32 mph. hesitate to accelerate between 2nd and 3rd gear when taking off, it mostly happen when the engine is first starting out from stop, afterward it fine gears shifts correctly and the idle control guage is normal between gears. i took the car to the local toyota dealer on 01/03/2019, the technician took the car for drive test and he said its a torque converter problem. they changed the torque converter part; on 1/05/2019 i went to the dealer to pick up the car and after driving for few minutes, i noticed the same problem. i retook the car to the toyota dealer for the same problem, and the same technician took for the test drive, and this time he said it has internal delay on second gear. i am not sure what's the problem, but they advised i need to change the transmission. after doing some research i found the following online. "cars equipped with an automatic transmission might experience a hesitation when accelerating. revised software for the on board computer is available which may correct this problem. software revisions are commonly most helpful on newer vehicles. once the mileage builds up a worn component could cause similar problems. whenever major transmission work in performed, the transmission software should be updated as necessary". i am taking my car on 01/07/2019 to update the software and see if that can fix the problem

Got into accident, my front bumper was damaged bad but none of my airbags deployed.

Replaced the torque converter before 57,000. according the the service ad visor this was a problem that toyota knew about and never issue a recall. my car vin was on a list. i was driving on a highway at 60 miles and notice the odometer won't move. it won't accelerate over 60 mph. the dealer change the torque converter but still having problems. the dealer won't give me a copy of the repair.

My sunroof exploding out of nowhere on the highway while i was going 75 mph and i there was no car in front of me i was on the left lane but there was a semi on the right line 6 car lengths in front of me.

When driving the left wheel vibrates around 20-40mph, especially in rainy weather and bearing to the left. while accelerating to merge on highway lots of non stop vibration from left wheel.

For almost a year now, i have been smelling a mildew odor coming from my vents. i vacuumed the interior carpets with baking soda and sprayed the vents with lysol. i checked under the hood and under the car for any leakage. nothing. i also changed my cabin air filter again. no positive results. my last option was to google toyota odor complaints and bingo, other complaints about this issue. this certainly is a problem that toyota should address and repair, without cost to the car owner.

Musty mold smell coming from air conditioning and heating vents while using heat and air conditioning.

Both front power door locks have stopped operating. the locks still work manually but it is cumbersome with the smartkey, as the smartkey has a very small blade style key that is difficult to remove from the smartkey. only opens the driver's side door has a key hole and the blade style only goes in facing one direction. a quick internet search make it apparent that this is a common problem across all toyota brands and many models and many years. out of warranty costs to repair at dealer are $600-$1200. this seems like the door lock actuators fail prematurely dues to poor (perhaps intentional) design.

Tires are worn at 19774 miles? per car dealer sun toyota in holiday florida

Toyota camry models of 2014 (rav4s also) and after have defective entertainment stereo lcds. the lower half of the lcd stops working and you can not connect phone via bluetooth. its a big problem while driving. toyota denies the repair at their cost saying the car is out of warranty. its just not an isolated situation but its wide spread. internet forums are filled with this problem. a lot of people are suffered due to this.

The driver door will not lock with the remote and now the passenger doors will not lock or unlock the remote or manually.

Ac condenser unit plugs and creates mold and bad smell from vents. mold causes people with allergies to start having reactions. in addition, there is concern that the accumulated water may then leak through a seam in the housing onto the air bag control module potentially resulting in a short circuit of the module. a short circuit may cause the air bags to become disabled or inadvertently deploy. this is similar to 2013 camry model recall. nhtsa campaign number: 13v442000. i think the recall should extend to 2014 camry model as well.

On may 25, 2017, while pulling into parking space at a shopping center, my 2014 toyota camry accelerated out of control thru the parking space without me pressing the gas pedal. i pressed the brakes and it did not stop the car. my car continued to travel at a high rate of speed thru the parking lot embankment and went thru brushes/shrubs which is where the car stopped after it blew a tire and was stopped by the shrubs. due to the damage under the car it was a total loss.

Takata recall

Weird smell comes out of the air conditioning vents when the ac compressor is activated. the smell indicates mold buildup within the vents. there are many other online forums that mention this problem as well. this is a safety concern due to public health (some people are deathly allergic to mold) and may cause driver impairment as a result. various toyota dealerships in the area offered services to replace the venting system, but that's expensive and not under warranty they say. i am lucky that it's only when i have circulation on with the air conditioner running. i do not notice it with heating the interior as others have mentioned. i feel that this is a growing problem for these model years (2012-2014) of camrys. this smell occurs whether the vehicle is in motion or not, but it does seem to go away when not in circulation mode on the climate controls.

On 11/5/2016 early afternoon was parking car with foot on brake the car suddenly accelerated without warning and ran into a brick wall and continued to accelerate until moved it into reverse. this happened in lancaster ca. also had a 2013 camry that did the same thing in lancaster ca.

My vehicle was parked in front of my house and the sunroof exploded/shattered. my car was brand new when i got it a year ago. i'm not sure if it had a defective glass or what. i do recall it was a hot day though. however, how come the sunroof glass is not made out of laminated glass as the windshield. thank goodness i was not driving at that time. we should definitely have sunroof safety standards.

Mildew smell coming from air vent every time using the ac. using air refresher gives only temporary solution. the problem is worst in very hot summer day. i have a 2 months newborn who rides the car and i am worried about this health concern.

Mold smell in ac vents on summer days everytime i turn on car for at least 5 minutes. its unhealthy and embarassing to have a 2 year old car that smells awful when turned on. i have read on many forums this is a very common issue with camrys .

Driving at 50mph when i heard a loud "pop" at first i thought it was a gunshot. i continued to drive only to hear a rattling noise, i slid back the sunroof cover to notice the sunroof had exploded. i contacted toyota usa to no avail, only to be told they have no recalls. i googled the 2014 toyota camry exploding, low and behold there were several other complaints identical to mine!

First, i don't own toyota camry, but every time i drive following behind it that brake lights (led) are so bright that hurts my eyes and makes my vision blotches for awhile. i believe this is unsafe. i hope our government can investigate this and see if those led used in camry complies safety standard.

Car time from time will not accelerate it goes limp and take a minute to regain speed or power taken the car into big two toyota they found no codes and could not replicate the problem a computer software update was completed symptoms remain the same i purchased a scanner from the local parts store to see if maybe i'm just crazy come to find our there are codes present called and talked to one of the floor managers and he said its not important enough to set a check engine light so dont worry about it i believe that was the best poor choice of advise to offer a customer that's bringing in a2014 car that having prombles

The side windows housing has melted on both side windows. this is causing obscure vision when turning. have not gotten into accident and need toyota to fix asap before other get into serious trouble. spoke to company and they take corporate line on saying that this is not normal and that they need more information but never seek information even when i provide multiple contact info. would love to share pic.

We bought a brand new 2014 toyota camry, and there's a mold problem in the ac. it smells aweful. the chemical spray they use to fix it doesn't work. when they spray it, it smells even worse for several days, but then it always comes back. it costs $100 each treatment. spent $$ trying other products, but nothing seems to work. very costly and no remedy.

There is mold growing in my ac/heating system that is making me very ill. it is a known problem and toyota has done nothing about it. for more than a yr. now i have been experience a serious sinus infection. at a recent maint. inspection the service mgr. told me of the problem. my car is fairly new and still under warranty, they want to charge me $185 to treat the problem not correct it! the smell is constant.

2014 toyota camry. consumer feels inspections should not be performed on new vehicles the next year. it should be performed every two years. *ta

Since we purchases this car in 2014, we have experienced the gas pedal being pushed to the floor and the car not moving. the toyota service department says we had our foot on the brake and gas pedal at the same time. which is not true. all times the auto was in motion and we stepped on the gas to get up to highway speed. 2nd. the driver side rights rough, and when a pot hole is hit with the left wheel it sounds like metal hitting metal. when going into a right turn 65-75 mph the auto feels like it is skipping off the road, to a point it does not feel safe. we have records from toyota service department, going back to oct. 2014. we appreciate what you can do. In june 2014 i bought a 2014.5 camry brand new. during the first week i drove it the accelerator would not speed up after pressing down & hesitated as well trying to catch up. i reported this to toyota of orlando & was informed it was learning my driving techniques after a test drive. the report was never documented by the service department & i had to identify who drove me for the problem i reported to prove i actually reported it. it was stated he just forgot. this kept happening very frequently & after another driver randomly drove my car & asked what was wrong i immediately took it in again nov 27,2014. they did nothing. i was refused to be seen after scheduling an appointment with toyota of clermont, fl & they heard of my problem. the problem persisted. december 28, 2014 as i was driving with people in my car, the engine cut off at 55 mph. i pressed the accelerator all the way down & it continued to decline. this was reported the next morning. i was told to park my car because everyone was on vacation & not to drive it. they would not rent a car for me in the meantime. once i was able to be seen it could not be duplicated. this happened again with my children in january 2015 & was also recorded by a passenger riding with me. after that occasion every signal light came on. i took it back to a different toyota of central florida dealer & reported the problem & the mechanic stated nobody from toyota orlando attempted to contact or call the service tech line to find the problem. they added a code to fix it and i left. after 1000 miles of driving the hesitation started again & also the gears could be felt changing by the mechanic who test drove it with me. the toyota dealership at central florida gave me a repair order & then a totally different repair order to corporate. i've written the manufacturer demanding my money back & they constantly give me false information. my job was lost due to no reliable transportation and i'm still waiting to go to a lemon law hearing that will hopefully be scheduled soon.

My 2014 camry has less than 20,000 miles on it and i am about to be on my 3rd cabin filter due to a moldy smell in my car. i bought this car for my wife brand new and i have complained to the dealership multiple times about this issue. they have accepted the fault and in april of this year they replaced the cabin filter free of charge. less than 6 months later it has gone bad again, the car smells moldly and my child and wife are surrounded by this moldy smell whenever the a/c is on. i have filed a complaint with toyota with the request for them to buy-back this vehicle from me as every other vehicle i have owned doesn't need a cabin filter until 50-60k miles. toyota has acknowledged this issue and fault. i was advised to place a complaint at this time here since this odor is effecting my families health. toyota has been slow returning my calls and has advised me that this process will take over 30 days from here.
