Accelerator gets stuck open. i took my foot off the gas and the vehicle accelerated. it would rev at high speeds when i stepped on the brake. i tried downshifting with no effect. when i finally stopped at a stoplight with both feet on the brakes the engine revved up to very high rpms, even when i put the vehicle in park. then it finally stalled out.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 toyota camry. while driving approximately 55 mph on the highway, the vehicle accelerated on its own at a high rate of speed. the contact had to apply extreme force to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was coasted to the side of the road. the gear was shifted into neutral as the rpms increased. the gear was shifted into park and the vehicle was turned off, but was unable to be restarted. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that there was engine failure due to nhtsa campaign numbers: 10v017000 (vehicle speed control) and 09v388000 (vehicle speed control). the previous owner did not have the recall repairs performed on the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to toyota world of newton (66 hampton house rd, newton, nj 07860, (973) 383-0200) and both recall repairs were performed. the vehicle was still at the dealer until the manufacturer determined if they would authorize the engine assembly replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures and was to respond to the dealer and the owner. the approximate failure mileage was 158,000.

The car has burned oil from day one. the transmission will not downshift enough to hold motor back properly going down an incline. it won't hold back by transmission even if you down shift your self.

Sudden cluster failure of dashboard while driving, possible short in abs control system causes loss of odometer and speedometer, jumping needle for engine temperature and tachomteter, loss of gear indicator light. both check abs and brake lights are illuminated. unplugging abs remedies engine, tachometer, and gear indicator. still have no odometer, speedometer, and warning lights for brake and abs permanently illuminated.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 toyota camry. while driving 10 mph, the vehicle accelerated on its own while attempting to park. the contact stated that the brake pedal was being depressed at the time of the failure. the contact was unable to control the vehicle as it crashed into several parked vehicles. the contact sustained injuries to the hands and legs that did not require medical attention. the georgia police department filed case number: 18-067932. the police department had the vehicle towed to an unknown location. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 toyota camry. while driving 40 mph, the abs and brake warning indicators illuminated and the rpms constantly increased. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 184,293.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 toyota camry. while parking the vehicle, it accelerated to 25 mph without warning and crashed into a building. a police report was filed. the rear passenger sustained minor injuries, which required medical attention. the vehicle was towed to the dealer (harr toyota, 100 gold star blvd, worcester, ma 01606) where it was determined that the vehicle was remedied per nhtsa campaign number: 10v017000 (vehicle speed control) years ago. the dealer could not duplicate the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 119,000.

Problem description: 2009 toyota camry, brake light and abs turn on, rpm and speedometer stop working intermittently, and a/c also seems to work intermittently. it is the same issue shown here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdtgabjrfds it is dangerous because you have intermittent use of your dashboard sensors. the dealership wants to replace the entire abs hydraulic system for the cost of $3000. this seems to be a well documented problem.

We have an intermittent reoccurring issue when vehicle us driven before full warm-up (10 minutes or longer). the issue is when accelerating from a zero rpm (stop light) scenario, the vehicles rpms go up high, but the the car moves very slowly. as if it's not in sync with the gas pedal when being pressed. transmission failure has been tested and not noted. due to the intermittent nature of the problem, we have taken drastic measures, such as installing a remote start to bring vehicle to temperature before driving. this could be extremely dangerous if the cut out of the acceleration happens when merging onto a highway or causing rear impact to unsuspecting drivers. car has been inspected at local dealer, where they were not able to replicate the issue, but i want this documented shall any accident ever occur due to speed control failure.

While driving at various speeds the speedometer goes to 0 even though the car is still performing and accelerating. the abs light comes on and the dealer said that the abs actuator needs to be replaced. it seems like this is a known issue especially with the hybrid model and should be recalled and repaired by toyota

11/01/2015 @ 10:05am on maryland route 29 north, route 40 exit. car speed around 30 mph - slowly exiting on ramp. suddenly, four distinct beeps were heard and car accelerated without warning. lost steering and control over speed - car zig/zagged. stepped on brake as hard as i could - car eventually came to a stop. road condition was slightly damp after light rain. luckily, no other car was around. taking the vehicle to trusted mechanic to have it evaluated for safety concerns.

Steering wheel started vibrating on reaching the speed of 60 mph. it was more prominent while driving straight while it was not as much while negotiating the bends. however, no vibration was felt at slower speeds. i have got both front and rear rotors and break pads changed recently, all wheels have been balanced and alignment done. i wonder if the manufacturer would take care to identify the cause and recommend remedy.

Re 2009 toyota camry le with 62,100 miles; assembled in either georgetown ky, lafayette or indiana: the brake actuator assembly failed, resulting in the illumination of various warning lights and the "rpms started bouncing communication code u0073," according to the dealership. in a 2012 and 2013 recall for different toyota vehicles, the record about this same failure states "(a)n electrical component within the actuator may experience an increased resistance resulting in the illumination of various warning lights, including those for the vehicle stability control (vsc) system, antilock brake system (abs), and traction control system...[meaning] these systems could become inoperative, reducing the directional control assistance, increasing the risk of a crash." *tr

Check vsc system and check engine lights came on. pulled up to a stop sign going 25mph and had decreased brake function. had to push brake pedal very hard to get the car to stop. brakes functioned normally after that but lights are still on. *tr

About a month ago i was driving along and the radio got really loud for no reason for 10 seconds and then subsided. i didn't think much of this at the time, but after wednesday, i now believe it must have been related somehow. i was sitting off-road waiting for traffic to pass by in order to turn-around and begin driving south. i had just turned on the car and turned the steering wheel in order to make my approximate 175 degree turn. my foot was on the brake and the car ready to move. all of a sudden the engine revved up and the car tried lurching forward as though someone's foot was on the accelerator. i had to reassert my foot pressure on the brake in order to keep the car from moving. my foot had not left the brake, there was no person or thing trying to accelerate the car, it just occurred. the news about faulty accelerators entered my mind. there has not been any further incident at this time. *tr

When entering my garage, the car automatically accelerated crashing through the back wall of the garage. i applied the brake but they didn't appear to work as the car was accelerating too fast. the car finally came a stop in the backyard against a fence post that was in concrete. *tr

I was pulling out on to the highway at a very slow speed when my accelerator stuck all of the way down to the floor. there was a jeep next to me and he had to pull into the outside lane to avoid a collision with me. the car has been accelerating and then slowing down on its own as i am driving down the highway. the rpm's increase and the go back to the normal reading when i am driving down the road. you can hear the engine rev up higher and then go back to the original reading. *tr

I have a toyota camry 2009. my car went through the recall services, toyota had for the acceleration problems through one of their dealers. however, on 02/08/2013, i was involved in an accident, wherein i felt this problem myself. on a busy road i may have been driving between 35-40 mph, when all of a sudden, when i applied brakes, my car wouldn't stop but accelerated to maybe double the speed and hit the car in front of me. it appeared as if there are no brakes in the car.the impact was so severe, that i am still nervous and shaken up with the incident. the person driving the car i hit, thought i was speeding. but it definitely was the acceleration problem. this problem has not yet resolved and could lead to many more accidents. i have reported this problem to toyota dealership and on their suggestion to the toyota customer experience team. i was extremely lucky, that there were no physical injuries in the accident, but it could have been fatal. *tr

While backing out of my garage unto the driveway and then into the street, it caused a unintended acceleration while driving in reverse, causing almost a 90 degree spin and i had to slam on the brakes for it to finally stop. this happened once on 4/18/12 and then again the exact same thing happened again on 6/8/2012. the first time it happened i thought it was something i did and then when it happened again i knew that "something was really wrong" and when i realized the danger over that weekend i parked the car in my garage and have not driven it since. now i am hearing of car door panels catching on fire for 2007-2009 camrys...i will not even drive this car, it will be towed to the dealership this week. i will not be killed or kill someone waiting for something happen. i will never buy another toyota product again. *tr

On december 4, 2011, with my wife and returning from a visit to our children, i was driving our 2009 camry east from brooklyn in the left lane about a mile onto the jackie robinson parkway at about 4:30 p.m., visibility very good and road dry. traffic was heavy but moving about 35-40 m.p.h. when it slowed a little in front of me i put on the brake-- but the car speeded up. i repeated the braking and the car speeded up even more. these two attempted braking occurred in about 5 seconds. i saw we would crash into the car ahead. i tried to steer mainly into the space between that car and the one in the right lane so as to minimize damage to them, but the car in front of me went a little faster. our car, having hit the right-lane car in its left rear, went past that car and into the opened-up space and the shoulder, and into an about three-plus-foot concrete retaining wall, hitting it at an angle with the right front of our car, which mounted the wall on our right-hand wheels and came to a stop there. air bags had not deployed but tensioned seatbelts hit us hard in the chests. we managed to get my door open and get out. the car was totaled, with about 12,000 miles on it, always carefully maintained. i would add that when toyota recalled the car in 2010 i brought it in for the adjustments and was interested to learn from the mechanic at the dealership that the adjustments would take awhile because they required modifications to the car's computer. also, i as well as my wife have been driving, each of us for nearly 50 years, with exemplary records, and neither of us has ever pressed the gas pedal when we meant to step on the brakes. we are writing to you in the hope that still other toyota customers will not have to suffer the upset that we still feel, or of course worse. (i sent this to you via pdf earlier today.) *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2009 toyota camry. the contact stated that she was experiencing problems with her vehicle after nhtsa recall campaign id number: 10v017000, vehicle speed control accelerator pedal was repaired. the vehicle would accelerate sporadically, the brake pedal and the entire vehicle vibrated while at a stop sign. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the failure was normal. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 35,000.

Prior to these incidents, the vehicle was checked by the dealer on their recall. i was traveling on a 2 lane highway at 60 mph with the cruise control on. i approached a slight incline in the road and the transmission downshifted as normal. tachometer went from 2000 rpm to 3000 rpm. then suddenly there was a sudden uncontrollable acceleration in which the engine revved up to 4500 rpm and the engine was screaming as though it was about to blow apart. my foot was not in contact with the accelerator pedal. the floor mat had been removed per the dealer instructions. i immediately put my foot on the brake pedal which stopped the sudden acceleration. if this had been on a wet highway or in traffic there would surely have been an accident. this same incident has occurred 4 times within the last 6 months. i took the vehicle back to the dealer and they reported that there was nothing wrong and they could not replicate the problem. after several conversations with toyota, they said that they will make a record of my incidents but, toyota will do nothing to fix the problem. this had to have been caused by the cruise control system or the computer/software controlling it.

On the morning of oct 22 '10 , i was on my way to work when suddenly my 2009 toyota camry accelerated, i tried applying the brakes, however to no avail.. i tried to steer the car out of the way due to it was a busy intersection ..it finally came to a stop when it crashed head on into a vehicle ( after crashing into 2 more on the way), the airbags never deployed, also note that i had taking it a few months back for the recall; i was bruised , however the mental scars which are the worse, cannot be seen, constantly thinking of what could have been, i'm reporting this incident because even though i would never want anyone to go thru what i went thru, unfortunately it will continue to happen if nothing is done about it, i am urging the nhtsa and any other entities that have the power, to keep the roads & the public safe, this is an urgent matter and hopefully something drastic can be done before we lose more lives. *tr
