Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) i own a 2004 toyota camry vin#[xxx] on january 6, 2010 i was driving up first ave in manhattan going to randalls island. at 1st ave and about 10 st i was driving about 20 miles per hour, pressed the brake approaching a red light. instead the engine revved (vroom) and car accelerated forward. i floored the brake and pulled up the emergency brake and still i tapped the commercial vehicle in front before being able to stop by putting car into park. 2 hours later i was returning home and driving down 9th street between broadway and university and again approaching a red light braked to slow down the car (i was already going 20mph) again, instead the vehicle revved and accelerated forward and this time no matter how hard i pushed the brake the car wouldn't stop. i slammed the transmission into park , pulled up the emergency brake and that stopped the car. i called aaa and had the car towed to toyota of manhattan where they said my brake pins were frozen and there was a throttle problem and charged $1300 for repair. (my personal mechanic in nj later told me brake pins and uncontrolled acceleration were not related. on monday february 22, 2010 while driving to my summer apartment in ventnor nj the same thing happened. we were again able to stop the car by pulling into park mode and emergency brake. we restarted the car and drove 10 miles per hour to our parking lot where the car still sits. calls to toyota of manhattan simply stated that this model was not under recall and the car was too far for them to send a tow. attempts to bring the car to a local toyota (shore toyota) calls were not answered and i was told i could not bring the car in without an appointment. and i should bring the car back to where the repair was done. so there it sits in a parking lot. i had to rent a car to get home. the repair was clearly bogus and this problem is acceleration upon hitting the brake pedal. *tr updated ivoq 09/01/10

On april 02, 2007 i had a car accident. i was driving my 2004 toyota camry le door sedan. as i was driving to my way to arizona to visit some family members i was driving in a normal speed out of the sudden the pedal of the accelerator did not work i tried to control my car but it was impossible to stopped the car. as consequence the car flip over and i got injured. on the same week of april 02. 2007 i had taken my csr to a toyota dealer to do a full service. on april second a toyota dealer associates called me but i was not there so my mom answered the phone and the representative from toyota had called to see how my brakes were working. *tr

While driving in heavy rain a/c button started flashing and all windows fogged up. i took it to the dealership 3-31-07, they performed diagnosis and replaced a/c magnetic clutch relay. next heavy rain on april 14, 2007, the ac/button started flashing and all windows fogged up. i took the car to the dealership and they found the clutch assembly shorting when wet. replaced clutch assembly. in august, during a heavy rain, the a/c button started flashing and all windows fogged up. i took the car to the dealership and they said the a/c belt was not tight. they tighten the a/c belt and said if it happened again, the belt would have to be replaced. today, october 15, 2007, the same thing happened. i haven't taken it to the dealership because i don't think they can fix the problem. *tr

This incident involves changing a flat tire (front passenger side) on my 2004 toyota camry. this was the first time i have had to change a tire since i bought this vehicle new in 2004. i loosened the lug nuts slightly and then placed the jack under the car as indicated in the owner's manual. as i started to raise the car, i noticed that the jack was twisting under the weight of the vehicle. i then lowered the vehicle, repositioned the jack and tried again. the jack appeared to be slightly twisted but not as much as the first attempt. i removed the lug nuts and took off the flat tire. at this time the jack fell over and the car came to rest on the wheel rotor. the car was on level ground during this incident. my feeling is that this jack is not sufficiently designed to lift a vehicle of this weight and could cause serious personal injury and/or property damage under some circumstances. *jb

While parking his 2004 toyota camry the vehicle accelerated suddenly and hit a parked car. *nm when turning sharply to the right the vehicle felt as if it were going to flip, shifting gears were not smooth, the brake pedal felt soft and would go to the floor and there was an erratic effect when changing the radio stations. *sc *jb

Car started pulling to the right when travelling 65-70 mph, leading to hitting a bridge wall and going down hill after that.suspension and steering heavily damaged, also damage to the body of car. i have been driving for more than 4 years now and this is the first time that i saw a car behave so strangely. since toyota camry has so many complaints from consumers saying that the car pulls to the left, i am thinking if the car was tampered with before sale, causing it to pull to the right instead of left to keep the complaints at bay.. also while driving for the 4 months that i had the car i noticed that the steering would turn to the right when ever i braked(i should have reported this at that very moment) unfortunate that i am doing this after been an horrible accident. *ak

The security system malfunctioned. the brake pedal and gas pedal to close result in sometimes pushing both pedals at once. *bf the brake pedal was 4 3/4 inches wide and he bottom of the consumers shoes was 4 1/2 inches wide. the gas pedal was over to the center of the brake pedal. the consumer would have to shift his bottom or twist his foot inward and push down on the brake pedal because his knee would not bend sideway. *sc

The brake light came on while going down the interstate. the car was taken to a service station and the diagnosis was that the car was quickly leaking brake fluid from a brake line, and the abs actuator. after already having a final repair attempt for the same defective part, toyota had to again replace the brake line and the abs actuator. currently we are pursuing arrbitration based on the north carolina lemon law to demand the repurchase of this unsafe vehicle that continue to have defects in the braking system.*ak
