While driving at 45 mph brakes locked up, and consumer lost control, resulting in an accident. contacted dealer. *ak

2002 toyota camry. brakes have always been spongy and go to the floor. toyota service manager said it was normal. *tr

When i step on the brake pedal of my 2002 camry xle, the pedal can be depressed to such an extent that my foot also rests on the gas pedal causing the engine to rev up and the car not to stop as expected. this has occurred 3 times since i bought the car. date below is approximate. *nlm the interior rearview mirror is an auto dimming type and does not have a manual device to orient the mirror when driving at night. the consumer states the mirror does not dim sufficiently (or at all) to prevent annoying glare from the headlights of following vehicles. the mirror must be manually tilted at night causing loss of mirror use.

Dealer replaced rear wheel disc and pads because vehicle would squeak when applying brakes. feel free to provide any further information.*ak

There was a grinding sound coming from the brakes, the brake pedal would go to the floor, and it would feel as if the vehicle would not stop, the carpet had to be reglued in the trunk which would hang down, there was an interior rattle in the carpet, and the washers fell out the right rear door, the brake problem would occur on dry to normal road surfaces. scc *jb

While traveling at 40 mph consumer applied brakes and pedal went to the floor, tried emergency brake and nothing happened. consumer had to turn off engine and coast to a stop. dealer stated they can't duplicate problem. *ak

Brakes don't hold on a hill. also when you come to a stop the auto will stop then the pedal will go all the way to the floor. *tt

2002 toyota camry se v6, when you apply the brakes they will not stop the car in the same amount of distance each time. every time when the brakes are having problems, it takes twice are far to stop the car as normal. my wife and i just signed up to take an emergency vehicle operations class so that when the brakes fail again, we will be more prepared to take evasive action to avoid a wreck with our 2 children in the car. the car has been left at the dealership 10 times just for the brakes . the brakes have failed with the dealer 2 times, but they are cellulose as to the origin of the problem . the dealership is affraid to drive the car more than a few miles at a time, because they said they "do not want to wreck the car". that is my point exactly!!!! i called southeast toyota, case #200308050397, she said if the dealer can not duplicate the problem each time, that there is not a problem. se toyota told the dealer to " quit looking at the car for brake problems". that was a statement the service mgr would not give to me in writing!! it is now failing more often . i am afraid for my wife and kids to be in the car at all . i will be filing for arbitraion very soon. after this i will never drive another toyota. the customer service from toyota, on a problem as major as brakes , lacks any concern at all. i hope toyota finds the problem before anyone else gets hurt!!!!!!!!!!jw . *ak

Brake pads are squeaking, took vehicle to ford and they replaced pads and rotors.rotors were cracked. dealer replaced rotors.l currently, vehicle is squeaking again. please provide any further information.*ak

Consumer states that the abs is very sensitive causing it to be faulty.*jb

When applying brakes during normal braking procedure, there is an extended stopping distance, the pedal feels normal. this happens intermittently. vehicle has been examined 4 times by dealer, cannot find cause of problem. *akconsumer is afraid to operate the vehicle because of the extended stopping distance. toyota dealers state that the problem must be verified before any work can be done to the vehicle. no problem has been found. the dealer considers everything to be operating in its normal function. *jg

At a constant cruising speed, the automatic transmission abruptly jerks (presumably shifts) when accelerator pedal is released slightly. a clunking noise can also be heard at this time. the abs actuator also had to be replaced earlier as it was producing a clunking noise after the engine was started and the steering wheel was turned sharply at low speeds.

The problem is with both frront and back brakes. chronology of problems with brakes: when the odometer reached about 400 miles, the brakes started to squeak intermittently. on mar. 28, 2002, i brought the car to herb chambers toyota of boston service department. they found the brakes shoes were glazed up and did the repair. assured that everything was ok, i drove home. two blocks down the street, i could hear the brakes squeaking again. i immediately turned around and went back to the service dept. they found that the front brake pads needed replacement. they had to order the parts and would call me when the parts were delivered. after they notified me of the delivered parts, i brought the car in on april 4, 2002. one hour later, they told me that both rotors were cracked! again, they had to order the parts and should be able to get them the next day. meanwhile i had to get a rental to go home, which they paid for. next morning, i called them to check on the status. i was told that the parts would not come in for another week. so they planned to take rotors off from another "brand new" camry and put them on mine. the repair was finished around noon time. when i picked up the car, the service advisor reassured me that everything should be fine.after driving for a couple weeks, i started to hear squeaky brakes again. at first i thought the noise came from other cars on the road. as the squeak got louder and more frequent, i knew the noise was from my new camry. i brought it back to the service dept. on may 8, 2002. within one hour, the service advisor said they were not going to fix it, pending advice from toyota.. she did not know when they would get it but said that squeaky brakes should not be a safety issue.i do not think the dealer is taking this matter seriously. the brakes are squeaking badly. some unknown reason had caused the rotors to crack before, can anyone guarantee that it will not happen again?*ak

Brakes were mushy straight off of the new car lot. two days after buying the car i came upon a traffic light that turned red while i approached. i pressed the brake pedal, the pedal went to the floor, the car wouldn't stop and went right on through the intersection. luckily, no cars crossed the intersection when i went through it. brought the car back to the dealer . their service dept checked the car and said nothing was wrong. i had them bleed the brake system and then took the car home. after they bled the brakes, the steering wheel now vibrates when the brakes are pressed, plus the brakes are still mushy. sometimes when stopped, the brake pedal will go to the floor when pressure is applied. nlm

Abs light would stay on while driving. vehicle taken to dealer on two occasions, and were unable to duplicate the problem. *ak *jg

Brakes squealing. have been taking this issue with dealership when ever i go for service and also independently at one time. dealer does something and the brakes stop making noise for 1-2 days. after that its the same. the brakes makes such a great ear piercing noise. *jb

Brakes squeal while consumer is applying brakes.*ak

Key can be removed from ignition when car is in drive. ignition defect could cause the car to roll and strike another car or a person when unattended. the is the second serious manufacturer's defect on this car. this is the same new car that has intermittent brake failures of hydraulic abs in under 15,000, causing car to go through stops three times. please see complaint # 10018667. impossible to get manufacture to assist despite several attempts. buyer beware. *jb

While stopping on a hill, brakes went to the floor. consumer had to pump brakes for vehicle to stop. took vehicle to dealer who stated that cardboard was in disc brakes. mechanic stated that abs were suppose to go to the floor. *ak consumer states steering wheel has excessive play, no action from wheels with slight movement. *yd

Arm that holds up brake pedal is interferring with the drivers foot. driver stated if consumer had a large size foot, it could easily get wedged and stuck on brake pedal. *ak consumer states that his foot gets caught between the floormat and the brake arm, feels this needs to be redesigned. *slc

The vehicle experienced extended stopping distance.*jb

The brakes squeaked when they were applied, however the dealer did not find a problem. *jb

Brakes on the 2002 to present camrys, i have changed the whole systems out, and i keep telling tech suport that the fluid drains back into the mastercylinder from the line that loops up on non abs systems, the lines leak on the abs sysem due to under tighting. they tell us that the system was made to be soft from complaints of previous owners this is on 02 and present. i see all the below but why wait berfore someone gets killed, somthing needs to be done now. i work at a toyota dealership for 12 years now and this keeps getting shoved under the rug, the design is a defect in it self. at least do this test, drive a 02- 04 camry non abs, 2az eng 4 cyl, find a safe road, running about50- 80, slam on the brakes, to the floor they go. hope nothing is in front of you. may not do it on every one. find one that will ,then bleed them, still soft but will stop better, wait awhile then try it again, to the floor they go. sorry about the fake name and all but i woulden be working at toyota or any dearlership very long reporting somthing like this. call me a rat if you like but then say, maybe he is just thinking about me and my loved ones. please don't let this turn into a firestone thing.*ak

Front abs brakes lock on wet road conditions, causing loss of control. dealer has yet to be contacted.please provide further details.*ak

My 2002 toyota camry has braking system that does not operate properly. find every time i go to stop braking system does not stop and perform properly. find car does not perform properly in rain and snow and skids out in this type of weather. note have contacted dealership along with manufacturer to notify them of my complaint with no avail. *ph

Spring assembly attached to l side of brake pedal arm protrudes forward above rubber pedal area. if a driver with size 11 shoes presses the pedal slightly left-of-center, his toes will hit the protrusion, making it impossible to fully depress the pedal.

Consumer stated the brake pedal goes to the floor before the vehicle stops, incident happened several times, in which the vehicle had stopped in the middle of the intersection. (very unsafe) the dealer blames it on the design. *scc *jb

When applying brake pedal goes almost to the floor before there is any braking action. brake pedal feels spongy, extended stopping distance. vehicle has been taken to dealer numerous times, claims this is normal for vehicle.*ak

At any speed brake pedal is really mushy, and one time it went to the floor, vehicle eventually stopped on its own.*ak

Starting the first week ihad the vehicle the brakes were "not right" and seemed to malfunction intermittently about every two days until i finally went through an intersection and was unable to stop. the dealer calims it's the abs but i've driven abs vehicles for the last 5 yrs without experiencing this. the service dept was able to duplicate the problem once and still claims there is nothing wrong w/ the car. i am afraid to drive the vehicle and have written a complaint to toyota corporate who claims therte has been no other complaints of this nature. *ak
