Vsc lights plus all warning lights come on. bell sounds and brakes essentially fail. toyota quoted $2800.00. this issue was reported prior to my extended warranty expiring however the issue was not diagnosed by toyota until after expiration of the warranty. this is a very dangerous issue that should be corrected free of charge. *tr

While driving at about 40mph, the brake light and "check vsc system" and "abs" warning lights all came on simultaneously. the brakes were very stiff and difficult to engage as i tried to stop for a traffic light coming up. i had to literally stand on the brakes to avoid colliding with the car in front of me. it was very scary! i turned around and drove straight home, but all lights went off and the brakes returned to normal. i could not duplicate the problem and we dismissed it as a fluke. then it happened a week later. this time the warning lights were on when i started the car at home. the brakes then reengaged while i was backing out of my driveway. as i put the car in reverse, i heard a loud bang/thunk. i thought i hit something but there was nothing there when i got out to look. that's when i noticed all warning lights had gone out and my brakes were normal again. i took my car to liberty toyota in colorado springs where they ran a diagnostic and said i needed a new brake switch, which cost me $180. three weeks later the same problem was back with the warning lights coming on intermittently. i learned to drive with manual brakes for a few weeks and to just go much slower because i needed my car. i noticed the same loud clunking sound any time the brakes would reengage (usually when i was idling or going very slowly, getting ready to accelerate) and the warning lights would go out. i took my car back to toyota yesterday and now they tell me that it's probably the actuator, which will cost me about $3,000! plus my "check hybrid system" warning light came on and they said that one cell in my battery is bad. i need a new battery, which runs $4,000! what a headache! *tr

Brake alert lights appeared on dash on night of 9/5/14 upon starting the vehicle. read codes in owner's manual, and drove few blocks to home at slow speed (15 mph). on saturday morning, 9/6/14, the incident occurred again when i was driving at about 25-30 miles per hour. not only did the alert lights appear, but the brakes "bled" through to the floor, and it felt as if the car accelerated. brakes worked only after pumping the brake pedal. i had the vehicle towed to service center. after diagnostics and driving for 90 miles over 4 days, the incident could not be replicated, nor did any codes appear on the computer. vehicle was released after paying diagnostic fees. the incident occurred again on 10/2/14: brake lights appeared on dash, the car felt it was accelerating, and the brakes failed temporarily. my foot bled through, i pumped the pedal before brakes began to work. the vehicle was towed to dealership. again, diagnostics did not reveal codes nor was the incident able to be replicated. dealership replaced the brake fluid reservoir according to toyota corporate directions. found info online that nhtsa cited 59 complaints of brake failure for 2007-08 camry hybrids. reported these incidents to toyota corporate, who assigned a case no. have not heard from corporate case mgr. yet, but expect to by monday, 10/06/14. corporate said they do not offer a loaner vehicle while this is being addressed, but to ask dealership. dealership said they could not provide a loaner vehicle. *tr

After starting the vehicle and putting it in drive, i take my foot off the brake and the car lurches forward several yards, a bunch of warning lights flash on and the "check vsc system" message comes up (only on this last time). the brakes do not respond and steering is very difficult. then after a few seconds, all the warning lights go off and everything is fine. this has happened 4 times. i'm grateful it's only occurred in parking lots but after reading about this happening to others, i'm very afraid this will happen at higher speeds. the dealership can't replicate my experience so they say everything is fine. when i ask about actuator issues that others have had, they deny any knowledge of a problem. *tr

The "check vsc system" light came on as well as the parking brake symbol, tire stability symbol, etc. the brake pressure has been reduced. i took it to the dealership and they said i have to replace the abs actuator with a cost of $3300 plus. *tr

While driving home, four lights lit up on my dashboard and the check vsc system warning appeared as well. there was nothing noticeable that happened so i drove on to the house. only thing i noticed the next morning was that the brake pedal kicked back towards me when i started the car. brakes appeared to work fine. took the car into my toyota dealer (where i purchased it new in november of 2006). they checked it and found out that the abs actuator needed to be replaced. price for the part was $2500. labor was $118. car was fixed in two days. fortunately i had an extended warranty that covered all but $100 so i felt very lucky. my main intention on submitting this is to find out why toyota hasn't issued a recall on this part. i've read (in the toyotanation forum online) about many drivers who have had this problem at less than 65,000 miles; mine occurred at 82,600 miles. and the price of the part is astonishing. so my personal experience was fine. i didn't notice any braking issues but would like to submit this as another owner who experienced this same issue. expensive for many, but i was lucky to have the warranty. ...updated 08/16/13 *bf *tr

While driving, the vsc light, check engine light , brake light, and another light all came on. no apparent problems at operating speed, but at lower speeds i can feel pulsating in the brakes and on low speed turns the steering wheel pulsates a little. i am concerned that the brakes will fail. repair estimate from the dealer is far more than we can afford. my research indicates that this is a common problem with the camry hybrid. i believe this deserves a recall. *tr

All of the warning lights came on, then up came check vsc system. looked it up in the auto manual. sunday, holiday weekend. on the way home, stopped into auto zone, plugged in a computer diagnostic, code c1391 comes up. went home investigated online, found that this is common with many camry hybrids,. not being recalled. big money and big safety issue here. costing consumers thousands of dollars, my first day out with this as this just happened with me at 9 am today. http://www.checkvscsystem.com http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/105-camry-hybrid/401450-2007-tch-check-vsc-system-code-c1391.html. *tr...updated 07-29-13 *bf.... updated 08/01/13 *bf

After hearing lots of noises from the brake accumulator for months, the brakes failed while driving. check vsc warning, brake lights, abs warning, and other brake related warning lights came on. during braking the brakes released, and quite excessive pressure was required to stop the car and avoid a crash. testing the system showed fault code c1391 (abnormal leak of accumulator pressure). i cleared the fault, but the next day the problem reappeared. we had the system bled, but once again the problem reappeared. braking action intermittent with brakes releasing at times, and at other times locking up. a very unsafe proposition. the entire system had to be replaced at a cost in excess of $3,000. this is 10% of the cost of the car for a problem that is obviously a widespread safety issue for this vehicle based on the number of complaints filed. i cannot imagine that this has not or will not lead to fatal accidents. *tr

i was driving at approximately 20 miles per hour and coming to a stop when the vsc warning light , brake warning light, and tire pressure warning lights came on. the light remained on after restarting the engine and the brake pedal became more resistant to braking. the problem in my car actually began months before the warning lights came on and was not correctly diagnosed at the dealership. early signs were excessive clicking sounds coming from the brake actuator assembly on the right front area of the engine compartment, and an intermittent hydraulic sound when the brake pedal was kept depressed. after the repair i found that this problem is common on the 2007 camry hybrid. the repair involved replacement of the brake actuator assembly and was extremely expensive. *tr ....updated 08/01/13 *bf there seemed to be a delay in stopping the vehicle after the warning lights came on. prior to that, the consumer heard clicking sounds. however, before the warning lights came on, the stopping seemed normal.

While driving on a busy highway at 70mph, the vsc check system, abs, hazards, and warning lights came on. i had to pull over to the median to avoid hitting the car in front of me. the car gradually came to a stop, and i had it towed to a dealer. it was diagnosed as the abs actuator, and their estimate to replace it was $3400. this is a serious safety concern. i called toyota corporate and they would not help pay for the repair. *tr

As i was approaching a pedestrian crossing, the abs light and check vsc light and brake light went on in my camry hybrid. when i tried to apply brakes to stop, i realized that the brakes completely failed. i did a sharp evasive turn and hit the curb hard in attempt not to run over pedestrians in the crossing! the lights subsequently disappeared and brakes resumed their normal function after a few minutes. the issue of brakes failing is intermittent and happened subsequently several times at various speeds. when taken to the dealer at first i was told there were no codes registered in the computer and the brakes operate standard. when i insisted after approximately 7 hours of testing the dealer told me the problem is with the brake control unit (computer). after researching online i discovered its a widespread problem!!! and yet toyota is behaving immoral not recalling the faulty parts that in many cases can not even be diagnosed. moreover they do not even admit that there's an issue! *tr updated 8/22/13 *cn

The vehicle's warning lights came on and the warning "check vsc system" came on. the brakes discontinued working properly and had to be pressed very hard to make the vehicle stop. now, the lights stay on and two different toyota dealerships have written that the brake actuator system is faulty and needs to be replaced at cost of $3,000. in checking further, i found that other toyota camry hybrid owners of the same vehicle and year (2007) have had the same problem and that the nhtsa is investigating according to an los angeles times article published january 27, 2014. i would like to add my name to the list of complainants. i have contacted toyota and they are not taking responsibility for repairing this part when it is obviously a vehicle defect affecting possibly 30,000 camry hybrids. *tr

While driving and stopping, all the engine lights and "check vsc" came on and it appeared that my brakes failed. it was as if my car shut completely off; however, it was still on and i had manual brakes that i had to push very hard to use. this is intermittent and has occurred about 6 times in total. it has been serviced 3 times regarding this incident, one of which they just let me go and said they couldn't figure it out. the last time they determined they "think" it is the brake actuator. after doing my own research on line, it appears there are many others who have had this same issue. it appears the part has been faulty for some time and i was unaware of it. it has been making noises for several years that i thought were normal; but i guess they were not. i believe mine has taken so long to finally fail because most of the life of the car has been driven on the freeway with little breaking. while my car is out of warranty, i do not feel i should have to pay for a part that 1) shouldn't be failing at this juncture and 2) has apparently been in the process of failing while my car was in warranty. it's like a heart attack...you don't know you have a problem until the failure occurs. i've almost crashed into people and i've read other accounts where they have. i believe toyota should recall these parts! note i've also received service faithfully during the life of the car. *tr

While driving my wife's 2007 toyota camry hybrid the "check vsc system" warning came on. power brake system turned off and the car became difficult to stop. i pulled over and tried to reset the error by turning the car off then on again a few times. still no luck. i felt i could get it to the dealer a couple miles away since the streets i used weren't highly trafficked. was told by the dealer that the vsc computer had failed and that it was a $2200 repair. i did a quick search: http://bit.ly/vj77m5 and found this thread of this issue being a somewhat common issue and seems to be a safety concern but now recall: http://bit.ly/xamkaa. *tr updated 7/31/13 *cn the brake pedal had to be depressed almost to the floor, to stop the vehicle. however it would stop completely without slowing down. when traveling above 25 mph, it would take longer to stop.

The vsc light appeared & the car lost brakes. like others, i have experienced failure of the brake actuator / boost accumulator. although the brakes work to a degree, there is no boost. despite application of my maximum effort to depress the brake pedal, stopping distances are very long and stopping speeds are very slow. i consider the car dangerous to drive & has been shelved pending nhtsa review. reports are that toyota has known of this problem & has refused to address it nhtsa should require that toyota replace this part at no cost to the consumer in view of toyotas unconscionable behavior. *tr

Brakes went to the floor and i coasted to a stop. i held my foot on the brake pedal to the floor. it was a light rain on a concrete road. the dash board lite up with a warning check vsc system. it only happen that one time. as i drove off after the event, i heard an unfamiliar sound and i cautiously drove home. the brake pedal was working normal again. the dash board warning sign went out as i took my foot off the brake and proceeded forward. since that one event i have never had another incident. in the usa today on 1/28/14 i read the article about the power-assist brakes in 2007 & 2008 camry hybrids. after discussing the article with my family (who also have the same vehicle); they reported no such incident. on their advise, i took my car to my toyota dealer and they were not able to detect or duplicate the same braking event. it was test driven and computer system checked. it's in my car history and the dealer asked me to notify you for reference. *tr

On 12/11/12 i was on the highway and the check vsc system light came on with the abs lights, master warning, brake lights, and others. the brakes were hard to depress. luckily there was no traffic that morning or else i would have caused an accident. i pulled off the road and shut the car down. i restarted the car and the lights were off and it was drivable again. i immediately called the dealership and brought the car in. they told me they were not able to retrieve a trouble code except for battery voltage. they replace a battery that cost me $511. that did not fix the problem. on 12/22/12 the problem occurred again and i rolled into an intersection because i was not able to depress the brakes all the way. once again, luckily there were no cars in the intersection. brought it to the dealership and was told once again they were not able to retrieve a trouble code. from that time on i tried replacing tires because the master mechanic told me it my be the different ware on my tires, still no relief. from 2012 to yesterday the warnings appeared. there was the same ticking and squeaking sound that was originally reported. the light were on constantly and the breaking system was still difficult to depress. i had to make sure i rented a when driving long distances and to leave plenty of room while driving to ensure safe distance for my faulty braking system. so, it was fixed with $2000 to replace the brake actuator system by a different dealership. now my car sounds normal and drives normal again. i believe that if so many people are having the same safety problem there should be a recall. luckily i was never involved in a collision or fatality but i could definitely see it happening. *tr

My 2007 toyota camry hybrid began to consistently make noises as i depressed the brake pedal (with the vehicle in the stopped position) for a few months before the vsc system failed. luckily, the failure occurred as i was backing out of the driveway and was able to stop. i had the vehicle towed to the dealer and proceeded to pay $2200 to have the abs actuator replaced. i have another 2007 toyota camry hybrid with just over 60,000 miles and it is beginning to make the same brake noise as the other vehicle. the dealer has said it is not a problem. i can only hope that when the brakes go out again i will not be traveling at a high rate of speed, or negotiating the mountain roads i use to commute daily. i heard yesterday on the news that this problem is being investigated. i hope they recall this vehicle soon and have this repaired before anyone is killed or injured. *tr

The"check vsc system" sensor came on while i was driving. i was doing approximately 45 mph on the road. the road conditions were good and i keep up with maintenance. the abs failure light, brake and warning icons. i have it checked out and i'm told by toyota car's abs accumulator system and water pump must be replaced and that they hadn't have such issues before. after much research, this is a common complaint among toyota camry hybrid owners. this seems to be a design flaw and worse, my break pads and tires are brand new. this shouldn't be an issue but breaks pulsate and makes the vehicle unsafe as you can't control breaks when needed, especially, while parked on a inclined position. i am very concerned for my safety and the safety of others if my breaks were to fail because toyota has failed to recognize this as a vital recall repair. without brakes you can kill or injure someone and that bad water pump can cause your engine to overheat. please look into this and have toyota take responsibility for this situation! *tr

While my wife was driving the car a warning ("check vsc system") appeared in the status screen and about a minute after, another message appeared ("check hybrid system"). then, the car stopped running. the impulse allowed for driving the car to the road side. tried to power it back without success. it was required to tow the car home and then to the dealership for diagnostic. prior this incident there were no previous warnings or signs. update: today received communication from the dealership that diagnostic test confirmed that the problem was the hybrid system inverter module and that has to be replaced. *tr

Vsc system, check engine, and emergency brake lights come on at the same time the brakes stopped working properly. i was braking and the brake peddle pushed back at me, releasing the brakes. when i continued to depress the brakes, the usual resistance and braking power was gone. i had to press down as hard as i could to get the car to stop. this is intermittent and tends to happen when the car is cold. dealership could not discover a problem as the computer did not record an error. internet research indicated other toyota hybrid owners experienced the same problem and determined the cause was the stroke sensor. when i returned the vehicle to a different dealership, they insisted i change the tires. the problem continues to occur. *tr updated 07/30/13*lj updated 8/22/13 *cn

While driving on the freeway, the brake failure light came up and the brakes became ineffective. as i was driving, the brakes went soft to the floor, and then all of a sudden engaged. it brake so hard, it felt like a hit something. a few days later, the brake light, traction/stability control (vsc) and abs lights turned on, and check vsc system displayed. i took it to toyota dealer and they diagnosed the problem as abs actuator failure and malfunctioning of the rear brakes. i contacted toyota about the failure and they claimed that my situation was one of a kind and there was not pattern of similar failures for this model. after prolonged arguments with toyota and the dealership, i could not get them to address the problem under the 100,000 miles warranty for the hybrid components of the car. i had to pay over $3,000 to get the car repaired. today, i found out (through consumer reports forums) that there are other owners of this car that have faced exactly the same problem, indicating that this is not an isolated problem and needs to be investigated by nhtsa before someone is seriously injured or loses life. *tr

On august 10, 2012, i was driving my toyota camry hybrid 2007 on the freeway at 55 mph and it started slow down. i pulled over to the emergency lane and the engine shut down. the dashboard indicated to check "vsc hybrid system." sandag towed me off the highway for safety. next, i had the car towed to chula vista toyota. the service department said that it was under warranty and would be repaired at no cost. a few days later, the service department stated that the inverter needs to be replaced and would cost more than $6000 dollars. i purchased the car less than six months ago, but was denied warranty coverage under the used certified vehicle warranty. the warranty states that the car is covered for 12 months / 12,000 miles from the date of purchase. *tr

'check vsc system' along with brake light warning, abs warning, and pretty much every other warning light possible came on my 2007 camry hybrid around june of 2012. i hear pulsating under the hood constantly & when i turn on my car while in park with my foot on brake my car will begin to roll backwards by itself, i attempt to pump the breaks but it never works. i have to wait about 5-10 sec like there is a delay with my brake system when i first turn on my car. once the brakes finally kick in my car will either jolt in very drastic way like i slammed on my brakes even though my foot has been on the brakes the whole time or it will throttle back on its own like i'm pushing on the gas. i will never park on a hill in fear of my car just taking off on its own with no brakes to stop it. i have to literally turn on my car and wait for my breaks to kick in before i can reverse. it is very scary! it has happened to me once as well when i was driving and i coming to a stop, my brakes just went out and kicked back in on its own. i brought my car to a toyota dealership to have them check it out. they brought back a quote of $5,900! instead of trying one thing at a time they just wanted to replace everything at once. my car was right at the 5 year warranty mark but because i bought my car in guam they couldn't tell if my car was still under warranty and i would have to pay out of pocket. 2007 only 45000 miles with a 6 thousand dollar repair! that is insane let alone it is a hybrid feature & a safety issue! to me this should be covered under warranty no matter what! look online you can see hundreds of people complaining about this exact issue! people have even made websites for it! i'm very disappointed in toyota. i'm stuck with this car that i cant afford to fix! so i drive every day in what seems to me like a death trap! it's just not right. *tr

The check vsc system display came on with all the brake lights. basically the dash board lights up and with every warning light. a message on your display says "check vsc system". when you look it up in your manual it says - call toyota dealer right away. i was quoted an abs accumulator replacement at the cost of $3k. the car was under 6 year 75,000 extended warranty so every service and check was performed. when i reported flaky brake behavior (pulsing at a standstill and with the pulsating noises - it's like you are braking when you are idling) @ 78k toyota said nothing was wrong with my brakes. if a diagnostic code isn't appearing they can't really tell you have an issue. the car was just out of extended warranty. first thing i did was call the dealer service department. i was told it might just be the sensors and i could still drive it. i didn't listen to them and i'm glad - something just seemed very wrong with that advice - after all the brakes just seemed to be pulsing all the time and the car didn't brake the same way. pressing on the brake was very difficult - the brakes were basically operating manually with no power assist. there was no way i could ever stop quickly with brakes in this condition. i was also leaking brake fluid. we spoke to toyota in california and reported the problem. toyota said they wouldn't cover the part. the dealer said others had come in with the same problem so they knew it existed. we had a long discussion with the dealer manager. the real problem is at that time - the replacement part was the same part we had - so we had no choice but to take the same part with the same known problem. *tr

For the record / now repaired: persistent but sporadic delayed braking including noise and "check vsc system" warning light. finally replaced abs assembly and brake master reservoir under extended warranty ($2285.70). problem existed for over 6 months prior to resolution. multiple keys toyota, hamer toyota and independent auto repair inspections prior plus complaints to regional toyota service/complaint center. most of above documented with pictures of warning light. initially told no action could be taken unless problem could be duplicated at time of inspection. pictures of warning light were discounted. i presented internet complaints of same issue by others but disregarded as evidence by toyota. *tr

Brakes fail when the "check vsc system" warning comes on along with other lights for tire pressure and brake light. at first the problem was intermittent and the brakes would work when the lights went out, but now the lights are on all of the time and the brakes work like manual brakes at times. the abs system does not work so driving on wet roads is dangerous. i feel there is a direct danger to my life and the public's safety when this vehicle is on the road. unfortunately, i do not have another vehicle that i can drive at the moment. *tr

My '07 camry hybrid(ch) has started to experience brake failure while driving. the first documented incident: 03/09/12. w/o warning, the ch will shut down and the "check vsc" light appears on the dash. all of the dash lights light up as well. when this happened, there were no brakes, no warning, etc. when i put the car in "park", turned off the vehicle and restarted it, i was able to resume driving. i took it to dealer to have the car diagnosed. the diagnosis: nothing wrong with the car, brakes, etc(inv.#227594). over the past 9 months, it has occurred a few more times, usually when the vehicle is pulling out of the garage. when it happens,i turn off the vehicle, restart and go on. on 10/30/12 while my wife was driving 35mph, the car shut down, the "check vsc" light came on and the brakes completely failed. she caught a left turn signal and coasted into a parking lot. obviously this was horrifying for her and our kids. i called aaa and had the car towed to toyota. my service advisor(sa) told me they have begun to see this happening a lot and he predicted the abs brake actuator (ba) failed. i told him about the incident in march, which he acknowledged knowing of. 2 hours later he called to confirm that it was the ba. we spoke about it being a defective part, he agreed and would call and speak to toyota national(tn)to see if they could help out with the $2200 repair. the next day he told me that tn wouldn't help, and neither would the dealership. my online research discovered many ch have had this problem. i discussed with the sa that if the part is defective and they are seeing more and more of this, what guarantee is there a new ba wouldn't react the same way. he couldn't guarantee that it wouldn't. i declined to have the repair done, aaa towed vehicle to my home. the sa seemed certain that a recall was coming. the car is garaged, i have the repair est/document. *tr updated 07/30/13*lj

Minutes after leaving home while traveling 10 mph in the neighborhood, all of the warning lights on the dash illuminated - brake, vsc, tire, etc. the car lost acceleration, the steering became "gummy", and the brakes became "mushy". it took constant, complete depression of the brake pedal to stop the car over a length of about 25 feet. i took the car to 355 toyota in rockville, md where it was hooked to a computer, but no problem was detected. the problem occurred a second and third time, once minutes after startup and once while traveling at 30 mph not far from my destination, thankfully. after parking the car for 2 hours, the car drove normally. the fourth time this problem occurred, i had just left the capital beltway and was in the process of braking in order to safely round a cloverleaf onto river road. the brakes were barely responsive, and i narrowly missed crashing into the cars in front of me. i took the car back to 355 toyota on december 27. the car was kept for 24 hours. the mechanics could find nothing wrong with it. i was told this was the very first time a problem such as mine has been reported to 355 toyota. a google query proved that this problem is more pervasive than the dealership knows or is willing to admit knowing. *tr updated 7/31/13 *cn the consumer experienced another episode and the vehicle was left at the dealer, where the tech experienced the problem himself. the technician added brake fluid. since the brake fluid was added, the vehicle has performed perfectly.

Driving on the road, everything was normal, then my entire dashboard lights up with all the warning signs. the internal car displays vsc maintenance required, and i'm thinking i didn't do anything. i just got the car this year. there shouldn't be a problem like this. the brakes were very hard to press down on to even brake. i fee like the brakes just stopped working or the brake itself would let me brake as normal. little shocked because i'd had crash into the driver in front of me. i started to drive very slow. then the lights and warning signs went away, and my brakes were back to normal. i felt like it was just a computer glitch and started to drive normally again. after i did, the car again went off with the warning signs on the dashboard and the vsc display was on again stating maintenance was required one again. so i started to drive slow once again. went to a repair shop they said my brakes were good, and that the car probably needed to get it check because of the hybrid system. this only happen during the summer. during the winter it goes off, to which i still felt like it was a computer glitch. went to the dealer recently and they said that my accumulator needs to be replace. i asked how does something like this occur. the mechanic stated somewhere in the lines of it's a man made part so it's can happen from time to time. but in my opinion, if i did everything like i was suppose to do, this should not happen. the total repair for the part is $1892! that's with labor included! seriously, why does a part that is so important to the car that expensive?! and why doesn't toyota report on this technical issue for their cars? *tr

Parked the auto, was in a meeting for 45 min. started the auto and "check vsc system" warning came on. tried driving and brakes were erratic, took to dealer, they said that they had to reprogram the computer because i had done something to the battery. not true. but it seemed that the problem was corrected as it performed ok. on may 29, 2014 i backed the car out of our garage and parked it on the street, about one hour later i started it to return it to the garage and the "check vsc system" came on and the brakes were very erratic. i then took the vehicle to the closest dealer and they checked it and informed me that the brake control computer needed to be replaced at accost of nearly $2000.00. as this appears to be a safety issue i feel that toyota should have recalled the vehicle and replaced the defective parts under a recall program. i feel very fortunate that the brake control computer did not fail while the car was moving. *tr

We own a 2007 camry hybrid. about noon central time today, my wife was attempting to park the car at a local gym. as she slowly turned into the parking position, the engine raced very fast and the car lurched forward past the endline of the parking position and stopped after jumping over the cement barrier. she described stepping on the brake and the car did stop but unfortunately not until it had gone well past the endline for the parking position. *tr

On april 17, 2010 i was driving my 2007 camry hybrid. when i tried to apply my brakes, the brakes would not work. when i pushed the pedal more, the car locked down. i looked at the information center on the dash and it had a warning "check vsc system." i immediately took the car to the toyota dealership in spartanburg, sc. the gave me a rental and told me they had to do further diagnostics. after 12 days, my car is ready but they can give me no reason why the system failed. they replaced a sensor, but told me this issue never happens. i called toyota and they are not helping me with this matter at all. i am afraid to drive the car. i could have crashed. my daughter used the car about a month ago on a trip and she would have crashed if this had happened. *tr

Had accident with '07 camry hybrid. recalls done 5 days previously. applied brake to stop at light. car accelerated and struck car in front of me. no injuries to anyone including my 97 yr. old father tow driver said rpm's were "way up" when he drove car to put it on flatbed. recalled incident of six months previously, after accident, when i attempted to brake at corner before making left turn. car accelerated and i shot across street frantically applying brake and stopped just short of a line of parked cars. thought little more about the incident as i believed, at the time, that i had mixed up the accelerator and brake pedals. driving a rental at present, car is on hold before repair so it can be inspected by toyota. the subrogation dept. of my ins. company has attempted to contact toyota to discuss a number of claims by their customers and toyota has not responded so far. *tr

I was driving on the freeway and suddenly i smelled a burning electrical order in my car. there were no lights or anything that came on the dashboard of my 2007 toyota, camry hybrid. i did have my car serviced for the gas pedal recall. i am concerned about the oil leakage recall that is in canada. i feel very unsafe in my car and need help. i want my family to be safe. *tr

Cruise control set @ 70 mph speed limit on i-85 when a tractor-trailer truck rapidly closed the interval behind as i started up an incline. without warning my speed quickly dropped and the truck moved dangerously close. stepped on the accelerator to increase speed and within a second or two the cruise control further increased my speed. do not know what the speed increase was because i was paying attention to the interval between the truck and my car and not what registered on my speedometer. after going over the hill's crest there was state patrol car in the median who clocked my speed at 80mph. had not previously experienced speed drops and surges with the cruise control and was much more attentive to the actions of the cruise control for the remaining part of the trip. there were multiple instances where the speed would drop from six to seven miles per hour as the car started up an incline and then would rapidly accelerate, overshooting the setting by three to four miles per hour (once over five) before ultimately dropping back to the set speed. this is both a safety concern as well as uncomfortable when there is a series of rolling hills. the toyota dealer could find no problem with the cruise control, finding no dtc fault codes and no abnormal findings after force testing the cruise system. i suspect the issue may relate to the electronic controls for the hybrid system. as the car went down hill, the gasoline engine appeared to be in "idle/coasting" state and the gps/energy display showed no energy flow to either the drive wheels or the battery from the engine. the electric motor, however, was in charging mode. *tr

When i turned the car on at 7:30 am the "check vsc" warning light immediately came on. i planned to take my daughter to school and then drop the car off to be checked at my local toyota dealer. after about 2-3 miles, the warning light turned off. after about 3-4 miles further, i applied the brakes and got no braking action. the brakes felt as though they had completely lost their power assist and they did not respond at all. i put the car in neutral and coasted until i slowed down enough to be able to pull off the road. i had the car towed to the dealer. as of this morning, they have not been able to duplicate the problem and the "check vsc" light is still off. no indication was left on the cars computer that any maintenance light had come on or that there were any issues. *tr

My 2007 camry has been recalled due to the pedal issue and the mat. i took the mat out however even though my pedal has stuck already the dealership will not give me a rental until they fix the problem or another trade-in. i feel very unsafe and now they are recalling camry's for other reasons as well. i would like another car and feel i should not have to worry about taking my children and grandchild in the car because they have not figured out what to do. can you help me get a replacement car? *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. the contact was driving approximately 55 mph with the activation of the cruise control. the engine revved excessively high out of control. the failure occurred twice after traveling for three hours on the highway. when the brake pedal was depressed the driver was able to gain control. the vehicle has not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the current mileage was 15,000. the failure mileage was 14,000.

I was coming out of a bank drive-through when suddenly the 2007 camry-hybrid, with approximately 34,000 miles ran, did not stop at the exit to the principal street, thankfully no car was coming from that street. it started to run also with difficulty, and the vsc system appeared on the screen. i went directly to the nearest dealer and they said that it was programming issue, they re-program it and that was it. they couldn't explain why it deprogrammed. eleven months after that event, it happened again. suddenly, the car wouldn't stop when i hit the brakes, i got really nervous and called a towing company to get it to the dealer. i was at low speed and i could manage to stop. they kept the car for two weeks and couldn't find the problem of why the programming scramble like that, they just reprogram it and that's all for them. in the meantime, i'm scared to death of going to the highway with that car, specially when i think it can combine with the accelerator problem. so far toyota have not offered me a solution and i'm afraid to use my car for the safety of my kids. please help by investigating the software on camry's as well. *tr

At 12:55 p.m. i was pulling forward in to a parking space where there was a curb and a tree on the right side over the curb, in tartan park in bloomington minnesota. my toyota camry 2008 gas pedal became stuck and i went over the curb and slammed into the tree and threw me back. people told me at the park that this was one of the cars that had been recalled for this problem, i was never notified. i could have run right in to the children playing if it wasn't for the tree. *tr updated 10/15/14
