Problems with 2014 Subaru Forester ENGINE

On average, the 2014 Subaru Forester starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 38 646 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2014 Subaru Forester

I have had ongoing issues with the oil consumption on this vehicle. i have had a couple of oil consumption tests run on this car and they claim that it passes, (even though i can barely make it 4k without having to add more oil to the car) today the car is back at service to fix the front engine cover seal. one has to wonder if this was the oil issue all along, however it will cost me almost a grand just to get this repair done.

Driving 65 mph on highway. car suddenly no longer responsive to accelerator and speed drops. recovered in a few seconds. dealer examined and states it was due to defective condition in brake light switch that was installed 6 months earlier due to recall. dealer states car went into "limp" mode. switch condition resolved without replacement according to dealer.

First notice this a couple of years ago but is happening more frequently now. started when you would have a low speed hard left turn such as in a parking lot a/c would stop working, power steering would shut down and then everything would come back to normal. more recently it's been happening while driving down the road. it feels as though the engine quits and usually after a few seconds everything comes back on. the other day i had 4 or 5 occurrences with in 7 miles, the last time was turning onto the street i live on and it was mid left turn almost ran into the street sign pole when the power steering failed. i stop by a suburu dealer and the service writer acted as though he had never heard of it. it is all over the internet. this is not safe and i have had to many issues with my suburu.

My 2014 subaru accelerated as i pulled into a parking spot hitting a tree. my foot was on the brake when this happened.my air bags did not deploy .

Subaru engines are using excessive amounts of oil even when new, up to 1 quart per 1500 miles. a 2014 lawsuit required them to fix this problem, which they are only barely doing. hundreds of others with this problem are being required to simply add more oil at $9 - $12/quart 3-4 times each oil change. as the car ages, the consumption causes the car engine to seize when at highway speeds, creating the potential of serious accidents. again, subaru has officially acted to not address this issue in their tsb 02-157-14r, titled surface treatment change to oil control piston rings. prior to this, dealerships were instructed to change out the piston rings. this tsb states: "concerns related to a possible oil consumption condition are generally initiated when the customer believes the engine oil level on the dipstick has dropped since the last time it was checked or when the low oil lamp illuminates. these types of complaints by themselves do not directly indicate a concern with the vehicle exists."

Driving on interstate 70 mph, car engine stopped running, rpm's were still up as if car on, coasted out of traffic, no check engine, no sputtering, had gas, but acted as if i had run out. turned ignition key to off and removed it, attempted to start the car several times within an hours time, it acted as if it was going to start but didn't. had it towed to mechanic, on a flat bed tow truck. it started up and all systems were checked with no evidence of failure. diagnostics were run with no active codes, electrical was checked, no evidence of failure. this could have been a huge safety event, if i had not been in an outside lane and was able to get out of traffic. i have had three mechanics look at it and no issue found, but in fear of driving on highway. guesses have been fuel pump faulty? cam shaft sensor faulty? electrical?

January 2019. the issue started as cel came on. rough idle, surge of power and then cam timing became issue. was at a stop sign idling when surge occurred lurching vehicle forward. took to dealer waited weeks for a technical representative to give advice to dealership. took to other dealer to confirm. they replaced timing chain., cam phasers and other required. didnt solve issue. next step was internal oil filters that supply avsc timing. no fix. replaced ecm as final step in subaru matrix. ran for 3 weeks and several thousand dollars. again cel, rough idle, cam issues. subaru points to dealer. dealer points to subaru. and i have a inoperable vehicle. i replaced all required parts and have ongoing issue. soa has been involved but not resolution. it has been 8 months of disappointment. great car but this is too much to continue to deal with. the xt has been known to have issues, recall on possible cyclinder cracking and issues relating to engine performance.

The car completely looses power and stutters. the engine does not shut off, but there is no power going to the wheels. at this point this has happened dozens of time. it began around 20-30,000 miles, and continues into 90,000+ miles. it can happen going 20-40 miles per hour or 55 or 70. it's under load usually, and happens more when it is hot outside. sometimes it happens once, then i don't have it for months, and other times it has happened repeatedly for mile after mile of driving. i have to let my foot off the gas and re-apply multiple times to keep the car moving. it's happened in neighborhoods, driving on the freeway, and trying to pass on the highway. i have taken it to my dealership numerous times and they refuse to keep it long enough and test it enough to replicate the problem. it is still under the extra warranty i paid for it and subaru refuses to help as well.

I got my regular oil change. one month later my indicator came in reading 'system detects low oil'. took it back to the shop where i got my oil changed, they told me it was bone dry and that my car is burning oil. they said that i'm not the only subaru owner who has that problem. they just top their oil off every month. i cannot afford this. found out it's a defective piston ring that subaru knew they were selling. i was driving for 6 hours on the highway with this indicator. the car could have exploded. but i assumed it was just reacting to my long drive. i honestly could have been extremely hurt or killed. i don't know if i should sell the car or pay to take the entire engine apart.

I reported this incident on august 19, 2018 -complaint number 1120961. i had suv towed the following day to dealer where i purchased it brand-new. the dealer service dept is trying to tell me there is nothing wrong with the suv, but that is impossible. the dealer has arranged for subaru of america from nj to contact me, but i need your help to get this resolved. the problem is intermittent and they say they have not been able to replicate it. when the incident occurred in my daughter's driveway when i placed it in reverse and it acclerated at such a high rate in reverse with brake depressed and i could not stop it when my foot was depressing the brake, i had my accident running into the back of my daughter's suv in which was parked in her driveway - causing over $2,000 damage to her suv - my suv was damaged in the rear bumper but dealer has not told me the estimate of damage. subaru is having accident rep contact me within next 48 hours. this suv is so dangerous that i could be killed and so could others in my car or other vehicle passengers. please please take this complaint seriously because it is a very serious safety issue. please refer to my initial complaint.. thank you *tr

Excessive oil consumption. i bought this 2014 subaru forester sometime in august 2013. this was the very first vehicle i ever bought, not knowing any facts about lemon laws. i was driving back from south dakota sometime in july 2014 on a sunday night when the low oil lamp turned on. i was on the freeway in the middle of nowhere, so i had to drive maybe 3-4 hrs more to find an open mechanic. mechanic came back to me and said that when he dipped the stick, the oil barely registered. i had about 8,000 miles at this point. i should've filed a lemon law complaint at this point. but i was too young and naive. i went to the dealership and we did an oil consumption test, maybe 3-5 more times. sometimes the lamp wouldn't light up, sometimes it lights up at around 1500 miles or past it. around dec 2015, subaru finally decided to change my short block. i never had a chance to fully drive my vehicle as i got stationed overseas in march 2016. i came back from overseas in april 2017. issue persisted again in march 2018. did about 2-3 oil consumption test until the new subaru dealership i went to got an approval to change the short block for the second time. now, a month later after short block overhaul #2, the low oil lamp turned on again. i've pretty much gotten to know the service reps at my local subaru shops. subaru has no response to this issue. except to top my oil off. waste my time everytime i go past 1000+ miles and give me anxiety. i've emailed subaru of america about the issue as well. all i have is a complaint ticket from them with no real solution.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. while driving 70 mph, the engine revved and stalled. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (williams volkswagen inc., 2845 east saginaw st, lansing, mi 48912), but the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that they would look into the failure. the failure mileage was 33,000.

While parking this vehicle on the street, in front of our apt., smoke came from under the hood, once parked and hood opened, engine caught on fire, fire dept. was called. the car is totaled.(i do not want to upload pictures, due to identifiable info. in the pictures.)

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. the contact stated that the vehicle was previously included in an unknown recall for detonation of the engine. the dealer (randy marion subaru, 301 w plaza dr, mooresville, nc 28117) reprogrammed the engine control module. a year later, the spark plugs were replaced and the contact noticed that they were burned. the contact took the vehicle back to the dealer, but it was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the failure mileage was 40,000.

My 2014 forester has stalled on me 5 times in the past 3 years while traveling between san antonio and el paso tx. while traveling at highway speeds (80mph on this part of i-10) with and without cruise control, the engine suddenly would make a hard downshift, then another, and allowed me about 10 seconds to pull over to right shoulder, then stalled. during the downshift no warning lights came on until i was completely stalled and then they all turned on. one time it gave me a warning light that my transmission oil was hot, after it stalled. i have traveled to other places in texas with same variables other than the inclines/ declines of that part of i-10. this vehicle cannot handle inclines at highway speeds after driving an hour or two. i have been lucky that the 5 times my forester stalled i was not surrounded by heavy traffic. this is a very bad situation and very dangerous!! a couple of years ago i notified my subaru dealer when they did an oil consumption test (because i have to add a quart between each oil change) and they did nothing. the manager speculated some work they could do at my cost but had no answers or suggestions. i have also had to replace the ball bearings in the rear right wheel. these things should not happen to a new car with high ratings. my 86 honda civic could go between el paso and san antonio with no problems.

I have an ongoing issue with my 2014 subaru forester that was manufactured in 2013, in which the check oil light routinely goes on approximately half-way through a 6k oil change. there was a class action lawsuit against subaru that stipulated an oil consumption test could be initiated following an oil change. the oil levels are checked at 1,200 miles after the oil change and if the levels are low the vehicle will fail the test and qualify for a new engine at no cost. i've had 2 oil consumption tests completed on my car, with the first one done 1 year ago. my vehicle passed both tests at 1,200 miles, but routinely is low on oil well before my next scheduled oil change. i have filed 2 complaints with subaru of america with no success. i last had my oil changed at 71,308 miles, and brought it back for the test 1,200 miles later. i am now 3k into the same oil change and my check oil light went on yesterday and today. i brought it to the dealer to check the level and it was 3/4 of a quart low, which subaru of america says is normal oil consumption at 3k into an oil change and they will not replace the engine. this is not an issue for subaru foresters manufactured in 2014, as subaru of america changed the pistons in the engine to address the issue. i am very stuck; the dealer won't help me, subaru of america won't help me, and the car is worthless given the service records indicating that it uses excess oil. i work full-time. i am also the main transportation for my 2 young children. i drive with extra quarts of oil in my car and have to add oil approximately 3-4.5k into a 6k oil change when the light comes on. i have spent a lot of time and energy on this issue with no success and i just don't know what to do anymore. i am hoping you can help. i can provide you with all emails to subaru of america and maintenance records for the car. updated 11/07/2017*js

Excessive oil consumption. down 2 quarts of oil before oil change is due.

At 106,000 miles the check oil level light illuminated on 3/22/2017. at that time after checking i added 1 at of oil. i reported this to the dealer after reading online that there were multiple reports of my vehicle model having oil consumption problems. an oil consumption test was subsequently performed which was negative. it was suggested to me by the dealer that i could contact subaru directly if i still had concerns which i did. i was told that it was not unusual for cars to use extra oil and there was nothing to be done about it. since then the check oil light has regularly illuminated prior to my next oil change and has required the addition of 1 qt of oil at decreasing mileage intervals. i am now down to seeing the check oil illuminate and adding oil at 3000 miles. i have followed the subaru recommendations for service. i have owned cars made by toyota, nissan, honda, ford, jeep, chevrolet, volkswagon, mazda and subaru over the last 45 years and have never had a car require oil additions. i have a friend with a 2013 subaru forester that was told at her last service that there was no oil registering on the dipstick. that year model has no check oil warning light when 1 qt down. for my year model the vehicle was redesigned and a check oil light was added which may suggest there was a problem developing.

During an oil change this week. i was told that i was down 1.5 quarts. i called the dealer and requested an oil consumption test. they denied my appointment and told me that this"was the new normal". i do not accept that my 2014 subaru should be using this much oil. i checked the class action subaru oil consumption lawsuit, but my vin number is not included in the action. i believe there is still a problem and this needs to be further addressed.

My 2014 subaru forester burns an excessive amount of oil. for a new engine, i shouldn't have to worry about checking the oil every few days to make sure it isn't a 1/2 quart or more low. i'm extremely worried that the oil is going to get too low between checks, and the engine will seize on lake tahoe's icy winter mountain roads just at the wrong time.

I was on an on ramp onto the highway when the computer in the center of the dash started alerting that several systems needed check. all the dashboard indicators went off and the vehicle lost power even when i pressed the gas pedal. after turning the car off and then back on again it was idling hard and it several warning lights remained on. the car was towed under warranty to the nearest dealership. upon investigation the dealer said there was a bad coil. after replacing the coil the vehicle still didn't work. now they claimed there was a bad fuel injector. after replacing that the car continued not to work. the problem they kept seeing was a misfire in cylinder 4. they changed o-rings, they cleaned the engine, they even ordered a new engine and replaced the engine and it still suffers from the misfire. the car has now been in the shop for 34 days and they have no idea what is wrong or how to fix it.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. while driving various speeds, the oil light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (al serra auto plaza in grand blanc, michigan) and the oil was changed at 50,557 miles. the dealer had the contact return at 52,062 miles to check the oil consumption. the contact was informed that the engine was not burning enough oil for it to be a failure and the vehicle passed the oil consumption test. the vehicle was below .2 quarts of oil and the oil light illuminated again at approximately 55,000 miles. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was 50,557...updated 08/23/17 *bf

While driving vehicle on highway speeds in temperatures around 85-90 (or greater) degrees vehicle will not allow acceleration. vehicle stumbles, detonates and will not allow the driver to apply power without hesitation and engine stumbles. this problem can be recreated at will and yet the vehicle will not throw a cel unless a larger failure happens, which typically is the #3 cylinder burns off the spark plug electrode and damages the engine. subaru is aware of the issue but considers this condition normal. the vehicle is not appropriately mapped for the subaru suggested fuel octane level, has turbo boost piping leaks according to numerous individuals.

I purchased a brand new 2014 forester in 2013. it now has 20,000 miles on it. it has excessive oil consumption. i need to add a quart to a quart and a half about every month. the dealership says that it is 'normal' for the car to use a quart of oil every 1200 miles. subaru recommends changing the oil every 7500 miles. that means that i am adding over 6 quarts of oil between every recommended oil change. that is ridiculous. the oil is synthetic and very expensive. after having the low oil light come on several times when i was alone at night on the interstate, now i carry several quarts of oil with me at all times. this is a very expensive vehicle and it is ridiculous that subaru knows of the problem and will not address it. excessive oil consumption is a problem with a number of subaru models over a number of years. hopefully nhtsa or epa (whom i also notified) will help persuade subaru to address the problem and recall their defective cars and fix them.

Safety problems from summer 2014. the car abruptly loses power when accelerating. this is dangerous when overtaking log trucks and other slow traffic on steep two-lane highways. we have taken the vehicle to dealerships several times for repair and except for updating the engine control unit firmware; they have been unable to isolate the cause. in february 2016, subaru of america (soa) mailed us recall wqw-58r. the dealer did not respond to our recall appointment requests. we asked for soa assistance. the dealer was hostile, yet claimed to perform the recall. later, a dealer employee informed us that some employees sabotaged the vehicle with the intent of having the engine explode. another shop confirmed facts and corrected some damage. california bureau of automotive repair case (sa2016005132) cited the dealership . the sudden power loss remains and it is unsafe to operate. it has failed to start on occasion. we are afraid that the original problem or other acts by the dealership may cause us or to be injured or killed in a head-on collision when power fails. it may strand us in an isolated area during a snowstorm or in some dangerous location. we have requested that soa accept the car back as a lemon. they have refused. the instructions toservice departments includes the following: 'reminder: engine assembly replacement will only be required in a very limited number of cases.' [soa instructions to dealers includes the words 'reminder' and 'very limited' in bold type] in our opinion, the 'reminder' to dealers was intended to suppress corrective action and reduce costs to subaru of america. the subaru of america wqw-58r recall does not appear on the list of safety recalls. from our experience, this is a very dangerous vehicle to operate, and we request that the nhtsa include this recall as a safety issue for this make and model.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. the contact stated that the oil warning indicator illuminated when the vehicle had approximately 2,000 miles left before the next oil change. the vehicle was taken to john hine temecula subaru (4050 dlr dr, temecula, ca 92591, 951-553-2000) to be diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. the contact took the vehicle to another dealer (dch subaru of riverside, 8069 indiana ave, riverside, ca 92504, 951-428-2314) where it was diagnosed that there was excessive oil consumption. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and stated that they would pay a portion of the repair cost. the failure mileage was approximately 119,412.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. while driving, the oil low warning light illuminated. the contact discovered that the oil level in the vehicle was extremely low. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who acknowledged there was an oil consumption issue with the vehicle and offered to perform an oil consumption test. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 22,900.

Vehicle is unstable due to stalling and lurching forward under all throttle ranges. vehicle may "chug" at variable driving speeds. the failure is intermittent and varies from subtle to heavy effects. severe effects causes vehicle to shudder and/or stall then abruptly accelerate. issue does not appear to be related to "turbo lag" as it occurs under low boost conditions. transmission also produces "clicking" sound when engaging from neutral or under changes in speed. condition occurs throughout all driving modes (i, s, s#). condition occurs mostly under acceleration from dead stop, but may also occur under "pick up" acceleration, ie off throttle to decelerate (55mph-45mph) then light throttle to resume driving speed. vehicle may also backfire under acceleration. vehicle may hesitate for several seconds before acceleration from stop or at highway speed than upon resuming acceleration vehicle may have a flat/slow acceleration in spite of heavy throttle. factory authorized repairs attempted to remedy condition by cleaning throttle body and "upper engine" cleanse and states unable to replicate failure. condition has been on-going from purchase with approximately 30k mile to current with 74k miles.

The problem i am encountering has to do with the engine oil consumption. since i have owned my 2014 subaru forester, i have had the low oil level detected for the entire time i have owned this vehicle. in early 2015 i had a oil consumption text performed by the dealer. they had me bring the car back in after 1200 miles. they said i did not meet the criteria for the oil consumption test that would have made my engine be replaced. i now have to add oil every 2,500 miles, at a cost of $9.00-10.00 a quart. they stated that it was the norm for this model car. i indicated that i have a vw passat that goes 10,000 miles between oil changes and never losses a drop. i am very dissapointed that the oil consumption test was only for 1200 miles. that did not prove that there was not a problem. why did subaru only have oit for 1200 miles. there should have been more focus on offsetting customers out of pocket expenses for the rest of the time they own there car. as i do drive a lot of miles for my business, i spend on average $140 a year just on buying oil for between oil changes. it is also inconvenient if i am traveling and i am somewhere were i can not find full synthetic oil in the proper weight which concerns me as i my family and i like to vacation in the many different camp grounds around maryland and the surrounding states.

Attempted to start the car on a cold morning. battery had good charge, but car would not immediately start as normal. after several attempts i placed a battery booster inline with the battery, again after several more attempts nothing but a few spurts.. this happened over a 20 minute period. at no point was there not enough cranking voltage or amperage. weather conditions were cold -10, but mind you no colder then the 2013 winter in which many many mornings and days when the polar vortex was upon us did the car ever fail to start. this is a 2014 turbo xt model, in general turbos are hard starters, as i recently owned a 2009 acura rdx turbo, but again never had starting issues with that car. i spoke to my dealer , but he offered little help, also called and contacted subaru of america, who tried to write of off as a bad battery, but as i mentioned plenty of crank, to dtc's error, nothing , just hard to start.. this car has a proven history of starting in colder weather. the car has experienced rough idles on an off, but i believe there is a tsb for this. what is important to note is the car under the conditions should have started first few cranks, not over a dozen attempts in a 20 minute period. *tr

I also have oil consumption problem with my 2014 subaru forester, purchased at early 2014. though, my forester's oil consumption rate is about 1-1/2 quart per 5000 miles. i visited this site because i received a settlement notice in the mail, per district court of new jersey. i was hoping there are some official post to go along with the settlement notice for getting a no-charge fix from the dealer, if there is one. i suppose the notice itself will have to do. a official posting appearing soon on this site would be nice. here is the url for those that did not get the notice: http://www.oilconsumption.settlementclass.com/

In october of 2013, i purchased by way of lease, a brand new 2014 subaru forester. right after purchasing a 2014 subaru forester i began to have issues with the oil consumption in my vehicle. in example, before my first oil change of 3,000 miles, i had to have my car assessed by the oil technicians as the oil light kept coming on. the oil technicians would ?top? off my fluids and along i went. sadly, after having my 3,000 mile oil change, i continued to have issues with oil consumption. i think i paid a visit to the oil technicians at least once every 6 weeks or so; so much so that the oil technicians were tired of seeing my vehicle. i practically developed a personal relationship with the oil technicians. if they did not know me by name, they were at least familiar with my vehicle. to make a long story longer, this month (september) or better stated less than a year of having a 2014 in my possession, while still being in the year 2014 with 3 months left to go in this year, i had some major work done to my vehicle. up to and including a replacement of the engine. please see the attached invoice to see all the items that were replaced. now you are problem asking well how many miles are on the car? there are only 7,600 miles on the vehicle. in other words i put maybe 760 miles on my vehicle per month in less than a year.opportunity: clearly, i was sold a high priced lemon; a dud. in order to improve on customer satisfaction, it is in my opinion that subaru should provide me with a 2014 subaru forester that is not defective or one that does not have design flaws. no vehicle with less than 8,000 miles and less than a year old should require an engine replacement. please be advised that after the work was done now the car has a vibration and feels as if it is going to shut off. *tr

This problem has been getting progressively worst. the car has been having troubles turning over on cold starts, and has experienced a loss of propulsion and stall going up hill including a loss of brakes since i bought it a year ago. on 9/6/2014 the car was started and was idling high (approximately 4000rpm), check engine light was on, speed control light was on, incline alert light on, sport mode light was on and check emissions system light was on. had to move the car out of the garage and it barely made it up the incline in the underground garage as it was not responding to the accelerator, called for a tow which never arrived and tried to restart out of frustration all lights were off and car i made it to the dealer which was not far away. have already had the dealer inspect the car once to get to the bottom of the problem and they reported their diagnostics showed nothing was wrong and that car electrical\computer problems cannot be fixed until they break completely (or someone is hurt or injured perhaps). there was one more report similar to this on carcomplaints.com that occurred at high speed. seems to me that car is not safe at this point. *tr

On cold start the vehicle will rollover and over and not start. it happens in all temperatures. it does seem to start on subsequent attempts. this is a new car. it should start! *tr

Vehicle hesitates upon acceleration from a stop with slight shuttering. car now has 6,600 mile and still has the problem. dealer acknowledges the problem but claims this is the way the car was designed.

I bought my brand new subaru forester 2014 in august, 2013. after my first oil change i noticed the engine was overfilled with 1 - 2 quart oil. i spoke with the service agent at the same dealership and he was trying to convince me that was the appropriate amount. on my second oil change i clearly asked them if there is any oil consumption problem with my engine and if this is the reason for overfill . the answer was no problem with oil consumption. i made a complain for this oil consumption to subaru usa. their answer was that this is a normal oil consumption. on my third oil change i couldn't make even 3000mi.without adding extra quarter +the extra one i had from the dealer. to be fare i don't see any smoke from the exhaust, but i'm sure that's going to cost me emission problems in the future. according to the 2014 subaru forester manual - 1 quart for 1200 miles is considered normal oil consumption.. today the vehicle is over 12 000mi. and i'm constantly adding oil and paying out of my pocket and wondering how this is going to end. after short research i realized i'm not alone. if i knew for this problem earlier i'd never buy this expensive subaru forester. *tr

This vehicle is a forester xt turbo. i was operating on cruise control at 78 mph, approximately 900 miles from home, when a sudden loss of propulsion occurred. dashboard had multiple warning lights. engine was still operating, though at very low rpm so i was able to maintain steering and braking control. after maneuvering to the side of the road, i noticed the tachometer was fluctuating between 500-800 rpm. i turned off the engine and was able to restart. the following warning lights were still illuminated: check engine, hill control, cruise control, and operating mode. operating mode was stuck in "sport" mode. i was able to drive vehicle at normal speed to nearest dealer approximately 10 miles away. the service technician stated i had an error code of p0606. this is a voltage issue on the engine control module, (ecm). the corrective action is to re-flash the ecm computer chip. this is a restricted action, requiring a field service engineer to come to the dealer to do the procedure. the technician stated they had already experienced this with a vehicle they sold but the problem with the module usually occurs on engine start. the technician cleared the error codes and i continued on my trip. upon returning to my home, i took the vehicle to my dealer to be serviced. my dealer stated they were one of the first to experience this issue. i am wondering why there has been no recall/notice to owners of this problem since it has been known for a while. it is frightening to lose power when cruising at highway speed. *tr

At cold starting, approximately one time out of 20, the car is very difficult to start. it cranks for up to 10 seconds before starting. i don't know if it's a fuel delivery or an ignition problem. it has happened at ambient temperatures from 35 to 65 degrees. if i didn't continue cranking the engine to an extent that i think is harmful to it, it wouldn't start. i consider that a safety issue, if i needed to get the car going quickly. *tr

I started the vehicle, put it in reverse and nothing!! it didnt move. stepped on the gas, nothing! tried this 4 times. after about one hour it started and went in gear. took it to the dealer, they tested it , said nothing wrong. second time, which was later that night, i had the car out. started up, put it in reverse, nothing happened. car was on a slight incline, car then rolled forward and almost hit a car in front of us. tried 3 times before the car would back up third time, which occured on december 31st, 2013. i was driving to work. stopped at red light. light turned, i stepped on the gas and the car didnt move, it then jumped into the intersection of a major highway! lucky i wasnt hit from behind or head on! i could not get the car to go. called the dealership. after about 5 minutes i was able to get the car going. the car is at the dealership now and i have a loaner car. they called and said again that they could not find anything wrong!!! i could have been killed!!! i do not want this car back until it is fixed or i get a new one to replace it. i am not very happy with the new 2014 forester! *tr

My 2014 forester has a problem with the rpms of the engine. in cold weather & after the engine warms up (dash blue light turns off) & while city driving, the engine rpm goes up 300 to 400 rpms when the climate control (heater) is turned on. then if i stop for a traffic light or a stop sign or adjust the heater fan speed, the engine rpms will go up another 500 to 600 rpms with the cv transmission going into a lower range (transmission whines quite loud at this time). i am now driving with the engine rpm at 1000+ over normal rpms (normal rpms is considered the rpm with the climate control off). this condition will continue for close about 20 minutes of continued driving and then stop. if i turn off the heater while driving the rpms revert to normal. if i again turn on the heater, the rpms again will go up 300 to 400 rpms and not go up the additional 500 to 600 rpms until i would stop again. the 1000 rpm plus condition appears to be dangerous on slippery roads. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled multiple times and the brakes failed upon making a complete stop. the contact had to apply excessive pressure to the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times, but the failures could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 14,000.

Starting from a cold or warm temperature the vehicle cranks excessively and will not start until a second or third attempt. this has happened at random and about a dozen times in the past five months. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. the contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the warning lights illuminated as the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was towed to a local dealer for inspection but had not been repaired or diagnosed. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the failure mileage was 47.

Car engine consumes unreasonable amounts of oil during use requiring constant monitoring to avoid engine failure. car burns through one quart of oil per 2000 miles. i have tried to work with the dealer and company to resolve the issue. i was told by them that it is "normal" for the car to burn up to one quart per 1200 miles. to put this in perspective, the car holds seven quarts of oil and the manufacturer's maintenance scheduled specifies changing the oil every 7500 miles. this means the car would have to burn six and a half out of seven quarts of oil between scheduled services to meet criteria.

Oil light (yellow) came on to signify oil level is low. this is an ongoing problem and requires approximately one quart of oil every 1200-1500 miles driven. subaru was notified from the beginning and has made many excuses over the past 18-months. i have now been asked to leave the car with the dealership for at least a week, for them to be able to further investigate. *tr

After i purchased my vehicle, i noticed a hesitation between 20 - 40 mph. this is the first year for the forester's to have a cvt engine so i thought it needed broken in. i also went through 3 cycles of filling up my gas tank from 3 different gas stations and the hesitation continued. the first time i brought it in the technician said he overfilled the oil a slight bit, removed it, and i should notice a difference. no difference. i brought my vehicle back to the dealership addressing the same issue. they performed the tests subaru of america (soa) suggested and nothing was found. the last time it happened, > month ago, i feared an accident because it hesitated through an intersection. i returned the vehicle wanting answers. subaru sent out their own technician to gather information to send to fuji and what i was told was that their equipment did not find anything wrong and that it was normal for a cvt engine. i test drove several more foresters and they all had varying degrees of hesitation and all had different mileage on them. *tr
