We have classified the 2 complaints from 2008 Scion xB about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Excessive oil consumption. i have to add two quarts of oil between every oil change and the vehicle is still a quart low when it's changed. i received a letter from toyota to have vehicle tested for excessive oil consumption. test results show it uses .6 quarts in 1000 miles, toyota says that's normal.
Defective brakes or related problem with 2008 scion xb model. when vehicle comes to a stop, a loud, low/downward pitched sound occurs and it feels like either the brakes are grinding or something related to the drive train is having a problem. this is an intermittent problem, but occurs most often after the car has sit idle for awhile. toyota technicians drove the car for 2 days and said they experienced/heard the problem, but were not sure what it was or how to fix it. they lubed the front brake glide pins and adjusted shim pan and charged me $120 even though the car is under warranty. unfortunately that did not fix the problem and i am worried that the car braking system may fail while i am driving the car. *tr

I own 2008 scion xb which currently has 87000 miles on it. 4 weeks ago today i was pulling out of my driveway and from 1st gear to second gear the car jerked hard and all vsa, abs, check engine lights came on, and car wouldn't shift out of gear and steering began to act funny. i had vehicle towed to mechanic in fear of driving it ant further. mechanic ran diagnostic on car and code read transmission sensor no good. they replaced and problem is still occurring, lights on as well. mechanic had 3 other mechanics come and evaluate and as well inquired with local toyota dealership who suggested only that it may be wiring harness below battery which is a recurring problem, also that they would gladly look at the car for 90 per hour! mechanics looked at harness and all looked to be in good working shape. the car is still parked and not repaired 4 weeks later. *tr
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) hello, my name is[xxx], i live in [xxx]and i am experiencing vehicle trouble. this is a model of a 2008 toyota scion xb. well, as i speak right now my vehicle has 49,409 miles and it is still sitting in their shop since 05/10/2010 for the transmission to be replaced. they thought it was a sensor problem but then they told me that my vehicle is having already a transmissions problem. i brought my vehicle to them on 05/09/2010 because i was driving on a 30/45 mph lane and it starting to vibrate pretty unusual. the next day the service department called me and said that they did not hear anything wrong with the vehicle so then i took it back left on my way out. well, the next day it started to occur again and this time, the vibration was much heavier. so, i took it back to the same person that i've have dealt with on this issue. i had explained to him that the issue is not fixed. i explained to him that "i still feel the vibration on my vehicle you need to test drive it yourself so you'll know what i am trying to explain". well the guy did test drive it and of course he did describe it that it is an unusual noise that the scion xb is doing. he also indicated to me that it is too soon for this vehicle to be having a transmission issue. so they will have their toyota technicians guys to take a look at it. and the 3 weeks are almost here and my car it is still sitting in their shop to be fixed. now, the big question is " will this car be safe for me to drive with my family on the highway? yes, they are changing the transmissions but what will happen if this transmission breaks down on me 1 year from now or even months from now. i will really be worried especially when i am with my children. can you please help me with some suggestions or any tips that i need to do? i feel very unsafe now that this vehicle it is not going to be safe. *tr updated 07/06/10. *lj updated 07/09/10.*jb
