It was just recently brought to my attention that there was a technical service bulletins sent out for the 3.0 ecodiesel to change the type/specification of oil and to go against what the owners manual states because the manual is wrong. it calls for an oil that is to light breaks down molecular weight too quickly and trucks and jeeps alike equiped with the ecodiesel have been having catastrophic engine failure due to premature engine wear on internal components. it is recommended to put 5w40 in instead. this is first and foremost true i did research and confirmed that the change was made but never made public to the owners like the current class action lawsuits was. many owners don't know this change exsisted and many owners don't know that the dealerships are still making this error and continuing to fill the trucks with 5w30 for owners that come in for service. if it's to save money by not throwing away already purchased merchandise or ignorance i don't know. but this is huge because now even if owners change now they still have potential and highly probable permanent internal damage done to their engine taking a drastic amount out of the possible longevity of the engine away, and the new oil required reduces fuel economy furthering the financial burden of the owner that bought the vehicle with a different fuel economy advertised and with the knowledge that their vehicle may never last as long as they're hope because of the failure of the fca to identify this and make it public. not to mention the dealerships are aware of this problem because articles claim mechanics have been coming forward saying dealerships are draining all 5w30 on unsold vehicles and replacing it with 5w40. yet they refuse to make this a class action lawsuits to the public so we can know. we deserve the compensation for the costs that may come about because of this!!!
I have a ram 2016 on more than one occasion my truck accelerated on it's own while i was driving. once on the interstate going around 70 mph (had 3 passengers with me) and twice today 10/22/19 in morning traffic and almost caused me to have an accident. it took hitting the brakes several times to stop. i took it to the dealership
Vehicle taken in on 8-12-19 to dealership to check out driveability concerns after "approved emisson modification" they had it to apply update from 5-17-19 to 6-12-19, concerns on 8-12-19 were acceleration, also to check egr system as i was losing coolant they had my vehicle from 8-12-19/9-13-19 when they called me telling me i needed to return the rental car and pick my vehicle as they couldn't do anything for the acceleration i would have to wait for an update to be released. they didn't check the egr system only topped it off with coolant and told me to watch it. all was fine until 9-16-19 when i was on my way to work, about 7 miles from work the check engine light came on i continued on about a mile from my work location the service throttle control light illuminated i lost the ability to accelerate and about 1/4-1/2 mile away from the work location the low oil pressure light illuminated and vehicle died. i finished coasting into the driveway and parked went inside to get work related paperwork i needed and came back outside and see smoke coming from under the hood. i open the hood to see what was going on and there was smoke/fire on the left side of engine bay when staring in (intake, egr area) at that point i got in to the vehicle to put it in neutral via disengagement lever to roll vehicle away from the house i got it away from the house and got out and away and called fire department to come extinguish the fire as it was engulfed in flames at that point. resulting in a total loss of the vehicle. now afterwards there is now a recall for the egr cooler that "may fatigue and cause vehicle fire" chrysler has been contacted and aren't willing to do anything they sent out bosch automotive engineering people to inspect the vehicle it was stated there was no vehicle manufacturing defect. a buyback claim has been started but i have not heard anything to this point.
Display system, radio, nav, rear view camera, ect. rear view camera, sometimes goes on with a solid green screen. the radio sometimes looses it presets. the nav sometimes will not take an address. chrysler states there is at least 1 downloadable repair but wants to charge for it, approx. $125 and if the download does not work work and it makes things worse, they still want their money for trying and will not make any repairs.
Sudden stop at 75 mph in freeway. safety hazard! my 2016 dodge ram suddenly stops randomly when going at 75 mph. it has caused several people to almost slam into my truck. one man was so angry i pulled over and told him i was so sorry. the guy said there were no brake lights so it was dangerous!!! i have taken it to the dealer multiple times but they tell me since it doesn't give them a code, they cannot pinpoint the problem. the manager at the santa cruz, ca dealership took it for a test drive with a scanner attached; it happened to them but no code appears! after they changed a part, they gave it back but it is still doing it. they are reluctant to do anything else because ram doesn't want to cover the cost. this is my only transportation for our family's livelihood and ram doesn't seem to want to be bothered with it, but it's a safety matter. this is a dodge matter that must be resolved by them. i do not want to drive a faulty unsafe vehicle but i cannot afford another vehicle. i purchased that vehicle for safety and ecological reasons; i hope dodge can be held accountable for fixing this issue and providing me with a substitute for the safety of all.
Since an emissions recall my truck has had a dangerous amount of dead pedal lag when. first starting to drive. the first 5-10 minutes of every drive create a dangerous situation where i am consistently worried about causing an accident because my truck does not operate like a normal vehicle, or as it did before the recall happened.
After fca completed the emissions recall on my 2016 ram the truck now does not want to accelerate into traffic. this is caused several issues when trying to merge into traffic or onto the interstate. also while pulling a trailer i was not able to accelerate properly into traffic or to the highway. due to this while pulling out in traffic i have barely avoided several wrecks.
Tl* the contact owned a 2016 ram 1500. the contact stated that while driving at 40 mph with the seat belt secured, the contact became distracted by his phone and crashed with another vehicle at a red light. the contact crashed into the front driver side of an unknown van as a result the van spun and crashed back into the rear driver side panel of the contacts vehicle. the air bags did not deploy. the contact sustained neck injuries however medical attention was not provided. a police report was filed. there was no fire due to the crash. the vehicle was towed to an independent lot. the local dealer was not contacted and the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the insurance company deemed the vehicle a total loss. the failure mileage was 51,000. *dt *dt*jb
Aem emissions recall v08/ram dealer computer reprograming completed 20 june 2019. pcm flashing from p/n: 68280881ah to target p/n: 68280881a0 and tcm flashing from p/n: 68282282ad to target p/n: 68282282ai. post 2016 ram ecodiesel recall. my post aem emissions recall/ram dealer computer reprograming has created a significantly impaired vehicle with unpredictable acceleration lag and impaired engine response. i am the original owner, the vehicle has just under 44k miles on it. the vehicle is still under the factory warranty and has not been modified in any way from manufacturer specs. the vehicle became impaired after the epa/doj forced recall for emissions control tampering. this update has put me and my family is several seriously dangerous situations. when merging onto highway traffic the truck has significant/sever power or responsiveness. pulling out into/on cross street intersections or from businesses entry/driveways into traffic the truck has little to no power or gas pedal responsiveness for approximately 2-4 seconds upon pressing the gas pedal, then will suddenly accelerate unexpectedly and very rapidly, to the point of spinning the tires. this sudden loss of power or acceleration lag situation happens sporadically at indiscriminate times, with no predictable pattern to it. it seems to be more prevalent upon initial start up engine temperatures, but also continues at somewhat less frequent intervals after reaching normal operating temps. this is an extremely dangerous safety hazard when in a parking lot with pedestrians or trying to pull into traffic. please do something quickly about this issue, as fca is claiming this is normal vehicle operations and that there is no issue. this has nearly caused accidents on several occasions.
Since getting the ram eco diesel mandatory recall / re flash. i have experienced a "dead pedal." it's not as bad in warmer weather but now we are starting to experience colder mornings and winter is right around the corner. the drive-ability of the vehicle is unsafe and unsettling. i am worried about my family now.
After receiving the v08 ecodiesel emissions update, the vehicle performance has suffered significantly! the acceleration delay/lag is truly a life-safety issue and will cause a life-threatening accident. in addition to the significant delays in acceleration (especially when "cold" and when merging onto traffic), the transmission shifts have been altered to be unresponsive and significantly hinder performance. the vehicle is dangerously unsafe with the current recall update!!
Truck was running fine with no issues until the emissions v08 recall. truck now has a significant lag when accelerating from a stopped position. it typically happens when turning (pulling out from a stopped position). it has almost caused us to get in to two different accidents due to lack of acceleration. my whole family was in the car at the time. i refuse to let my children ride as passengers now because it is a huge safety risk. my truck was fine before the recall software update (v08) and now it's a huge safety hazard.
Around 2-3 thousand rpm my 2016 dodge ram 1500 tradesman with 23,000 miles get this horrible vibration that seems to originate from the transmission area of the vehicle. this vibration feels like it could be the driveshaft or transmission. doesn't matter how fast i'm going, as soon as i let off the gas and the truck begins to downshift i start feeling the vibration once i press the gas to accelerate again it's feels like the whole bottom of the truck is vibrating brought the gas pedal as if i'm riding on a rumble strip. i literally have to almost floor it for the vibration to go away.
When the vehicle is started and put in drive, the screen displays a note saying vehicle not in park! and will not do anything unless i put it back in park, turn off the vehicle , wait a couple of seconds and retry
When i am approaching a red light or stop sign, i apply pressure to the brakes. as the vehicle is coming to a stop, it sometimes lunges forward unexpectedly as if i have been rear-ended by another vehicle. the vehicle is still under warranty. i have taken it to two separate dealerships for this hazardous condition. both times they acknowledged the problem exists. both times they updated the computer and claimed it was fixed. both times they were wrong. the vehicle still lunges forward occasionally when coming to a stop. i spoke to the company's customer care representative. they told me to take it to the dealership and have them check it a third time. i have no faith in the dealership after twice taking it in with no resolution. it also costs me time and money to take it to the dealership just to have them tell me the problem is fixed when it is not. my warranty will expire soon, and i believe they are just trying to run out the clock. in addition to the danger that this places my family in, it will also cause expensive parts to need replacement prematurely. i just want a safe vehicle to drive that is made by a company that will honor its warranty.
After i bought my 2016 ram 1500 in february 2019 i noticed my horn and the evic on the instrument cluster stopped working causing me not to be able to read my tpms or oil life or any other evic functions. also with the horn not working i feel it's a huge safety issue there is a recall for this same issue on previous year models. i have noticed that the lights on the evic and cruise control switches don't illuminate either. by googling the issue it seems there are numerous other ram 1500 owners with the same issue. i feel these are all major safety issues and should be investigated.

28 degrees f this morning. i started truck and let it warm up for 5 min. disengaged the parking brake, put it in drive. as i started to move (3) error messages came up on dash: service shifter, service transmission, service throttle control. i stopped truck, turned it off and then started it again. no error codes; engine warning light on. i drove to work 2.5 miles away. i had to stop at a traffic light and engine just turned off. dash board was flickering. i put truck in park, turned key off and then tried to restart truck. nothing, lights still flickering on dash. i tried to put on hazard lights but no power to them. i tried multiple times to restart truck but to no avail. at some point it wouldn't even let me turn the key to off. it was stuck in the "accessory" position. i did catch an error message on the dashboard that said "no bus". if i was moving when truck shut down i would have gotten into an accident; no power brakes or steering. after about 5 minutes sitting at traffic light, the dashboard lights stopped flickering and the truck appeared to reset itself. at this point i was able to start the truck and get to work. the truck has been in four times for "service shifter" error. on three of the visits the dealer loaded new software into the truck to address this and a few recalls. the last visit (3) weeks ago the software was changed so if the truck is not in park, the driver's door is open, truck is in gear, and the driver's foot is not pressing on the brake pedal the computer will put truck in park they also replaced the rotary shifter switch. since that time the service transmission, service shifter and service throttle control error started and has appeared three times. 2016 ram express 1500 was bought new in july 2017 and has 15,400 miles on it. i have no confidence in this vehicle as it will leave me stranded at some point.
See enclosed paperwork report for details of accident. *dt recall was fixed at crown dodge.*jb
Driving on a highway the car start smoking from the hood 2 min later thr truck's engine was on fire
Backup camera does not always have a clear picture
Broken manifold studs. and when you call the dralsgiod they all say this is a common issue and that chrysler has rengineered the studs so tat mean they know about but it's happened to many people and there no doubt anything with i.

I was backing down boat ramp and put truck in park i got out of the truck to secure boat to trailer and the truck rolled down boat ramp knocking me down and dragging me into the water and truck completely semeraged in bottom of lake.
Nhtsa recall number 18v-486. the recall was announced july 26, 2018 but fca still has not issued the part for this recall and it has been a full month already. i use my bed to carry goods all the time and i am in fear of the tailgate opening. please do something about this. thank you
I took my vehicle to a local repair shop(pep boys) for checking of a slight wobble in the drive line or drive shaft of my vehicle. my 2016 ram 1500 had just come out of the purchased extended warranty when the wobble started at 60mph. while searching several websites, forums, youtube and google, i came upon many other people that have the same issue that ram evidently knows about. recently i had been to the ram dealership for another recall issue for the cruise control. i mentioned to the technician about this issue with the wobble, which became a conversation which quickly became avoided by two people that were technicians. the problem has become more troublesome now that the passenger seat and drinks in the drink are a constant shake! now that the whole vehicle shakes, i feel that this is a safety hazard and may effect the braking system with this vigorous shake. when i spoke to several people regarding my issues and many others, this issue was due to a two piece drive shaft with a rubber bushing of some sort and the universal joint that contacts the rear end.
High speed vibration starting around 60 mph only get worst as you speed up.. one dealer said it was the eco. system kicking in , another said there wasn't no problem. but i now there's one. to many complaints online.
While the truck was in motion traveling about 70mph down the interstate, my passenger window fell halfway into the door. this caused me to swerve and almost hit another vehicle. it was 20 degrees outside around 430 am and the truck and been warmed up sufficiently and the heater was on. however i was still told it happened because it was cold outside and the "clips" that hold the window had broken. i did not attempt to roll down the window. it constantly kept falling down by itself and i had to hold the power button up to keep it from doing so, while driving in the morning rush hour traffic. once i got to work and parked my truck in a unsecured parking garage, the window was up this was at about 630 am cst. upon returning to my parked/stationary truck at a break around 9 am cst, the window had dropped halfway down and the same throughout the day. i went to the dealer at once, and was told this is a very common problem, and its not covered because of my mileage. so i had to pay out of pocket for it, for a vehicle that is not even 2 years old, and almost caused me to hit another vehicle. not to mention that it would not stay up and the truck was not attended to in a unsecure garage in the not so nice part of the city. now the back driver's side window is doing the same thing, and its no where near cold (constantly above 60 degrees even at night). this is a huge problem for all vehicles that are made by dodge that have this worthless and cheaply made window mechanisms.
Drivers side widows clips break when window is cold in winter. window does not go up or down. dealer indicated they have seen this quite a bit on other 2016 ram 1500. i asked if they are going issue a recall to fix the problem. they said probably not since it's only in the winter and only impacts cold weather vehicles. when asked what to do to fix it they said don't use the window when it's cold. poor design on 2016 window motor and won't issue a fix. shotty engineering and product uplift.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ram 1500. while driving 75 mph, the front end of the vehicle dropped and the rear end raised 18 inches. as a result, the vehicle was at a 45 degree angle. the contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road to check the vehicle. the contact restarted the vehicle and drove home. the contact stated that the failure recurred three times within the past six months. the dealer (patriot chrysler, dodge, jeep, ram, 916 s george nigh expressway, mcalester, ok 74501) informed the contact that the air suspension pump needed to be replaced. the manufacturer informed the contact to call the number on the back of the owner's manual to speak with someone about the failure. the failure mileage was 30,000.
Exhaust manifold sounds like its leaking at start up
The truck was put into park with the key in the ignition and the engine running. it was parked in a restaurant parking lot. then around five minutes later, it went into reverse and began rolling backwards. it seemed to accelerate. i had to jump in and slam on the brake to stop it. i do not know how this could occur, but have recently learned of recalls for similar situation with the truck in the parked position, but going into gear. our vin was not recalled. there were witnesses to this event.
The three way coolant valve failed. car has about 59000 miles. i note a review of the internet reveals that this problem is very common and certainly should not happen in such low miles. the valve problem appears ongoing. in 2013 there was a recall for ram trucks for a similar issue. clearly it has not been corrected. systems can fail and windshield defrosters will not work creating an extreme hazard during driving.
Blower moter stop working for the 2 time for the ac and heat
I am having an issue with the electronic dial transmission. i have had it come out of park and try running me over, after the first time it happen i have gotten extra vigalant to make sure that it shows p. i have gotten out of truck with it in p and have had people come into store as i'm shopping and tell me your truck has just reversed into traffic. luckilly i have not hit anyone or anything other then a hill. i have had it roll backwards four times on me as i am exiting the truck pinning me between the door and cab almost rolling me under the truck. i then started looking online and have noticed several articals that state that you are investigating this issue.
The tailgate falls down while driving. this could possible days payload to spill onto the roadway causing an accident or even death. this has also happened while sitting and while parked.
Ecm wireing harness
Tailgate is unlatching and falling open. tailgate when closed is securely closed does not move. while locking and unlocking the doors and tailgate several times, tailgate becomes loose. tailgate now becomes movable with one hand. if going over an irregular surface, angle, while driving tailgate comes fully unlatched and will fall open. this has become a daily occurrence, and must continually check tailgate to ensure that tailgate is fully latched. this tailgate problem started at 20674 miles. truck currently has 21887 miles. this has occurred backing down my driveway or up my driveway as the transition from level road surface turning into and up my driveway, or backing out of drive way transitioning from slight grade to zero grade of road surface. same thing driving into or driving out of parking lots, also on highway from road surface to bridge surface to road surface. no warning. only the tailgate cables are supporting tailgate. seems to happen when any kind flexing of bed and frame. this is my sixth personal pick up truck, let alone the dozen or so i have used through my employment. i am very familiar with pickup trucks, and know when a tail gate is secured and completely and fully latched. * this started 06/22/2017 and has progressively continued to become a daily occurrence, sometimes several times, depending on surface truck is driving on. this truck is not off road at any time. truck is only used on paved surfaces.
Ram 1500 was parked stationary on the hill in front yard while unloading six bags of mulch. the truck was in park, keys in pocket, engaged in four wheel drive, and parking brake applied. after about 10 minutes of unloading, the truck skidded down the hill and ended up in a ditch. when trying to remove the truck from the the ditch, upon ignition the ram warned me to disengage the parking brake before moving the vehicle. something let loose to cause this ram to "run away." i have contacted my local insurance agent and filed a claim with them and ram the claim number from ram's special investigation team is 31851709. my truck was damaged and currently residing at a collision center for repairs. i will not get back into this unsafe truck until an answer is found of why of it let loose on a grade. my nine year old son was with me in the front yard. this is causing me not to put my family back into this truck, until a fix is found.
I was in park got out of truck while it was running, went into house for about 30 minutes and then came back out and was using a dump rental trailer with 3.8tons of rock. went to lift with remote trailer control when the trailer was almost all the way up it pushed my truck into drive and took off and i had to run and stop it. and it showed it into drive. thanks god door wasnt shut. so it would of locked me out.
The vehicle has an upgraded 32 gallon fuel tank, however on e with the fuel light on the vehicle only takes 24 gallons maximum. the dealership claims this is a software issue which has no fix at the moment. the dealer claims the software still reads the 26 gallon standard fuel tank.
My truck stopped running and drifted to a stop as i was making a left turn onto a busy highway. no warning alerts were posted on the dashboard nor any audible warning sounded.the truck was in drive at the time and i was stepping on the accelerator to make the turn at 5-10 mph; it simply stopped running. i placed the truck in park and the engine would not restart despite multiple rotations of the keyfob in the ignition. ultimately, i removed the electronic keyfob from the ignition, reinserted the keyfob and the truck started. a service agent at ram dealer in bend, or says they saw a similar problem last week. he indicates the ignition module on that truck was replaced and keyfobs reprogrammed. i hope the problem with that truck was corrected. my wife and i were fortunate that we were not struck by other vehicles as it took perhaps 30 seconds or more to restart. the truck is now running without a repetition of this issue. i am driving it as little as possible. i have first available service appointment next monday april 25. the serviceman read the obdii code when i made the appointment and indicated a code had been set to the effect that communication with the ignition module had been lost. the serviceman indicated this would explain the engine turning off spontaneously. this is reminiscent of the gm vehicles that had ignition problems with associated deaths. i am requesting a formal review of this issue asap as it clearly may cause deaths on the highway. i can be reached at [xxx]. my wife [xxx] can be reached at [xxx]. the dealership is smolich motors in bend, oregon 541-389-1177. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Truck proceeding at about 30-35 miles per hr. on a main city street when a car traveled directly in front of it due to its failure to stop at a stop sign on a side street. front of truck crashed into car. extensive damage to front of truck resulted. questioning why no deployment of air bag in this head- on crash. truck's driver hit steering wheel with forehead and was knocked unconscious for a brief period of time. neck and hip injuries were likewise sustained. driver of truck was ambulanced to nearby hospital for tests and observation. driver of truck was wearing seatbelt at time of collision. police report not yet available. accident occurred 4/3/17 in the evening.
I backed out of my garage and put truck into park, got out to grab something and the truck lurched forward with me holding on to the door, it hit my garage wall, then went in reverse, sped up, and dragged me approximately 50ft through a fence and then into my neighbors house, my 10 yr old was in the back seat screaming, it was horrible. my back was injured, my body was bruised and scraped and both houses had extensive damage. i believe this was due to a faulty rotary shifter, also it cannot be explained how the truck could of gone in reverse after it hit my house, you need to have your foot on the brake to shift gears and i was on the outside of the vehicle. my security camera captured this on video, i have this on a usb drive, i also have all of the claim forms from the insurance company, repair shop, hospital, rental company, there is too much information to scan into a 5mb file. chrysler supposedly had the vehicle inspected while at the body shop, but claims there was no problem? also the police report was written before it was known the security camera had recorded the incident, therefore was slightly inaccurate as this was hard for them to believe it happen as i told them.
Coming home from work on january 5, 2017, i pulled my 2016 ram 1500 pickup part way into my garage, turned the rotary shifter to park and exited the vehicle to make sure that i had a clear path of travel to fully pull the vehicle in the garage. my driveway is an upslope and a portion of the truck was still in the driveway. after i exited the vehicle it began to move backward. the vehicle's door threw me to the ground and swept my legs under the truck.the front left tire ran over both of my legs. the truck continued down our driveway, across the street, through our neighbor's fence and only stopped when it hit a tree in their front yard. my family rushed me to our local hospital emergency room and was i was admitted into that hospital the following morning.
The truck was in park and turned on and not moving on a flat surface in a parking garage without the emergency brake engaged. as i attempted to get into the vehicle it started to roll. i am 4'11 and the truck did not have a step. i attempted to climb into the vehicle twice and on the second time i fell to the ground and injured my left knee as i could not get proper footing to get into the truck. my husband was able to stop the truck from the passenger side by getting his foot to the break as the shift knob would not work. *****this is a truck that was rented from budget rental car******
My 2016 ram 1500 big horn crew cab 4x4 rolled away after being parked. it had been parked for about 3 minutes then i heard a loud screeching noise, turned around as my truck started to roll and jerk down the driveway which has a slight incline. i was able to get to my truck and stop it before it hit the parked car on the other side of the road. i took my truck to the dealership, they kept it for 2 days and i was told that there were no codes recorded on the truck and that they couldn't duplicate the roll away. i have only had my truck for 6 weeks and it has less than 1200 miles on it.
At extremely low speed the front collision warning sensor will occasionally falsely warn of an object present. numerous repairs have been attempted but the problem persists. dealer claims we are the only ones who have ever reported this problem. waiting for fca to decide what to do next. i have videos of the events but currently no still photos. this has happened several dozen times starting in dec 2016 and as recently as aug 6, 2018.
Rotary knob does not indicate that vehicle is not in park. caused extensive damage to vehicle and garage as it took off after exiting truck. cannot confirm if the knob was actually turned to park. main concern is what could have happened if family members, kids, were in the garage. i myself narrowly escaped being pinned against second car in garage that also got hit.
I put my truck in park. it was dark out. i stepped out of my vehicle onto the highway to take a picture of the moon. as my feet hit the pavement the truck begin to roll in reverse. i was hit by the driver side door and thrown to the ground. i rolled away from the vehicle before being run over by the tire. the truck continued to go in reverse and i chased after the vehicle pure adrenaline was all that kept me going. i then attempted to jump into the moving vehicle. i was dragged a short distance before pulling myself into the truck cab. i applied the brake bringing the truck to a stop. i looked at the dial shifter and it still said it was in park. i suffered bruising and a decent sized contusion to my right leg and some bruised ribs. i am very fortunate to be agile enough to have escaped worse injuries.
