We have classified the 2 complaints from 2015 RAM 1500 about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
Engine caught fire due to egr system overheating (maybe burning internally) melting then spontaneously catching foam rubber pad above the egr diffuser tube on fire. resulted in melting wires, hose and other parts attached to engine. was quickly put out with a fire extinguisher. was driving to menards in normal illinois and smelled smoke at first stop light, thought it was van next to me. at next stop light smelled the smoke again and pulled into menards parking lot. saw lots of smoke coming out from under hood. raised hood looking for where smoke was coming from. saw a small flame, went to back of truck and took out fire extinguisher. went to front of truck and flame had turned to flames, extinguished fire.
I was unloading groceries from bed area. tried to close the tailgate and tailgate would not latch. i always pull on tailgate after closing to make sure it latches but this time it did not. since then it has repeated this action 3-4 more times but never opened while moving (yet.) i manipulate the latching mechanism a few times and then it will catch. vehicle is out of warranty and was purchased previously owned ( i have had the vehicle for approximately 2-1/2 years), and currently has 92,430 miles. all other recalls are fixed and up to date.
Driving on i -29 and we smelled comething like antifreeze then smoke. truck lost power then got it back and was going to try to make it to an exit but pulled over when smoke coming from under the hood. opened the hood and saw fire! called 911 and fire dept came but in a matter on minutes the truck burned up completely.
When i bought my truck in september 2018, earnhardt told me they fixed the recall to the tailgate, and while driving to work this morning my tailgate dropped open at high speeds on the highway. i have only had the truck for one year.
Interrion of truck fills up with water because third brake light, manifold bolts and gaskets need replaced due to some issue. tapping noise from engine compartment.
About 4 weeks ago the check engine light came on. the code reads as fuel temperature sensor. after the recall for the tailgate, my truck tailgate has opened twice while driving. prior to the recall zero.
Headlight developes condensation, causing headlight (high beam) to blow out (my case), but which ever is on will blow out. dealership is telling customers to run with high beam on to burn off the condensation. this only causes the bulb to blow.
3rd brake light not sealed and allows water to enter truck. can interiors liner wet and stains. back leather seats wet and stained
Passenger side storage well was completely filled with water. went unnoticed for unknown number of days. took vehicle into crown dodge of fayetteville. they acknowledged the growing number of complaints on the same issue. replaced 3rd brake light, they tried telling me that all door weather strips were worn and needed replaced. dealership did not look for, find or fix water damage to the seats, carpet or body panels. this is the second incident with water damage in the same spot while i have owned this vehicle.
My truck caught fire while driving at 65 mph on the interstate on dec 23 2018. all gauges suggested normal operating parameters. the truck has 120k miles. it's a total loss. *dt *tr
Driving slowly through an area with water on road. there was black ice on the road and truck hit ice. went out of control across road up an enbankment and slammed into a telephone pole. totaled truck and air bags did not deploy
Running board broke off due to errors with rivets fastened to the body instead of chassis frame
On 9/21/18 my husband was driving to the store down the interstate and his truck shut off causing him to coast to the shoulder. when he did he noticed some light smoke. he tried to pop the hood but it wouldn't pop so he got out and tried to see if it was caught and saw more smoke he looked underneath to see stuff dripping like melting from the engine compartment, at that time he went to walk around the truck to look for a fire extinguisher when he heard a loud explosion causing him to run back from the truck and call 911. in less than 5 minutes the entire truck was engulfed in flames and in the 25 it took the fire department to arrive the entire truck except the bed and rear tires were completely burnt down. 5 months prior to this the engine in this ecodiesel blew up while he was driving down the interstate and chrysler did an complete engine replacement on it under warranty and due to their fault. the new engine only had 10-15k miles on it and to replace this engine you have to take the entire truck apart like a lego cab and all. ram is not coming out with an ecodiesel in the 1500 in 2019 but chrysler is not owning responsibility for the truck almost killing my husband. the truck was in motion on fire and on the side of a highway when it burnt down. it was in motion and on an interstate when the first engine blew with only 84k miles on a diesel.
Tailgate has fallen open twice without notice. first time it happened i had just started my truck and was parked, the tailgate fell open, hitting a tree and dented the tailgate. the second time i just pulled out of a parking lot and the tailgate fell open and i almost lost the load in the back of the truck bed.

Vehicle in park on level city street. stepped out of vehicle. vehicle suddently accelerated at seeminly full power in reverse. crossed into intersection and hit by traffic, continued across intersection, came to rest in yard of house opposite.
The tailgate falls/ slams open while driving down the road and while parked. this happens multiple times every day.
Tailgate open when i road a few times monthly.
Tailgate of truck randomly falls/opens during driving on roadways. it appears to be related to auto-lock/unlock feature or plastic parts in latch. i have had it replaced 2 times and it appears to take care of the issues temporarily. currently it is every 8th time the doors are unlocked and then locked. previous warranty work was every 4 start/stops. it is not tied to any other issue because it may go a week or two without issue and then randomly open. is a safety issue while hauling cargo on the interstate at speed. dealer 1st replacement stated the tailgate mechanism binds and then falls. known issue with 2015 ram rebels and other models of 1500. this happens and smooth road or bumpy roads at slow speed and high speed. not when parked. has happened 10 times in the last 4 weeks. *tt *tr
Tailgate randomly opens while vehicle is in motion allowing bed contents to potentially fall onto road creating safety hazard. appears to be connected to auto-locking mechanism in tailgate.
The truck bed tailgate is having an issue with the locks. on multiple occasions i have had the truck bed open while i was driving on local highways. in addition the bed is no longer staying unlocked with the other locks on the vehicle or it will stay locked when the rest of the truck is unlocked. i have looked up the issue and found several forums with similar situations but much more dangerous results.
Vehicle is a 2015 ram 1500 truck with 8-speed transmissions and "dial-a-gear" electronic gear selector. the vehicle was driven to a gas station and pulled up next to a gas pump. driver exited the vehicle, and realized that they needed to pull forward about 2 more feet to better align the truck with the gas pump. the driver got back into the truck, turned the knob to "drive," and pulled forward. once the truck was stopped, the driver turned the knob to "park" and exited the truck. as the driver stepped out of the truck it began to move backwards, causing the driver's door to impact the pole protecting the pumps, and over-extending the door and hinges beyond normal operation. the driver quickly jumped back into the truck and stopped it's movement, and then verified that the gear selector was showing "park." the driver was uninjured, but the incident resulted in $2,200.00 of damage to the truck. the truck was moved forward again, the door pulled back to a normal position, the gear selection knob again turned to the "park" position, and the vehicle's transmission was confirmed to be in "park." the incident occurred at quiktrip gas station #764 on august 10, 2017. it was captured on the location's surveillance video system on cameras "gas left" and "parking left" starting at the time of 15:50:33, with the actual incident between 15:51:26 and 15:51:29. video can be requested through quiktrip's corporate office at 770-368-1616.
The vehicle's tailgate will randomly open while moving allowing everything in the bed to come out, this has happened multiple times causing damage to the vehicle's tailgate, contents, and last time nearly caused an accident to trailing vehicles. the first occurrence happened within two months of purchasing the truck new in 2015. i assumed that i had simply not latched the tailgate well. since then it has occurred more frequently, last time on october 20th, 2017, when it happened twice in one day. the dealership says that it is related to a faulty metal tab that is being broken off by a moving plastic piece connecting the latch to the electric lock. according to the dealership, a service bulletin was released about a week ago, although they claim that they have seen the issue for years. no recall has been issued. i first spoke to ram after my tailgate opened while i had a trailer attached causing damage to the tailgate. i called them on july 20th, 2017, they denied any responsibility. i called them again october 20th, 2017 after my tailgate opened and a box containing a ceiling fan came out. the box narrowly missed the two vehicles travelling behind me. so far, they have told me to leave my vehicle at the dealership and my case manager has not returned any of my calls. it has been there for 7 days. an article describing the issue can be found here: https://www.torquenews.com/3768/owners-2015-ram-1500s-are-stunned-tailgates-falling-open-while-driving.
I purchased my 2015 ram 1500 brand new ordered from the factory. after about two years the ram box covers degraded which leave pieces of fiberglass in my arms whenever i reach across them to tie something down or get something out of the bed of my truck. this causes a rash that lasts for about two weeks. i take very good care of my truck. this is not due to owner error.
Brake light assembly does not seal properly any time it rains or the vehicle gets washed water leaks into the cabin. roof liner is already stained and the vehicle interior may become damaged.

On november 05, 2016 at approximately 1230 hours i walked out to my ram 1500 pick up truck, which was parked in my driveway and started it up. i pulled the truck forward in my driveway approximately a full truck length, put the truck in park and exited the truck, leaving the driver side door open. the truck was left idling. i began to walk to the rear of my truck, where a friend was standing near my flatbed trailer. the plan was to hook the trailer up to the truck. as i was walking to the rear of my truck, i observed the truck rolling backwards. i immediately turned around and began to run back to the truck. as the truck was rolling, the driver side door caught the tire of the vehicle parked next to it. as i jump back in the truck i check the shift indicator and observed it to be in park while rolling. the driver side door was then pushed backwards and into the driver side front fender. i then stepped on the brake and the vehicle came to a stop.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500. while driving 75 mph, the engine stalled without warning and all the lights on the instrument panel illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine ecu sensor and transmission pcu sensor failed. in addition, the vehicle experienced numerous electrical failures with the headlights and the instrument panel electrical sensor system. the front frame also separated due to defective bolts. the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 6,240.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500. the contact stated that the center console was designed with a chrome border. when the sun shines on the chrome, it impairs the contact's visibility. the only way to prevent the sun's reflection from impairing the contact's visibility was to place his hand on the chrome to block the sun. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 12,469.
My dodge ram 2011 1500 and my 2015 dodge ram 1500 both when it rains my back under the seats gets filled with 2" rain water. this must be a inherit problem the roof must be leaking causing this rain water to run to that area. will cause rust area to cause weaken body to case seat to weaken in this area.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500. upon the driver exiting and re-entering the vehicle during inclement weather, there was standing water inside the front and rear of the vehicle. the dealer was notified of the failure and indicated that the robotics of the welding for the frame were faulty. the manufacturer authorized an independent source to re-weld the frame, but the failure continued. the manufacturer was notified and provided no remedy. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was not available.

Original complaint for the first time this happened was filed with the nhtsc on 9/10/2015. this is the second identical incident. on 2/14/16 my knee hit the ignition key and the ignition turned off while traveling at 55 mph. i lost all engine, brake and steering power and coasted off road without an accident. the location and operation of the ignition key and ignition switch will eventually cause a crash and fatality like what happened with the similar gm / chevy ignition problem. i reported this to my dealer, ram hq customer care and you (nhtsc) in sept 2015 and got no response from any of you and no one seemed to care. i also contacted lieff cabraser law firm in san francisco the first time it happened on 9/10/2015 and gave them a heads up that this defect will eventually result in a crash and/or fatality and they are on notice and prepared to sue as soon as this issue kills someone. lieff cabraser law firm specializes in these types of defects and has successfully sued several automobile manufacturers for negligence.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500. while driving at an unknown speed, the chrome latch used to open the center console reelected sunlight into the contact's eyes. when this occurred, the contact was blinded and unable to drive the vehicle. the manufacturer stated that was the only type of latch cover that they offered for the vehicle. the failure mileage was 11,000.
Truck had a leak behind the dash which couldn't be repaired after multiple attempts. moisture within the cab of the truck has caused anything metal in the cab to rust and has also affected some electrical components. i noticed the leak more while the truck was stationary during heavy rains/snow. leak was noticed in or around 11/2015 and confirmed in 1/2016 and is now assumingly repaired. rust is a major concern along with moisture that may have an affect on electrical components of the vehicle.
Truck is leaking inside the interior, in the exit handle. water was in the headliner, blinker switch, floorboard and inside the exit handle. took to dealer. they were unable to resolve. this happened in my driveway while the truck was parked.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 dodge ram 1500. while driving approximately 40 mph, the front driver side axle and other related components completely detached from the vehicle. the failure caused the vehicle to travel out of the lane independently and side swipe another vehicle. the vehicle continued to accelerate and came to a stop as the front driver side collapsed to the ground. the front driver and passenger side tires were positioned inwardly. a police report was filed. the contact sustained injuries to both knees, but medical attention was not required. the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 2,000. the vin was unavailable. updated 10/06/15*lj updated 12/13/2017*cn
The inner fender made out of metal with a hard plastic shroud on previous years, has been eliminated. in its place there is now a flimsy thin plastic shroud that can be bent and deformed by hand and removed by hand with a couple of healthy tugs. this membrane is the only protection provided for abs components, a/c and power steering hoses, and numerous other components found under the hood. when driving especially driving off road, there are numerous hazards and items that can be picked up by the tires and flung inside the wheel well. on previous year models there has been a formed metal inner fender that was stout enough to resist numerous items that may be tossed into the wheel well or into the engine compartment. additionally, there was also a thick plastic shroud that covered the metal of the inner fender, perhaps as an additional protection against rust. none of that exists in the current 2015 ram 1500 model. this is extremely hazardous since a light item, stick, or rock can be thrown into the wheel well and will punch easily thru the thin plastic membrane. additionally a heavier or longer item can be thrown into the engine compartment or steering components causing something to jam and limiting the ability to steer safely. please look into this, the potential for costly repairs or catastrophe is real. *tr
